Welcome to the April 2022 edition of Costa Link Magazine, we are celebrating our 15th Anniversary! We can’t quite believe it… Well my rain-dance worked we have been looking out on very gloomy skies for the past few weeks and are now going into the first realms of the chaotic Easter & holiday frenzy that invades us every year here on the Costa del Sol!
Ed’s Note...
There are a lot of days to remember this month, firstly watch out for the practical jokers on the 1st! Then it’s Easter, Maundy Thursday on the 14th, Good Friday on the 15th & Easter Day on the 17th expect celebrations up and down the Costa del Sol for Semana Santa. For the more patriotic English people it’s St George’s Day on the 23rd. So whatever you decide to get involved in or celebrate I am sure it’s going to be a good one… Happy Easter from all of us at the Costa Link Magazine! xxx

A Woman’s World WHAT IS THE GENDER OF A Computer?
Ships are addressed as 'she' and 'her'. I often wondered what gender computers were. To answer that question, we set up two groups of computer experts. The first was comprised of women, and the second of men. Each group was asked to recommend whether computers should be referred to in the feminine gender, or the masculine gender. They were asked to give four reasons for their recommendation.... The group of women reported that the computers should be referred to in the masculine gender because:
The men, on the other hand, concluded that Computers should be referred to in the feminine gender because:
1) In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
1) No one but the Creator understands their internal logic.
2) They have a lot of data, but are still clueless.
2) The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else.
3) They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they are the problem. 4) As soon as you commit to one, you realise that, if you had waited a little longer you could have had a better model.
3) Even your smallest mistakes are stored in long-term memory for later retrieval. 4) As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending loads of money on accessories for it.

PRINCE WILLIAM'S 40TH: PRINCE HARRY BANNED... They used to be so close and have been so many life experiances together. After two years of bitter arguments and upset insiders had hoped that time would heal their wounds. Harry’s recent actions including the decision to snub his late grandfather Prince Philip’s memorial service last month has apparently shocked and appalled William. His 40th birthday celebrations have caused more distress. According to insiders, William has decided that, rather than wait for Harry and wife Meghan Markle to decline, he’s simply not going to invite them. “His apparent insensitivity makes him persona non grata at the moment and it will take some miracle for that to change,” says a source close to Prince William.

BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT 2022: THE SHOW RETURNS FOR NEW SERIES... The latest series of BGT will have Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden all returning as Britain's Got Talent judges for the 15th series. ITV has yet to officially confirm the exact BGT 2022 start date but based on past years we can probably expect it to begin in the middle of April. As ever it'll be the public who ultimately decide the winner in a series of live shows later in the year. COLEEN ROONEY: IS READY TO GIVE UP... They’ve been at loggerheads ever since Coleen Rooney accused “Rebekah Vardy’s account” of leaking stories. But could the battle of the WAGs be about to come to an end? Lawyers’ fees on both sides are huge, with a trial set to take place in May. Both women are adamant they are right, but we’re told Coleen is thinking of ways that she can settle without losing face... Watch this space!

BELLA HADID: I WISH I HAD KEPT MY OLD NOSE... We all made question-
able choices as teenagers, but not all of them were quite as permanent as Bella Hadid’s. Last week, the supermodel spoke out about her decision to have a nose job at the age of 14, saying she now regrets that choice. “I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors,” the 25 year old said in an interview with Vogue, adding, “I think I would have grown into it.” She then went on to say she’d had “insecurities, anxiety, depression, body image issues and eating issues”.
LUANN DE LESSEPS: DRUNKEN INCIDENT... The Real Housewives Of New
York star, 56, was kicked out of gay piano bar Townhouse last month following what she has since described as a “regrettable incident”, and later shared an apology on social media. Sources claimed she was 'monopolising' the piano and 'drunkenly' singing before being asked to leave the East 56th Street venue after the crowd apparently tired of her antics and started booing. Luann seems to have fallen off the piano not the wagon!

What’s lurking in your fridge? THE SINGLE MANS GUIDE TO STORING FOOD.... Have you ever opened the fridge and found a number of items that you can’t quite determine what they started as? Has the milk or an opened can of beans deteriorated to the point in which it is not edible to humans, here are a few quick checks you can carry out to see if you can still eat it! THE GAG TEST: Anything that makes you gag on inspection is off and should not be eaten. EGGS: When something starts pecking its way out of the shell, the egg is probably past its prime. DAIRY PRODUCTS: Milk is off when it starts to look like yoghurt. Yoghurt is off when it starts to look like cottage cheese. Cottage cheese is off when it starts to look like regular cheese. Regular cheese is nothing but gone off milk anyway and can't get any more off than it is already. Cheddar cheese is off when you think it is blue cheese but you realise you've never purchased blue cheese in the first place. FROZEN FOODS: Frozen foods that have become glued to your freezer compartment will probably be spoiled (or will be) by the time you pry them out with a kitchen knife. EXPIRATION DATES: This is NOT a marketing ploy to encourage you to throw away perfectly good food so that you'll spend more on groceries. MEAT: If opening the refrigerator door causes stray animals from a three-block radius to congregate outside your house, the meat went off a while ago.

What’s lurking in your fridge? CONTINUED! BREAD: Sesame seeds and Poppy seeds are the only officially acceptable "spots" that should be seen on the surface of any loaf of bread. Fuzzy and hairy-looking white or green growth areas are a good indication that your bread has turned into a pharmaceutical laboratory experiment. FLOUR: Flour is off when it wiggles. SALT: Never goes off. CANNED GOODS: Any canned goods that have become the size or shape of a tennis ball should be disposed of. Carefully. RAISINS, SULTANAS & DRIED FRUIT: Raisins sultanas and dried fruit should not be harder than your teeth. POTATOES: Fresh potatoes do not have roots, branches, or any other leafy undergrowth. DIP’S: If you can take it out of its container and bounce it on the floor, it has gone bad. UNMARKED CONTAINERS: You know it is well beyond prime when you're tempted to discard the Tupperware along with the food. Generally speaking, Tupperware containers should not burp or bubble over when you open them.

A Man’s World
It’s A FUNNY OLD WORLD...
A HIGH PRICE TO PAY....A man and his ever-nagging wife went on holiday to Jerusalem. While they were there, the wife passed away. The undertaker told the husband, “you can have her buried here in the Holy Land for €1500 or we can have her shipped back home for €50000.” The husband thought about it and told the undertaker he would have her shipped back home. The undertaker asked him, “why would you spend €50000 to have her shipped home when you could have a beautiful burial here, and it would only cost €1500?” The husband replied, “Long ago, a man (JESUS) died here, was buried here, and three days later, rose from the dead. I just can’t take that chance!”
Dave takes the wife Jenny to a disco. Dave & Jen at the Disco... There's a guy on the dance floor doing it all... Break dancing, moon-walking, back flips, the works. The Jenny turns to Dave and says:"See that guy? 25 years ago he proposed to me and I turned him down." Dave says: "Looks like he's still celebrating!!!"
WHAT A WOMAN SAYS...
34
WHAT A MAN HEARS...
“This place is a mess!
‘Blah, blah, blah, blah, COME ON,
Come on, you and I need to clean.
Blah, blah, blah, blah, YOU AND I
Your stuff is on the floor
Blah, blah, blah, blah, ON THE FLOOR
And you’ll have no clothes to wear
Blah, blah, blah, blah, NO CLOTHES
If we don’t do the laundry right now.”
Blah, blah, blah, blah, RIGHT NOW.’

Off-plan or key-ready, which is the right choice for your holiday home purchase? Main Picture: Sun Valley Apartments, La Cala Resort
Sun Valley Apartments, La Cala Resort - Pool
Is it better to buy a second home off-plan or opt for a property that’s ready for you to move into? Both have their merits, so we asked Marc Pritchard, Sales and Marketing Director at leading Spanish home builder Taylor Wimpey España, to walks us through the benefits of each approach....
Buying a key-ready holiday home The most obvious advantage of buying a key-ready holiday home is that you can start using the property straight away. However, the benefits extend beyond simply being able to enjoy an immediate holiday. With a key-ready home, you have the option to view the actual property before you buy, rather than a show home. Some buyers prefer this, as they can see precisely what they are purchasing. It also provides a chance to inspect the quality of the property – and of the site around it, from the landscaping to amenities such as swimming pools. Buying a key-ready home also means no worries about construction issues, as the property is already built and ready to occupy. Occasionally, it’s also possible to get a good deal on a furniture pack when you buy a key-ready home. This is often a possibility if a developer has a single property left for sale on a site, so it’s always worth asking about furnishings. Key-ready Property Spotlight: La Recoleta III is a development of key-ready apartments at the stunning Punta Prima beach in Torrevieja. The two- and three-bedroom homes provide spacious interiors with private terraces and views over the sea, pool and gardens. Opt for a penthouse with a solarium to make the most of the outdoor lifestyle. Prices start from €184,00 plus VAT.
Buying a key-ready holiday home If you’ve got some time to spare, buying a holiday home off-plan can have a number of advantages. The value of land and the cost of construction in Spain are both rising, meaning that properties are becoming more expensive. Buying one off-plan at today’s prices can therefore deliver a substantial saving compared to waiting until the same property is built and buying it then. Buying off-plan may also mean there’s potential for you to have some say in the layout and/or features, if you buy at an early enough stage in the development process. Getting in ahead of the masses also means that you can have your pick of properties – ground floor, penthouse, corner apartment and so on. For multi-phase developments where earlier phases have proven particularly popular, buying off-plan could even mean not missing out altogether – some developments sell out before construction is complete, meaning that those waiting to buy once the homes are finished can miss out. Off-plan Property Spotlight: Sun Valley at La Cala Golf Resort in Mijas, Malaga, is ideal for families looking for high-quality, affordable apartments in the Costa del Sol, with the third phase of the development now for sale. All homes have large terraces with impressive views out over the fairways, while Sun Valley also features a communal pool and prettily landscaped gardens. Prices start from €255,000 plus VAT.

Personal Tax Returns – Information for New Residents If you recently moved to Spain you may have some ques琀ons about tax, in this ar琀cle we cover off the basics. The tax year in Spain runs from January 1st un琀l 31st December and personal tax returns are done in May / June the following year. The deadline to complete your tax return is 30th June. Income from employment or pensions, has to be included in your tax return, as does any interest from savings or gains made from investments or sale of other assets such as property. Different types of income have their own tax rates, e.g. general income tax starts at 19% and goes up in brackets, reaching 45% when you get €60,000, whereas interest and capital gains tax goes up to a maximum of 24%. Annui琀es and some types of rental income also have their own special and more favourable tax treatment. The basic tax allowance is €5,550 and you get extra for having dependent children. The allowance also increases when you reach pension age, and you get an extra allowance for pension income. Mention Costa Link and get a

I Moved to Spain Last Year, Will I Need To Do a Tax Return This Year? The first check to determine whether you are tax resident or not is the 183 day rule i.e. if you spend 183 days or more in Spain then you are deemed to be tax resident. There is however also the habitual residence test which can override the 183 day rule. Generally speaking, someone who moved to Spain last year, will in many cases be deemed to be tax resident in Spain for 2021 and therefore need to do a tax return this year if they have income or other. Tax in Spain, is certainly not as straight forward as in the UK and can vary a lot from one person to the next depending on factors such as the type of income. If you have recently moved to Spain and have ques琀ons about tax please feel free to get in touch. 10 SIMPLE WAYS Health TO STAY HEALTHY Well Being
AFTER THE LAST FEW YEARS MOST OF US HAD, IT’S SAFE TO SAY THAT THESE DAYS, STAYING HEALTHY LOOKS A BIT DIFFERENT THAN IT USED TO... NOT JUST BECAUSE THE STATE OF BEING HEALTHY HAS ACTUALLY CHANGED, BUT BECAUSE THE PERCEPTION OF WHAT HEALTH IS HAS EXPANDED. MANY OF US HAVE COME TO REALISE THAT BEING HEALTHY IS ABOUT THE PHYSICAL, THE MENTAL, AND EMOTIONAL, AND HAVE ACCEPTED THAT WE NEED TO MANAGE OUR BODIES, MINDS, AND EMOTIONS IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE TRUE HOLISTIC WELLNESS. THESE TIPS CAN BE IMPLEMENTED TODAY AND CAN HELP PROTECT YOUR BODY FROM ILLNESS AND YOUR MIND FROM STRESS AND UNREST.
CONTINUED FROM LAST MONTH... TAKE BREAKS FROM THE NEWS: Yes, it’s important to stay informed, but watching, listening
to and reading the news these days is definitely an emotional experience. Being informed doesn’t mean we have to allow ourselves to be constantly inundated with doom and gloom. Perhaps, plan to check in with the news just once or twice a day or allow yourself to consume the news in small 10-15 minute increments instead of sitting in front of it for hours or letting it be your background noise.
SET A SLEEP SCHEDULE: Sleep should also be a priority and can have a major impact on both
physical and mental health. Try deciding on a reasonable bedtime and wake-up time for yourself and stick to it as often as possible. Put away the work, turn off the television, put your phone in another room and go to sleep. It may take some time to get used to the routine, but before you know it, you’re sure to feel more rested. Sleep also plays an important role in your physical health. For example, sleep is involved in healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Ongoing sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and stroke.
DO SOME STRENGTH TRAINING: Even light strength training like some forms of yoga and Pilates can result in some major physical benefits. When you work to strengthen your muscles, those muscles will be better able to protect you from injury from slips and falls, will improve your balance and can help strengthen your bones. Plus, it of course helps with weight management and can even improve your energy level. STAY OUT OF THE SUN: Stay out of the sun, especially between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when the sun's harmful rays are strongest. You are not protected if it is cloudy or if you are in the water harmful rays pass through both. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen that guards against both UVA and UVB rays, with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 15 or higher. Select sunglasses that block 99 to 100 percent of the sun's rays. WHAT IS COLOUR BLINDNESS?
If you have colour blindness, it means you see colours differently than most people. Most of the time, colour blindness makes it hard to tell the difference between certain colours. Usually, colour blindness runs in families. There’s no cure, but special glasses and contact lenses can help. Most people who are colour blind are able to adjust and don’t have problems with everyday activities.
What are the symptoms of colour blindness?
The main symptom of colour blindness is not seeing colours the way most people do. If you’re colour blind, you may have trouble seeing: • The difference between colours • How bright colours are • Different shades of colours Symptoms of colour blindness are often so mild that you may not notice them. And since we get used to the way we see colours, many people with colour blindness don’t know they have it. People with very serious cases of colour blindness might have other symptoms, too like quick side-to-side eye movements (nystagmus) or sensitivity to light.
What are the types of colour blindness?
The most common type of colour blindness makes it hard to tell the difference between red and green. Another type makes it hard to tell the difference between blue and yellow. People who are completely colour blind don’t see colour at all, but that’s not very common. AM I AT RISK FOR COLOUR BLINDNESS? Men have a much higher risk than women for colour blindness. You’re also more likely to have colour blindness if you: • Have a family history of colour blindness • Have certain eye diseases, like glaucoma or age-related macular degeneration (AMD) • Have certain health problems, like diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, or multiple sclerosis (MS) • Take certain medicines • Are white.... If you think you may have colour blindness, talk with your doctor about getting checked. WHAT CAUSES COLOUR BLINDNESS? The most common kinds of colour blindness are genetic, meaning they’re passed down from parents. Colour blindness can also happen because of damage to your eye or your brain. And colour vision may get worse as you get older often because of cataracts (cloudy areas in the lens of the eye). HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF I HAVE COLOUR BLINDNESS? Your eye doctor can usually use a simple test to tell you if you’re colour blind. During the test, your eye doctor will show you a circle made of many different coloured dots. The circle has a shape inside it that’s made out of dots (like the picture above) like a number, a letter, or a squiggly line. This shape is easy to see if you don’t have colour blindness, but people who are colour blind have a hard time seeing it.
WHAT'S THE TREATMENT ?
There’s no cure for colour blindness that’s passed down in families, but most people find ways to adjust to it. Children with colour blindness may need help with some classroom activities, and adults with colour blindness may not be able to do certain jobs, like being a pilot or graphic designer. Keep in mind that most of the time, colour blindness doesn’t cause serious problems. If your colour blindness is happening because of another health problem, your doctor will treat the condition that’s causing the problem. If you’re taking a medicine that causes colour blindness, your doctor may adjust how much you take or suggest you switch to a different medicine. If colour blindness is causing problems with everyday tasks, there are devices and technology that can help, including:
Glasses and contacts. Special contact lenses and glasses may help people who are colour blind tell the difference between colours. Visual aids. You can use visual aids, apps, and other technology to help you live with colour blindness. For example, you can use an app to take a photo with your phone or tablet and then tap on part of the photo to find out the colour of that area. Talk over your options with your eye doctor. Remember these tips: • Ask your doctor about visual aids and technology that can help you with everyday tasks • Encourage family members to get checked for colour blindness, since it can run in families

MEDICAL MAYHEM
A CRUEL TWIST: A middle aged man was visibly shaken when his Doctor advised that he had only 6 month's to live because of the terminal disease that was detected during a recent physical check-up. The Doctor suggested that he should get his 'house in order' , make sure his Will was current and ensure all final arrangements were in place for the funeral. He should then make plans to enjoy what might be left of his life, to the fullest. 'What will you do for the last six months?' asked the Doctor. His patient thought for a few minutes then replied, 'I think I'll go and live with my Mother-in-law'. Surprised by the answer, the Doctor asked, 'Of all people, why in the would you want to live with your Motherin-law?' 'Because it'll be the longest six months of my Life!' ANOTHER CRUEL TWIST: She asked: 'God, how much time do I have to live?' He said, 'you have 35 years left.' So that whole year she had a ton of cosmetic surgery, she had a face lift, a tummy tuck, her nose reshaped, liposuction, she completely did herself over. She figured as long as she was going to live another 35 years she was going to look young again. After all this was done, that same year she was hit by a car and was killed instantly. When she entered St. Peter's gate she walked over to God and said, 'What happened? I thought you said I had another 35 years!' God replied, 'Oh Good grief!!! I DIDN'T RECOGNISE YOU!'

Strange Strangebuttrue...
FANTASTICAL FACTS ABOUT ALBERT EINSTEIN Albert Einstein was born in Ulm, in the German Empire’s Kingdom of Württemberg, in March 1879. From humble beginnings and a struggle to find work, he began documenting others’ brilliance at the Swiss Patent Office. From there, he would go on to become one of the most famous scientists and acclaimed geniuses in human history.... THE FBI WATCHED HIM SO CLOSELY THAT THEIR REPORT IS OVER 1,400 PAGES LONG! Though Einstein’s scientific brilliance would surely have been a tremendous asset for any government, J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI was incredibly wary of him. Believed to be a communist or a radical, as well as dedicated to speaking out against social injustice, he was deemed dangerous by the FBI, who kept tabs on Einstein.
history, one question everyone wants the answer to is how does the brain of a genius differ from everybody else’s? The great scientist’s brain was stolen by one Thomas Harvey, who kept it in a laboratory in Philadelphia for a time. After this, it found a home in Princeton Hospital. Some inconclusive tests were performed on it, and it’s still in Philadelphia today, in the Mutter Museum.
EINSTEIN HAD A STRONG AVERSION TO SOCKS... As wise, respected, and brilliant as Einstein was, his creative side came hand in hand with a certain eccentricity. His trademark wild hair is familiar to everyone, but few know of his utter contempt for socks! As a child, Einstein suffered the entirely relatable discomfort of his socks developing holes and his toes poking through them. Capricorn, the Full Moon of April 16th, and the solar eclipse of April 30th have a major impact on your relationships.Married Capricornians or those involved in longer-lasting connections, could experience a term of turmoil. It becomes increasingly clear that things need to change. If you are looking for love you’re more careful about what’s going on around them, and what helps you meet new people. Be careful what you do with your money this month. If until now you counted on some material help, the person might have issues or not be able to help you anymore however much they might want to. In April 2022 you could use more focus on the spiritual side of life and exploring your feelings. That way, you can succeed more easily to regain your balance and reconnect to what truly brings joy into your life. Aquarius, it’s time to approach things differently regarding your love life. The New Moon of April 1st, 2022, sees lines of communication open and helps you re-establish dialogues and exchanges of ideas. If you’re single, you tend to be more introverted and can’t be bothered with romantic hassles. When it comes to money, April 2022 looks to be very interesting for you. The conjunction between Jupiter and Neptune is very promising. The online environment can also help you promote yourself or start an business that will be very successful. At work you will stand out and you’ll gain more from working as part of a team, The month starts with some issues with your health which could cause you issues, or you could feel tired and worn out. Take some time-out more “you time”. Pisces, Jupiter with Neptune give you the benefit at a new romantic beginning. You get the chance to change your life for the better and fulfill your most ambitious goals. As a result, in April 2022 you have every chance at repairing a relationship that’s been going badly. If you’re looking for love, you have great odds at starting a special relationship provided you’re not too self-absorbed. The New Moon of April 1st, 2022, stimulates the need for independence and the desire to earn more. If you don’t wait around and put in some work, you have great odds at finding a (new) job, improving your income, and starting a new professional project that will bring in extra income. You get the chance to fulfill your wildest and greatest dreams starting this month. Don’t waste this opportunity! Reinvent yourself, get going, and make it happen! Aries, The Sun transits your skies until the 19th, you’ll attract admiring glances and several proposals, but you don’t feel like taking things further than flirting. You are much more interested in yourself, and your own desires and projects. If you’re married, it would be a good idea to escape together for a few days. Get away from everyone, somewhere where you can relax fully and have fun as a couple again. April is going to be particularly favorable for you professionally and when it comes to income. The Mars-Saturn conjunction of the first week of April proves that you’re very determined to succeed professionally and that you’re willing to put in the hard work. The solar eclipse of April 30th, suggests that it’s time to reorganise your budget and adjust your priorities. This eclipse could cause an epiphany, which makes you realise what you’re doing wrong when it comes to money. Taurus, If you are single then you may experience a sudden crush on a friend, but be as realistic as possible, do you want to threaten the friendship? If you’re sure you’ve met someone who fits your ideals, this isn’t the time to rush into making plans for the future. The wisest thing would be to allow the relationship to grow naturally. Some of you start April with doubts about your professional path. If you have a ready-made plan for changing things and you’ve been contemplating for a long time but have hesitated to put into practice maybe now’s the time to make that change. On April 30th there’s a solar eclipse is totally in Taurus, marking the beginning of a term that encourages and favours changes. Optimism and confidence in the future help you get energized and motivated. It’s time to look at yourself in a different way and build the person you want to see in the mirror. Gemini, Neptune and Jupiter are speaking of a lucky time this month: maybe you get the chance to meet the love of your life, those who are involved in an unofficial connection get the chance to fulfill your dream of marrying the one you love. Professionally, you are in for an excellent term. You get the chance to adjust the direction in which your life or career is going from this month onwards. Maybe even make a major change of direction so that it fits your most ambitious goals. Don’t miss out on this opportunity! When it comes to money, you should pay off debts and make an effort to make do with the money you do have without getting loans. In order to regain the physical and mental balance this month, you need to make more time for rest and try to reconnect to your spiritual side.
