Ed’s Note

Hello and welcome to another bumper issue of the Costa Link, I would just like to say a big thank you to everyone that complimented us on our new look last month – it seems to have gone down really well! I hope you have been enjoying the summer – have you noticed the amount of sunburnt people walking about – ouch!! It’s funny how you see the difference between a holiday maker and a resident – no prizes for guessing that the resident is the one in the shade! And the number of parasols on the beach – it’s like a patchwork quilt! Whilst it seems everyone other than you is on holiday what a pleasure it is for the workers amongst us to sit down early evening with a nice cold drink and relax….. So it’s back to reality now, the kids are going back to school and the football season is now well under way, there is still time to enjoy the good weather and it’s not too hot! – Another thing I have noticed is that everyone is looking forward to the summer and when it arrives, they say it’s too hot! – I guess you just can’t please some people – I am sure they would rather be in sunny Spain than damp old England! Enjoy what’s left of the summer and watch out Christmas is on its way!!!!

... r e h t 11 contestants have entered the Celebrity Big Bro BrotherAll house g i - and the drama has already started. B b e l The house mates will live together for three weeks at the luxe C ury pad in this year's relaunch of the show. Former Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona kicked off the show, she warned host Brian that she was 'hyperactive'. Irish pop twins Jedward, aka John and Edward Grimes, arrived in the house wearing tiger print jackets and shoes with panda soft toys on them. Other housemates include Amy Childs, Tara Reid, Pamela Bach, Sally Bercow, Jedward, Paddy Doherty, Darryn Lyons, Lucien Laviscount, and Bobby Sabe. Amy, 21, is best known for her role as the red-headed beautician on reality show The Only Way Is Essex. Sally Bercow, wife of the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, revealed her husband 'wasn't exactly thrilled' she had entered the house. American Pie actress Tara, 35, is likely to be emotional over the next few weeks as she has had to leave her new husband in the US. Smooth-talking My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding star Paddy Doherty, 51, joined Kerry and Tara as the third contestant, telling both women they were 'beautiful. Actress Pamela Bach, 47, is best known as Britain's Got Talent judge David Hasslehoff's ex-wife. Lucien Laviscount, who played Ben Richardson on Coronation Street, is likely to have many of the women swooning. Little-known male model Bobby Sabe, 25, may also have hearts fluttering. Mr Paparazzi: Darryn Lyons shocked the other contestants with his pink hair and aviator sunglasses. His representatives have denied claims that Charlie Sheen will appear. Katie Price put a stop to rumours she was entering when she was snapped on holiday in the Spanish resort of Marbella with her children and boyfriend Leandro Penna.

X FACTOR chief Simon Cowell has admitted he does want his body frozen after he dies - calling it "an insurance policy". It came in an astonishing interview as Simon, 51, lifted the lid on his wacky lifestyle. He told how he wants to join the wealthy eccentrics who put their corpses on ice intending to be restored to life in the future. Simon explained: "It's an insurance policy. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. But if it does work, I'll be happy. "If it's possible - and I think it will be - why not have a second crack? Does that sound crazy? "I think it's a good idea. I have a feeling that if I don't do it, I could regret it in 300 years." Two US firms offer cryogenic freezing, in which people fork out up to £120,000 in the hope of being thawed out when a cure is found for whatever killed them. More than 1,000 people have already signed up to be frozen in liquid nitrogen. But the big freeze plan is just part of pop mogul Simon's world.....He revealed his morning ritual in the interview with the US edition of men's magazine GQ. It includes watching FLINTSTONES CARTOONS, while drinking a combination of elaborate SMOOTHIES. He also takes a weekly cocktail of vitamins through an intravenous DRIP. He also swears by climbing TREES. Simon said this week: "I climb trees daily. It's like a ritual." During the 30-minute drip-feed session, vitamin B12, magnesium and vitamin C are pumped into the star's bloodstream.Simon revealed: "Even when I'm having a viewing session with producers, she just sticks the needle in me and we carry on whatever we are doing. "It's an incredibly warm feeling. You feel all the vitamins going through you. It's indescribable but very calming. We don’t know what you think folks but it sounds like someone has stepped over the line of having a lot more money than sense......!

An Irish woman of advanced age visited her physician to ask his advice In reviving her husband's libido. "What about trying Viagra?" asked the doctor. "Not a chance", she said. "He won't even take an aspirin." "Not a problem," replied the doctor. "Give him an 'Irish Viagra'. It's when you drop the Viagra tablet into his coffee. He won't even taste it. Give it a try and call me in a week to let me know how things went." It wasn't a week later when she called the doctor, who directly Inquired as to her progress. The poor dear exclaimed, "Oh, faith, bejaysus and begorrah! T'was horrid! Just terrible, doctor!" "Really? What happened?" asked the doctor. "Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in his coffee and the effect was almost immediate. He jumped straight up, with a t winkle in his eye and with his pants a-bulging fiercely! With one swoop of his arm, he sent me cups and tablecloth flying, ripped me clothes to tatters and took me then and there passionately on the tabletop! It was a nightmare, I tell you, anabsolute nightmare!" "Why so terrible?" asked the doctor, "Do you mean the sex your husband provided wasn't good?" "Feckin jaysus, 't was the best sex I've had in 25 years! But sure asI'm sittin here, I'll never be able to show me face in Starbucks again!"

PLEASE GIVE ALL KNOWN DETAILS AS TO THE IDENTITY/WHEREABOUTS OF FATHER/S: Regarding the identity of the father of my twins, child A was fathered by John Smith. I am unsure as to the identity of the father of child B, but I believe that he was conceived on the same night.I am unsure as to the identity of the father of my child as I was being sick out of a window when taken unexpectedly from behind. I can provide you with a list of names of men that I think were at the party if this helps. I do not know the name of the father of my little girl. She was conceived at a party where I had unprotected sex with a man I met that night. I do remember that the sex was so good that I fainted. If you do manage to track down the father can you send me his phone number? Thanks. I don't know the identity of the father of my daughter. He drives a BMW that now has a hole made by my stiletto heel in one of the door panels. Perhaps you can contact BMW service stations in this area and see if he's had it replaced. From the dates it seems that my daughter was conceived at Euro Disney — maybe it really is the Magic Kingdom. So much about that night is a blur. The only thing that I remember for sure is Delia Smithdid a programme about eggs earlier in the evening. If I'd have stayed in and watched more TV rather than going to a party, [myeggs] might have remained unfertilised.

And then the

fight started

My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping channels. She asked, 'What's on TV?' I said, 'Dust.' And then the fight started... My wife and I are watching "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" while we were in bed.. I turned to her and said, "Do you want to have sex?" "No," she answered. I then said, "Is that your final answer?" She didn't even look at me this time, simply saying, "Yes." So I said, "Then I'd like to phone a friend." And then the fight started... Saturday morning I got up early, quietly dressed, made my lunch, grabbed the dog, and slipped quietly into the garage. I hooked up the boat up to the truck, and proceeded to back out into a torrential downpour. The wind was blowing 50 mph, so I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad all day. I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into bed. I cuddled up to my wife's back, now with a different anticipation, and whispered, "The weather out there is terrible." My loving wife of 10 years replied, "Can you believe my stupid husband is out fishing in that?" And that's how the fight started... I backed into a car this morning. So, there we were by the side of the road and slowly the other driver got out of his car. You know how sometimes you just get soooo stressed and little things just seem funny? Yeah, well I couldn't believe it.... He was a DWARF!!! He stormed over to my car, looked up at me, and shouted, "I AM NOT HAPPY!!!" So, I looked down at him and said, "Well, then which one are you?" And then the fight started...

A Man’ s World

The 5 toughest response is: "YES!" or, if you feel a more detailed questions for answer is in order, "Yes, dear." Inappropriate responses include: men are: 1. What are you A. Oh Yeah, loads. B. Would it make you feel better if I said yes? C. That depends on what you thinking about? 2. Do you love me? mean by love. D. Does it matter? E. Who, me? Question 3: Do I look fat? The correct answer is 3. Do I look fat? 4. Do you think she is an emphatic: "Of course not!" Among the incorrect

prettier than me?

5. What would you do if I died?

What makes these questions so difficult is that each one is guaranteed to explode into a major argument if the man answers incorrectly (i.e. tells the truth). Therefore, as a public service, each question is analysed below, along with possible responses. Question 1: What are you thinking about? The proper answer to this, of course, is: "I'm sorry if I've been pensive, dear. I was just reflecting on what a warm, wonderful, thoughtful, caring, intelligent woman you are, and how lucky I am to have met you." This response obviously bears no resemblance to the true answer, which most likely is one of the following: A.Sex B. Football. C. How fat you are. D. How much prettier she is than you. E. How I would spend the insurance money if you died. Question 2: Do you love me? The proper

26

answers are: A. Compared to what? B. Would it make you feel better if I said no? C. A little extra weight looks good on you. D. I've seen fatter. E. Could you repeat the question? I was just thinking about how I would spend the insurance money if you died. Question 4: Do you think she's prettier than me? Once again, the proper response is an emphatic: "Of course not!" Incorrect responses include: A.Yes, but you have a better personality. B.Not prettier, but definitely thinner. C Not as pretty as you when you were her age. D. Define pretty. E. Could you repeat the question? I was just thinking about how I would spend the insurance money if you died. Question 5: What would you do if I died? A definite no-win question. (The real answer, of course, is "Buy a sports car!")

home remedies for joint stiffness in dogs... Dogs will be susceptible to joint stiffness and pain just as we humans are. Although there are veterinary prescribed drugs to treat joint problems in dogs, these can sometimes lead to complications and other health issues. Home remedies, such as exercise, natural supplements and a good diet, can help alleviate your dog's joint problems. Joint problems can't be cured but the pain and stiffness can be helped so your dog can stay happy and comfortable. Stretching & Massage - Massaging the joints helps promote blood flow to the muscle and provides your dog with a temporary relief from the pain. Use your hands and fingertips to gently rub your dog's joints and surrounding muscle in small, circular movements to help alleviate the pain from swollen joints.. Start slowly to prevent causing the dog any pain by first stroking the area around the joint, and then slowly start to massage and knead the area. Supplements - Give your dog supplements like glucosamine and chondroitin to help maintain cartilage in the joints which you can buy from a natural herbalist shop. Glucosamine is an amino sugar found in glycosaminoglycans which helps build and maintain cartilage in the joints. Chondroitin helps by enhancing the production of glycosaminoglycans. Mixing in one or two tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil or fish oil into your dog's wet food can also help with stiff joints, because these oils contain natural compounds and fatty acids that reduce inflammation. Diet - Arthritis and joint problems are a common problem in fat dogs. Feeding your dog a healthy, low-calorie diet with reasonable portions will control the dog's weight and alleviate a lot of the pressure on its joints. Avoid feeding your dog too many snacks. Exercise your dog 15 to 30 minutes a day to help maintain its weight and strengthen the muscles that move the joints. Walking, running and going up and down stairs are all good exercises for dogs with joint problems. Swimming is one of the best exercises for dogs with joint problems because the water reduces the pressure on the joints and lets the dog move its limbs through the full range of motion, we have no excuse here in Spain we all know someone with a pool. For any further advise contact us on www.poshpetsspain.com or Call: 952 597 035.

Medical Tips

Health Options H

ealthy options in Medical Care Having made the move you are hopefully enjoying all the great things that Spain has to offer which includes the very best of health and of course should you need to seek the services of a doctor or perhaps even require hospital treatment, the local Spanish public healthcare system will look after you as long as the medical provider you are using accepts the European Health Insurance card (EHIC). Whilst some medical providers do, the numbers of places where you can still obtain free health care are becoming a rare commodity and remember the EHIC only covers treatment for emergencies not for elective medical treatment such as a hip replacement. But beware, whilst your treatment may be funded by the State, you may still be required to contribute to the cost of your medical care so be prepared to put your hand in your pocket. Not all medical Care is free..... Basic healthcare provided through the Spanish public healthcare system is usually provided free of charge, however quite often after seeing your GP you may be referred to a Specialist who may charge for his services and any bills that you may incur as a result of his advice and treatment will not be covered by your EHIC. If you have a private medical insurance policy, you will normally be required to obtain ‘authorization’ from your insurer prior to your admission otherwise you could find that you cover is reduced or even invalidated. You should also bear in mind that dental treatment is generally not available under the Spanish public healthcare system, so it is important to check before you start any course of treatment what the true costs are likely to be. Whilst some private medical insurance plans do cover dental treatment to some degree, the benefits offered tend to be fairly low and may have additional limits according to the procedure being carried out, so do check with your policy to see what is and what isn’t covered. When you need a prescription, be prepared to pay for it. Your will normally by charged for any prescription medicines obtained from a chemist unless you are a state pensioner (so be prepared to prove your age if you are a pensioner) and should you require additional medication after leaving hospital, you will need to take the medical report given to you by the hospital to your family doctor, who will give you a prescription. Public or Private Whilst the Spanish Public System offers a great deal, it may not be everything that you need or everything that you want, you may not even be eligible to use it. So what is the answer? Just a quick browse of the internet brings up a whole range of insurance options to choose from with the majority being of the “take it or leave it” variety which may or may not suit you. Some are designed simply to provide you with cover in your adopted country, whilst others offer the option to seek medical treatment outside of Spain including back in your home country. But which is best for you and how do you find your way around what can often seem to be a minefield of options? ALC Health, is a Preferred Partner of “medilink” and a leading international medical Insurance provider offering a wide choice of policies designed to take the worry out of seeking what can often be expensive medical care. And then the

fight started cont When I got home last night, my wife demanded that I take her somewhere expensive... so, I took her to a petrol station. And then the fight started... After retiring, I went to the Social Security office to apply for pension. The woman behind the counter asked me for my driver's license to verify my age. I looked in my pockets and realised I had left my wallet at home. I told the woman that I was very sorry, but I would have to go home and come back later. The woman said, 'Unbutton your shirt'. So I opened my shirt revealing my curly silver hair. She said, 'That silver hair on your chest is proof enough for me' and she processed my pension application. When I got home, I excitedly told my wife about my experience at the Social Security office. She said, 'You should have dropped your pants. You might have got disability allowance, too.' And then the fight started... My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, 'Do you know her?' 'Yes,' I sighed, 'She's my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn't been sober since.' 'My God!' says my wife, 'who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?' And that's how the fight started... I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order first. "I'll have the fillet steak, medium rare, please." He said, "Aren't you worried about the mad cow?" Nah, she can order for herself." And then the fight started... A woman is standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror. She is not happy with what she sees and says to her husband, 'I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly. I really need you to pay me a compliment.' The husband replies, 'Your eyesight's damn near perfect.' And then the fight started...

Morbid MoMents

An little old lady was very upset as her husband Albert had just passed away. She went to the undertakers to have one last look at her dearly departed husband. The instant she saw him she started crying. The mortician walked over to comfort her. Through her tears she explained that she was upset because her dearest Albert was wearing a black suit, and it was his fervent wish to be buried in a blue suit. The mortician apologised and explained that traditionally they always put bodies in a black suit, but he'd see what he could arrange. The next day she returned to the funeral parlor to have one last moment with Albert before the funeral the following day. When the mortician pulled back the curtain, she managed a smile through her tears as Albert was resplendent in a smart blue suit. She said to the mortician, “Wonderful, wonderful, but where did you get that beautiful suit?” “Well, yesterday afternoon after you left, a man about your husband's size was brought in and he was wearing a blue suit,” the mortician replied. “His wife was quite upset because she wanted him buried in the traditional black suit.” Albert's wife smiled at the undertaker. “After that,” he continued, “it was just a matter of swapping the heads.”

Health&

Well Being

What is Reflexology? Reflexology is a therapy that treats the feet or hands in order to balance the whole body. Its main principle is that by massaging and applying pressure to parts of the feet known as reflex areas, other corresponding and connected areas of the body will feel the benefit. In reflexology, the feet and hands are like minimaps of the body’s anatomy so any body system can be accessed and stimulated by massaging the corresponding area of the foot. The aim is to stimulate the body’s own healing processes in order to keep it in homeostasis, i.e. balanced. It encourages both both relaxation and stimulation: the first helps the body rebuild its energy resources and the second helps activate the circulation and the nervous system, making both more efficient and thus benefiting the body as a whole. So it’s a Foot Massage? Not exactly. It uses massage techniques but, unlike massage, reflexology works with the feet as anatomical ‘maps’ of the whole body. By applying pressure to one part of the foot, the reflexologist aims to benefit not only the feet but also the rest of the body.

What are the Benefits? While not claiming to be a miracle cure, the benefits of reflexology can have a powerful healing effect as it allows our bodies to regain their proper balance and removes unhealthy blockages. It is thought to be beneficial for a wide variety of complaints from back pain to migraine to sleep disorders. Some people who’ve had sports injuries believe that it helped them to recover quicker. Arthritis sufferers have also found it has eased their pain. May you stay in the best of health...Mike Izon

Apple & Blackberry Shortcake...

Ingredients:

For the fruit: 2 large tart

cooking apples & 4 eating apples 1 lemon, finely grated zest 2 tbsp caster sugar 150 g fresh or frozen blackberries For the shortcake: 185 g unsalted butter 185 g caster sugar, plus extra for sprinkling 1 egg, plus 1 egg yolk 275 g plain flour 1 1/2 tsp baking powder For the brandy custard: 4 egg yolks 3 tsp cornflour 2 tbsp caster sugar 1 tsp vanilla extract 250 ml milk &185 ml cream about 3 tbsp brandy

Method:

1. For the fruit: peel the apples, remove the cores and cut each apple into about 16 slices. Put the apples, lemon zest, sugar and 2 tablespoons of water in a medium saucepan. Cover and stew over a low heat for about 10 minutes, until the apples are soft but not mushy. Allow them to cool.

2. For the pastry: cream the butter and caster sugar together in a mixing bowl until fluffy and smooth. Add the egg and mix well. Sift the flour and baking powder into the mixture and stir until combined. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and divide the dough into two equal portions. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for 30 minutes. 3. Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/Gas 4. Roll each piece of cake dough into a round approximately 22cm across. Press one round into a 24cm nonstick springform cake tin. Spread the apples over the dough, leaving a small border around the edge, then put the blackberries on top. Place the other round of dough on top and press the edges together. Brush with water and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. 4. For the brandy custard: in a small bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, cornflour, sugar and vanilla, then whisk in the milk and cream until smooth. Transfer to a medium saucepan and stir over a low heat for 10 minutes, or until the mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon. 5. Add the brandy to taste, stirring well. Remove the pan from the heat, cover and keep warm. 6. Remove the tart from the oven and allow to cool in the tin for 10 minutes before removing and serving with the brandy custard.

RESTAURANTReview..... Mijas Playa, La Cala We saw an advert for The Mijas Playa Restaurant and looked it up on the internet, there were descriptions such as, excellent, amazing and one even said “the best restaurant on the Costa Del Sol”. So we had to go there! We were greeted in the most opulent reception by the Maitre d’ who showed us to the table on the terrace where we both had a couple of FREE aperitifs in the shade before we were shown to the table that we had reserved, it was sited close to the piano and we had an excellent view of the live singer. Then came the food! I had the Thai wok Calamari with noodles, and a really good size portion, and my husband had the Moorish Lamb Skewers with humus, and minted Cucumber, the flavors that came through in both dishes were amazing. I followed with Duck Three Ways, crispy breast of duck, Thigh and King Edward potato, Confit drumstick with vegetables and orange Sauce - this was an absolute delight, and my husband had the Beef Wellington with mushrooms and parsley in a Madeira wine sauce, the beef was excellent quality and once again the flavor was excellent. We were so full after these two courses but had enjoyed them so much that we were unable to resist desserts, I had the strawberries with balsamic whipped cream, which were perfect and my husband had their award winning treacle tart with clotted cream ice-cream which he really struggled to finish – but he managed! The service, the atmosphere, the live music and the food made the perfect dining experience. The reviews that I had read really did not let us down and although I have not been to every restaurant on the Costa del Sol, this without a doubt the best I have been to.

DID You Know..... • Dry cereal for breakfast was invented by John Henry Kellogg at the turn of the century • Jeremy Bentham, a British philosopher who died in 1832,left his entire estate to the London Hospital provided that his body be allowed to preside over its board meetings. His skeleton was clothed and fitted with a wax mask of his face. It is produced by the decomposition of dead plants and animals in the mud. • The E. The rotation of the bacterial motor comes from a current of protons. The efficiency of the motor approaches 100 per cent. • Henry Ford produced the model T mostly in black because the black paint available at the time was the fastest to dry. A small bottle containing urine sat upon the The desk of Sir William Osler, the eminent of medicine at Oxford University. imporTance of professor Sitting before him was a class full of young, paying wide-eyed medical students, listening to his lecture on the importance of observing aTTenTion details. To emphasize his point, Sir Osler

announced: “This bottle contains a urine sample for analysis. It`s often possible by tasting it to determine the disease from which the patient suffers.”He then dipped a finger into the fluid and brought it into his mouth. He continued speaking: “Now I am going to pass the bottle around. Each of you please do exactly as I did. Perhaps we can learn the importance of this technique and diagnose the case.” The bottle made it`s way from row to row, each student gingerly poking his finger in and bravely sampling the contents with a frown. Dr Osler then retrieved the bottle and startled his students by saying: “Gentlemen, now you will understand what I mean when I speak about details. Had you been observant, you would have seen that I put my INDEX FINGER in the bottle but my MIDDLE FINGER into my mouth!”

Toilet Humour

Bathroom Banter - I'm in a bar, having a few drinks, when I realize I gotta take a leak. So I go into one of the restroom stalls, and moments later, the guy in the next stall, says "Hi. How's it going?" So, I go "Uhhh, all right." A couple of seconds later he says, "What are ya doing tonight?" So, naturally I replied, "Just having' a couple of beers, and then I'm going home."The next thing he says is, "Listen, I'll call you back later. There's an idiot in the next stall, answering everything I say."

Strange but true... Dead or Alive...

A 50-year-old South African man thought to be dead woke up in a chilly morgue on Sunday and shouted to be let out, scaring off two attendants who thought he was a ghost, local media reported. "His family thought he had died," health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo told the Sapa news agency. "The family called a private undertaker who took what they thought was a dead body to the morgue, but the man woke up inside the morgue on Sunday at 5:00 pm and screamed, demanding to be taken out of the cold place."This caused two mortuary attendants on duty to flee the building in the small town of Libode in the rural Eastern Cape as they thought it was a ghost. After calling for help and returning to find the man alive, an ambulance was sent to fetch the man who had "been exposed to extreme cold for nearly 24 hours" said Kupelo. He said the public should not assume that a sick person had died and contact a mortuary, the report said. "Doctors, emergency workers and the police are the only people who have a right to examine the patients and determine if they are dead or not."

Burns in all the wrong places...

A man suffered life-threatening burns Monday after a portable toilet he was using exploded, apparently after he lit a cigarette. The victim, who was taking part in a joint Australia-United States military exercise at the time, was rushed to hospital with burns to his head, face, arms, chest and airways after the incident at Rockhampton airport. "There was some sort of explosion in a portaloo. It's believed the man was lighting a cigarette at the time," a Department of Community Safety spokeswoman said. The Australian Defence Force confirmed the explosion happened during the Talisman Sabre joint military exercises, and said the injured man belonged to the Royal Australian Air Force."The Royal Australian Air Force member received immediate first aid from his colleagues and he was taken to the Rockhampton Base Hospital with severe burns," said spokesman Brigadier Bob Brown.

FINANCIAL

Economic & Currency News... QROPS - Expat Pension Schemes A Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Scheme (QROPS), is essentially a pension wrapper (similar to a SIPP), which is held in an offshore jurisdiction (e.g. Guernsey, Jersey, New Zealand). Recent European legislation has meant that UK pension holders have the right to move their pension pot overseas, if they are (or intend to be) an expat for at least 5 years. Originally the key benefits over a UK pension scheme was the ability to avoid taking a compulsory annuity, and the facility to drawdown cash. However, the pension laws in the UK changed this year, so it is no long compulsory to take an annuity, and as long as you have adequate income elsewhere (minimum income guarantee), you can drawdown up to 100% of your UK pension, subject to tax. Indeed if you have a small enough pension lump sum (currently under £18,000), you take take the whole lump sum as cash under UK trivial commutation laws (after the age of 60), without the need of a minimum income. Although the key 'selling points' of a QROPS over a UK pension have been removed this year, taking your UK pension and moving it overseas still has potential advantages, these include : 1. 2. 3. 4.

Choice of currencies – to reduce currency risk Wider fund and investment choices Taxation benefits (particularly inheritance tax) Administration benefits

One popular area of the QROPS market is 'pension cash release', whereby expats are offered the facility of drawing down up to 100% cash from their pension pots (less advisor commission). There has been some controversy in this area, as it is seen as a 'loophole' that the UK HMRC are keen to shut down, and could result in high tax charges (up to 55%) many years after the pension has been cashed in. There is great debate between differing financial advisory firms, as to whether this is the case or not. The loophole took advantage of the New Zealand pension scheme, which allows pension holders to drawdown 100% of their pension pot under some circumstances. However draft legislation published in August this year, by the New Zealand government could potentially put an end to the country's burgeoning QROPS market. The legislation, the Financial Markets Conduct Bill, states that anyone joining a New Zealand-based pension scheme must be either a resident of the country or employed by the New Zealand government. The draft, which was published by the recently formed Financial Markets Authority, is open for consultation until 6 September but some commentators are warning that, without amendments, the legislation could effectively end the New Zealand QROPS market. If you are considering moving your UK pension overseas, it is important to get advice from qualified and experienced consultants, and compare all the options available. It may also be worthwhile to obtain a cost-benefit analysis on whether moving your pension overseas is actually worthwhile.

Make the most of your money..... We all know of late how difficult it is trying to make the most of your money transfers be it transferring your pension to Spain, covering mortgage, annual maintenance fees or just wishing to transfer funds for living expenses, finding the right time is key and Costa Link Magazine are proud to partner with Moneycorp who can help our readers make the most of their transfers. During the last couple of weeks we have all heard how the stock markets have reacted and how fear has driven selling sessions . Unfortunately its not just shares that have been hit, worries about the debt in America, the loss of its AAA credit rating (by one agency) and some of the difficulties in the Eurozone such as a further bailout for Greece and both the Spanish and Italian government selling bonds and more recently those bonds being purchased by The ECB, has meant the value of the pound has moved 3 cents in the last month with interbank rates being between 1.125 and 1.155 so finding the right time to transfer your money was very important and that’s where Moneycorp can help you. The euro exchange rate has been less than stable and this is likely to continue for the short term particularly as a recent summit meeting between President Sarkozy and Chancellor Merkel have made it clear that to continue to bail out more European countries is not the correct way forward. So we will certainty see less harmony at the moment in the Euro zone which should weaken the euro.......unless the problems with employment, housing, manufacturing etc in America continue as they are. Will America see more printing on money known fondly as (QE) to ease some of their pressures? What we do know is that interest rates in America are likely to remain low for some time and there is the possibility that The ECB could reduce their rate instead of holding at its present level, so seeing how investors respond is the key to the strength or weakness of these currencies . Costa Link fully appreciates that its readers deserve to be provided with professional and friendly advice and be in a position of making the most of their money so we suggest you call Moneycorp at their local office on 951319700 and one of their team will have a chat with you. Make the most of your money and let them know that Costa Link sent you.

Flying

78

One of the most famous flying cars is The Aerocar, built in 1946, and called a "roadable aircraft." The Aerocar had wings that folded up, allowing the car to be easily converted into flight mode by a single person in just five minutes. When the rear license plate was flipped up, the propeller shaft and a pusher propeller could be attached. When driving on the road, the wings and tail unit were simply towed behind the vehicle and could reach 60 miles per hour, it had a top airspeed of 110 miles per hour. The AVE Mizar built between 1971 and 1973 by Advanced Vehicle Engineers by mating the rear portion of a Cessna Skymaster to a Ford Pinto. Production was scheduled to begin in 1974. However in September, 1973, during a test flight, the right wing strut detached from the Pinto, The pilot and passenger were killed. Putting an end to the project And now qualified pilots can order their very own Terrafugia Transition 'roadable' plane for just 150,000€, with delivery planned for late next year. The plane, which has fold-out wings that span 27.5ft when extended, has an airborne range of 460 miles and can cruise at 115mph.It is capable of travelling at 'highway speeds' in car mode and runs on normal unleaded fuel.A series of simple commands made from the cockpit convert it from plane to car and vice versa. LaBiche Aerospace FSC-1 – with 5 seats, this is the largest and most “family-friendly” design, although it also looks to be the most complex. In car mode, it also looks the most like an actual car, and a nice-looking one at that. They are still building the prototype. Expected cost is around 120,000€ European company PAL-V will soon manufacture an helicopter/car hybrid. It has 3 wheels and a top speed of 200 km/h on land and air. It can run on petrol, biodisel or bio-ethanol and will cost around 50,000€. The single seated vehicle has a very short take off and vertical landing capability. At less than 70 decibels it is quieter than a helicopter due to the slower rotation of the main rotor.

Golf Tips And Tricks Are You a Wiggler? Set up is 95% of your game, the position you get into before you swing is the one you intend to return to as you strike the ball if it is wrong it will lead to a bad shot, this is something I am sure you all know and you have worked hard to develop a system that you repeat every time you address the ball that allows you to check the six points of the set up.

Aim Grip Stance Posture Alignment Ball Posture But what do you do if things don’t feel right do you step away and start again or are you a wiggler, a wiggler knows something is wrong, often identifies the problem perfectly and then proceeds to wiggle around until the problem is solved, what I have noticed over the years I have been coaching is as the wiggling stops another part of the set up has been put out of place by it, the wiggler does not notice and goes ahead to play the shot, the result is a bad shot is played. What you must do is STEP AWAY AND START AGAIN when you notice a fault in your set up, what you want is a set up that is in the correct position each time you address the ball, if you wiggle to get things into the right position you are accepting that the fault exists but

80

never working to put it right, simply playing with it every time play golf. On the practice ground teach yourself to STEP AWAY AND START AGAIN, it will take only a few seconds to setup again it can take longer looking for a wayward shot that could even be a lost ball. By Mark Sibley

A priest and pastor from the local parishes are standing by the side of the road holding up a sign that reads, “The End is Near! Turn yourself around now before it's too late!” They planned to hold up the sign to each passing car. “Leave us alone, you religious nuts!” yelled the first driver as he sped by. From around the curve they heard screeching tires and a big splash. “Do you think,” said one clergy to the other, “we should just put up a sign that says 'Bridge Out' instead?”

A blonde, a brunette, and a redhead all work at the same office for a female boss who always goes home early. "Hey, girls," says the brunette, "let's go home early tomorrow. She'll never know." So the next day, they all leave right after the boss does. The brunette gets some extra gardening done, the redhead goes to a bar, and the blonde goes home to find her husband having sex with the female boss! She quietly sneaks out of the house and returns at her normal time. "That was fun," says the brunette. "We should do it again sometime." "No way," says the blonde. "I almost got caught."

A bus stops and two Italian men get on. They sit down and engage in an animated Conversation. The lady sitting next to them ignores them at first, but her attention is galvanized when she hears one of them say the following: 'Emma come first. Den I come. Den two asses come together. I come once-a-more! Two asses, they come together again. I come again and pee twice. Then I come one LastaTime.' The lady can't take this any more, 'You foul-mouthed sex obsessed pig.'She retorted indignantly. 'In this country, we don't speak aloud in public places about our sex lives.' 'Hey, cooladown lady, ' said the man. 'Who talkin'aboutasex? I'm a just atellin my frienda how to spell ' Mississippi '.

A young man was walking down the road with a box of tape. His neighbour stopped him to find out what he was up to. "I'm going to catch some ducks with this duck tape." the young man said. "Nah man, that's not how it works!" the neighbour replied. Much to his surprise, half an hour later the man returned with a crate full of ducks. The next day the young man travelled past his neighbour again, this time with a huge roll of chicken wire. "What are you up to now?" the neighbour questioned "I'm going to catch some chickens" the young man exclaimed "Nah man, seriously, that's not what it's for!" the neighbour said. But incredibly, later that day the young man returned with a cage full of live chickens. A few days later the young man passed his neighbour, this time carrying a large bundle of pussy willows. "Hold on!" the neighbour said excitedly, "I'm going to get my hat."

A look at what's in store for you during September.....

Capricorn

Aquarius

Pisces

Aries

Taurus

Gemini

90

A feeling of personal power and stronger, clearer ambitions are with you this month, Capricorn. You are bolder and your vision is more lucid, especially from the 13th forward. There can be new insights and developments in learning areas, studies, in your neighborhood or with siblings, or in activities surrounding communication. You may receive good news or you might read something that inspires you to change your learning focus, to write about a topic you hadn't considered before, or through channels that you have never tried, for example. You are more open to communicating about subjects or feelings that you have previously kept to yourself. Inspiration can be found now, and it's likely to come through your conversations or communications with others. From the 8th, romance is friendlier and more light-hearted. This trend continues until January 2011. Friends, group activities, and networking activities play a large role in your love life. The Full Moon on the 23rd illuminates a family matter. Your ruler, Uranus, is back with the New Moon, You wanted it all and all is coming! Aquarius. From the 14th forward, you are pouring much energy into work projects and other professional activities. Your personal magnetism runs high, and you're likely to find much support and personal popularity in your career or community. From mid-month, going after what you want, whether it's a promotion or an idea you are pushing, is especially favored. Jupiter aligns with your ruler, Uranus, again this month, bringing a hopeful attitude, beneficial connections through networking efforts, and improved financial status. There may be a sudden change in financial position, even a windfall or significant gift, a sudden urge to spend or invest money, a new money-making idea or project that seems to come out of nowhere, new insights into money, money-making ability, or self-worth. Money might be seen now for its value as a tool used to achieve more freedom in your life. A partnership is in strong focus this month, Pisces. Surprises in close relationships are likely from the 17th22nd. Career matters are electric this month--expect the unexpected! Changes are in the works, and positive. Inspiration can come along suddenly, or seemingly so, from something you read, a conversation, a co-worker, or perhaps even a dream this month. The urge to break free from limiting conditions or, more likely, outworn attitudes, is intense now. You are looking to the future, not to the past, and the desire to leap forward into new and unexplored territory is powerful. Career goals, professional interests and changes, or social standing could be catalysts for this process. Romantic matters are intense, personal, and deep as you begin the month. From the 8th forward, your love life begins to take a turn that continues for the rest of 2010. Some of you will find that you're attracted to people you've never considered before. The Full Moon on the 23rd can shed new light on a financial matter or project. Work keeps you on your toes this month Aries, but your personal life doesn't take a backseat. While there can be complications with work (delays and perhaps redoing of tasks) that have you feeling like you're not making much progress for all the effort you are putting in, by mid-month, things are running much more smoothly. Love matters are becoming a little complicated as well, but pleasantly so. Romance intensifies and passions run deep, especially around the 12th and 18th. You are thinking a lot about health and nutrition matters, and September is a good month for researching new strategies for improvement. Career matters become clearer after the 13th, and certain work projects move forward. Surprising events and changes occur to your inner world around the 18th. Intuition is heightened, particularly regarding matters that have been holding you back from growing. The 23rd brings personal revelations. Personal relationships are a big focus this month, Taurus. While romantic matters can be complicated, misunderstandings and hesitancy lift by mid-month. Your affectionate nature is well-defined in September. The desire to bring harmony to partnerships and to enjoy leisure time with a lover is strong. A partner is likely to be especially spirited and amorous as well, demanding more of your attention, particularly in the last two weeks of the month. For some of you, a budding new partnership is possible, and for others, much focus on enhancing romance in an existing relationship is likely. It's time to have some fun! New opportunities through friendships, group associations, and other forms of networking might arise this month. Your reputation is enhanced on the 4th & 5th, when good word spreads. Education matters or travel plans become clearer as motivation increases. Money matters improve through a partnership. Interesting surprises occur in September, Gemini, in the areas of partnerships, career, and reputation or social standing. These can serve to push you out of a no-win or dead-end position. Some of you will be experiencing exciting changes in close relationships, meeting new people that further your career, or encountering new opportunities through travel or educational interests. You are learning about the world around you through the eyes of a special person or through other one-to-one relationships, such as clients. Meeting a partner through travel or educational activities, partnering with a co-worker, or working with a partner are also possible. Family matters that have been troubling clear up by the middle of September. Shared finances and debts become clearer now as well. Decision making becomes much more straightforward at this time.

Cancer

Leo

Virgo

Libra

Scorpio

Sagittarius

In September, Cancer, you are pouring a lot of energy into friendships, networking, learning, and pleasure. The urge for adventure and new experiences that introduce you to new cultures, beliefs, or feelings is very strong mid-month. Sudden opportunities to expand your horizons, such as through travel, adventure, or learning can arise and jolt you out of your routine. New insights into work and health matters keep you motivated. Until the 14th, the probability of some confusion, delays, and misunderstandings with friends and in communications or transportation runs high, after which these matters begin to clear. Love is intense this month, but in a mostly pleasant manner. There is an "all or nothing" energy to romance in September with Venus and Mars both entering Scorpio. Fortunately for you, Scorpio is associated with a feel-good sector of your chart, and you are more likely to experience the "all" part of the "all or nothing" equation! Personal magnetism runs high, especially around the 18th. Getting your finances in order is in focus this month, Leo. Financial matters become more defined and clear by the 14th, as do practical concerns and work matters. Projects that have been delayed now begin to move forward. Intuition runs high from the 8-12th, but putting plans into action should be saved for the 14th and beyond. Developments in the financial or emotional support you receive, whether it's through loans, the resources of a partner, or other types of help, are quick and surprising. You might find yourself in a situation of sharing or pooling your resources with a partner. Alternatively, this can be a time of sudden insights and opportunities for emotional renewal or healing that give you a sense of power and self-mastery. By mid-month, love becomes less communicative in a superficial sense and more about passion and feelings that run so deep that they're hard to describe. Some of you will be meeting new romantic interests or experiencing a rejuvenation of romance in existing relationships. You are brimming with creative ideas this month, Virgo. Being honest and communicative boosts your reputation and appeal in September. The New Moon on the 8th begins a month-long cycle in which you are noticed, personally powerful, and more confident. Career matters are strong, especially after the 12th. Success in the communications industry is indicated. Financial boosts are possible on the 4-5th and 12th. Love is improved and clearer from mid-month. Sudden opportunities with or through a partner can arise. Some of you might enter into a new partnership quickly. A working partnership could be involved, or an alliance with an old family friend or co-worker might occur now. Some of you could find opportunities to work from home. For those looking, a job offer can come your way. A matter that was previously hidden can come to light and help you to see more clearly. Personal magnetism continues to run high in September, Libra. Until the 8th, Venus continues to journey through your sign, boosting your appeal, charm, and tact. Until the 14th, Mars continues to add energy, initiative, intensity, and drive to your nature. Although both planets move out of your sign this month, they are moving rather close to one another, and this keeps partnering exciting throughout the month. Nevertheless, until the 22nd, you are in a yearly cycle of spiritual renewal, closing projects and paths in your life that no longer serve a good purpose. You take more down time than usual. The 22nd brings a yearly cycle of personal power that lasts until October 23rd. Home and family life improves this month, as do financial matters. Opportunities and new insights come in the areas of work or health. The temptation to break out of lifeless aspects of a job is strong, and some of you will be feeling such inner restlessness that you feel you need to make a radical change. A personally popular month is in store for you, Scorpio. You are easily making connections, and your attitude is upbeat. Until the 14th, you continue to take time when it comes to setting goals and going after what you want, however. You are getting in touch with what it is you desire. After the 14th, clarity comes. You experience increased energy and motivation for setting personal plans into motion. For those looking for work, job offers might arrive. Any misunderstandings with friends are likely to clear from the 12th. From the 8th, personal magnetism runs exceptionally high. A partner has your best interests at heart. New intuition or insights come to you around the 18th regarding romance and creativity. Surprises are in store. For some of you, unusual and exciting romantic experiences are possible. You are inclined to take chances on creative or romantic levels. From the 22nd, you require a little more time alone to regroup. Career matters are strong this month, Sagittarius. Whether you are seeking it or not, you are in the spotlight. Show the most competent and responsible side of your nature now for maximum success. While there can be some backtracking and progress might seem slow, after the 12th, these matters clear up. A partner or partnership becomes clearer mid-month, as do financial matters. Many of you will be focusing on learning, improving your skills set, and possibly writing or speaking in new ways this month. New and exciting energy is brought to your domestic life. There may be a scurry of activity at this time, or opportunities that seem to come out of the blue. From the 8th forward, your love life is especially private or quiet. This trend continues until January 2011, as Venus will be spending an unusual amount of time in your privacy and soul sector. You're less outwardly affectionate and require some time to soulsearch about your love life. The 23rd brings new light on a romantic or creative endeavor.
