• Acetate Sheets – A4 – Pack of 10 – 11934 • Other Materials Required: Template (page 10), splash mat or scrap paper, ruler and scissors
1. Use Paper Magiclay to create the shape of Una. You will need to make sure that she is small enough to fit inside the plastic bauble. We have provided a template on page 10 to make this step easier. Allow the clay to dry.
2. While the clay is drying, paint the inside and outside of your plastic bauble black. You may require a few coats of paint. Allow to dry between coats and then allow to dry completely.
3. Cover your work area with a splash mat or scrap paper and place the bauble opening down. Wet your fan brush with water and then load it up with white paint. Hold the brush above the bauble and tap it against you hand so the paint spatters over the bauble like a galaxy of stars. Continue until the outside is completely spattered then allow to dry.
4. Use giant popsticks to mix blue and purple metallic paints with gloss finish in individual paper cups. We used a ratio of 1:1. You will only need a small amount of each colour for 1 bauble.
5. Keeping your work surface well covered, place the blue and purple mixtures onto the bauble, then pour a small amount of gloss finish over the top to help the paints mix and flow over the surface. Use a popstick to help swirl the paint and gloss until the entire outside of the bauble is covered. Leave to dry making sure to prop the bauble up so it’s not sitting flat on a surface.
6. Allow the bauble to completely dry. This will take at least 24 hours. You want the surface to be clear and shiny and for the tackiness of the gloss to have completely gone.

The gloss finish creates a beautiful, shiny galaxy for Una to float in!
7. Decorate your dried clay Una shape. We have used watercolour and a permanent pen, then added some cute glasses made from florist wire. Simply bend the wire into shape, then use tacky glue to attach to Una’s face.
8. Place Una on top of a sheet of acetate and use a permanent pen to draw a circle around her head to create her space helmet. Cut out with scissors and glue in place on the back of her head. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Cut a 6cm piece of florist wire and peel off the rainbow foil. Glue the wire to Una’s back – this will be used to ‘float’ her inside the bauble.
These cute little dioramas are perfect for decorating a special National Simultaneous Storytime reading area!
9. Once the bauble is dry on the outside, use glue to stick star sequins on the inside. Allow to dry.
10. Carefully thread the wire attached to Una’s back up through the hole where the hanger is. Bend the wire over once you have Una in position to hold her in place. Your Una Galaxy Bauble is now ready to hang!

Window Paint Planets Materials: • CleverPatch™ Window Paint Kit – 18495 • Wooden Skewers – Pack of 100 – 10014 • Blu-Tack – 75g Pack –10082 • Other Materials Required: Templates (page 10-11) & baking paper
No need to wait for the sun to go down, you can now view the planets all day!
1. Print the templates on pages 10-11.
2. Use Blu-Tack to attach the clear sheets from the Window Paint Kit or baking paper over the top of the planet templates.
3. Add window paint on top of the clear sheets or baking paper, tracing the designs underneath. DO NOT put window paint directly onto the templates as it will not peel off. Choose the colours you want for your planets and do each colour separately.
4. Allow 10 minutes drying time between each colour to stop them from blending into each other. Add your next colour. Continue adding colours until your design is complete.
5. You can also try mixing the colours together gently with a skewer, this makes for some cool patterns!
6. Once you have finished adding all the colours to your planet, you will need to let it dry overnight.
7. Once your planet is dry, gently peel it off the clear sheet or baking paper.
8. Your planets are now ready to decorate your windows! By slightly dampening the backs they will regain their sticking power!

Head into space like Una with your very own Astronaut Jet Pack and Helmet!
1. Find two clean recycled bottles that are the same size. Ours measure 31cm tall. Paint the bottles using Silver CleverPatch™ Acrylic Paint. Allow to dry.
2. Take a piece each of red, orange and yellow tissue paper. Cut a zig-zag edge along each sheet. Adult supervision is recommended when using scissors. Make the yellow tissue paper the shortest and the orange tissue paper the tallest. Repeat a second time so you have 2 of each colour. These will be used to make the flames on your Jet Pack.
3. Wrap the orange tissue paper at the end of your recycled bottle and use sticky tape to hold in place. Wrap the red on top of the orange and then the yellow last. Use sticky tape to hold it all in place. Repeat this step on the second bottle with the remaining tissue paper.
4. Use duct tape over the end of each bottle to cover where the tissue paper joins. Tape the two bottles together to assemble the Jet Pack as shown above.

5. Cut 2 pieces of ribbon that measure at least 1m long each. Attach 1 piece of ribbon to each of the bottles using duct tape as shown. Place the Jet Pack against your back and wrap the ribbon around your arms and tie at the front to secure.

3...2...1...BLAST OFF!
6. To create your helmet, blow up a balloon 10% bigger than the size you want your helmet to be. Use a marker to sketch out an opening and also where the bottom of your helmet will be. These lines will be used as a guide when applying the Mod-Rock.
7. Cut a variety of pieces of Mod-Rock for your helmet. The amount of Mod-Rock you will use will depend on how big, small or thick you make your helmet. You will need a bowl of warm water as well.
8. Place the balloon from step 6 into a bowl or something that will help it stay upright. Wet your pieces of Mod-Rock in a bowl of warm water. Squeeze out any excess water and then drape over the balloon. The aim is to join the plaster sheets over and around the balloon to create your helmet. Be sure to not place Mod-Rock over your face and neck openings. Add a couple of layers until you are happy with the shape. Allow the Mod-Rock to dry completely, for at least 24 hours.
9. Pop the balloon whilst it is still inside the helmet and carefully peel it out. Decorate your Astronaut Helmet using CleverPatch™ Acrylic paints. Allow to dry.
10. Use the template from page 12 to create a microphone for inside your helmet. Trace the template onto a piece of black cardboard and cut out using scissors. Glue or tape the microphone to the inside of your helmet where your mouth will be. Your Astronaut Helmet and Jet Pack are now ready for take off! Clever Tip: if you find it difficult to place the helmet onto your head, use scissors to cut a 5cm slit up the back of the helmet.
