DIVISION 20

DECEMBER NEWSLETTER

Greetings Division 20! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! We are nearing the end of another amazing service year, so there are many updates this month. One of those updates is Lieutenant Governor Elections! We currently only have one person interested, so please talk to your clubs about the position. It is an amazing opportunity, and it has opened so many doors for me to other things. There is definitely a lot of work involved, but the friends and impacts you’ll make is worth it. I have had the most amazing time being your Lieutenant Governor, so thank you all for everything. Another thing is the Leadership Training Conference! The newly elected Lieutenant Governor is required to go to LTC, but I encourage all of you to look into it too. It’s an amazing event where Key Clubbers from all around the New York District come to celebrate another successful year of service. This will be my first LTC, so I hope many of you can come and join me! Turn to page eight to learn more! Lastly, our most favorite thing, paperwork. I know that I harp on this a lot, but it’s something that has to get done. The December Monthly Report Form is due Thursday, January 10th. If you have not done it yet, please do so ASAP! You can find the link here. A lot has happened since the last newsletter, as in I visited three clubs! Thank you to Owego for having me, thank you to Union-Endicott for inviting me to your service project, and thank you to Windsor for video chatting with me! That’s all for now, and I’ll see you next month. Thanks for your constant dedication to Key Club! Yours in service, Camille Brock 2

Service Spotlight!

On December 20th, the Union-Endicott Key Club hosted an amazing holiday party for students in their elementary schools. They made ornaments, frosted cookies, had their faces painted, read some books, made slime, and danced with Devil Dog, who is the mascot of the Binghamton Devils. They even left with gifts from Santa himself! I had the opportunity to attend, and had such a wonderful time. Thanks Union-Endicott for all you do for Key Club!

Service Spotlight from Division 21! Last year Baker High School from Division 21 won a Nickelodeon award to help start their “Bee Full Pantry”. The idea is that no student is sent home hungry. A bee is the school’s mascot, hence the name “Bee Full.” In the beginning of the year, forms went home with students to have their families fill out if they were in need of food and if so, to list any allergies. The child simply brought the form back and the process began. You can schedule a time to pick up your bag which contains breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack items to take home. During the holidays, these bags came with gift cards and toiletries. This project started in an old utility closet and now is taking up an entire classroom. *The pantry items and bags pictured are only a small portion of what they’ve collected*

Updates! December Presidential Council Meeting: On December 4th, many of the presidents gathered for a meeting with myself and the District Secretary, Peter Alegre. We talked about getting paperwork done, our next divisional, common issues among clubs, dues, a new Lieutenant Governor, and LTC! We established that many of the clubs share a lot of the same issues, like membership. There are many ways we can fix that, and I’m currently looking for one to serve all of the clubs’ needs.

Upcoming Events: There is an upcoming K-Family Spaghetti Dinner for the Broome County Kiwanis. The clubs that are invited are the clubs that are sponsored by the BC Kiwanis, so Johnson City, Maine-Endwell, Seton Catholic, and Union-Endicott. This event is to help fund more scholarships for college bound seniors, and to help increase communication between branches of the K-Family. Planning Meeting: January 9th at 5pm at Vestal United Methodist Church • Please send one representative from each Key Club to the meeting!

Spaghetti Dinner: Saturday, February 9th at Vestal United Methodist Church • The time of the dinner is to be determined

Elections! The time has come! If you want to run for higher office, SPEAK NOW! Lieutenant Governor Elections are being held on February 6th at 6pm. They are being held at Maine-Endwell. We currently have one person interested in the role of Lieutenant Governor, so please talk to your clubs about it. It’s an amazing position. Along with the work, once in a lifetime opportunities come with it too. I have made some of my closest friends through Key Club, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. As Lieutenant Governor, you’re required to attend LTC 2019, attend all board meetings, write up weekly updates for your clubs, write up monthly newsletters, complete all paperwork thoughtfully and on time, and ensure that your clubs are completing their paperwork and paying their dues. Other higher office positions you could run for would be Governor, Secretary, and Treasurer. These positions are being elected by the whole New York District at the Leadership Training Conference. As Governor, you would be the face of the New York District. It is much more work than Lieutenant Governor, but still so rewarding. You would be the one in charge of all the Lieutenant Governors, and all of the other Executive Board members. You report to our trustee, who would then report to International. As Secretary, you would go through all Monthly Report Forms that clubs from the New York District turn in, and compile all of that information to send to International. As Treasurer, you would make sure we have funds to fund LTC. You would also keep up with the funds that are being raised by all clubs in the New York District. This is just the minimum of what each position requires, so for more information, email me at division20@nydkc.org!
