major new complex at Balloch, and as this issue was going to press an initial consultation event was about to be staged in Alexandria Parish Church. It will be the first time local residents will have had a proper chance to review details of the Flamingo Land plan, and will be the big local talking point of the summer – but what’s it all about? The big fear from the outset is that an area best known for its outstanding natural beauty could be home to a sort of Alton Towers scheme, one totally at odds with either its surroundings or sustainable tourism ambitions – and of course the firm itself has been at pains to insist nothing of the sort is being considered.

Many objectors want the local landscape to stay pretty much as it is.

Just because it runs a funfair in Yorkshire doesn’t mean the Balloch plan will replicate any of these features, and instead the firm will play up its success as a business enterprise and solid operator in the context of a scheme that will be all about empathy for the local landscape and with the National Park. Against their carefully measured argument, though, is the fact that at the last count the number of objections to the scheme was already said to be nudging 19,000 – and that will surely grow. It could be argued that a fair

number of these objectors are just against any major new development taking place at the site, and that is a perfectly reasonable stance to take, but the would-be developers will be more interested in nailing down the factors which might pose a threat to their scheme in terms of planning law. The plan includes proposals for features that would include a brewery, a monorail, an eco-park, hotel and holiday lodges, but how all these and other elements fit together will be subjected to minute scrutiny in weeks to come.

EPIC CHAMPIONSHIP DAYS West Dunbartonshire already boasts a welter of premier league summer events, but next month sees the launch of an incredible lochside contest that will be viewed by millions. The only minor snag with the European Water Swimming Championships is that it is officially part of “Glasgow 2018” – which in marketing terms makes this amazing local phenomenon look as if it is a bolt-on to some extravaganza in the city. But that is a purely parochial concern, and won’t bother either the contestants or the hundreds of spectators certain to flock to the bonny banks between August 2 and 12.

The wider contest involves different sports, and is spread across a number of venues – but within all of that Loch Lomond should easily be the most compelling location. TV viewers across the continent will get the chance to see the beauty of Loch Lomond and The National Park through coverage of Open Water Swimming while local residents and sports fans can watch the sporting action on their doorsteps – for free. Even if you have no interest in major swimming

competitions you may want to be one of the many certain to enjoy an ambitious programme of entertainment to be staged in Balloch on August 11. It will feature an array of local performers along with community groups and international acts, with street theatre and music, and will probably be one of the area’s busiest days of the year. Local residents will see plenty of preparatory work taking place this month, and special measures for traffic – both roadside and on the loch – will be available around now. The construction of the infrastructure for the event will begin from July 23 and evidence of the competition remain in place until August 19. To find about more about the European Championships go to www.glasgow2018.com.

“By signing the Make a Stand pledge, West Dunbartonshire Council has committed to supporting people in its communities and it is no exaggeration to say that this could save a life.” The No Home for Domestic Abuse campaign will protect victims and their families by introducing a presumption that all tenancies for couples are in joint names.

tackle this issue. These are our homes, our people and this is our problem.

Make a Stand scheme launched in West Dunbartonshire

The council is acting in response to figures which highlight West Dunbartonshire as having the highest incidences of domestic abuse per head of the population in Scotland. The launch of the new initiative means that as well as the practical help, legal assistance and tenancy rules introduced for No Home for Domestic Abuse, the authority has committed to providing a support service for residents.

If an incident of domestic abuse occurs, the victim will legally be entitled to remain in the home. The council will also take a tough stance on tenants found guilty of committing domestic abuse by offering them only short-term tenancies and ensuring the property is at a distance from the victim. Housing staff will partner with police, courts and criminal justice teams to coordinate swift action against the most serious offenders.

In fact it is one of a handful of must-do traditional Games events in West Central Scotland, and despite its strong accent on competition also has all the makings of a traditional summer gala – and is a great family day out. Events will include wrestling, cycling, tossing the caber, and tug of war, but perhaps the most eagerly anticipated competition of the day will be the Scottish Highland Games Association World Heavyweight Championship.

Meanwhile the council’s new £15.4million offices in the town centre have been open just over a month, and will be the base for 500 employees relocating from the old building on Garshake Road and other satellite offices.

It’s estimated the move will bring savings of around £400,000 per year, which at a time of financial stringency has to be a major bonus.

Put simply, the council thinks the estimated 40 jobs it will bring is an acceptable price to pay for allowing the stores firm to build on what some argue is a sensitive site.

There’s also a chip pan fire display – with some good advice on how to avoid the real thing – and even a fingerprinting session.

The face of Dumbarton town centre is gradually changing, as long-held development plans take effect – but feelings are mixed about the imminent arrival in the Burgh of supermarket Lidl.

When police in Dumbarton were planning this month’s open day they were careful to advertise one of the attractions as “a tour” of the cells – not “a stay” in them!

Children in both Renton and Alexandria packed up for the summer holidays on a positive note, after it was agreed to invest more than £15million in a new education campus in Renton. The education committee meeting also approved a programme of extensive refurbishment of a primary school in Alexandria. The recent meeting approved plans to refurbish St Mary’s Primary School in Alexandria, and it's planned to start work on both of these exciting projects before the end of the year. Meanwhile there will be more work done to bring the existing St Martin's Primary in Renton up to a grade B condition and ensure that it continues to comply with Health and Safety requirements. There was also approval for a

Renton Primary School

recommendation to appoint a contractor for the newbuild Renton Primary; Language and Communication Base – and, finally, the Riverside Early Learning and Childcare Centre was also approved. It amounts to a seismic leap forward for local school amenities, and comes after consultation with the local community – and in another development around eleven different main proposals to emerge from these talks are now being analysed. Education convener Councillor Karen Conaghan said: “As a Council we want to provide the best possible learning experiences

St Mary's Primary

for our young people to ensure they achieve and attain all that they are capable of, and the decision by the committee to progress with the new build at Renton and refurbishment at St Mary’s fully support this aim. “Every parent and carer wants the very best for their children and I appreciate the emotional connection that parents and communities have with their schools. “As a committee we have to look at the wider picture and take into account every aspect of any proposal, including, most importantly, the educational benefit any change would have.”

IT’S FESTIVAL TIME AT FENTON’S

Late News Monday 2nd

GAMES DAY OUT IN LUSS Is Fenton’s bar in Main Street, Jameston, the most impressive community-based music bar in Scotland?

It’s perhaps not so well known as the big Highland Games event in Balloch, but this month’s Luss Highland Gathering is another excellent opportunity to see a whole range of traditional competitive skills put to the test – and in a beautiful setting.

Plenty of people think so, on the form set by massively popular annual summer music festivals in recent years – and this year’s three day event (July 27 to 29) should easily be up to the usual high standard.

It’s also a real local tradition, stretching all the way back to 1875, with Games staged every year since then with an unfortunate but necessary couple of interruptions during the world wars.

If it were simply a profitspinner that might be fair enough, but the cash from all ticket sales goes directly to CHAS, whose Robin House in Balloch is one of the area’s most cherished causes. You’ll find full details on Fenton’s Bar’s FB site.

This year there’s a poignant reminder of the extraordinary links between Scotland and Canada with the launch of a new trophy in memory of Bruce Barnett-Cowan – whose widow Alyson presented the Games with a handsome shield, to be presented to the winner of the Open Piping (March) competition.

The couple faithfully attended the Games during their stay in the UK from 2009 to 2014, when they were members of the Clan Colquhoun Society. The event includes Highland dancing, solo piping, wrestling, light field, heavyweights, cycling and running, and will be officially opened at 11am on July 7 by chieftain for the day Patrick Colquhoun in the village’s Games Field. July 2018 | What's Up Doc?

VALE HOSPITAL CAMPAIGN A major leaflet-drop exercise promoting the strong points of the Vale of Leven Hospital aims to get the word out that this local resource is a sound choice for the treatment of minor injuries. Promoted under the banner Vale of Leven Hospital – Here for You, the campaign has been informing residents of the services they can access.

“We have a fantastic community facility right on our doorstep and want to ensure all of our residents know they can benefit from it if they require medical attention.”

with Dr Nick Dunn

This month: PLANNING AHEAD… A few weeks ago the Scottish government produced a report on health priorities for the next decade. It encourages innovative and new ideas to bring about a healthier Scotland, and rightly says that “wellbeing cannot be created by the NHS alone”.

Council leader Jonathan McColl said: “There has been an increase in the number of people using the Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) at the Vale, which is really positive. “We are keen to work with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to do everything we can to build on that by highlighting the range of services available, including the MIU.

What's Up Doc?

Jane Grant, chief executive of NHSGGC said: “We are very proud of our staff and the services we provide at the Vale of Leven Hospital for the people of West Dunbartonshire. “The Vale has a very special place in the heart of the people of West Dunbartonshire and we are happy to get behind the council’s campaign to promote our services to local communities”.

The key areas for action include creating healthy communities, child health, mental well-being, harmful substances (such as smoking, drugs and alcohol), poverty and obesity. It says that foundations for good health are laid down at home and at school, but currently Scottish people are generally less healthy than most other people across

Europe. It suggests that modern technologies may play a part in making a difference in the future, possible using social media and artificial intelligence to support traditional approaches. It is hoped that greater wellness will result from improved education, activity levels, access to sports facilities and better alternatives to junk food. Whilst some cynics may say that this could be a way to divert attention away from financial pressures in the NHS, it is certainly true that good habits start early! Perhaps the future will see Scotland lose its reputation of heavy drinking and over-eating, and instead be renowned for its athletes and healthy living!

MP MARTIN IS ON THE RUN It’s always good when a public figure gives a boost to a cause with a strongly local focus, and that’s exactly what’s happening as West Dunbartonshire MP Martin Docherty-Hughes sets out to join the Scottish Half Marathon in September. Martin is raising funds for local charity Carers of West Dunbartonshire, and his justgiving link is open if anyone wishes to add a donation - he is hoping to raise £1,000, and with a bit of help the final tally could be nudged a little higher. The MP launched his fundraising campaign ahead of Carers Week 2018, with the aim of collecting both cash and raising the profile of a local community group which provides support to carers across Dumbarton, the Vale of Leven and Clydebank. He doesn’t say so, explicitly, but of course if anyone else feels inspired to take part in the Half Marathon on Sunday, September 23 there’s still time to put in all the necessary training – it’s a 13.1 mile slog, so shouldn’t be undertaken lightly, but is obviously not quite as

daunting as an actual marathon of twice that distance. All of the cash from Martin’s run will go towards supporting the work of the Carers of West Dunbartonshire. He said: “The contribution carers make to our communities is priceless and I’m delighted to be running my first ever halfmarathon in support of the Carers of West Dunbartonshire. “Along with my brother and sister, I know first-hand the challenges of being a carer from a young age. “Carers go that extra mile every single day, so the prospect of running 13.1 miles feels easy by comparison. “Carers Week is a great opportunity to show appreciation for the vital work our local carers do across Dumbarton, the Vale

Martin launches his fundraising bid with Liz Anderson (left) and Joanne McGinely (right) of Carers of West Dunbartonshire

of Leven and Clydebank, and I’d encourage anyone interested to get involved. “My fundraising page is now up and running at www.justgiving. com/fundraising/martin-dochertyhughes. Any donations, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated with every penny raised going towards this fantastic charity.” Joanne McGinley at Carers of West Dunbartonshire, said: “We are

delighted that Martin has chosen our charity to raise money while highlighting the challenges that carers face. “Carers Week raises awareness of the contribution that carers make to families and communities. This year’s campaign focuses on supporting carers to stay healthy and connected. “We wish Martin the best of luck in his run and appreciate his ongoing support.”

GOLF GLORY FOR ALGER TEAM Amateur awards were also presented to Alan Rushworth for being Nearest the Pin; Jack Savage for the Longest Drive; and Gordon McFarlane for being Nearest the Line. Provost William Hendrie said: “We couldn’t have asked for better weather for today’s game and it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the course. Pro-Am golf winning team Alger's Dumbarton

A team of colleagues from Alger Electrics in Dumbarton have won this year's West Dunbartonshire Pro-Am 2018 golf tournament.

DEEDUBZ A total of 35 teams took part in the event - in its 32nd year - with each group of three amateurs joined by a professional player. It was a resounding triumph for the local firm, competing against a strong field, in a popular annual contest in which the result can often be in doubt until the contest is well-advanced – and in an area where golf is hugely popular there is never any shortage of talent.

The sun was shining as Michael Devoy, Brian O’Neil, Gordon Lynn and their designated pro Christopher Currie, of Erskine Golf Club, tee’d off at the popular event, held at Dalmuir Golf Course in Clydebank.

Meanwhile there was a separate award for the professional with the best individual score, and this year the prize went to Ross Cameron, with a score of six under par.

“The winning team performed exceptionally well and there was real competition out there for the big prize. “I would like to thank all of the professionals who took part and made the 2018 competition one of the best yet. It's important to recognise the team behind the scenes who deserve immense credit for their continuing efforts to successfully deliver the Pro-am. “I would also like to thank our partners the Scottish Professional Golfers Association for their support once again and we look forward to many more editions of the West Dunbartonshire Pro-Am.”

July 2018 | Summer Feature

Summer Dip into

The summer holidays are on us and at time of writing we’ve just had a great spell of good weather. It is to be hoped that the school hols don’t bring the traditional deluge. (writes Nick Cowie) For singles, couples and families alike the high spot will be getting away from work for two weeks of sea, sun and sangria. But remember you go away to wind down and de-stress. Plan your holiday schedule for quality, not quantity. Adopting the theory that "less is more" can help you to enjoy your time

with family and friends. Plan some time to yourself. Choose something you enjoy doing alone, such as reading, taking a bath, yoga, walking or listening to music, and do it for at least 15 minutes per day. So that’s the top two weeks, but the school holidays stretch to six weeks and time can, as we know,

start to drag for young people despite social media and video games. A quick check around community and local council websites and indeed the Community Advertiser reveals a wealth of local events ranging from tennis camps to highland games, art,

drama and crafts classes. All the swimming pools also have special programmes and coaching sessions. Traditional pastimes like picnics are always popular. Let the children pick somewhere on the map (say within 30-40 miles) that you haven’t been to before

Summer Feature | July 2018 and make a day of it. Take a picnic lunch and explore your surroundings. You never know what you might find. You don’t even have to go out. A good one for a rainy day is to have a kids MasterChef competition at home. This works especially well if they have a few friends over. Have a competition for who makes the best pizza. Making dough from scratch is fun (and tiring) but very inexpensive. Plus an added bonus, you don’t have to cook dinner. We sometimes forget that right on our doorstep are two top international destinations, Glasgow and the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, but how many of us become tourists for the day ourselves? Top of any list must be the freebies, especially if the holiday money cache is looking a bit depleted. Start at the Kelvingrove museum, a family favourite for generations. This summer, you'll be able to see a fascinating, myth-busting new exhibition looking at ancient Egyptian animal mummies called Gifts for the Gods: Animal Mummies Revealed. There are 20 free

museums in the city to check out too, not to mention around 90 parks and gardens. A Sunday walk down the City’s Style Mile can end at The St Enoch Centre where they paint little ones faces for free every Sunday from 12-4pm. You can bask on the beach too. The Riverside Museum's summer beach returns for the holidays. Check out the exhibits on at the museum, and step aboard The Tall Ship Glenlee for a taste of Glasgow's maritime heritage. The National Library of Scotland at Kelvin Hall is an exciting new visitor experience with entertainment and inspiration for all ages and features a celebration of 80 years of the Beano. July in the National Park is the best time of year for local festivals including food, drink and music - such as the Lomond Folk Music Festival. There are organised nature walks, water activities and of course various Scottish Highland Games including the Rosneath Gathering, Luss Highland Gathering or Loch Lomond Highland Games all celebrated in July. In fact, So much to do that there will be plenty of ideas left over for next year.

The Esplanade Hotel is situated on the West Bay Promenade of Dunoon. Perfect for those who like to escape from the hustle and bustle, the Esplanade Hotel is the ideal location to relax & unwind with the beach right outside the hotel. The Esplanade Hotel is a traditional hotel, best suited for those who just want to sit, relax and watch the world go by…

When you’ve done all the immediately local Highland Games events you might just consider a final fling by taking a wee trip to enjoy what many still see as the grand-daddy of them all – the Cowal Highland Gathering in Dunoon on August 23 to 25. This is a spectacular event which traditionally attracts competitors from across the west coast and far beyond, and a chance to enjoy one of the country’s most attractive locations at a time when summer is on the verge of turning into autumn. For full details of this premier league annual event visit www.cowalgathering.com

Contempt of court is the term used for an interference with the administration of justice. It can take many forms and under the Contempt of Court Act 1981 is punishable by a maximum sentence of three months’ imprisonment, a fine or possibly both. The court process itself demands a certain level of behaviour or conduct in order to be able to function effectively. An individual cannot enter a court room and interrupt proceedings; a newspaper must be careful about publishing details that may be prejudicial to a trial, jurors must not discuss details of a case they are sitting on. A wilful and deliberate disregard for a civil court order could be considered contempt.

A common example of this would be where one parent has an order from the court providing them with contact with their child and the parent with residence refuses to make the child available. Courts have historically been reluctant to impose a prison sentence for this type of contemp. However, parties are becoming increasingly proactive in pursuing contempt proceedings in family actions and the courts are showing a firmer stance against parents who are deliberately being obstructive. You should contact your solicitor for advice if you require assistance with raising or responding to contempt proceedings.

WOLVES SET FOR A RETURN? Many people regularly complain that the whole notion of “rewilding parts of the country with wolves is completely insane, putting livestock under threat and bringing back problems we haven’t experienced since the 17th century. But university teams from down south are still doggedly pursuing the notion, and according to recent press reports are convinced that fenced-off enclosures – as in wolf parks in several other countries – could be feasible. There’s no saying whether the idea could ever take root in West Dunbartonshire, but within living memory we’ve had a bear park on Loch Lomond, and (arguably less alarming than wolves or bears) we’ve seen trials for the reintroduction of beavers in the west of Scotland.

occupying a large area could help to keep down the numbers of deer herds said to be holding back the return of woodland – and that adequate fencing would help to ensure there were no unfortunate encounters between wolves and humans.

Now researchers from the universities of Kent and Sussex have reportedly concluded that around 80 wolves

Their conclusions are based on computermodel studies of behaviour, but – if a large and voluble number of opponents have their way – their studies will never become reality. Every year we are issued with warnings about the dangers of allowing dogs off the leash in

countryside, because of the carnage even a small animal can cause among flocks of sheep – but it’s argued wolves would present a clear and present danger, with no precautions being likely to prove wholly effective.

Can you sell space? We are looking for a positive and outgoing media tele sales professional to join our team and sell advertising in our four glossy monthly magazines.

Good Basic ÂŁ30,000 OTE

It’s fair to say reactions broadly range from “unconvinced to “resolutely opposed, and any plan to have wolves anywhere more accessible than Edinburgh Zoo are likely to face an uphill struggle.

If this sounds like the job for you please send your CV to:

The arguments will continue, but for most of us the notion of having packs of savage wild dogs roaming our countryside will continue to be just so much howling at the moon.

GETTING IT RIGHT ON SAFETY Children also tried on safety and protective clothing worn by the staff – just to reinforce the message. Robert said: “It was great to see the children of St Patrick’s Primary School engage with our presentation, and I was delighted to see many of them had an interest in finding out how we build our new home.

St Patricks's Primary learn about safety on building sites

You’re never too young to learn about the importance of safety on building sites, so builder Taylor Wimpey has staged a special “take care” session for children at Dumbarton’s St Patrick’s Primary School on the do’s and don’ts involved. The company was acting on the premise that a lesson understood now can help to stave off all sorts of potential dangers in the future – as with any other type of essential safety procedure – and turned what could have been a dull pep talk into an interesting step by step guide to the realities of life on a site, illustrating why

people of all ages have to exercise proper caution. Site manager Robert McGinney from the firm’s local development, the Fairways, led the presentation for the P1-P7 pupils, stressing the importance of safety warning signs, building site machinery, protective clothing and more.

At Taylor Wimpey, we are committed to working closely with the local communities that we build in, so it is vital that we inform children in schools around our developments about the risks to look out for around our construction sites.” Ms Bean, Head teacher at St Patrick’s Primary School said: “It’s good to see a company like Taylor Wimpey taking the time to talk to children about something that really matters. “They did a great job of keeping the children engaged with their interactive presentation, whilst teaching them about the importance of health and safety on a building site”.

ST PETER'S RESCUE BID FAILS

A light show was staged in 2016

Seminary will remain a ruin

An arts company leading a £10m bid to salvage St Peter’s Seminary near Cardross has folded after it failed to secure funding. The arts company NVA had been at the forefront of plans to rescue the modernist building. But it now has announced it is to close, partly because it failed to find the money needed for St Peter’s full restoration. The seminary, which became derelict after it was abandoned in 1980, is regarded as a modernist masterpiece.

NVA, a critically acclaimed arts company that specialised in open air light, sound and kinetic productions launched a bid to rescue the building after staging its Hinterland show at St Peter’s in 2016. The light and sound show launched the Scottish government's festival of architecture. The event sold out and audiences came from across the UK and Europe.

It was built in 1966 as a training centre for priests to a design by the architects Gillespie, Kidd and Coia, but was never entirely watertight. Since it closed down, its arches and walls have become covered in graffiti and battered by the elements.

NVA were given a £4.2m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Creative Scotland in March 2016 to allow key parts of the building to be made weathertight and protected, to ensure it was safe for public performances and activities.

POLISHING

A path network, walled garden and bridges in the surrounding 104-acre estate – were also to be restored. However NVA said in a statement: “Despite our best efforts we were unable to guarantee the viable future for the St Peter's Seminary that we had imagined and hoped for. In the end, we had no choice but to bring the capital project to an end.” It said its efforts to find an alternative plan for the seminary and its own business floundered after Creative Scotland, the arts funding agency, announced in January NVA would not be given core funding.

When Prince Harry married Meghan Markle it could have been a case of perfect timing for Dumbarton, because in just under two years time the Burgh is set to proudly advertise its many strengths to a wider public. It might sound super-ambitious, but it’s hoped that the Earl of Dumbarton (that’s Harry) and his countess could be a star turn at a new four-day Dumbarton Festival – with even a brief appearance likely to massively increase its profile. Among those involved in the project are the Dumbarton Castle Society and the council, and

although plans are at an early stage an outline of what could be involved is already under discussion – music, heritage and sports events are all likely to figure. Local MSP Jackie Baillie is among those keen to promote the potential of this brand new event, and her input could be useful in persuading the royal couple to

Showing the world that despite challenging problems of deprivation Dumbarton still has the motivation to put its best features on show could be a morale-booster capable of shaking loose further benefits in terms of renewed interest among employers – and it would be difficult, for example, to imagine Chivas not wishing to get involved, given the town’s historic and modern-day link with Scotland’s most famous industry. But will the royals turn up to provide what many might see as the icing on the cake? From their point of view it would be a great opportunity to show solidarity with the area whose title they proudly carry so, yes, it could happen.

ALEXANDRIA WRITERS’ DAYS Fascinating Facts With no great fuss or publicity a group of local writers have set up a flourishing group in Alexandria, where new members – experienced wordsmiths or complete beginners – are always welcome. Experienced writer Mary Irvine is a prime mover, also giving talks on local history and iconic local rights champion Margaret Harrison – she has even had some of her short stories translated into Greek and published in that language. Mary has been working hard to create new events and opportunities for local writers, recognising that in an area which responds so enthusiastically to the annual literary festival there is no shortage of potential interest. She launched an “open mic” night in Balloch which has successfully attracted writers from outwith the area, and last month organised a special writers’ day at Fruin Farm – and there are plenty of other plans in the pipeline. Most of the other members have also had work published, both poetry and prose, in magazines

and anthologies, but this isn’t some reclusive band of ivory tower experts, and the whole idea is to encourage people who may only have dabbled until now to meet other writers and explore their own full potential. The group meets every Wednesday in Alexandria Library from 1.30pm to 3.30pm all year round, and has a very flexible programme to ensure it meets the needs and requests of the members - although typically there’s a focus on poetry in one meeting and on prose in the next.

PEOPLE WANTED NEW LIDL “The local community have been extremely supportive of our proposal to bring new shopping options to the town, and we would like to take the opportunity at this time to thank everyone who has helped secure this positive result.” Construction is set to begin later this year with a view to opening the store in autumn 2019.

New Lidl store artist impression

Opinion may be sharply divided on whether Dumbarton's new Lidl store will bring a boon or an eyesore to the town – but the firm itself reckons community support won the day. The company first revealed in 2016 that it wanted to open a store in the Burgh, as part of its ongoing expansion ambitions. There are arguments that the high profile site isn’t suitable for a supermarket, but against that Lidl is confident many local residents will find it a convenient addition to local shopping facilities.

“I am very much looking forward to opening our doors and offering our fresh, quality, great value products in the not too distant future.

Lidl says it has experienced continued growth in Scotland over the years as consumers flock to the supermarket to discover “great value” products – currently sourced from over 60 Scottish suppliers - ranging from fruit and vegetables, to dairy and bakery lines. The Dumbarton store will add to Lidl’s existing store portfolio in the UK of over 710 stores, and will form part of the company’s growth plans which will see it open up to 50 new stores a year across the UK.
