Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

UNITED WAY HELPED ALIXANDRA SHARE HER PASSION FOR READING WITH CHILDREN “The United Way literacy camp I volunteered with is particularly important to our community. Volunteering there was such a great experience. because I had an opportunity to spend time with young people who are learning to share my love of books and reading and who really want to improve their reading ability. Hearing from a mom about how important this program has been to her and her children means a lot to me. It’s been so affirming knowing that my donation and my volunteer work is helping both parents and children on their journey. Volunteering is also about knowing that I’m making an impact in the community for entire families.”

Students from the Lethbridge College Ecosystem Management program will present on the following topics at the next Lethbridge Naturalists’ Society meeting: 1. Identifying deer-vehicle collision hotspots in Lethbridge, Alberta. by Meghan Knapton. The objective was to locate deer-vehicle collision hotspots within the city of Lethbridge. The project aimed to determine if deer were being struck by motor vehicles in specific and/or concentrated areas of road within the city. 2. An inventory of the plant species found in four environmental reserve parks of Lethbridge, Alberta by Conner Blenner-Hassett. Focused on species composition of each park based on transects, and include percentages of weeds, increasers, decreasers, and invaders found within plots—within Cottonwood Park, Popson Park, Botterill Bottom Park, and Indian Battle Park. 3. Examination of biases in morning bird surveys and suggestions for improved species richness estimation in central Alberta by Kirstin Kveder. To determine biases of morning bird recordings by finding out which species, genera, and orders were found in morning bird surveys and which species were not found, but were detected in a census data set for three study sites.

Weight Bearing Exercise Are You at Risk of Osteoporosis? Osteoporosis can cause bones to deteriorate over a number of years without any signs or symptoms, until a bone breaks. Exercise is one of many ways to decrease your risk. Weight-bearing aerobic exercises and muscle-strengthening exercises have shown to be an integral part of osteoporosis prevention, as well as a part of the treatment process. To decrease your risk, we recommend 20-30 minutes daily of the following: a) Perform moderate intensity weight training/resistance exercises 2-3x/week, nonconsecutively. Try bodyeight and weighted exercises. b) Perform moderate intensity weight-bearing aerobic exercise 3x/week or more including: walking, stair climbing and descending, Nordic pole walking, or intermittent jogging c) Perform balancing exercises for 20-40 seconds including: tandem walking forwards/backwards, writing the alphabet with one leg (standing or seated), tree pose with optional chair hold, tai chi, etc.
