Admissions, Visit Cards and Memberships (all prices include GST) New Aquatic Membership Program The City of Lethbridge has recently launched new leisure management software. Through this new electronic system, pass holders will need to use a swipe card called a Fun Pass. The Fun Pass can be used to access a number of City facilities including memberships for most pools and skating rinks. Along with the launch of the Fun Pass comes more streamlined pool membership options and a new fee structure. •The recreation pass and the fitness advantage pass options have been combined into one single pass and merged into a new fee structure. • The Fun Pass will give access to three indoor facilities (Fritz Sick, Nicholas Sheran and Stan Siwik) along with the Henderson outdoor pool in the summer season. Pass holders are able to access all facility programing given they meet the age and program requirements. Please see Program Choices in the Guide for more information. •A 1 month and 12 month membership option has been added on top of the existing 3 and 6 month options. •Another price level has been added to separate children and youth. FAQ’s - How Do I Become An Instructor & Lifeguard

The suggested first step is to take the the Standard 1st Aid (with CPR-C/AED) course. Then take the Bronze Medallion / Bronze Cross course - these 2 certifications allow you to apply as a Slide Attendant at Henderson Outdoor Pool. Next is the Water Safety Instructor course - this certification allows you to apply as an Instructor. Lastly is the National Lifeguard course - this certification allows you to apply as a Lifeguard. Please note that Recreation Excellence requires all Aquatic Staff to have a WSI certification as part of their employment. We recommend to do WSI before NL. Standard First Aid and CPR C with AED is a 16 hour course. Candidates must be 12+yrs of age. Bronze Medallion/Cross is a 32 hour course that will certify the successful candidate in both Bronze Medallion & Cross. Candidates must be 13+ yrs or have completed Bronze Star. Bronze Medallion is tested before testing for Bronze Cross (Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for National Lifeguard). Water Safety Instructor: WSI is approximately 36hrs. held on 5 days over the course of several weeks. The course covers the foundation of instructional skills including teaching methods, learning styles, planning, teaching and evaluating swimmers. Candidates are evaluated throughout the course and through individual study assignments. Successful candidates are certified as Water Safety Instructors and will be able to teach Red Cross Swim programs. Candidates must be 15yrs by the end of the course, hold a current Standard 1st Aid / CPR certification and attend 100% of the course to complete.

National Lifeguard: NL is a 40 hour course that will certify successful candidates with the NL Pool certification. Candidates must be 16+ years old, have current Bronze Cross and Standard 1st Aid / CPR C / AED certifications.

Prince of Wales 1919 Visit On 2 October 1919, Edward, Prince of Wales, visited Lethbridge. This was the first time an heir to the British throne visited the community.

The prince was traveling across Canada, visiting communities and thanking Canada’s for its role in the war. The Lethbridge community learned in July that he would visit Lethbridge as part of his cross-country tour but that he would only spend four hours in the city. The organizers were able to convince him to expand the length of his visit and they made every effort to welcome him to the community.

He was met at the train station with the firing of the royal salute of 21 guns by a crew of artillery veterans. During his visit, there was a readying of the civic address and the prince’s reply as well as a visit by the Prince to one of the local school, an inspection of the Boys Scouts and Girls Guide, a visit to a Blackfoot camp set up at the Mounted Police barracks and a reception for the next-ofkin of those who lost family in the First World War. The Prince also presented decorations to fourteen veterans and inspected the local veterans. This was followed by a smoker at the Veterans’ Club. Following his visit to Lethbridge, the Prince boarded his train and went on to Fort Macleod.

Libraries are all about stories – but we’re also all about community!

As part of our 100th anniversary celebrations we are collecting YOUR stories about Lethbridge. We want to capture the experience of living in Lethbridge up to and including the year 2019 to create our version of a time capsule. The stories gathered will be vetted by a team of story experts – including Lethbridge Public Library’s Writer in Residence – and up to 100 stories will be chosen to be included in a bound copy of Letters for Lethbridge to be made available on the shelves of the Lethbridge Public Library. Visit our website www.lethlib.ca for more information and submission guidelines.
