Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

ABOUT THE POOLS FAQ’s - LOST & FOUND Are you missing something and think you left it at the Pool? There is a Lost & Found at each facility and below is a list of guidelines for our Lost & Found process. 1) Personal items such as combs, socks, underwear etc are discarded 2) Non valuable items are held for 4 weeks (wet items are hung to dry first) - towels, suits, toys, goggles, costume jewelry etc 3) After 4 weeks the items are donated to charity 4) Valuable items (watches, rings, necklaces, wallets, glasses etc) - are logged and secured at the facility - if there is identification every effort will be made to contact the owner - you will be asked to identify the object and to provide identification in order to claim lost valuables - at the end of each month all unclaimed items are turned over to the Lethbridge Regional Police Service

Lethbridge Amateur Swim Club, 1930s Competitive swimming started in Lethbridge in the late 1930s when Ev and Pearl Borgal organized two swim clubs: the Penguins (for the girls) and the Tarpons (the boys club). Because of a lack of facilities in Lethbridge, the clubs had to use facilities in Raymond and Waterton. In 1939, the two groups were united into one team – the Tarquins. Pearl Borgal also assisted with Camp Inuspi at Waterton, assisting with teaching swimming and life saving among other duties.
The start of the Second World War brought to an end competitive swimming in Lethbridge until after the war.

Taking 5 minutes to play together helps your child: Improve working memory and ability to follow instructions. Develop emotional control. Build social skills like team work and cooperation. Build imagination and creativity. Develop problem solving skills.
Give instructions using, "Simon Says, lift your arms." The child should only do the action if you say "Simon Says" before the instruction. If they follow an instruction that doesn't begin with "Simon Says" or if they don't do what "Simon Says" correctly they are out.
Red Light, Green Light
Musical Freeze
Stand at one end of the room with the children at the other. Shout "Green Light!" The children run towards you. Shout "Red Light!" the children stop where they are and freeze. Continue until the children get to your side of the room.
Find a musical device that can be stopped and re-started. While the music plays, children can move around freely. As soon as the children hear the music stop, they freeze imitating the pose you make.
Hot and Cold Hide an object in the room. Ask your child to look for the object. Explain that you'll say "hotter" when they closer to the object and "colder" when they are moving away from the object. Continue until the child finds the object.

Story Telling
Say one sentence about anything you chose. Your child continues the story by adding a second sentence to yours. Continue taking turns adding sentences and building your story.

UNITED WAY AGENCIES HELPED AJ WHEN HE LEFT HOME AS A TEEN... “My depression was so bad that it manifested as suicidal thoughts. By the time I was 18, it was way too much for me. I had no money. I had no education. I ended up leaving home. I would stay in the hospital for a 72-hour hold, or I’d go to a homeless shelter. I didn’t want to go home. Eventually, I was connected with a social worker through a program that’s supported by United Way. The social worker helped me get provincial disability support and access a range of services, including counselling, housing, peer support and skill development that made me feel more hopeful about my future.”

Christmas Bird Count Did you know?
“Prior to the turn of the 20th century, people engaged in a holiday tradition known as the Christmas “Side Hunt”: They would choose sides and go afield with their guns; whoever brought in the biggest pile of feathered (and furred) quarry won. Conservation was in its beginning stages around that era, and many observers and scientists were becoming concerned about declining bird populations. Beginning on Christmas Day 1900, ornithologist Frank M. Chapman, an early officer in the then nascent Audubon Society, proposed a new holiday tradition – a “Christmas Bird Census” – that would count birds during the holidays rather than hunt them. So began the Christmas Bird Count.” Source: www.audubon.org/conservation/science/christmas-bird-count

This year is the 120th annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC). Christmas Bird Counts are conducted between December 14th and January 5, inclusive dates, each season. Each count takes place in the same established 15-mile (24km) wide diameter circle every year. Every CBC is done by willing and dedicated volunteers. CBCs are a critical part of Citizen Science! Data provided helps researchers, biologists and wildlife agencies to study the long-term health and status of bird populations across North America. Lethbridge CBC averages 42 different species per count with 41 species counted in 2018. 29,445 Canada Geese were counted in 2018. Canada Geese, Mallards, Pigeons, Magpies, Northern Flickers, Starlings, and House Sparrows are some of the most frequent birds counted.

BE FIT FOR LIFE Holiday Feel Good Guide Activities and eating tips to enhance your holiday cheer! Wishing you a happy holiday season filled with family, friends, and all the right foods. This holiday season, we have some tips for you to feel good daily. Heart Warming Activities 1. Spend quality time with loved ones - we recommend putting down the devices to enhance quality time while cooking, getting artsy, reading, playing, skating, or exercising together. 2. Get outdoors daily - bundle up to go play, walk, or adventure outdoors 3. Serve others - do one thing daily to put a smile on someone's face this holiday season. We recommend helping neighbors shovel a driveway or run an errand for someone not as mobile.

Energy Consumption 1. Cook for the Heart - Use recipes that have less saturated fats and choose lean protein options. 2. Buffet Table - Scope out the food options prior to filling your plate with items that are higher in nutrients. Choose a balance of healthy fats, carbs, and protein with each meal. 3. Canada Food Guide Rule - Fill half your plate with vegetables! Fill yourself up on the good things first. 4. Fluids - Drinking water before, during, and between plates, will help fill you up before desiring seconds. A glass of eggnog can add 500 calories very quickly to your recommended caloric intake. 5. Move - After a meal, continue your conversations as you slip on your walking or dancing shoes.
