Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

ABOUT THE POOLS FAQ’s - Can You Change the Hours of Operation Hours of Operation Recreation Excellence is very pleased to work with the City of Lethbridge in the delivery of aquatic services within the community of Lethbridge. On occasion our staff get asked if the facilities’ hours of operation could be adjusted. In particular, if the facilities could open earlier on some days. While we are not opposed to adjusting operational schedules, the City of Lethbridge and Recreation Excellence research facility demand and usage. The schedules that exist within the Aquatic Centres in Lethbridge have been developed in an effort to best reflect the needs of the community. In addtion, budget is based on current hours of operation and any additional hours may affect budget considerations.

Aquatics

It is our mandate to operate the Aquatic Facilities in a way that provides as much flexibility as possible while remaining fiscally responsible to the City of Lethbridge and the tax payers of the community. This does not mean that the hours of operation cannot be reviewed from time to time - in fact they are reviewed regularly. Our goal is to serve well in all aspects of the operation of the facilities and to maintain fiscal responsibility to the community of Lethbridge in doing so.

One hundred years ago – in 1919 – the Lethbridge Herald noted that with the new equipment purchased by the Fire Department, horses would no longer be needed by the department. Chief Hardy was proud of the fact that his department would now be fully motorized as it had been his aim ever since he took charge of the department. The time of the horse drawn fire engines in Lethbridge had come to an end.

As important members of the fire department team, the grooming, health, nutrition and training of the horses was of utmost importance. Entries in the fire department minute book of the time make note of when the horses were shod, if they suffered injuries, if they were off duty for rest and more. The horses’ training regimen also offered public entertainment as people showed up at 8 pm each evening when the horses had their daily drill of rushing from their

BE FIT FOR LIFE June Park Fitness How to get your daily 30 minutes of Physical Activity this month We encourage you to get outside with the family and enjoy some much needed recreation time together. Being active is important, we all know this. However, one thing that often gets misconstrued is HOW we accomplish this task. Lethbridge is fortunate to have the infrastructure in place to offer these opportunities for free throughout the city. To see what suits your fancy, visit www.activelethbridge.ca to find a long list of active opportunities, many of which are free! We know what the playgrounds have to offer kids, but what about the parents? For starters, there are five parks in our city which have outdoor gyms consisting of a variety of equipment options. But what if there aren’t any equipment available to you at your local park? Here are some active options for adults while at the playground with the kids: 1. PLAY with your child and have fun interacting to strengthen your relationship. 2. Be resourceful. Look around you for any types of structures that you could use for exercise. Benches, monkey bars, and some open space is all you need for a good 30 minute workout. 3. Use the time during their activities. For example, walk/jog around the soccer field during practice.

Jock Palmer Park is just off Mayor Magrath Drive (23rd street north), just past 5th Avenue North. The park is surrounded by beautiful mature trees where you will be sure to see a number of bird species. The park is home to a colourful playground comprised of swings, slides, and a climbing apparatus. Best of all there is a picnic area located nearby for families to enjoy. The park also features a paved pathway along the west side of the park which is a great scenic detour for those out for some fresh air and exercise. There is also enough open space in this park to throw a ball around, play touch football or frisbee.
