Changes coming to Water Safety Courses
Aquatics
The Red Cross has decided to turn down their involvement in water safety throughout 2022. By January 2023 there will no longer be Red Cross Water Safety Instructor courses or lessons. Standard First Aid will continue. The Lifesaving Society is taking over that responsibility. We are working with them to program our new Swim for Life Instructor courses and lessons. We're excited for this new chapter and look forward to working with everyone!

In 1907, he joined the Lethbridge city police as chief. He was dismissed from that job in 1912. His problems started in August when he reported two of his officers, Egan and Silliker, to the mayor and the two men were dismissed. The men counter charged Gillespie.

He also built a tea house at Henderson Lake, and, during the First World War, served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force. Following the war, Gillespie returned to Lethbridge and was re-hired as the Chief of Police, a position he held until his passing. The photograph shows Joseph Gillespie’s funeral procession.
All three were suspended for taking bribes from the brothels. Gillespie was exonerated by a judicial inquiry. Regardless, all three men were dismissed. Gillespie’s dismissal may have had more to do with personality problems with

Did You Know?
Alberta is home to different types of sparrows, such as the House sparrow, the American tree sparrow, the Whitethroated sparrow, etc. These little birds are very social and tend to live in flocks of a few to a few hundred. They love to hide in shrubs and trees, which provide them with good camouflage plus plenty of room. 1: Brewer’s sparrow 2: White-throated sparrow 3: Chipping sparrow 4: Song sparrow

species, the House sparrow is an Old-World Sparrow, allegedly brought into North America to control insect pests, but it is primarily vegetarian, adapted to eat nuts and seeds. Sparrows in general are seed eaters, but they also consume small insects. All sparrows are small birds with active personalities, and their elusive behaviour can make it difficult to watch them long enough for a positive identification. Each sparrow does, however, have distinctive field marks that can make it easier to tell them apart.

March is Nutrition Month Eat Well, Live Well! Good food offers benefits for our mind, body and soul! Improving mental focus, mood and energy levels, supporting heart, bone, muscle and immune health, and bringing people together are just some of the benefits of healthy eating. Canada's food guide reminds us to: -have plenty of vegetables and fruits (half of your plate) -eat a variety of protein-rich foods like eggs, tofu, meats, legumes, nuts, dairy -choose whole grains like brown rice, quinoa, whole grain pastas and breads -try cooking at home more often to save money and help limit foods high in fats, salt and sugar -be mindful of your eating habits and take time to enjoy your food -eat your meals with others - a great excuse for social connections! Enhance your quality of life by eating well. You are worth it!!

True Sport Tips for Parents Keeping it FUN!
True Sport Tips for Parents is a tool created for parents of kids who play sports. It was designed to help parents nurture their child’s participation in sport and provides tips on how to ensure sport remains a positive and fun experience.
DO
Support your child unconditionally. Attend your child's games, practices, and sporting events regularly. Cheer for and encourage your teammates and their opponents. Model self-control, good problem-solving and conflict management skills Appreciate and thank officials and encourage others to do the same. Encourage commitment, teamwork, respect and punctuality Show appreciation to coaches and other volunteers for their contributions to sport. Encourage your child to strive for personal growth and excellence. Find ways to keep it fun! Be your child's biggest fan.
CONSIDER
DON'T
Let your emotions get the better of you. Yell out advice and criticism to your child or others. Ask your child to act one way and then model something else. Compare your child with others. Focus the sport experience solely on winning. Treat your child differently after a win versus a loss. Undermine the coach.

Jessy was born in Yorkton Saskatchewan and raised almost entirely in Lethbridge. His family is from White Bear First Nations, located in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan. Growing up he spent most of his time playing basically any sport you could keep score of or that he had a chance to win. During his school years he was mostly occupied with volleyball/basketball and when the weather was nice enough Jessy would spend his days at the skatepark on a BMX, skateboard, or scooter; anything with wheels that could get going fast enough. Jessy's summers were spent in White Bear, golfing and working with his dad. He enjoyed listening to stories from his grandparents. He considers himself fortunate to have been immersed in his own Indigenous culture as a child, even though he spent much of his life far away from where he calls home. Jessy has spent the last few years at the University of Lethbridge getting a BSc in Kinesiology and working as a Strength and Conditioning coach with Lethbridge Pronghorns High Performance Centre where he has the opportunity to work with athletes of all ages and skill levels. While the majority of his time is spent with the Horns, he spends the rest of it working with youth athletes, developing their skills, strengths, and overall fitness by running the Athlete Enhancement Program. Jessy’s currently looking for opportunities to work more with the First Nations communities around Lethbridge and plans to continue to help youth athletes perform at an elite level in their own sports.
