Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. (see rates below).

Prisoner of War Camp #133, Second World War In November 1942, 75 years ago, Prisoner of War Camp #133 opened in North Lethbridge. Designed for 12,500 prisoners, the camp was required to hold over 13,000 soldiers when the opening of the Medicine Hat camp was delayed by fire. This made the Lethbridge camp the largest prisoner of war camp in Canada.

The camp operated until 1946, when the prisoners were returned to Germany after the end of the war. Throughout the war, the camp was guarded by members of the Veterans Guard.

The camp was a city onto itself, running a mile north from 5 Avenue North and a mile east from 28 Street North. Approximately 1000 of the prisoners volunteered to work on farms, lumber camps and other operations across the area throughout the war.

The Lethbridge Branch was established in 1942, was a founding member of the Allied Arts Council and has been active in the community ever since. The LRMTA presents a number of recitals each year, including a Canada Music Week recital in November and a spring recital in preparation for the Kiwanis Festival. Twice a year, opportunities for adult students to share their music in a supportive performance setting are offered. Workshops and master classes, in collaboration with other organizations, are also presented. The members of LRMTA promote a love and knowledge of music through professional music teaching. Its members and students contribute to the community as church musicians; accompanists for school choirs, community choirs and dance studios; as entertainers in senior centres, lodges and at other community events; and as supporters of the arts through attendance at arts events. Get Out and Embrace Winter As winter weather starts to approach, we tend to start limiting our time outdoors. We tend to have a negative attitude towards the colder weather and an increased fear about safety during the winter. These fears are a major barrier that prevent children from gaining exposure to all the benefits that winter has to offer. The colder weather has some incredible benefits for not only our health and well-being, but also for our children’s as well. Here are a couple of the many benefits to embracing the winter months: 1. Get to see the outdoors with a different perspective and spark creativity – fallen leaves, brown grass, hoarfrost, and snow. 2. Increases in exercise and using different muscles – sledding, trudging through snow and balancing on ice. 3. Getting fresh air and avoiding bacteria. 4. New challenges and problem-solving. 5. Vitamin D exposure – help regulate mental and emotional moods.

Joining Forces Again for Christmas

Once again, Interfaith Food Bank, Lethbridge Food Bank and Salvation Army will join forces to ensure that less fortunate members of our community get everything they need for a Merry Christmas. Because we share clientele, we will work together to serve over 1800 households this Christmas, making the most of our resources and eliminating the duplication of services. This year we expect to assist as many as 2300 adults and 2000 children. Christmas Hampers - Christmas Hampers will be standardized and will include day to day food and holiday goodies, regardless of which agency clients access. Visit our joint website, www.ChristmasHope.ca for our wishlist items. Food and Toy Collections and Fund-raising— Each agency will be required to recruit support from within the community to come up with all of the supplies and resources required for this joint project. Donors can contribute at any location and we will arrange for proper distribution. Please note: While we are working together on this Christmas Project, we still have requirements to meet on an individual organization basis. Food and Cash donations should be made to your charity of choice.

Interfaith Food Bank to be matched with a family, then purchase all necessary supplies and drop off the bundle of cheer at Interfaith for us to distribute. For those who choose to shop – please contact Interfaith for a list of items to include with your bundle. For those who do not have time to shop – we will do the work for you; simply make a donation designated for one of the following: Family of 2 - $150; Family of 3-4 - $200; Family of 5-6 - $250; Family of 7-8 - $300

Under the Tree Toy & Gift Program: Put a tree up in your office, church, school or business and encourage others to bring food, toys, goodies, or stocking stuffers for children 17 years and under. No room for a tree? We will provide you with a decorative bin to collect items on behalf of Interfaith Food Bank, and will even pick it up when it is full. Please do not wrap gifts, and we would like to have bins returned between December 4-8th. Encourage others to be a “Secret Santa” for families in need.
