Page 8 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE Invest Like a Farmer - From Crop to Cash, plant the seeds of financial growth Today, while going through my screenshots I came across this beautiful yet thoughtful image, which made me think about how this can relate to INVESTING. Costalink Private Wealth Expert Kasie Della-Rumball.

While talking about investments we say PATIENCE is the key to success in the long term and who can teach PATIENCE better than a farmer. So While investing keep it simple and THINK LIKE A FARMER

• We must adopt a growth mindset and focus on nurturing our financial health to reap the benefits.

• We must think like a farmer, not hot-headed harvesters, not shout at the stock market or blame the economy for not growing fast enough it’s like scolding a tomato plant for not producing fruit overnight.

• We must focus on understanding the cycles and trends, and remain patient as your financial investments grow over time. Just like crops, it takes time, effort, and dedication to see growth in your finances, so relax and let it bloom.

• We must choose the best financial instruments for financial goals and risk tolerance. Invest in a diversified portfolio, just like how a farmer chooses crops that thrive in their soil type.

• We must irrigate and fertilise investments regularly by regularly reviewing and rebalancing your portfolio, and don’t be afraid to seek professional advice.

• We must remove the weeds, or in other words, avoid financial pitfalls such as high-interest debt, unnecessaryexpenses, andimpulsivepurchases. Instead, focus on reducing debt, creating a budget, and saving for the future.

• We must remember, you will have good seasons and bad seasons in markets, just like in agriculture, you can’t control the weather, only be prepared for it. Build an emergency fund, and don’t panic during market downturns.

In conclusion, by thinking like a farmer and using these tips, you can turn finance into a garden of opportunities. Nurture your financial health, choose wisely, remove the weeds, and stay prepared for the seasons to come.

Trim Home Energy Bills: Practical Tips for Expats on the Costa del Sol

After settling the mortgage, expats living on the picturesque Costa del Sol often find that utility expenses, particularly those related to electricity usage, form a substantial portion of their monthly budget.

Whether you’re enjoying the sun-soaked beaches or relishing the vibrant local culture, managing energy costs effectively is essential. From small adjustments to more significant investments, this article will guide you through various strategies to reduce your energy bills without compromising on your comfort. By incorporating these practices into your daily routine and exploring sustainable options, you can make a positive impact on both your wallet and the environment.

Page 12 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

1. Embrace Energy-Efficient Habits

Simple changes in daily routines can lead to significant energy savings over time. Turning off lights when not in use, unplugging devices that aren’t actively charging, and using natural light during the day can collectively lower your electricity consumption. For the Costa del Sol’s temperate climate, consider using fans instead of air conditioning during milder months to maintain a comfortable indoor environment without the hefty energy costs.

2. Explore Energy Comparison Sites

To ensure you’re getting the best energy deals, it’s advisable to explore energy comparison websitestailoredtotheSpanishmarket.Websites like “ComparaTarifasEnergia.es” and “Rastreator. com” allow you to compare various energy providers, plans, and rates to find the most costeffective option for your household’s energy needs. Regularly reviewing and switching energy providers can potentially lead to substantial savings over time.

3. Harness the Power of Solar Panels:

Installing solar panels is a proactive step towards reducing your reliance on traditional energy sources and curbing energy expenses.

The Costa del Sol’s abundant sunlight makes it an ideal location for solar energy generation. By harnessing the power of the sun, you can generate clean and sustainable electricity for your home. Solar panels not only decrease your carbon footprint but also offer long-term financial benefits. While the initial investment might seem significant, the savings on your energy bills and potential government incentives make solar panels a smart choice in the long run.

4. Opt for Energy-Efficient Appliances:

When it’s time to replace or upgrade household appliances, prioritise energy efficiency. Look for appliances with the “A+++” energy label, indicating the highest level of efficiency. Modern energy-efficient appliances consume less electricity, translating to lower energy bills. From refrigerators to washing machines, making mindful choices can lead to substantial savings over the appliance’s lifespan.

5. Seal and Insulate Your Home:

Ensuring your home is well-insulated and properly sealed prevents energy wastage. In the Costa del Sol’s warm climate, this means keeping the cool air indoors during summer and preventing heat loss in the cooler months. Seal any gaps in windows and doors, and consider adding insulation to your attic or walls if they lack proper coverage. These steps maintain a more consistent indoor temperature, reducing the need for excessive heating or cooling.

Managing and reducing energy bills as an expat on the Costa del Sol is a practical way to save money while contributing to a more sustainable lifestyle. By adopting energy efficient habits, exploring energy comparison sites, investing in solar panels, choosing energy-efficient appliances, and improving home insulation, you can make a noticeable difference in your monthly expenses. Start small, gradually incorporating these changes, and enjoy the benefits of a more energy conscious and cost effective lifestyle in this beautiful region.

Spanish Firsts and Inventions

The Beret

The traditional beret, or boina, is one of the oldest Spanish inventions. Dreamed up by shepherds hundreds of years ago in the Basque Country and surrounding area, this flat-crowned hat was developed to protect herders from the cold and rain that is common in the lush mountainous regions in the north of Spain. Throughout the years, the boina became a key element of the area’s regional dress w-traditionally blue in the Basque areas and red in Navarre- and today they continue to be worn by practical citizens and uniformed police officers alike.

Texas Halloween Investigation

There was a murder in Texas at Halloween, and the FBI were called in to investigate. Hitchcock, one of the officers, saw something written in blood on the wall. It looked like the number ‘7734’, but he was not sure; anyway, he took lots of pictures.

When Hitchcock got back to the lab he developed the film of the crime scene, but he still could not make any progress with the number. In the hope of inspiration, he took the sheaf of photographs

home and spread them on the dining room table. Just at that moment his 7 year old daughter Emma came in through the patio door opposite, and looked down at the photographs.

‘Why have you photographed hell?’, she asked, then Hitchcock saw that when held upside down, 7734 spelt: ‘hELL’.

Hallowe’en Celebrations:

In Spain, Halloween is still a relatively new celebration compared to other countries.

Traditionally, Spain has its own holiday around the same time on 1st November 2023, called “Dia de Todos los Santos” (All Saints’ Day), which is a more solemn occasion focused on honouring the deceased.

However, Halloween has been embraced by younger generations as a fun and spooky holiday, especially in urban areas and regions with a strong international influence.

The Costa del Sol, being a popular tourist destination with a significant expatriate community, is more likely to have Halloween celebrations compared to some other parts of Andalucia.

Areas like Marbella, Fuengirola, and Torremolinos might have events such as costume parties, themed decorations, and special Halloween menus at local restaurants and bars. The expatriate communities and international schools in these areas tend to celebrate Halloween more enthusiastically.

Look out for banners, posters and invitations, as well as Circus Acts and even a Zombie Beach Party…

Costalink Fitness Expert Matt Nuttall.

Boxing for fitness

Pop into any gym on the coast in this day and age and you´re sure to come across some form of boxing set up or equipment. The ever growing popularity of the sport is evident everywhere and gym´s have had to take note of what their customers want.

One of the biggest misconceptions surrounding boxing is that it is a sport entirely for profesional boxing athletes and that you have no place calling yourself a bóxer if you do not get punched in the face regularly.

That does not mean that you cannot take part in boxing training and take advantage of the endless benefits boxing training has to offer.

I have held pads for as long as I can remember. I’ve worked the mitts with professional boxers, kick-boxers, mixed martial artists, footballers, and various other athletes’. But more than this I have held the mitts for my regular every day clientele. These guys have been lawyers, barristers, judges, CEO’s of large companies, cleaners, chef’s, business owners, farmers, office workers and people from all walks of life.

I wanted to find out what it is that they love about boxing and why they continue to enjoy every session; I have an idea of what they will say because I would imagine I feel the same as them when I train in boxing.

I asked 10 of my clientele to describe to me just what it is that keeps them coming back for more and here’s what they had to say.

Page 28 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

Pad work is fun.

• Constantly striving to improve technique.

• Increases self-confidence.

• Gives an appreciation of their boxing hero’s.

• Some female clients have said they love that it is not expected of them.

• Great stress reliever.

• Having to think at the same time as working up a sweat.

• Hand eye co-ordination.

• Exhausting cardiovascular workout.

• Makes you feel strong and powerful.

• Very rewarding when you get combinations correct.

• Great fat burning workout.

• Total body workout with big emphasis on the core.

As you can see from the comments as well boxing being a great workout, there is a common theme surrounding the psychological aspect of the training. My clients tell me how this has a direct impact on other areas of their life, such as their marriage, their work life, their mobility and their energy levels.

If you have never thrown a punch before in your life I believe it is something you should definitely try, the benefits are obvious and are not just related to fitness. The response from my clientele shows that there are way more psychological benefits than there are physical.

Boxing is for everyone not just for professional athletes or people who want to fight. And as a side note to the comments from my clients I have to point out that 80 percent of the clients asked were female.

Some people have no wish to fight ever in their lives, and we would like to think that you would never need to. But it couldn’t do any harm to learn a few moves should the need ever arise. With regards to the fitness related benefits all I can say is you have to give it a try to understand and also appreciate how aerobically and anaerobically taxing it actually is.

A boxing session consisting of a dynamic warm up, and a good few rounds on the pads can typically burn in excess of 500Kcals in a 30 minute session.

Every guy I have ever taken on the pads will tell you about the first time they did it and how hard it was. Guys see the pads in front of them and want to smash the living daylights out of them, and I’m always more than happy to oblige. They want to show you just how hard they can hit, and they do, and I’m always impressed…..for the first 20 seconds or so until they ask the question I’ve been waiting for them to ask……’how much longer have we got’. They’ve gone hell for leather and unleashed the hounds of hell but forgotten one very important thing, they forgot to breathe!

And if you are concerned about the cost of boxing you needn’t be as you can get a good boxing workout on a punch bag which you could fashion yourself. I have even seen footage of people hitting a wall (with boxing gloves on of course), or just shadow boxing.

Its a form of expssion through movement which is both empowering and exhausting at the same time.

Get yourself gloved up and find out what all the fuss is about!

Understanding ‘Warning Strokes’: What to Expect if You Experience Stroke Symptoms, Even if They Disappear Page 32 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

Embracing Life on the Costa del Sol Yet Protecting Your Well-being Amidst the Sun and Sea

Imagine a picturesque morning by the azure waters, the sun’s golden rays kissing your skin, and the gentle sea breeze enveloping you in tranquillity. Life on the Costa del Sol is indeed a blessing, offering a lifestyle that many envy. As we bask in the beauty of this coastal haven, it’s vital to remember that our well-being is the true treasure that keeps us thriving.

Today, we’re here to discuss a topic that affects us all, regardless of age, background, or how often we’ve soaked up the sun on these sandy shores. We’re talking about “Warning Strokes,” a term that might sound unfamiliar but could hold the key to safeguarding our health and preserving the vibrant lives we cherish.

Understanding Warning Strokes: A Sneak Peek into the Subtle Danger

A “Warning Stroke” might seem puzzling, but its implications are far-reaching. Also known as a transient ischemic attack (TIA), it’s a crucial signal that our body sends us to indicate that something might be amiss within our intricate vascular system. During a TIA, blood flow to a part of the brain is briefly interrupted, often causing temporary symptoms that resemble a stroke. These can include sudden weakness in the limbs, difficulty speaking or understanding, vision disturbances, dizziness, or an unexplainable severe headache.

The catch? These symptoms can fade away within minutes or hours, leaving us feeling just as normal as that sun-drenched morning on the Costa del Sol. This fleeting nature can mislead us into thinking that everything is fine – but it’s a call to action that we must heed.

The Importance of Immediate Action

Living on the Costa del Sol, we’re accustomed to enjoying life’s pleasures without delay. But when it comes to our health, there’s no time to waste. If you or someone you’re with experiences even the slightest inkling of stroke symptoms, whether they fade or not, treating it as an emergency is non-negotiable.

Why? Because every second counts. A TIA is like an advance warning, a chance for us to address underlying issues before a full-blown stroke strikes. By seeking medical attention promptly, we can work to prevent irreversible damage and secure our future in this breathtaking paradise.

Rallying the Expat Community, Spreading Awareness, Saving Lives

Understanding “Warning Strokes” isn’t just an individual responsibility; it’s a collective effort that can strengthen our Costa del Sol expat community.Sharethisknowledgewithyourloved ones, your neighbours, and even the friendly faces you encounter at your favourite coastal cafes. By recognizing the signs and acting swiftly, we can empower each other to embrace our sunsoaked days for years to come.

Cherishing Every Sunrise

Life along the Costa del Sol is a gift – one that should be cherished in the healthiest way possible. Let’s vow to celebrate the sunrise not just by the water’s edge, but also by nurturing our bodies and minds. As we take in the panoramic views, let’s also remind ourselves that the true beauty lies in the well-lived days, surrounded by the vibrant community we hold dear.

Enjoy.

How to Bid Adios to Blackheads Without Baking Your Skin Under the Costa del Sol Sun

Soak Up the Sun, Not the Blackheads

Greetings, sun-soaked expats of the Costa del Sol! We understand the joys of living in a perpetual summer paradise, but let’s talk about those pesky intruders on your skin – blackheads. Fear not, for in this article, we’re diving into the art of bidding farewell to blackheads without cooking your skin in the process. Whether you’re sipping sangria by the beach or dancing the flamenco, we’ve got your skin covered!

Page 36 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

1. Hydration – Your Skin’s Best Friend Under the Sun

Picture this: your skin, a thirsty traveller, searching for an oasis. And that oasis is water. Staying hydrated is your first line of defence against blackheads. The Costa del Sol sun might make you feel like you’re auditioning for a baked chicken commercial, but your skin is not amused. Guzzle that agua like it’s the last piña colada at happy hour.

2. Cleanse Wisely, Oh Sun-Kissed Ones

Choosing a gentle cleanser is your golden ticket to clean, blackhead-free skin. Opt for a cleanser that doesn’t strip your skin’s natural oils, we want to keep those around for skin’s sake. And remember, over cleansing is like trying to scrub your way through an automated car wash - it’s not pretty and can lead to irritated skin.

3. Sunscreen – Your Knight in Shining Armour

We know you’re soaking up the Spanish sun like there’s no tomorrow, but sunscreen isn’t just for tourists. It’s your daily shield against the sun’s UV rays, which can exacerbate blackheads and lead to a not-so-beautiful battle. Look for a noncomedogenic sunscreen to avoid clogging pores – your skin deserves the royal treatment.

4. Exfoliation – The Flamenco of Skincare Moves

Gentle exfoliation is your dance partner in skincare flamenco. Regular exfoliation helps slough off dead skin cells and unclog those sneaky blackhead hideouts. But remember, moderation is key. Exfoliate like you’re doing a slow, sensuous dance – with grace and respect for your skin’s boundaries.

5. Zap Those Blackheads – The Sensible Way

Resisttheurgetoplaydermatologistandsqueeze your blackheads like you’re juicing oranges. Instead, opt for products containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These ingredients work their magic without the aftermath of red, angry skin. Your skin might not speak Spanish, but it sure appreciates the language of care.

6. Moisturize – Because Even Sunny Skin Needs TLC

Imagine dancing the night away without proper shoes – uncomfortable, right? Well, that’s your skin without moisturiser. Hydrated skin is happy skin, and happy skin is less prone to blackheads. Choose a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser to keep your skin dancing to the rhythm of your life.

7. Professional Tune-up – Visit to the Skincare Studio

Sometimes, your skin just needs a professional touch. Seek out a skilled esthetician or dermatologist for a cleansing facial or a deep poreextraction.Thinkofitasalittlesiestaforyour skin – a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation.

A Sun-Kissed Blackhead-Free Life Awaits

Living under the Costa del Sol sun is a dream, and your skin should be part of that dream –minus the blackhead drama. Remember, your skin is your lifelong partner in the Spanish sunsoaked adventure. Hydrate, cleanse, sunscreen, exfoliate, zap, moisturise, and pamper. With these tips in your beauty flamenco routine, you’ll be dancing your way to radiant, blackhead-free skin in no time. Olé to a sun-kissed life without blackheads!

Literal Translation

Spanish Sayings Translated to English! Ser Uña y Carne

This funny Spanish phrase could possibly be the oddest we’ve encountered yet. Not because of its eventual meaning, but because of the confusing translation and combination of words. Literally “Ser Uña y Carne” means “to be a nail and meat” or, if we’re generous, “the meat and bones”. If you can’t think of how these translations could possibly be interpreted – don’t worry! To use this expression properly, you must refer to people or things who are and have always been, incredibly close. Think of “Two peas in a pod“, “birds of a feather”, “bread and butter“ or even “hand in hand”.

Coastal Luxury:
to Relishing Fresh Lobster on the Costa del Sol
Savouring
A Guide

Unveiling the Delicacy of Lobster, Locally and Luxuriously

Nestled along the sun-kissed shores of the Costa del Sol, where azure waters meet golden sands, resides a culinary treasure that embodies elegance and indulgence: the renowned fresh lobster. With its delicate flavours and rich history, lobster has long been revered as a symbol of luxury dining. In this month’s culinary exploration, we delve into the world of lobster, revealing where to find it locally, the art of savouring it, and the myriad nutritional benefits it brings to your plate.

A Glimpse into Lobster’s Legacy: A Dive into History

Before we embark on our lobster journey along the Costa del Sol, let’s pause for a moment to reflect on the history of this maritime marvel. Lobsters were once considered sustenance for the less privileged, eventually transforming into a delicacy reserved for the elite. Today, the story continues as lobster remains an emblem of sophistication and culinary mastery.

Discovering Local Treasures: Sourcing Fresh Lobster

When it comes to indulging in fresh lobster, the Costa del Sol offers a plethora of options. Estepona, Marbella, and Fuengirola boast vibrant seafood markets where you can witness local fishermen unloading their catch of the day, including the coveted lobster. Don’t miss the opportunity to converse with these seasoned seafarers, gaining insights into the art of lobster harvesting and selecting the finest specimens for your feast.

Savouring the Symphony

Preparing and enjoying fresh lobster is a delicate dance of flavours and textures. Whether you opt for a classic buttery lobster tail or a Mediterranean-infused lobster paella, the Costa del Sol’s culinary scene caters to all preferences. For an authentic experience, sample traditional “Mariscada” – a seafood medley that often includes succulent lobster, paired with locallysourced vegetables and aromatic spices.

Nutritional Riches Beneath the Shell

Indulgence need not exclude health-conscious choices, and lobster effortlessly marries these two ideals. Here are five nutritional benefits of including lobster in your diet:

• Lean Protein Powerhouse: Lobster is remarkably low in fat and calories, making it an ideal protein source for maintaining a balanced diet.

• Vitamins and Minerals: Rich in essential nutrients like vitamin B12, selenium, and zinc, lobster contributes to overall immune system support and cellular health.

• Heart Health With its omega-3 fatty acids, lobster supports cardiovascular well-being by helping to reduce inflammation and maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

• Brain Boost: The omega-3s found in lobster are also associated with cognitive function enhancement, aiding in memory and concentration.

• Tissue Repair: The high-quality protein and abundance of essential amino acids found in lobster contribute to tissue repair and growth, making it an excellent choice for post-workout recovery.

Lobster as a Culinary Journey

As you savour each succulent morsel of lobster along the Costa del Sol, remember that the experience extends beyond the plate. It’s a culmination of history, culture, and coastal splendour that blends seamlessly with the culinary artistry that defines the region. Whether you choose a seaside bistro or an upscale restaurant, allow yourself to be transported by the symphony of flavours, textures, and stories that come together in every lobster dish.

Ajoblanco

Ajoblanco is a cold soup typical of Málaga, specifically of Almáchar. Every September, coinciding with the grape harvest, this municipality holds a festival in honour of this dish. For this reason, it is traditional to serve ajoblanco with grapes there. However, as it is a typical Andalusian dish it has many variations depending on the province. The ingredients that cannot be missing are breadcrumbs, almonds, garlic, olive oil, water and salt. Furthermore, it is said that ajoblanco is the ancestor of gazpacho, since its preparation comes from al-Andalus and gazpacho did not appear until the arrival of the tomato from America.

Page 44 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE

How to Cook Ajoblanco

Step By Step:

Step 1.

Soak the bread crumbs in water to soften. The crust can be taken away easier once it gets soaked in.

Step 2.

Introduce the garlic cloves, almonds, and drained breadcrumbs into the mixer.

Step 3.

Once a paste is obtained, add the oil and vinegar, and continue beating.

Step 4.

Once all the ingredients are well mixed, add salt andwater.Itmaybepossiblethatyoudonotneed to add 1 litre of water but a little less depending on the water that the bread has soaked in.

Step 5.

Let it cool down in the fridge as long as it needs, since the best way is to eat it cold.

Step 6.

Add the garnish (melon or grapes) just before serving.

Ingredients:

• 200 gr of raw and peeled almonds

• 2 cloves of garlic

• 200 gr of breadcrumbs, preferably a day or two days old

• 150 ml of extra virgin olive oil

• 50 ml of wine vinegar

• 1 litre of water

• Salt

• Garnish: melon or grapes

Strange But True

Yes, you read that right! It’s time to journey into the wild world of concrete creation, where China didn’t just build cities – they practically laid the foundation for the modern age!

Concrete Chronicles Begin: A Tale of Two Giants

Picture this: one side of the ring, weighing in at a modest 4.18 billion metric tons of cement production during the entire 20th century, is the United States – On the other side, strutting in with a casual nonchalance, is China – producing a staggering 6.6 billion metric tons of cement between 2011 and 2013 alone!

Unlocking Friendship: Small, Kind Gestures to Make a Big Impact Each Day on the Costa del Sol

Hola, expats of the Costa del Sol! So, you’ve unpacked your bags, settled into your new abode, and basked in the sun-drenched glory of the Mediterranean coast.

Page 52 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK
MAGAZINE

Life here is undoubtedly a paradise, but there might be a teensy, weensy hiccup, making friends seems harder than deciphering flamenco dance steps after a pitcher of sangria.

Fear not! We’re here to sprinkle a little kindness into your social life with a side of humour. Get ready to turn those friendly acquaintances into amigos-for-life with our guide to weaving small, kind gestures into your daily routine.

1. The Text Trail of Friendship

Remember that time your phone buzzed with a text message that wasn’t a bank statement or a remindertopayyourutilitybills?Yeah, wethought not. Be the person who brightens someone’s day with a simple “How’s your day going?” or a hilarious meme that made you snort-laugh during siesta time. The magic of texts is that they’re like virtual hugs, and who doesn’t need a good hug?

2. The Coffee Chronicles

CostadelSolrunsoncaféconleche, andchances are you’re already a regular at your local caffeine haven. But here’s a twist – when you’re at the counter, offer to pay for the next person’s coffee. You might be met with a surprised look that could be mistaken for a Spanish soap opera gasp, but the warmth of your gesture will be remembered long after the caffeine buzz fades.

3. Bus Buddy System

Public transportation can be a real-life telenovela – full of dramatic exits and near-misses. The next time you’re on the bus, channel your inner action hero and hold the bus for someone rushing to catch it. The look of relief on their face will be more heartwarming than a beach sunset.

4. The Language of Friendship

Speaking of sunsets, what about your language skills? Embrace the power of language exchange events. It’s like Tinder for linguistic minds. Whether you’re struggling to roll your Rs or your “hola” sounds more like “hole-in-the-wall,” these events bring together language enthusiasts from

around the globe, turning your feeble attempts at Spanish into a cacophony of laughter and learning.

5. Meetups and Mixers

Let’s be real – making friends as an adult is like trying to fold a fitted sheet: it’s hard, and nobody really knows how to do it. Enter: meetups and mixers. Whether you’re into hiking, salsa dancing, or discussing the nuances of paella, there’s a meetup for you. It’s like finding your social tribe without the drama of reality TV.

6. Classes: More Than Just Homework

Remember school, when the coolest thing was trading your sandwich for someone else’s fruit roll-up? Well, classes can still be cool – and a fantastic way to meet like-minded amigos. Whether it’s painting, cooking, or underwater basket weaving (okay, maybe not that last one), signing up for a class puts you in a room full of potential pals who already share an interest.

7. Playdates for Grown-Ups

If you’ve brought your mini-me’s along for the adventure, there’s a whole world of friendship awaiting your family. Arrange playdates for your kids – you’ll be surprised how quickly playground small talk can evolve into parent-pyjama-party potlucks.

So, there you have it, fellow expats! Making friends on the Costa del Sol isn’t about being the life of the fiesta or having a Rolodex of business cards; it’s about embracing the joy of small, kind gestures that create ripples of connection.

From the coffee shop to the language exchange event, these moments of warmth will not only brighten your day but might just light up someone else’s life too.

And who knows, that stranger you held the bus for might just become your new lifelong amigo, sharing stories of near-miss adventures and unforgettable sunsets.

5 Ways to Get Your Pet Ready for Autumn in the Costa Climate

While we humans might be excited about pumpkin spice lattes and snuggly sweaters, our pets might need a little extra help adapting to the changing weather. Don’t worry, though we’re here to guide you through “pawsitively” delightful ways to get your pet ready for the fall season. Let’s dive right in!

1. Fur-tastic Grooming:

Just like we shed our summer skin, our pets might shed their summer coats. Regular brushing not only keeps their fur in tip-top shape but also helpsremoveanyloosehairthatmightotherwise end up on your favourite sweater. Plus, who can resist those adorable little “zoomies” your pet does after a good grooming session? It’s like they’re showing off their freshly polished coats!

Page 56 | www.costalinkmagazine.com COSTALINK MAGAZINE
As the leaves begin to change and a chill starts to creep into the evening air, it’s time to prepare our furry companions for the cosy season of autumn.

2. The Great Outdoors Redux:

Autumn is the perfect time for leisurely strolls with your four-legged friend. The cooler temperatures make outdoor activities much more enjoyable for both of you. Take in the breathtaking mountain walks, let your pet frolic in the fallen foliage (supervised, of course), and perhaps even plan a weekend hiking adventure. Just remember, there’s nothing quite like the sight of a dog in a tiny autumn sweater, talk about a fashion statement!

3. Cozy Nooks and Crannies:

As the temperature drops, your pet might start seeking out warm and snug spots to curl up in. Why not create a cosy nook for them? Fill a corner with soft blankets, cushions, and maybe even a heated pet bed. It’ll be their very own autumn retreat, perfect for lounging around and watching the world transform outside. Bonus points if you can convince your cat that the pile of leaves outside is not a playground!

4. Flavours for Foodies:

Autumn is synonymous with delicious treats, and your pet shouldn’t be left out of the fun. While you might indulge with some stews or pies, your pet can enjoy some autumn-inspired treats too. Just be sure to consult your veterinarian before

introducing any new foods to their diet. And remember, if your dog suddenly develops a taste for acorns, it’s best to redirect their gourmet preferences!

5. Wardrobe Wonders:

While not all pets appreciate the sartorial arts, some can rock a stylish ensemble with panache. As the temperatures drop, consider outfitting your pet with a cute sweater or jacket. Not only will they look adorable, but it’ll also keep them warm during those brisk sundowner evening walks. And who knows, maybe your pet will start a trend in the neighbourhood the “bark-chic” look is definitely in!

As we bid adieu to summer and welcome the autumn season, these tips will ensure that your pet is well-prepared and ready to embrace the autumnal charm. Remember, every pet is unique, so be sure to tailor your approach to their individual preferences and needs. With a bit of grooming, a dash of outdoor fun, some cosy comfort, yummy treats, and perhaps a touch of fashion flair, your pet will be all set to enjoy the splendours of our Costa.

Happy autumn, fur-iends!
