ABOUT THE POOLS
Our top priority is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience at our facilities. Safety is paramount when it comes to pools and waterslides, and taking necessary precautions can greatly minimize the chances of accidents and injuries. This summer, our Recreation Excellence leadership team aims to emphasize the importance of implementing proper safety measures, waterslide rules, preventing contamination, and following facility policies.
Water slides add a huge element of fun to swimming pools, but to ensure the good times last, safety must always be the first consideration. In accordance with the manufacturer rules and best practices the waterslides are ONE RIDER SLIDES, the slider must be 42 inches tall or 12 years and older and able to ride in a supine position.
Why am I not allowed to ride double with my child on the waterslide?
The force and speed of a double rider can cause riders to be ejected from the slide or lose control during the ride and collide with each other. The increased speed may make it more difficult to control movements and react to unexpected situations, leading to injuries and accidents.
In the event of an emergency or if one rider becomes distressed or disoriented during the ride, the presence of a second rider can complicate the situation. It may be challenging to provide immediate assistance or evacuate both riders safely, potentially delaying rescue efforts and increasing the risk of further harm.
We appreciate your understanding as we make great efforts to ensure all guests enjoy a safe ride on thewaterslides.
Can I use the Splash Pad area with my kids?
The slides are for children 10 years of age and younger. Parents are more than welcome to assist their children on the splash pad structure; however, parents are not permitted to ride down the slide on the splash pad structure.
What is a safety check?
Staff will inspect the pool basin for hazards and contamination. Safety checks are conducted at 3:30pm and 6:30pm and require everyone to come out of the water and stay behind the “yellow line” for 10 – 15 minutes. We recommend taking this time to hydrate, re-apply sunscreen, or use the washroom.
What is a bag check?
Our facility strictly enforces policies and rules, such as bag checks, to maintain a secure environment for all visitors. Conducting bag checks at entry helps prevent prohibited and restricted items from entering the premises, to ensure our guests have a safe and fun overall experience.
Why can’t I go swimming right after eating food?
We advise you to wait at least 15 – 20 minutes after eating before you enter the pool. This allows your body to properly digest food and prevent fecal and vomit contaminations. By following these guidelines, we can collectively maintain a clean and healthy swimming environment for everyone to enjoy.
How can I find out more information?
You are welcome to send us an email at leth@recreationexcellence.com or contact our facility for any further questions you may have.

Lethbridge Parade, 1974
In late 1973, Cleve Hill of the Lethbridge Exhibition recommended the Whoop-Up Days parade be discontinued as he felt the public wasn’t interested in it and the money could be better spent.
By the middle of January 1974, however, things had changed, and Hill informed the public that the parade would go ahead
The parade occurred on the afternoon of 15 July and was described by the Lethbridge Herald as the “best in years” with imaginative floats and twelve bands. The crowds were six people deep at some places along the route

TIMES COMEDY CLUB
Welcome to the AAC, one of our newest associate members, Good Times Comedy Club!
Since its inception in late 2018, Good Times has been a beacon of comedic entertainment in the heart of downtown Lethbridge. Lethbridge’s first and only independent comedy club was founded with an optimistic vision. This vibrant venue aims to create a safe and welcoming space where family and friends can come together to share a laugh, a drink, or just the colloquial good time. Under their capable management group, Good Times has cemented its reputation as a cornerstone of the local entertainment scene.
Located at 314 7 Street South and now operating up to four nights a week, Good Times is perfectly situated to offer a variety of entertainment options unlike anything else in Lethbridge. The club's unique charm lies in its intimate setting—its basement's brick walls and limited seating capacity ensure that every laugh feels personal and every performance is a VIP experience. If your experience with stand-up comedy has been limited to Netflix specials or large theaters, Good Times promises a refreshing and unique experience once considered limited to much larger city centers. Speaking of refreshing, the menu is packed full of locally sourced brews and spirits and they have some of the best popcorn and pizza in the city.
Good Times is best known for its Friday and Saturday night comedy shows, where the stage has seen a parade of traveling, talented comedians such as Andrew Grose, Todd Ness, and Steve Taddy, among many others. But the fun doesn’t stop there. Every Wednesday you can enjoy $5 pizza, $5 beer, and $5 entry for the popular Pro-Amateur Night. The evening is a mix of first-timers to the stage and local veterans. Thursday nights you’ll find different variety shows, including Drunk Improv and Gomorrah (a hilarious and intriguing improvised soap opera) put on by Theatre Outre, as well as, Ladies Nights, special game show or theme nights, Kinky Comedy and many other locally produced shows.
Good Times isn't just a comedy club; it's a hub for a diverse crowd. Whether you're looking for a couple's night out, a tourist seeking some local comedic flavor, or a business outing for team building, Good Times fits the bill For information on showtimes and tickets, check out goodtimesyql.com or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @goodtimesyql

Sky Dancer – The Bald Eagle
Did You Know?
Known for their dramatic “sky dances,” Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus ) males will court females with a series of impressive feats. Spectacular acrobatics from high-speed chases to tumbling together, talons locked, from great heights towards the ground.
Bald Eagles are believed to live up to 30 years in the wild. They mate for life, building huge nests on the tops of large trees near rivers and lakes.
They feed primarily on fish, but will also forage on ducks, rodents, snakes, and carrion.
Bald Eagles can soar over 3,048 meters high, and their great eyesight lets them see fish up to 1.6 kilometres away. When they attack, they drop down at a speed of up to 161 kilometres an hour. Doing this by diving down directly in front of the sun to blind their prey.
When Bald Eagles lose feathers on one side, they will also lose the same ones on the other. This way, their feathers remain balanced so as not to impact their ability to fly correctly.
Bald Eagles can swim! They use an overhand movement of the wings that is very much like the butterfly stroke.

Fun Water Games for the Family
Water games are a great way to cool down in the heat of summer while also spending quality time with friends and family. Whether you have access to a pool or a bucket, there are lots of ways to play!
Water Balloon Toss Fill up some water balloons and grab a couple of towels - have one personal holding each end of the towel and try to toss the balloons to another group with a towel.Continue passing back and forth until the balloon explodes!
Frozen T-Shirt Soak t-shirts in water, crumple them up and put them in the freezer. Once they are frozen solid, pull them out and have a race to see who can get their t-shirt on their body first! Brrrrrr!
Sponge Tag: Fill up a bucket and soak some sponges. One or two people with wet sponges are 'it' and must tag others with their sponge! Once tagged, the now soaked player is 'it' and must tag others! (Make sure you keep dunking the sponge in water so it stays wet!)
Treasure Hunt: Toss some coins, dive rings, or other sinking waterproof objects into the pool. One at a time, dive down and gather as many items as you can from the bottom! The player who retrieves the most treasure from the bottom of the pool wins.

THE GOATS ARE BACK!
For the past five summers, goats have been used to help control invasive weeds in select areas of the river valley. Since the program began, over 750 hectares of invasive weeds have been grazed.
WHY GOATS?
Goats are nimble! They can navigate the terrain of the river valley's steep slopes.
Goats can target the particular species of invasive vegetation that we are looking to control. Goat droppings fertilize the soil and their hooves work the soil, helping to till and aerate the ground.
WHERE DO THEY GRAZE?
The goats spend their time between Indian Battle Park, Botterill Bottom Park, Pavan Park and Alexander Wilderness Park.
