Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. Fritz Sick Swimming Pool Celebrates 70 Years As early as the 1930s, Lethbridgians dreamed of a public swimming pool. While planning for the Fritz Sick Swimming Pool started in 1945, it took five years for the pool to be built.

Originally an outdoor pool, with the water heated when necessary, work to enclose the pool started in November 1965.

In 1945, Lethbridge City Council knew what they wanted: an ultra-modern structure 150 feet long and 50 feet wide with a bathing capacity of 422 persons and space for dressing rooms, showers, foot baths, bleachers and lockers. The pool was to be three feet two inches deep in the shallow end and nine feet six inches at the deepest point. Knowing what they wanted wasn’t the problem. In the years after the Great Depression and Second World War, there were many competing interests. A new city hall, police station, skating rink and more were desired by Lethbridge residents and City Council had to prioritize the many items.

Why was it named after Fritz Sick? In 1943, in honour of his 83rd birthday, Fritz Sick donated $100,000 to the city to be used to help build a Civic Centre and public swimming pool.

The Fritz Sick Swimming Pool came after some of the other priorities were built. Lethbridge’s first public swimming pool was officially opened by Emil Sick (Fritz Sick’s son) on 26 April 1950.

BUILDING A MORE CARING COMMUNITY... “I think it’s important to give back, but it’s not about how much you give, it’s also about being invested. Every year, the utility company where I work organizes a company-wide United Way campaign that runs across to all our affiliates. Since 2009, I’ve been volunteering my time as part of the company’s campaign. There are two parts of it that really appeal to me. The first is that the committee comes together like a family. The second is that United Way is so strongly rooted in all of our local communities. That’s important to me. United Way reflects my values and I feel that it’s such an important organization to support.”

Public Information & Events

"Sik-Ooh-Kotoki - Sport Connections - Lethbridge" is a group formed to make it easier for people of Lethbridge and the surrounding area, to find out about sport, physical activity and recreation (SPAR) activities and programs. We need your help; please share activities and programs such as sport camps, free come-try-sport events, or even a game of 3-on-3 basketball pick-up happening at an outdoor court. Ask questions. Share information. Get moving. Stay healthy. Lethbridge Sport Council and our members value sport for its impact physically, socially, emotionally, and mentally. No other domain of community life has demonstrated sport’s capacity to connect so many young people to positive adult role models and mentors, opportunities for positive development, and help to acquire critical life skills. In the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Final Report (2015), sport and recreation are identified as tools for social development to improve the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities.

Lectio Divina (Reading Rumi or Teaching of Buddha) A meditative and contemplative technique arising from the West, attributed most often to the Benedictine monastic tradition. It is a contemplation of a literary source, where one “enters” the words and discovers their meaning on a deep interior level. This technique can be practiced with poetry, scriptures, written wisdom of spiritual teachers, and even the lyrics of music.
