January is often said to be the best month to visit Chiang Mai because the rains have gone and the skies are cool and clear. This is a wonderful season for appreciating nature. Take some time to visit the mountains and witness the lifestyles of the various ethnic hilltribes. Bear in mind that this is high season, so thousands of tourists, both Thai and foreign, come to Chiang Mai. You may find long queues at temples or popular attractions. Airport taxi to anywhere downtown is 150 baht. For rides outside the ‘metropolis’: 50 baht as soon as you get in the cab, then 50 baht for the first two kilometres, and 10 baht per km thereafter. If you want to go somewhere outside the city, you will have to check the chart at the airport taxi counters (it’s usually 180 to 350 baht). 14
Airport Shuttle Bus (air-conditioned van) is available at Gate 9. Just 40 baht per person. Route 1: Airport–Central Kad Suan Kaew– Huay Kaew Road – Chiang Mai University; Route 2: Airport– Night Bazaar. Shuttles run 7am–9.30pm Shared red pick-up trucks (known as song-taew) are sometimes waiting at the exits or outside the airport. Price is about 40-60 baht.
There are about 2,000 Red Cabs (pick-ups or song-taew) available throughout the city. Fixed Route Red Cabs: From 15 baht. Enough Anyone who comes to Chiang Mai in the winter should, we believe, put Doi Inthanon firmly on their itinerary. Not only is it the highest peak in Thailand, but it has a marvelous ecosystem all of its own, and plays hosts to a wonderland of flowers, plants and wildlife.

Plan for the day
National park entrance fee
A half day really isn’t enough; you should ideally plan a full-day trip to go to Doi Inthanon or spend a night there. Otherwise you will be too rushed. It’s a popular attraction so lots of tour groups arrive during the day. Best time to see the wonders of nature are at sunrise and sunset, so try to factor that in.
Doi Inthanon National Park is open all year round. However, it has a dual-pricing policy, meaning foreigners pay much more than Thais. The entrance fee to the park for adults is 300 baht and 150 baht for children. Also, everyone pays 50 baht per car and 30 baht for a motorbike.
Getting there
Cool climes
You can hire a car or a motorbike for the day. It will take about 60 minutes to two hours to get to Doi Inthanon. You head out of Chiang Mai on the southbound Highway 108, which veers westwards towards the town of Chom Thong. The winding incline to Inthanon is the 109 Route. Alternatively, a slower but more family-friendly way of travelling there may be to go in a public pick-up truck – a yellow songtaew. Or, if you’re in a group, hiring a minibus will cost 1,000-1,500 baht for the day.
January is one of the best times to visit Doi Inthanon (another time is early November). In fact, the weather can get very cold, even frosty. The forest is in autumnal flux with many of the trees turning yellow and brown.

The peak The highlight of Doi Inthanon is the peak, which is 2,565 metres above sea level. You can drive right to the top and park. There is a small military base with radio antennae and satellite nearby. Of course, you have to take a selfie in front of the sign reading, “The Highest Spot in Thailand”. And just behind the sign there is a forest path that leads to a wee stupa dedicated to King Inthawichayanon, the ruler of Chiang Mai around 120 years ago.
Ang Ka Nature Trail Close to the peak, look for the highly recommended Ang Ka Nature Trail, the highest wetland in the country. It traverses the forest via wooden bridges and footpaths, and is very mossy and slippery during rainy season. You’ll need just 20 to 30 minutes to stroll the path and ford the streams, but it’s well worth it. This is a watershed area and is often misty. Look out especially in January for the blooming Red Azalea. You might also be interested to know there are over 380 species of birds in this area.
Kiew Mae Pan Nature Trail Kiew Mae Pan is one of the most popular and beautiful nature trails in the North. You can walk easily and comfortably on this three-kilometer route which takes about 2-3 hours. The highlights of Kiew Mae Pan are the wild flora on the landscape; look for the Zingiberaceae flowering plants (related to the ginger family) and lots and lots of moss and lichen covering the trees. If you’re lucky, you may see a goral rummaging around the cliff-face. Take time

to breathe in the fresh air while listening to the sound of the babbling waterfalls. This is a true paradise for nature lovers and anyone who wants to escape the chaos of the city for a day.
Flowers of Doi Inthanon January is the season for blooms and is one of the highlights of any trip to Doi Inthanon. Along the road to the peak, especially the last 10 kilometers, you’ll see Wild Himalayan Cherry or Thai Sakura trees, as well as white and red azalea. You can also stroll through a small and well-tended garden near the peak.
Wachiratharn Waterfall This is one of the largest waterfalls in the country and flows some 80 meters over a terraced cliff. Standing in front of the cascade, you can close your eyes and listen to the crashing of water; it helps you realise the magnificence and splendor of nature. We would like to recommend you try one of the restaurants in this vicinity. The stores also sell souvenirs and good food products.
Stay overnight There are many reasons why tourists love to stay at Doi Inthanon. First is that they do not want to hurry, and enjoy spending as much time as possible absorbing the beauty of nature. Another reason is to experience the cold misty atmosphere, something other parts of Thailand never see or feel. You can watch the stars at night and then wake up to a sunrise over a sea of mist. You’ll find a camp site at KM 30 (Khun Klang village). It has a National Park Office, and rents out tents and sleeping bags for about 300-500 baht a night. A nice icy morning shower is included free!
Dos & Don’ts Doi Inthanon is a national park, so they have strict rules to avoid damaging the ecosystem, as well as protecting visitors from dangerous cliffs and other areas. Of course you would never drop litter, but also note that you are not allowed to build a fire in the park. Carry plastic bags with you to take away any garbage when you leave. Also, keep to the marked trails and take care not to disturb any wildlife.

行前准备 因他侬山距离城区40公里，有多种方式可以出游，比 如：自驾、骑摩托车和参加一日游旅行团。其间会在路上花费 一个半小时的时间，沿108号公路出城转1009公路。其次从清 迈宗通县宗通寺外也可以乘坐上山的线路黄车，人多的话建议 包车前往（1000-1500泰铢/次），但要赶早儿。不要带太多行 李，一瓶水和相机足够，着登山装，保暖外套（不必太厚）。
因他侬山进山费 因他侬山一年四季对游客开放，成人300泰铢、儿童150 泰铢、汽车进山费50泰铢、摩托车进山费30泰铢。
旅行亮点 每年12月至1月底是进山的最佳季节，此时的气温会降到 最低，路边的樱花逐渐开放，原始森林内的常绿植物保持最佳 生长状态。

山顶 因他农山海拔2565米，大家都会去有“暹罗最 高地” (The Highest Spot in Thailand)字样的地方拍照 留念，其次是去有大型温度显示牌前“打卡”，温度 越低越兴奋，之后沿着山涧小道参拜“清迈城主”的 灵骨塔，出来有休息站和咖啡馆。
“安咖”自然小道
对面的山腰腹地是有名的“安咖”（Ang Ka Nature Trail） 自然小道，这是泰国唯一的高山湿地。沿着布满苔藓 的阶梯往下走，仿佛进入童话般的世界。小溪、千年 玫瑰、苔藓、地衣，偶尔发散出的薄雾，宛如话剧开 演一般把大家瞬间带入剧情，鸟儿们的叫声是本剧的 旁白，据说这里有380种珍稀鸟类。
“久湄班”森林徒步 泰北最受欢迎的森林徒步线路，全长仅3公里， 但来回需要走2-3小时，穿过原始森林，我们将会看到 传说中的云海奇观。 进山前，最好在休息站吃点东西，因为只能带 水进山，不可以带零食。在进山口需要登记几人成 团，10个人以下需要配备1-2名进山导游，10人以上需 要配备2名以上的导游，负责沿路讲解及游客安全，每 雇用一名导游，费用200泰铢。 走进原始森林，参天大树高昂耸立，形成天然 屏，山涧湍流的瀑布泉水滋养着万千植物。有许多寄 生根植物和蕨类植物，枯木随意倒下，新的植物又从 它身上再次生长。

导游会指导游客坐下休息，调节呼吸保持体力，大 概一小时后就能看见前方好似洞口大小的亮光，当我们 迎上去时，仙境般的云海扑面而来，大家都惊呼“太美 了”！一路上我们还会看到象征情比金坚的“爱情之 石”，娇媚的千年玫瑰。
瓦奇拉瀑布 下山后我们会经过泰国最大的瀑布——瓦奇拉瀑 布，瀑布高度落差80米，瀑布冲击力极强，当你努力走 到观景台，却早已被溅起的水雾浸湿。尽管如此，为了 一睹瓦奇拉瀑布的风采，游客们还是不惜一切代价冲上 去，感受那山水间的磅礴气势。 瓦奇拉瀑布景区有公共卫生间、停车场和食品区， 大家可以选择在这里吃饭，补充体力。这里的菜价不 贵，口味和菜品都比较适中，并且有当地的特产小吃可 以带走。
在因他侬山露营 如果大家打算在此露营，出发之前一定要做好更充 足的准备。首先保暖设备一定要准备齐全，还有露营设 备和充足的食物和水，虽说各个露营点都有帐篷租赁， 价格300-500泰铢/顶，但保暖设备还是自己多准备点比 较好。除此之外，因他侬山还有多家度假村酒店和民 宿，可以提前预订。
爱护森林 注意言行 因他侬山属于国家森林保护区，对游客有较为严格 的规定，不能破坏自然资源，并且园区配有多名巡山护 林人员。零食不能带入原始森林，垃圾扔在规定区域， 或者打包带回山下。未经允许，不可燃放火苗。保持安 静，不大声喧哗。

1. Scale a misty mountain For many visitors, double-digit temperatures are anything but cold. But here in Thailand, we are freeeeeezzzzing!!! Don your hiking boots, your hat and scarf, and head up one of the country’s highest peaks, perhaps Doi Inthanon, Doi Luang Chiang Dao, Doi Suthep or Doi Tung. These are scenic spots and if you can camp overnight or arrive before dawn, you’ll find yourself floating on a sea of morning mist.
2. Rickshaw you way around the Old City Of course you can walk, jog, cycle or even take a tuk-tuk, but why not indulge in the old-fashioned tried and tested rickshaw ride? You can find tricycle riders (most of them are quite elderly and friendly, but don’t speak much English) at Chiang Mai Gate or Ton Lamyai Market. A rickshaw ride starts at 200 baht and takes about 30-40 minutes. It’s a slow and simple way to appreciate the town, and helps uphold a healthy traditional career – that of the rickshaw rider.
3. Don’t forget to smell the flowers January is the best month of the year to see flowers blossoming in the surrounding hills, as well as the parks and gardens around the city. The highlight of this season is the bloom of the Wild Himalayan Cherry or Thai Sakura, which you can see on the south side of the moat. Visit highland royal projects or the Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden to see more. From 2–4 February, you can catch the Chiang Mai Flower Festival in the southwestern corner of the moat. It’s spectacular!
4. Go on elephant safari The cool season is the best time of year to visit elephants in northern Thailand, and many of the elephant conservation centres arrange special activities so that you can get up close and friendly with these beautiful creatures without exploiting or scaring them. Try the Elephant Nature Park in Mae Taeng, Friends of the Asian Elephant Hospital in Lampang or Patara Elephant Farm on the Samoeng Road.

5. Take a hike! January is the best time for hiking or trekking because the nature trails are dry, the weather is cool, and the forests are gorgeously painted in autumnal hues. A very popular one-day trail, not too far from Chiang Mai city, is at Doi Intahanon. It’s called the Kiew Mae Pan nature trail. It will take three or four hours and you’ll be rewarded with stunning panoramas and photogenic vistas. If you’re feeling even more energetic, try the Doi Luang Chiang Dao climb. You’ll need to book in advance with the park rangers, who’ll arrange a guide, pots and pans for cooking, and overnight tents. Well worth it!
6. Wake up and smell the coffee The northern region of Thailand has in recent years become well respected for its premium-grade Arabica coffee beans, which are grown in the highland villages near Chiang Mai. Now that the winter is here (yes, this is winter), coffee manufacturers try to maximize the amount of beans they roast. The result is that you can breathe in that sweet aroma of fresh coffee every time you walk through the doors of a café or bistro. Aaahhh, lovely!
7. Strawberry fields forever A relatively new crop in the former opium plantations around Chiang Mai, every year the strawberries get bigger and better and sweeter. Prepare yourself for the annual Strawberry Festival in Samoeng district, about an hour’s drive from town. It takes place in mid-January, and is a wonderful chance to experience a Thai village fair, as well as the jams, wines and delicious fresh strawberries at the stalls.

4.把腌好的肉倒入热锅中，少许清水，翻炒至水 开，再加适量清水，盖上锅盖，炖煮。 5.炖煮直到肉质软糯有弹性，加入甘蔗汁、酸角 汁，放入姜丝和蒜瓣儿，继续炖煮入味。 6.当汤汁渐少显浓稠的时候，放花生米关火出 锅。
