Pool contamination reduction strategy

Each year pool contaminations are the leading cause of unscheduled pool closures which inconvenience users, increase potential health risks and increase maintenance costs. In an effort to reduce the number of unscheduled closures due to contaminations we will be implementing more stringent guidelines. Children that are not toilet trained & incontinent persons will now be required to wear an approved pool pant along with a plastic pant under their swim wear. Available at the pool.

Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

Professional Baseball Comes to Lethbridge In 1907, professional baseball came to Lethbridge when the Lethbridge Miners joined the Western Canada Baseball League. There were four teams in the League: Lethbridge, Calgary, Edmonton and Medicine Hat. Eckstorm ball diamond and grandstand were constructed for the team. Eckstorm Park was located where Kiwanis Greenacres Playground is today. The season ran from May to after Labour Day and the team played 48 away games and 48 home games. While the sport was popular, it wasn’t a paying proposition and Lethbridge bowed out of the League in 1908.

Over 1000 people attended Lethbridge’s first game of the season, which was against Medicine Hat. Lethbridge was in the League in the 1910 season but bowed out again after that. The photographs show the 1909 team. They are identified in the standing photograph and are (left to right): Steve Koler, Joe Corrigan (outfield), Jack Corrigan (manager and 2nd base), John Taylor (3rd base), H.J. Gebeau (pitcher), Thomas Canty (pitcher and outfield), Ralph Bell (shortstop), Chesty Cox (1st base), F.W. Townsend (1st base), Joe Lynch (catcher).

Lethbridge rejoined the League in 1909. The League had now grown to eight teams and also included Winnipeg, Moose Jaw, Regina and Brandon.

BE FIT FOR LIFE Motivational Movement Unplug to understand our motivation to move! When it comes to physical literacy, there is more to the physical act of learning how to move, we also develop out motivation. When moving and playing outdoors, we are able to think clearer and consider what motivates us to move. How do we develop a love for movement that will keep us coming back for more? One easy way to do this is to simply spend uninterrupted time outdoors! Exploring nature’s playground is a great way to help children develop physical literacy and adults/parents to clear their mind. There are plenty of things to climb, balance on, hop over and lots of open space to run and get that heart pumping and feeling good. Spending time in nature is good for the whole family – the scientific benefits are seemingly endless – improved mood, stress reduction, reduction in ADHD symptoms, lower blood pressure, better grades in school and/or focus at work, just to name a few. The research is undeniable – spending time in nature is essential for good health, the problem is that we are actually spending more time indoors. So the challenge to you is to “unplug” and get outside, regardless of the weather!

With your helmet sitting level on your head, you should be able to place no more than 2 fingers between your eyebrows and the bottom of your helmet. 2.
