ABOUT THE POOLS FAQ’s - What is the proper way to swim Condition Swim? Condition Swim Etiquette Swimmers arriving at a pool should do three things before getting in the water: 1) Make note of “Fast, Medium, Slow” lane designations. If such signs aren't obvious at your pool, ask a lifeguard. a) An “Unstructured” lane may be available depending on the pool for activities such as water jogging etc. 2) Spend a few minutes observing and roughly timing the per-lap pace of swimmers already in the pool. 3) Select a lane containing swimmers moving as closely as possible to the pace that one realistically expects to swim throughout their entire workout rather than selecting a lane because there are no swimmers in it. a) A swimmer entering an open lane, or joining one person in a lane that's designated differently from their expected pace (i.e. faster swimmer in a “Slow” lane, or slower swimmer in a “Fast” lane), should stay aware of arriving swimmers, and be prepared to move to a more appropriate lane if/when other swimmers join them. 4) Follow the “Swimming Pattern” that is posted (i.e.) split lane or circular pattern a) When entering a lane with one or two swimmers make sure to confirm the pattern with the other swimmers especially when switching from split to circular 5) Respect and work with other swimmers to best enjoy your experience. If there are any issues that arise please enlist the assistance of the pool staff. Respect their decisions.

mountains may depart Directed by Jia Zhang-ke April 7 | 7 PM | $7 | $5 for members Free popcorn courtesy of Downtown Lethbridge Mainland master Jia Zhang-ke scales new heights with Mountains May Depart. At once an intimate drama and a decades-spanning epic that leaps from the recent past to the present to the speculative new future, Jia’s new film is an intensely moving study of how China’s economic boom – and the culture of materialism it has spawned – has affected the bonds of family, tradition, and love.

The prairie crocus is idenƟfied by the pale blue or purple flowers arising from the woody rootstock. The flowers are about 4 cm in diameter, each with five to seven petal-like sepals, and many pisƟls and bright yellow stamens. When folded (or closed), the outer surface of the sepals appear covered in white woolly hairs. The flowers are open during the day but close at night.

Prairie Crocus is also known as: x Crocus anemone x Prairie anemone x Pasque flower x Ears of the earth x Wind flower x Blue tulip Typically grows in northern laƟtudes around the world Prairie populaƟons of this wildflower are in decline due to culƟvaƟon related to agriculture Grows on the prairie in sandy soils in hot and sunny locaƟons Is actually not a crocus, which is in the Lily family; it’s really an anemone, in the BuƩercup family!

Decreasing muscle soreness with immune boosting foods Do you ever avoid exercising because you're afraid of feeling sore afterwards? New research suggests you may be able to speed up your post-workout recovery by maintaining a healthy immune system. Our immune system protects us against infectious organisms, but a surprising new study suggests that certain infection fighting cells also aid in tissue recovery. Researchers at Brigham Young University recently studied how T-cells, a special subtype of white blood cell, help us recover after a workout. In their study, researchers put participants through repeated bouts of exercise. After the first round of activity, researchers found an influx of T-cells going into areas of tissue damaged by exercise. They also found that muscles became more effective at recruiting T-cells following subsequent rounds of exercise, helping to reduce healing time. Researchers believe that muscles remember the damage experienced from previous workouts, and call upon the immune system to help facilitate faster tissue repair.

For more information call 403-382-6919 or go to lethbridgecollege.ca/befitforlife

Did You Know?

This study suggests a link between a healthy immune system and quicker recovery after strenuous activity. Foods such as sweet potatoes, garlic, ginger, kiwi, spinach and cinnamon all offer immune boosting benefits, and may also help you heal faster after a tough workout!
