5 Must-Haves for Outdoor Entertaining on The Costa del Sol

Let your personal style shine and elevate your hosting skills with these 5 ideas for outdoor entertaining on the stunning Costa del Sol. As the sun-kissed Spanish coast beckons, it’s time to prepare your outdoor space for memorable gatherings with family and friends. Whether you have a spacious terrace, a lush garden, or a cosy patio, these must-haves will transform your outdoor area into the perfect entertainment oasis.

Page 12 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

Stylish Outdoor Furniture:

Comfortable and chic outdoor furniture sets the tone for a memorable gathering. Opt for plush, weather-resistant sofas, armchairs, and coffee tables that allow your guests to relax and unwind. To truly embrace the Mediterranean ambiance, consider selecting furniture with a coastal vibe, such as light-coloured wicker or teak wood. Don’t forget to provide ample seating to accommodate all your guests comfortably, making sure everyone feels at home as you soak in the sun and sea breeze.

Ambient Lighting:

As the sun sets over the Costa del Sol, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere through ambient lighting is essential for extending your outdoor festivities into the evening. String lights draped across the space or hung above your dining area add a magical touch. Incorporate lanterns or tea lights on tables and pathways to create a cosy and intimate ambiance. Soft, golden lighting will not only set the mood but also provide a beautiful backdrop against the starlit sky.

Refreshing Outdoor Bar:

A well-stocked outdoor bar is a must-have for hosting unforgettable gatherings on the Costa del Sol. Set up a stylish bar cart or a dedicated bar area with all the essentials, including a variety of beverages, cocktail mixers, garnishes, and glassware. Encourage your guests to get creative and mix their own drinks while enjoying the balmy evenings. Don’t forget to provide plenty of ice to keep the drinks cool, ensuring everyone stays refreshed and hydrated.

Shade and Cooling Solutions:

While the Costa del Sol is known for its beautiful weather, the summer sun can get intense. To ensure your guests remain comfortable throughout the day, provide shade and cooling solutions. Large umbrellas, retractable awnings, or pergolas with climbing plants can offer respite from the sun’s rays. You could also consider installing misting systems or fans to keep the air pleasantly cool, especially during the hotter months.

Mediterranean-Inspired Table Settings:

Enhance your outdoor dining experience with Mediterranean-inspired table settings. Use vibrant tablecloths, colourful tableware, and artistic centrepieces that evoke the region’s coastal charm. Incorporate local elements like seashells, fresh flowers, and citrus fruits to add a touch of authenticity to the setup. An inviting table will not only make your guests feel special but also set the stage for delightful conversations and shared laughter.

By incorporating these five must-haves into your outdoor entertaining space on the Costa del Sol, you can create an enchanting atmosphere that celebrates the beauty of the Mediterranean while elevating your hosting skills. Let your personal style shine through, and prepare to create cherished memories with your loved ones against the backdrop of one of Spain’s most breathtaking coastal regions.

Cheers to unforgettable outdoor gatherings!

Spanish Firsts and Inventions

The Lollipop

Enric Bernat had a revolutionary idea in 1957: to create a piece of candy mounted on a small stick. Bernat got the idea of his lollipops from him getting sticky hands from melting sweets. Bernat feltthatatthattime, sweetswerenotdesignedfor children. The popular Spanish brand of lollipop Chupa Chups was founded in 1958.

Shopkeepers were instructed to place his striped bonbon on a wooden stick for one peseta near the cash register within reach of children’s hands, instead of the usual placement behind the counter.

Did you know that some of the items that you use every day are actually the fruit of Spanish inventors? Check each month as we share Spanish firsts and inventions to learn more about how Spanish ingenuity influences your daily life!

The Chupa Chups logo was designed by artist Salvador Dalí in 1969 and, some decades later, in 1995, it became the first sweet to be consumed in space. The name of the brand comes from the Spanish verb chupar, meaning “to suck”.

Chupa Chups soon spread around the whole world and now has 2,000 employees with a turnover of an estimated €500,000,000.

It’s A Funny Old World:

It’s Ironic!

The definition of irony: a situation that is strange or funny because things happen in a way that seems the opposite of what you expected. When it comes to finding examples of irony, life proves stranger (and funnier) than fiction. These ironic examples will raise anyone’s eyebrows and bring a laugh or two.

The Bible

Apparently, thieves missed the “Thou shalt not steal” part of the Ten Commandments. According to experts, the Bibleisthemostcommonly stolen book. The Holy Bible is available for free at many places of worship, so perhaps there’s less guilt associated with pilfering a copy.

Match.com

Gary Kremen, the founder of Match.com, encouraged everyone he knew to join it, including his girlfriend. She eventually left him for a man she met on Match. com.

McDonald’s

In one of the more hilarious examples of irony, the online McDonalds’ employee health page, which is now shut down, once warned against eating McDonald’s burgers and fries.

Charlie Chaplin

He once entered a “Charlie Chaplin walk” contest… and came in 20th.

Alexander Graham Bell

Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone but refused to keep one in his study. He feared it would distract him from his work.

Sizzling Secrets to Staying Fit at 45 and Beyond!

Hola, my fabulous fitness aficionados! It’s me, your sun-kissed señor of staying sprightly, here to spill the beans (low-calorie, of course) on how to keep your zest for life alive and kicking while soaking up the sun on the Costa del Sol. If you’re lucky enough to be in the prime of life and basking in the Spanish glory at 45 and beyond, fear not – I’ve got the most unconventional, and downright hilarious tips to help you become a master of fitness fiesta! Olé to that!

Paella Poses and Flamenco Flexing:

Ditch the regular gym routine, because it’s time to embrace the true essence of the Costa del Sol. Start your day with a hearty dose of Paella Poses and Flamenco Flexing – a workout routine inspired by the region’s culinary and cultural gems. While you sauté those veggies, practice squats over the simmering paella pan. And nothing works those abs better than twirling around like a Flamenco dancer – just make sure the castanets stay in your workout bag!

Sip & Sculpt:

Ever heard of “sip and paint”? Well, here it’s all about “sip and sculpt.” Grab your sangria and a pair of light dumbbells (or sangria jugs if you’re feeling extra brave) and get those biceps popping while enjoying the sunset on your terrace. By the time the sun dips below the horizon, your arms will be as sculpted as Michelangelo’s David – or at least close enough for a standing ovation at the local tapas bar.

Page 28 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

Siesta Stretching:

The siesta isn’t just for napping; it’s prime time for Siesta Stretching! Channel your inner yogi and transform your siesta into a rejuvenating stretch session. Picture this: you’re lying on a sunbed, eyes half-closed, subtly engaging your core, and flowing through sun salutations. Make sure your beach towel becomes your yoga mat.

Guacamole Gymnastics:

Incorporate food into your fitness routine with the revolutionary Guacamole Gymnastics! For the perfect avocado squat, hold a bowl of freshly made guac at knee height and squat down to dip your tortilla chip. Engage your quads as you rise backup–it’slikeaculinaryversionof“downward dog.” Plus, you’ll have a delicious reward waiting for you with every successful rep.

Senorita Salsa Strut:

What’s a fitness article without a dance workout? The Senorita Salsa Strut is your secret weapon to a tighter tush and happier hips. Just head to the nearest beachside salsa fiesta, shake what your mama gave you, and watch as the local beachgoers applaud your newfound moves –and your excellent taste in music.

So there you have it, amigos y amigas – the uproarious and eccentric guide to maintaining peak fitness at the ripe age of 45 and beyond while living la vida loca on the Costa del Sol. The Paw-tential Benefits of Canine Colleagues at the Office

In recent years, an increasing number of companies around Europe have embraced a unique and furry trend – welcoming canine colleagues into the workplace. Beyond being adorable additions to the office, these fourlegged companions offer a range of benefits that go beyond mere cuteness. Dog-friendly policies have proven to have a positive impact on company culture, the employee experience, recruitment, and retention. Let’s explore some compelling statistics that showcase the “paw-tential” benefits of having dogs at work.

Stress Reduction and Improved Well-being:

Studies have consistently shown that spending time with dogs can reduce stress and promote feelings of relaxation and well-being. A research study conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University found that having dogs in the workplace led to lower stress levels among employees, thereby improving overall job satisfaction. The simple act of petting a dog releases oxytocin, a hormone associated with bonding and stress relief, creating a calming and positive atmosphere within the office.

Enhanced Workplace Morale and Collaboration:

Dogs have an uncanny ability to bring people together. Having canine colleagues at work encourages social interaction and breaks down barriers between employees. A study published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health revealed that workplaces with dogs experienced improved communication and collaboration among team members. The presence of a dog acts as a natural icebreaker, fostering a more cohesive and supportive work environment.

Increased Productivity and Creativity:

Contrary to what one might think, having dogs at work can boost productivity. A survey conducted by Banfield Pet Hospital found that 82% of employees felt more motivated to work in a dog-friendly environment. The occasional doggy break allows employees to recharge their minds, leading to increased focus and creativity. Additionally, walking or playing with dogs during breaks encourages physical activity, which can also contribute to improved concentration and problem-solving skills.

Attraction of Top Talent:

A dog-friendly policy can be a significant draw for potential employees, especially among younger generations. According to a survey by Purina, 57% of millennials and 47% of Gen Xers said they would consider a job offer more strongly if the company allowed dogs at work. As the workforce continues to evolve, companies must adapt their policies to attract and retain the best talent. Offering a pet-friendly environment is a unique and appealing perk that can set a company apart from its competitors.

Enhanced Employee Retention:

Employees who have the option to bring their dogs to work are more likely to stay with a company for the long term. A study published in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management found that pet-friendly policies positively influenced employee retention rates. When employees can bring their furry friends to the office, they experience a greater sense of work-life balance, leading to higher job satisfaction and loyalty.

The“paw-tential”benefitsofcaninecolleaguesat work are truly remarkable. From reducing stress and enhancing workplace morale to attracting top talent and improving employee retention, the presence of dogs in the office offers a myriad of advantages. Companies willing to embrace this unique trend not only create a more inviting and enjoyable work environment but also foster a sense of community and well-being among their workforce. So, if you’re looking to boost productivity and create a positive work culture, consider opening your doors to our loyal and lovable canine companions!

Literal Translation

Spanish Sayings Translated to English!

Ser Pan Comido!

As with most languages, Spanish really does love to bring food into the mix. Literally translated, the funny Spanish phrase “ser pan comido” actually doesn’t mean much of anything. It’s just “bread to be eaten”.

But, the purpose of the expression is to say that something is easy to do. In English we like to say that something is “a piece of cake” and in Spanish you would say “ser pan comido”.

For Example:

El trabajo es pan comido. The job is a piece of cake.

Estudiar español es pan comido. Studying Spanish is a piece of cake.

Con tu experiencia, la caminata será pan comido. With your experience, the hike will be a piece of cake.
