Division 20 November Newsletter

I hope you all had an enjoyable Thanksgiving!

Greetings Division 20! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I have so much to update you on since the last newsletter, so please read my whole update.

I have been up to a lot lately! In the beginning of the month, I was able to visit with members of the K-Family at the Tri-K board meeting. Then, we all had Fall Rally which was so amazing! I had such a wonderful time, and I hope you all did too. Thank you all again for coming out and supporting Key Club. Also, thank you all for being avid members of this organization! I’ve been hearing about service projects you all have done, or you’re planning, and they’re all so awesome! I know you all are completing some amazing service projects, but the district won’t unless you fill out the Monthly Report Form!! If you haven’t filled out the MRFs from September or October, PLEASE GO DO SO! They’re very important. Also, if your club hasn’t paid dues yet, please pay those ASAP! If you need help with either of these, please email me. That’s all for now! Thanks again to everyone who came to Fall Rally! Yours in service, Camille Brock

Service Spotlight! On Friday, October 26th, the Windsor Key Club volunteered with their sponsors at Kiwanis to help provide a safe trick-or-treating event for the students who attend Donnelly Elementary School. They washed pumpkins, helped students make slime, and handed out candy. On that same night, the Windsor Key Club had another event at Windsor’s Bell Elementary School where they decorated doors and handed out candy to local students.

Service Spotlight from Division 16! Recently, the Saugerties Key club helped with the annual Garlic Festival held in Saugerties New York run by the Kiwanis. Every year thousands of people walk through the gates attracted to all things Garlic. The Saugerties Key Club contributes widely to the set up and the dismantle of the festival and also holds their own booths. In years past we’ve sold Yuda bands to help poverty stricken children receive an education. We also help sell tee-shirts they say Saugerties Garlic Festival. As individuals enter and exit the gates we have Key Clubbers hand out maps as well as collect donations. These donations go towards programs we feel strongly for such as the Backpack program, which supplies the children within our town who are in need with food. We also donate some of the money to The American Cancer society to help those who are fighting for their lives. The Garlic Festival always proves to be a fun, productive day for all those involved and leaves many with the yearn for next year.

Fall Rally 2018 Fall Rally went so well, and I want to thank everyone who attended. It was YOU who made it so enjoyable, and I’m so grateful for all of you. Here’s what Candor Junior Ty’vone Benners had to say about Fall Rally, “Fall Rally was so incredible! The sheer amount of people who attended was amazing, and I’m so glad I was able to meet so many wonderful people. The tremendous amount of effort Division 20’s Lieutenant Governor, Camille Brock, put forth to bring together divisions 20 and 22 was apparent. From our keynote speaker, TK Huff, to the various workshops offered, to our service project -- which was making dog toys -- Camille was able to give us attendees a fun, informative day. I can’t wait to see what she does next!”

Fall Rally 2018

Our amazing keynote, Tackie “T.K.” Huff. Thanks so much for giving up your time to be there T.K.!

We had a pretty fun icebreaker activity, and it really got everyone talking. Apple is still better than Android y’all!

We then broke off into workshops for session one. Owego Kiwanis President Kathy Nichols-Newell led “Commitment to Service,” and Candor Superintendent Jeff Kisloski led “Group Juggling.”

After lunch, we headed to the workshops in session two. There was “Helium Sticks” led by Candor Superintendent Jeff Kisloski, “Keys to College” led by Binghamton University Circle K, and “Key Club 101” led by Lt. Governor Camille Brock. After session two, we made dog toys which are being donated to the SPCA!

Our service goals are… Hours: 130,000 hours Fundraising: $150,000 The New York District has currently raised $74,000 throughout this service year! This is nearly half of our fundraising goal, and considering we are 2/3 of the way done with the service year, we need to step it up! If you have hosted a fundraiser and haven’t filled out the report form, that can be found here.

Comfort Cases Each year our Governor picks a project to raise funds for. This year our Governor, Erica Swirsky, chose Comfort Cases!

Comfort Cases’ mission is to provide every foster child with something they can call their own. $10 will provide a child with their own case, and a sense of pride that’s priceless. To learn more, visit their website at www.comfortcases.org
