STRONGER THAN EVER With 31 convincing names in the official show schedule, and more than 1.600 brands represented at the trade fairs, the numbers speak for themselves. Copenhagen Fashion Week is stronger than ever. While CFW has grown to guarantee the showcase of numerous talented newcomers, quite a few established brands are returning to the schedule this week after some seasons absent. This will personally be my twentieth time attending Copenhagen Fashion Week, and I’m proud to have been part of the journey it has taken. A journey of growth from a small, rather local event into the Nordic Region’s largest and most attended fashion week with lots of international press coverage.
In your hands you have the very first CFW Daily copy with me at the helm. My team and I have attempted to maintain the newspaper’s professional level while trying to be more inclusive. What exactly goes down when planning a fashion show, attending a trade fair, or joining a fashion week party? And who are the main personas to know on the Scandinavian fashion scene? Throughout the week, we will make you wiser about these questions, both here in old-school print, and on copenhagenfashionweek.com, where you’ll find video portraits, short fashion films, style inspiration, and much more. Look for the play icon in the papers — that means the piece also has a video feature online. Don’t miss it, it’ll be fun and worth your while.
To showcase a brand in context, telling its particular story, has become more important than ever in a fast- and everchanging consumer world, where personal relations and authenticity are key. A personal experience is hopefully what you’ll get during Copenhagen Fashion Week, both during the shows and in the short breaks between them. CFW Daily is made to help you make the most of it, and is loaded with insider tips and recommendations for fashionable things to do in Copenhagen right now (crucially, this includes where to eat).

CFW DAILY INSIGHTS & RECOMMENDATIONS DAILY Designer
CHRISTINA EXSTEEN, CREATIVE DIRECTOR OF BY MALENE BIRGER SHOW: WEDNESDAY, 9TH OF AUGUST, 12:00-13.00 How do you prepare for fashion week – do you have a ritual? The last week before the show is always crazy. Here everything has to come together — all the ideas and thoughts come to life — the outfits, the cast of models, the set. It’s so much fun but also very demanding. To succeed I need structure and an overview. Also, no matter how busy or how late the days are, I always take time for a long walk when I get home. This is my time to reset my body and mind.
What are the three most important things to notice about the new collection? My main inspiration is São Paulo (I have been travelling there lately) and I wanted the collection to explore tropical escapes and deserted beaches but at the same time be about contrast, so also capture the endeavor of the big city. There is a real exotic expression in the accessories — a mischievous touch of reptile on a handcrafted bag and statement earrings. And as a contrast to this — a contemporary edge to the collection that shows that there is always more than one side to women’s lives — it’s about looking good and feeling confident and sexy.
We’ve asked four Copenhagen insiders about their hidden gems and favourite places to explore while staying in the Danish capital. Today, TV-host and culture journalist at DR K Chris Pedersen takes you through three of his favourites.
PHOTO: RIKKE WESTESEN.
1. KUNSTHAL CHARLOTTENBORG In the last couple of years, the director of Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Michael Thouber, has given fresh life to the art scene with plenty of open events, crazy exhibitions, and a new bar. The artist John Kørner is current these days with a huge retrospective exhibition, the film festival CPH:DOX uses Charlottenborg for film screenings, and this month, Chart Art will once again open its doors to some of the best Scandinavian art in the historical halls. It’s a huge pleasure to spend the day looking at art and then finishing off with a glass of wine and delicious food at Frederik Bille Brahes new café, Apollo, where the food, wine, and ambience couldn’t be better. Kunsthal Charlottenborg, Nyhavn 2, Central Copenhagen
Besides the By Malene Birger fashion show, what else are you looking the most forward to at CFW? I really enjoy the atmosphere when it’s fashion week, there is such a buzz of creativity. Also, it’s always a pleasure to run into everyone in the business that you don’t have enough time to see on a regular basis. It’s really great to have this time to catch up.
FASHIONABLE FAST FOOD Burgers seems to be the new black when it comes to fast food. Popping up on every street corner (with pictures flooding social media), Gasoline Grill, YoBurger, and Juicy Burger are just three of many trendy new burger bars that focus on simple yet well-made burgers. Gasoline Grill has grown popular after its classic burger was announced by Bloomberg as one of the world’s best, while YoBurger is famous for its avocado take on the classic. If you’re a vegetarian, then Juicy Burger offers a plant-based version — it’s not on the menu, but just ask and the guys behind the grill will flip it for you! Gasoline Grill, Landgreven 10, Central Copenhagen YoBurger, Gothersgade 27, Central Copenhagen Juicy Burger, Flæsketorvet 44, Vesterbro

2. BAR ROUGE Right in the middle of the shopping area of Værnedamsvej, a new little wine bar has just opened. Here you’ll find old rock vinyls, a fine selection of wine, and a very chic clientele. The name is Bar Rouge, and it’s tucked between shops like Wood Wood, Aesop, Mads Nørgaard and the beautiful flagship store of Soulland. Definitely an area to check out — best on Saturdays, when lunch should be eaten at Granola and drinks finished at Bar Rouge. Bar Rouge, Gammel Kongevej 43, border of Vesterbro and Frederiksberg 3. CC COPENHAGEN CONTEMPORARY Last year, CC opened a spectacular art gallery at Papirøen. The ambitions are as big as the enormous halls that have created completely new exhibition possibilities for great works by international artists like Yoko Ono, Anselm Kiefer, Céleste Boursier-Mougenot, and many others. The three-year project is definitely worth visiting, and is open until eight every night, which makes it fitting to walk over the small bridge for a bite at the delicious restaurant Den Vandrette, and then ending the night at Café Malmø, where you’ll probably meet everyone from old fishermen to top models and the crème-de-la-crème of Danish musicians. What is the first thing you plan to do after the show? I always drink a glass of champagne straight after the show to celebrate with my design team and the rest of the house. I remember that one time when someone had misplaced the champagne… I tell you, hell was loose. Ha ha, of course not, but it’s a tradition and a great way to celebrate. After that there are always a lot of press-related matters to deal with, so I can never really sit back and enjoy before much later.

– AN INSIDER’S GUIDE TO COPENHAGEN
What is your own favourite piece from the collection? Probably a glossy vinyl trench coat in black, or a simple khaki blouse with diamond crystals on the sleeves. And of course, also the handcrafted reptile bag. All three really epitomise the collection.
Search for the @cphfw Instagram and you’ll find fashion updates, give-aways, and various other inspiration throughout the week. Tag your most fashionable outfit picture and we might just feature it on Instagram and in this paper!

TRADE FAIRS BUYING DIRECTOR OF MAGASIN DU NORD, MARGRETHE DAL LEHRMANN ATTENDING: ALL OF THE TRADE FAIRS What trade fair will you be attending? I’m so lucky to have a job that’s almost better than Carrie’s in “Sex & the City” — I shop all day. As Buying Director of Magasin, I visit all of the trade fairs in Denmark and internationally to explore women- and menswear, accessories, lingerie, kidswear, cosmetics and living. How do you prepare for a day at the trade fairs? Before the trade fairs I always invite key partners from Copenhagen Fashion Week to Magasin, where they present what the forthcoming fashion week will include. Then, a few weeks before fashion week, I begin planning what shows I’ll be attending.
NEWCOMERS AND RETURNEES SHOW: WEDNESDAY, 9TH OF AUGUST, 16:00 Q&A WITH ANDREAS HOLZWEILER, CEO OF HOLZWEILER What is Holzweiler? Holzweiler evolved from the idea of creating unique items through high-quality materials and collaboration with contemporary artists. We strive to be a quintessential fashion house with the ability to create and develop our brand together with our creative team to achieve our vision. Why did you choose CFW rather than the fashion week in your home country of Norway? At Holzweiler we are always eager to try new things, we are still young and free. We need to constantly evolve. Copenhagen is the most established fashion week in Scandinavia and we wish to see our brand in this environment. What do you hope to achieve with your show at CFW? First of all, we hope that we can create something that gives the crowd a proper impression of who we are. We just want people to have fun and really enjoy something fresh. In general, we need to get more brand awareness. That is something you can’t buy or sell, you need to get it under your skin, and for that, you need to think long term. How does CFW distinguish itself from other European fashion weeks? I think CFW used to live on a young and fresh vibe with a lot of inspiration and a generally happy vibe. As the years have passed and business has changed, CFW has grown more into a fashion week with a higher level of expectations. It needs to keep evolving in an international direction.
What role do the trade fairs play in the buying process? I think Denmark as a fashion nation should be really proud of these trade fairs, which — in my opinion — can be compared to some of the best in the world. There’s a unique ambiance there, almost like a daytime discotheque where people mingle and
have fun. The Danish trade fairs are great at mixing fashion with other categories, and showcasing what’s trending, and as a buyer this is very inspiring and gives a quick overview. The most important for me when I visit is to have a relationship and dialogue with the people behind every brand. By doing so, the stories and thoughts of each collection come alive. What are you looking the most forward to exploring this season at the trade fairs? I’m very excited to experience the collections, show locations, and street style, but mostly I’m looking forward to seeing what all of our young talents have come up with. I’m especially thrilled to participate in the announcement of the five design nominations at the Magasin du Nord Fashion Prize at Charlottenborg. This fall, these five talents will compete in the biggest fashion competition in Denmark, which the Magasin du Nord Foundation and Magasin have founded.

CFW Daily: How did it all start? Reza Etamadi: I began Muf10’s journey in 2014 by creating custom-made pieces for friends to fit in to the Copenhagen nightlife. Charlotte and I met at a private party, and she wanted to support Muf10’s journey by introducing the brand to her contacts in nightlife and the fashion industry. Q: What does your designer/muse relationship look like? Etamadi: I love Charlotte’s way of thinking and how she never judges people. She’s like a champion who adapts to make everybody feel great in her company. Charlotte’s personality and our friendship serve as inspiration for a lot of Muf10 pieces: I’m always thinking about new ideas, and we spend hours discussing these, talking about pictures and life. Also, before the final making of a piece, I always discuss it with her. Q: What does Charlotte bring to Muf10? Etamadi: Charlotte brings a real and fun lifestyle that is a perfect match for the Muf10 vision. Q: Why Charlotte? Is there a piece that defines her? Etamadi: The oversize bomber jacket with the saying ‘Familie F/R Para’ on the back is a saying from a Sivas song that both Charlotte and I live our lives by. It is a strong fashion piece, which stands out in a crowd — just like us. Q for Charlotte: How does being known as Muf10’s muse affect your work as an international stylist? Charlotte Sandgren: This year, I worked in Los Angeles as a stylist for the American brand ‘Good Americans’, which is owned by Khloe Kardashian. I was spotted by the ‘Good American’ brand director Jamie Girdler because I was wearing a full Muf10 velour outfit. Q: What Muf10 piece will Charlotte wear during CFW? Etamadi: A canvas coverall that a famous artist has painted on and made personally for her.

Curious about what the fashion crowd eats? Well, let’s just say it includes a whole lot of thoughts and ambitions. And canapés – always canapés. CHOOSING a caterer for the CFW Opening Reception was no easy task. For how does one feed the discerning eaters of the fashion world? The Danish fashion industry is the first in the world to conduct systematic health checks on models, an important step in tackling eating disorders in the industry. Thanks to a privately funded pilot project, as of 2017, all 16-year old models from the eight leading model agencies have attended health checks ahead of this year’s fashion week. There is a particular focus on diagnosing possible eating disorders during the checks. According to Anne Minor Christensen, Chairman of Landsforeningen mod spiseforstyrrelser og selvskade (a national association fighting eating disorders and promoting healthy body-images), the vast majority of the checked models have a completely normal relationship to appearance and health. The fashion industry’s ethical charter calls for voluntary donations to maintain the health checks of the models in the future. Contributions also help fund therapy and group discussions. SARTORIAL LAUNCH PAD Three emerging Danish brands make their Copenhagen Fashion Week runway debuts today. That spells a great dose of nerves, expectations, and hard-fought resilience under the the ceiling of Papirhallen, which houses the new CFW Talent Scene, a veritable launch pad for new designers aiming for early visibility via runway shows.

HELIOT/EMIL, MAI SVANHVIT, AND CORALI are the names of the three brands sending off their first CFW runway collections today. Brothers Julius and Victor Juul, Maiken Bille and Svanhvit Sigurdardottir, and Caroline Sillesen are the designers behind the new brands, respectively.
“It has always been a high priority to create platforms for the emerging talents of the Danish fashion industry. Through the new Talent Scene, three hand-picked labels will show what they can do for an audience of international and national press, buyers, and end-consumers. Hopefully, this will play a role in launching their careers”, says CEO of Copenhagen Fashion Week Camilla Frank on the initiative, which takes place on Talent Scene in Papirhallen at 6 PM this evening. MAI SVANHVIT has taken its first steps as a label through a couple of seasons, testing the waters at trade fairs and through events. As a new brand, Mai Svanhvit has grappled with the importance of trying different communication platforms to maximise visibility. “It is a great opportunity for creating new contacts who can strengthen sales channels. Vi have been showing at CIFF, but as a new brand it
CFW DAILY
is difficult to really get through to the buyers, as most attention is focussed on the big, established brands. That’s why we aren’t pouring all our efforts into a fair just yet. We have to think differently. Runway shows are an obvious way to make a mark. Besides this, we are hosting a popup store all week long”, say Maiken Bille and Svanhvit Sigurdardottir on the opportunity that they couldn’t resist.
“Several Coral pieces are created in a way that makes them move when the wearer does. Hence it is a really great opportunity to be able to show the jewellery live. In photos, they are graphic and strong, but to show how they are alive, dancing, you need movement.” For Sillesen, Talent Scene is also a place for experimentation and making mistakes — and actually less anxiety-inducing than creating a show from scratch herself.
Last season, monsieurs Julius and Victor showed in Milan and Paris, and they want to continue the momentum. That’s why they are putting in every effort and showing the new collection across the world: In Milan, Paris, New York, Tokyo, Los Angeles, and now also Copenhagen.
“Here, you have people to help you who have done this many times before. And now we are finally ready, so why not?”, she says. All newcomers to the schedule have put in copious amounts of blood, sweat, and time in the shows that are on tonight’s agenda, and expectations are noticeable, as are the nerves that come along with them.
“We hope that by showing during Copenhagen Fashion Week we will be established as a brand from Copenhagen — also in the minds of international audiences. The world of Danish fashion and Copenhagen Fashion Week have developed in incredible ways in recent years, and we would very much like to take part in it”, say the Juul brothers.
“It’s the first time we are putting on our own show, and our expectations are sky-high. We want to deliver and to give the strongest impression of our brand, and with high ambitions you can only expect some surprises and challenges to arise along the way — it’s pretty much unavoidable”, says Svanhvit Sigurdardottir of Mai Svanhvit. Pace and timing are decisive for the setup of
EXPERIMENTS AND HIGH EXPECTATIONS Caroline Sillesen stands out from the other designers, as her brand Corali purveys jewellery and not clothing. Her show has something unique to offer, according to the designer.

Coralis’s show: When putting jewellery on the runway, there are some additional factors to consider. “Normally, fashion models will walk very fast down the runway, but since jewellery is only a fraction the size of the whole figure, I am concerned that they wouldn’t come through well enough. The whole Coralis concept is built on a structure that allows each element to take its time. The show can only be successful if slowed down a bit, so that the audience has time to really get a sense of what they are looking at”, says Caroline Sillesen. Apart from nerves, what’s on trial is the designers’ patience — and ability to cope with the impossibility of perfection. “There is a surprisingly high number of things to consider, and it can be difficult accept anything short of the perfect. We are a small team, and do not have the time or resources to make it quite as flawless as we’d like. But Copenhagen Fashion Week has been extremely helpful and taken care of a huge part of the setup; this saves us energy to take care of the things that are most important to our vision”, says Victor Juul on the evening’s undertaking. FASHION WEEK’S RIPPLE EFFECTS
The value of Copenhagen Fashion Week extends far beyond the industry itself, carrying great significance for Copenhagen’s economy, tourism, and culture. So say a broad range of voices from businesses, restaurants, and political life. WORDS: MARLENE TOLBOD JAKOBSEN TRANSLATION: MAGNUS JOREM
When Copenhagen Fashion Week fires off today, it’s not just the fashion creators, stakeholders, and industry insiders who should take note. The biannual week also has great significance for Copenhagen as a city, a fact agreed upon broadly, not least by the city’s restaurants, hotels, and stores, which all report great benefits accruing to the press and guests that Copenhagen Fashion Week again and again manages to attract.
PURCHASING POWER One of these is the iconic Hotel D’Angleterre. For years it has taken part in fashion week, housing countless shows through the seasons: “Copenhagen Fashion Week is part of cementing Copenhagen as an epicentre of design and fashion — not just in Scandinavia and Europe, but globally”, says PR & Communications Manager Signe Thorup. The sentiment is shared at another stylish Copenhagen hotel, Skt. Petri. Through numerous seasons, it, too, has played an active part in the events of Copenhagen Fashion Week: “At Skt. Petri, we experience a great value for Copenhagen coming through the professional efforts of CFW. The international profiles invited by CFW to Copenhagen who stay at Skt. Petri bring lots of positive attention to Danish fashion, our hotel, and Copenhagen as a destination”, says Stine Ruben Karpantschof, who is in charge of communication. Adds acclaimed chef Frederik Bille Brahe from Apollo Bar & Kantine: “Fashion week plays an essential role for Copenhagen, both in terms of creativity and business. It is part of drawing global attention and curiosity to our little city and make sure that people visit from near and afar. That’s something we should all be proud of and grateful for.” Yet it is not just the food and accommodation industries that benefit from these international visitors. Those who run the Danish capital’s fashion boutiques also see an uptick in sales at the biannual events. Among them is Mads Nørgaard, who for many years has witnessed the effect Copenhagen Fashion Week has on the city at large. “If we want to have a unique, dynamic, and cultural city, one that really stands out in Northern Europe, it is essential to have a well-functioning fashion week. Copenhagen Fashion Week is a powerhouse that draws a public with strong purchasing power, both from the Nordic Region and from further afield, and it simply has a priceless value for Copenhagen”, says the experienced designer and store manager.
CULTURALLY ABUZZ Besides boosting the local economy, Copenhagen Fashion Week also has a positive effect on the city’s cultural life. So says Anna Mee Allerslev, Mayor of Employment and Integration in the Municipality of Copenhagen. “CFW contributes to tourism, employment, and cultural renewal. At the same time, Copenhagen leaves a fashionable imprint visible from abroad. CFW is the biggest fashion week in Northern Europe, naturally attracting professionals and interested laypersons who set the city abuzz. It is one of the events that truly mark Copenhagen as an exciting and rapidly developing city”, says Anna Mee Allerslev, who thinks that capitals like Copenhagen need a buzzing cultural scene to truly count as world-class cities — something fashion week contributes to in important ways. Copenhagen’s Mayor of Culture and Leisure, Carl Christian Ebbesen, agrees. In his view, it is important that the Municipality of Copenhagen actively supports initiatives like fashion week. “As Mayor of Culture and Leisure, I greatly appreciate that Copenhagen shows itself as the strong fashion destination that it is. Denmark is in the lead internationally when it comes to fashion and design, and the overall industry is crucial for Danish exports. That’s why I think the municipality should support such cultural institutions financially, with the aim of making Danish fashion and design even more visible, both for local residents and for the rest of the world”, says Ebbesen. Unsurprisingly, the organisers of Copenhagen Fashion Week also see potential in their contribution to the brand of the city. According to CEO Camilla Frank, there is increasing focus on incorporating urban spaces, and opening up to the public, as an essential ingredient in the overall experience of fashion week. “For almost 20 seaons, we have continuously expanded the public part of the the programme, inviting ordinary city residents and tourists to take part in fashion week. We hear from international press members and buyers that they don’t get the same sense of the city, or the interaction with locals, when they go to other fashion weeks. That is something that makes Copenhagen stand out, and something that means a lot to our international visitors who want to get a taste of the milieu that has formed Nordic design”, says Camilla Frank, who looks forward to experiencing another fashion week unfold in the streets of Copenhagen this week.

THE IMPORTANCE OF COPENHAGEN FASHION WEEK Copenhagen Fashion Week is not just a series of runway shows and trade fairs. founder and creative director at Grenaa Creative The classic fashion show has been undergoing important developments. It has become relevant again as it is no longer a show for the photographers, but a marketing opportunity to show and sell material through a larger group of fashion influencers, celebrities, and the press – even though it lasts for only eight minutes. Copenhagen Fashion Week offers range in brands’ sizes and reach — from newborn labels to established, well-known ones. We use the city to host shows in beautiful buildings, which is something else than sitting in some warm tent somewhere. Copenhagen Fashion Week is unique.

It is a window through which Danish designers can show their work and be judged at their level. In my opinion, CFW has become more exciting over the years, thanks to the designers who have graduated from international design schools and returned home to show their more daring designs, raising the creative level of Danish fashion. CFW is important for the branding of Danish and Scandinavian fashion abroad.”
CECILIE INGDAL,
Editor in Chief of ELLE “Danish fashion would not have been where it is today without the huge effort, the unique engagement and great work done by Copenhagen Fashion Week over the last 10 years. Sustainability and fashion merge with Scandinavian cool, a combination that has become a Danish signature, working well both on the runway and on a bicycle. CFW is a small and intimate fashion week compared to others in Europe. You will meet designers, the press, and foreign buyers at different events, dinners and maybe for cocktails in the wake of fashion week, which is something else than meeting them on the show row.”
CECILIE BAHNSEN,
fashion designer
“Copenhagen Fashion Week has given my brand a huge amount of great reviews and feedback. Denmark is famous for interiors and architecture, and today also for our Scandinavian fashion designs. CFW has given me the opportunity to change from being a stand at a fair to now being part of the shows. We have received a lot of support and interest from people outside and inside the industry.”
CFW DAILY
THOMAS KLAUSEN,
MARGRETHE VESTAGER,
CEO at Dansk Mode & Tekstil
European Commissioner for Competition
“Copenhagen Fashion Week puts Denmark and Scandinavian Fashion on the world map. Without it, Copenhagen would lose its momentum. It is important that foreign buyers and press feel comfortable while visiting us, that they don’t want to miss CFW, which is unique due to the particular coolness of Scandinavia: You can easily get around, the Nordic food culture is famous, and the fashion is great. In the future, I hope to see more Scandinavian brands make Copenhagen Fashion Week even greater and more relevant.”
“Copenhagen Fashion Week can — at its best — be a show window, a meeting place, and a platform for development. The fashion industry in Europe is growing — but actually not as much as other industries. There is an opportunity to develop the industry both in production and in the retail chain. The fashion industry is far behind in terms of sustainability compared with other industries. And presumably, global demand for fashion will only grow and grow in the coming decades. That’s why it’s important to get control of materials, production, marketing, and the opportunity for a sharing economy and recycling. European brands account for 70 percent of the global high-end market and it makes Europe a global leader. CFW can help boost Scandinavia by providing the Scandinavian brands a stronger platform.”

MEET YOUR DAILY FASHION PERSONA:
Photographer Adam Katz Sinding
“DANISH FASHION IS BECOMING MORE GLOBAL”
WORDS: RIKKE AGNETE DAM, PHOTO: JOE HARPER & VALI BARBULESCU American photographer Adam Katz Sinding counts among his clients such international names as W Magazine, Tom Ford, and Net-a-Porter. But instead of living in New York or Paris, the 34-year-old, who is also behind the website Le 21ème, has chosen to reside in Copenhagen. The city has stolen his heart due to its relaxed lifestyle and fashion-forward yet sporty and practical street fashion and designers. CFW DAILY: How would you describe your role on the Danish fashion scene? Adam Katz Sinding: Coming to Copenhagen has completely changed the way that I dress and view fashion. I hope that I take this abroad when I travel and that I through my photos make Danish fashion even more noticed. I came to Copenhagen for the first time in 2010 and was blown away by how well dressed people were. In Seattle, where I was born, everybody wears Gore-Tex and sporty stuff, but in a really sloppy way, while Danish guys dress sporty, but so well put together and clean. The way the girls were dressing here back then is how people in the rest of Europe are dressing now. Danish girls were wearing sneakers no matter what else they were wearing. Now I find it sexy, but at the time I was
CFW DAILY
Q: What is the worst thing about Danish fashion right now? A: The best thing about Danish fashion is potentially also the worst: The fact that it doesn’t change that much. Silhouettes don’t change very rapidly and you’ll often see similar garments coming from a brand for a few seasons with only minimal changes in print or colour. It is ok to know what the brand stands for and it might stop us from consuming as much, which is positive. But the risk is that we get bored with the brands. That said you can easily make a T-shirt and a pair of jeans interesting by accessorizing with an earring from Sophie Bille Brahe, and this is very well executed in Danish fashion.
thinking: “Why are these girls ruining these amazing outfits with these ugly shoes?” But this way of using sneakers has caught on elsewhere in the last few years. Q: What has been the most remarkable change on the Danish fashion scene since you entered it? A: More than anything, the way Danish fashion has been disseminated abroad. When I started coming to Copenhagen I knew of many Swedish bloggers, but zero Danish. But since then, Denmark and all the Danish bloggers, influencers and editors have come to the forefront, and Danish fashion is becoming more global as a result. You see people wearing Ganni abroad, even in Japan, and a brand like Tonsure builds a bridge between Danish and international fashion, with its great attention to detail.
Q: Which Danish designers do you turn to when you are shopping? A: I like Wood Wood, Soulland, and Halo, which reinterprets Danish military garments in these amazing colours and new fabrics.
Q: What is most positive about Danish fashion right now? A: Sometimes when I go to a small fashion week I’ll see shows which are quite poorly executed, but in Copenhagen everything is checked and perfected. I shoot backstage with Danish brands like Barbara I Gongini, Baum und Pferdgarten, Ganni, Han Kjøbenhavn, and Henrik Vibskov, and I am impressed by how such a small fashion week is so well done.
Q: What is your first personal experience with Danish fashion? A: I remember seeing the last Wood Wood show held in KBH called Post-Europe, which was filled with track suits and bucket hats that made Wood
16
Wood the first Danish brand I was really obsessed with. Q: When you look into your wardrobe, which piece of Danish design is your favourite? A: My black Wood Wood x Reebok zipper tracksuit jacket from 2015. I thought it was the coolest collab I had ever seen, and I still place it my closet so it is the first thing I see when I open it. Q: Looking five years into the crystal ball, what is your dream for Danish Fashion? A: I would like to see the fashion week flourish. Small fashion weeks are suffering and can easily be a waste of time for buyers and editors, but I tell every single person who travels for fashion weeks that they should come to Copenhagen, because it is really worth it. Apart from the shows, the parties are the best, and I really don’t understand how people get any work done. But they obviously do.

At Copenhagen Fashion Week, we contiuously work at integrating the city at large and its inhabitants into the fashion events. As the Nordic Region’s biggest fashion week, we have set ourselves the goal this season of exploring whether one can point to a particular Scandinavian design DNA. To accomplish this, we have collaborated with Zalando to create an open universe in Papirhallen today, from 15:00-21:00. It features an exhibition and talks that go behind the scenes of Nordic design, in dialogue with a range of fashion’s voices — designers, editors, and others with a unique take. At Zalando Studios x CFW, you also get to experience a piece of the official show schedule’s front row with Tuesday’s talent show. Read more and find tickets at billeto.dk
