Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

Hutterian Brethren – 100 Years in southern Alberta In 1918, the first eight Hutterian Brethren colonies (Hutterite colonies) were established in southern Alberta. Many of the colonies came from South Dakota, moving to southern Alberta during the First World War (partly as a result of anti-German sentiment during the war).
The original colonies are: East Cardston – from Warren Ranch Hutterite Colony, Montana Milford – from the Bruderhof in Milford, South Dakota New Elm Spring – from New Elm Spring Bruderhof, South Dakota Old Elm Spring – from Old Elm Spring Colony, South Dakota Rockport – from Rockport Colony,
South Dakota Standoff – division from Spink Colony, South Dakota West Raley – from Beadle, South Dakota Wilson Siding – from Richard Hutterite Colony, South Dakota
To acknowledge this anniversary, we photographed the signs of all of the Hutterite Colonies of southwestern Alberta during the summers of 2016 and 2017. [Note: all of the signs were photographed from public roads.]

Northern leopard frogs are active in Alberta from April until October. When hibernating they don’t bury themselves in mud at the bottom of water bodies but instead lie on the bottom in a dormant state, thus requiring water areas that don’t freeze over. Could going outside reduce illness in the winter months? As winter is starting to wrap up we tend to believe that the flu and cold season is almost over. Contrary to popular belief, one of the reasons why we catch colds during the winter more frequently is because we isolate ourselves indoors where we pass on all of our germs. In reality, the more time we spend inside, the more likely we are to be exposed to germs, bacteria, and dander. There has always been a big debate if we should go outside when it is snowing and cold because we don’t want to catch a cold. When we are walking or being active we are actually building our immune system up and it has been shown to reduce the risk of catching a cold by about one-third. Typically when it is cold we stop being as active, so bundle up, embrace the cold and get outside! Not only is catching that breathe of fresh air beneficial for us, but going in the outdoors can give us a deeper appreciation for our surroundings and stimulate creativity meanwhile being physical active.

Bluefox Park is a great neighbourhood park located in Uplands. This park is ideal for parents with younger children looking for a playground and moderate amount of open space. Mature trees throughout the space provide a multitude of shady areas to relax and escape the summer heat. The recently updated playground features slides, climbing structures, monkey bars and swings. Paved pathways connect Bluefox Park to neighbourhood sidewalks with several entrances as well as the southern edge along Bluefox Blvd.N. This park is within walking distance for most of the neighbourhood and would be a great afternoon outing for families.

Why Roving Gyms?
It’s important to allow children to move their bodies in a variety of ways in a variety of environments! This will help them develop the fundamental movement skills to be active throughout their life!
Roving Gyms would like to thank the Lethbridge Early Years Coalition, the Lethbridge Public Library, Lethbridge Sport Council and Parents as Teachers for their support of the Roving Gyms program this year! Also thank you to Westminster Community Association, Immanuel Lutheran Church, the YMCA, Senator Buchanan School and Galbraith Elementary for providing us with awesome indoors spaces to play! Our gyms this year will wrap up on March 27th, but watch for the schedule to come out for the 2018-2019 gyms!
