A Woman’s World

My Man Is Missing…

A wife went to the police station with her neighbour to report that her husband was missing. The policeman asked for a description. She said, ‘He is 35 years old, 6 feet tall, has dark eyes, dark wavy hair, an athletic build, weighs 13 stone, is softly spoken and is good with the children.’ The neighbor protested, ‘Your husband is 5 feet tall, chubby, bald, has a big loud mouth and is hopeless with your kids.’ The wife replied very quickly, ‘Yes, but who wants HIM back?’

Getting Your Hopes Up…

An angry wife is on the telephone to her husband and says, ‘Where are you?’ The husband replies, ‘Darling, remember that jewellery shop where you saw that amazing diamond necklace and totally fell in love with it, but I didn’t have enough money to buy it at the time?’ The wife blushes and with a big smile says….. ‘Yes, I remember that, my love!’ ‘Well, I’m in the pub next door with my mates.’

MY WIFE AND I ALWAYS COMPROMISE, I ADMIT I’M WRONG AND SHE AGREES.

SHERLOCK'S DARK TIMES AHEAD... It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, not Christmas that has been and gone! Brand new Sherlock arrives this month… Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and the rest of the gang will be back for the hugely anticipated fourth series, it promises to be a moody and dark affair. Sherlock's return with 'The Six Thatchers' on January 1st, followed by two more episode on the 8th ‘The Lying Dectective” and on the 15th ‘The Final Problem’. WILL MARK & MICHELLE’S MARRIAGE LAST? Ever since she got

married to Mark Wright in May 2015, Michelle Keegan has rarely slept under the same roof as her husband. And it seems that those occasions are set to be even less frequent in the coming year. Lets face it; it is hard enough to keep a marriage going even if both parties are together. While the actress tries to take some relaxing time out before what’s set to be the busiest year of her life, nobody can blame her for worrying about what the future holds. After all, even her most die-hard fans are now commenting on the way she and Mark seem to lead separate lives. As she looks back over the past year, Michelle can do so with pride and happiness. Just don’t ask her about the future…

KIERAN TELLS KATIE: ‘Our marriage is a business arrangement!’ It’s been

another 12 months of huge ups and downs for Katie Price and, unsurprisingly, it looks as though the drama for her and husband Kieran Hayler will continue well into 2017. Kieran’s marriage to Katie doesn’t quite seem to have recovered from his affairs with her two best friends. She’s even admitted: ‘I’ll never forgive. I’ve learnt to deal with it, but you can’t forget.’ We can’t help wondering if Katie will begin 2017 shopping for a new divorce lawyer…

Watch out for The Good Fight… It’s really happening: The world is going to get more Diane Lockhart in her own The Good Wife spinoff titled The Good Fight. After months of speculation the show will debut on CBS in the US on February 19th at 8 p.m. There is a possibility Julianna Margulies once again be Alicia Florrick for the series. Also back are David Lee, Lucca Quinn and Marissa Gold (Eli Gold’s Daughter). Confirmed newbies to The Good Fight world include Game of Thrones' Rose Leslie as Maia, Diane's goddaughter, Justin Bartha as Colin, a love interest for Lucca, and Delroy Lindo as Robert Boseman. The plot is as follows: Things pick up for Diane Lockhart a year after she parted ways with Alicia Florrick. A financial scam destroys Maia's reputation and wipes out Diane's savings. Lindo's Robert Boseman begins poaching Diane's associates and clients after the financial troubles hit. Diane is forced out of Lockhart & Lee and forced to join Lucca Quinn at a new pre-eminent law firm. Ooooooo roll on February! MARC ANTHONY’S ROMANCE WITH J.LO... Marc Anthony divorced and back out on the dating scene. In fact, he’s already been caught running back to his ex-wife Jennifer Lopez! Apparently the pair have been sharing secret hot date nights at each other's homes. We will have to see how that one pan’s out!

William Shakespeare

Words We Owe to

No high school English curriculum is complete without a mandatory dose of William Shakespeare. As contemporary speakers of the English language, however, you might be interested to learn how much the bard of Avon had in common with the generations that popularised the acronyms LOL and OMG and reinvented the 1940’s slang term “hipster.” Endlessly imaginative and not overly concerned with grammatical convention, Shakespeare’s scripts contain over 2200 never-before-seen words. Here are 15 examples of words we can thank Shakespeare for.

1) ADDICTION: OTHELLO, ACT II, SCENE II - If not for that noble and valiant general and his playwright, our celebrity news coverage might be sorely lacking.

2) ARCH-VILLAIN: TIMON OF ATHENS, ACT V, SCENE I - With the added

prefix of arch-, meaning more extreme than others of the same type, Shakespeare was able to distinguish the baddest of the bad.

3) ASSASSINATION: MACBETH, ACT I, SCENE VII - Though the term “assassin” had been observed in use prior to the Scottish play, it seems apt that the work introduced yet another term for murder most foul.

4) BEDAZZLED: THE TAMING OF THE SHREW, ACT IV, SCENE V - A word

first used to describe the particular gleam of sunlight is now used to sell rhinestone embellished jeans. Maybe poetry really is dead.

5) BELONGINGS: MEASURE FOR MEASURE, ACT I, SCENE I - People prior to Shakespeare’s time did own things apparently.

6) COLD-BLOODED: KING JOHN, ACT III, SCENE I - Beyond its literal meaning, the 17th century play initiated a metaphorical use for the term that is now most often used to describe serial killers or people without emotion or pity.

The New Year is upon us, and as you read this you will have probably broken many of the resolutions you meant to keep from the 1st of the month! But it’s not too late… Take a step back re-evaluate what you want out of the next year. If you follow our guide we give you a bit of help and lets face it you’ll need all the help you can get.

New Y e resolutaior’s ns

& how to achieve them 1) Get in shape

Losing weight is the top resolution for most people, and combined with “exercise more” and “stay fit and healthy” it is something that about a third of people wish to achieve. It’s easy enough to start an exercise and diet program, but the trick is to find a decent one that will give you steady results and will be easy to stick to in the long run. Why not use your mobile as a fitness tool so you can track your progress.

2) Eat healthier & less

Eat healthier food, and less food overall: This is usually a follow on form the first resolution… Changing to a healthier diet can be incredibly tricky. However, with a good amount of determination and some basic tips you can slowly develop healthier eating habits. Learn to control emotional eating, be aware why dieting has failed for you in the past, try to find healthy recipes which you enjoy then you’ll be more likely to change your eating habits.

3) Stop procrastinating

18

The biggest barrier that keeps most people from reaching their goals is the desire to relax and do something fun instead of working hard. Once you get used to procrastinating it’s difficult to snap yourself out of it, so you’ll need to put in a lot of work to change this bad habit. Here are a few quick tips: Get up and move, setup yourself reminder, get help from a friend and last but defiantly not least make yourself accountable.

January 2017 Costa Link Magazine.qxp_Editorial Layout 22/12/16 10:11 am Page 19

4) Meet new people

When we get stuck in a rut, we usually end up staying at home most of the time, missing out on a lot of interesting opportunities for networking and having fun. Meeting new people can be beneficial to your mental well-being and help your career, so don’t be afraid to get out there and make some friends. Overcome your shyness, get some knowledge and go and get to know new and interesting people.

5) Become more confident

If you are confident other people notice it, and it is much easier to have your opinions heard, ask people out on dates and get ahead at work. A good dose of self-confidence will help you lead a much happier life overall. But not many people realise that their self-confidence works just like a muscle it grows in response to the level of performance required of it. Either you use it or you lose it. Try and do one thing each day that makes you smile (on the inside or on the outside).

6) Earn more money

Even billionaires are always looking for ways to earn more money, and we common folk can definitely use an additional source of income to make life a bit more comfortable. There are plenty of options available, like having sidejobs, working as a freelancer or using the internet to your advantage – get a blog or use You tube to your advantage!

7) More quality time

There is just too little time in this life for us to waste it on insincere nasty people. We should focus on the people who we care about deeply and who care about us, as this is the best way to stay happy.

8) Save money

Once you have your debt under control, it’s time to start putting some money aside. A rainy day fund and some extra money that can go towards traveling abroad, fixing up the house or buying a new car are a welcome change of pace. Make use mobile apps to save money efficiently.

9) Get organised

It doesn’t matter how much time you have on your hands if you can’t manage it properly you’ll just spend most of the day running around aimlessly. When you get organised there will suddenly be more time to spare and things will start falling into place. Make it a habit, get help from a app then enjoy your newly found leisure-time.

William Shakespeare

Words We Owe to

7) DISHEARTEN: HENRY V, ACT IV, SCENE I - The opposite of “hearten,” a word already extant at the time of Shakespeare’s writing, “dishearten” was most appropriately first utilised in print by King Henry V, who didn’t let insurmountable odds at the battle of Agincourt get him down. 8) EVENTFUL: AS YOU LIKE IT, ACT II, SCENE VII - If all the world’s a stage, it’s safe to assume that an event or two is taking place. 9) EYEBALL: THE TEMPEST, ACT I, SCENE II - Shakespeare’s protagonist Prospero, though no medical doctor, can claim to be the first fictional character to name those round objects with which we see.

10) FASHIONABLE: ATROILUS & CRESSIDA, ACT III, SCENE III - And with just 11 letters, centuries of debate over what’s hot or not began.

11) MANAGER: A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAMT, ACT V, SCENE I - If not for Shakespeare, workday complaining in the office just wouldn’t be the same.

12) NEW-FANGLED: LOVE’S LABOUR’S LOST, ACT I, SCENE I - Ironically,

this word sounds old-fashioned if used today.

13) SCUFFLE: ANTONY & CLEOPATRA, ACT I, SCENE I - Another example of an existing verb that Shakespeare decided could stand up just as well as a noun.

14) SWAGGER: HENRY V, ACT II, SCENE IV - By transitive property,

Shakespeare is responsible for Justin Bieber’s “swag.” 15) UNCOMFORTABLE: ROMEO AND JULIET, ACT IV, SCENE V Un- was another prefix Shakespeare appended to adjectives with a liberal hand. In the case of Romeo and Juliet, a tragedy in which a father mourns his daughter’s suicide, “uncomfortable” seems to have originated with a slightly more drastic sense than how we use it now.

An unexpected journey...

Jim and Dave were working on aircraft at Malaga airport. They had got fogged in and had finished working their shift very early and were sitting around bored. Jim spoke up, “Man I really could do with a drink!” “You know I heard a rumour you could drink jet fuel and get drunk.” Dave said.“Really?” said Jim. “That’s what I heard. Wanna try it?” “Sure, I’ll try anything once!” So with that they poured themselves a couple of shots and began drinking the jet fuel. They sipped a little bit to find it actually tasted quiet good. So they drank more and more and sure enough they got blind drunk. The next morning Jim awoke feeling like new man, he jumped up went to the bathroom feeling great like he was floating on air he hadn’t felt this good in years. “Wow!” He said. About that time Jim’s telephone rang… “Hello?” “Hello Jim, this is Dave. How are you feeling this morning?” “Man I feel great, no hang over, no sick, I feel like a million dollars. How about you?” “Me too, but I have one question for you.” “Sure, what is it”? “Have you farted yet?” “Ummmmm, No.” said Jim, “Why?” “DON’T. I’m in Madrid!”

A man walks into a bar with his pet monkey. He orders a drink and sits down whilst he is drinking, the monkey starts jumping around all over the place. The monkey grabs some olives from the bar and eats them. Then he grabs the sliced lemons & eats them, and then to everyone’s amazement he jumps onto the pool table, grabs one of the pool balls, sticks it in his mouth and somehow swallows it whole. The bartender screams at the man, "Did you see what your monkey just did?" "No, what?" "He just ate the cue ball off my pool table WHOLE" "Yeah, that doesn't surprise me, "replied the man, "he eats everything in sight, the little tike. Sorry I'll pay for the cue ball and stuff." He finishes his drink, pays his bill, and pays for all the things the monkey ate, then leaves. Two weeks later he's in the bar again, and has his monkey with him. He orders a drink and the monkey starts running around the bar again. While the man is finishing his drink, the monkey finds a maraschino cherry on the bar. He grabs it, sticks it up his bum, pulls it out, and eats it. Then the monkey finds a peanut, and again sticks it up his bum, pulls it out, and eats it. The bartender is disgusted. "Did you see what your monkey did now?" he says. "No, what?" replied the man. "Well, he stuck a maraschino cherry and a peanut up his bottom, pulled it out, and ate it!" said the bartender. "Yeah, that doesn't surprise me," replied the man. "He still eats everything in sight, but ever since he had to pass that cue ball, he measures everything first."

All the latest in the world of tech and gaming... We don’t know too much about the Microsoft XBox Scorpio to use its codename, which is due out later this year but it is going to be a monster gaming machine, with a processor 25% faster than the PS4 Pro with full 4k rather than up scaling and proper VR rather thank the conversions that we are now used to. This is one (or TWO) to wait for!

FUNDRAISING APPEAL for local photographer

David Toms Friends of well-known Marbella photographer, David Toms, have launched a Support Fund to help finance his rehabilitation and long term goals following a tragic traffic accident. More than just a highly talented photographer, David Toms is a person who has touched a great many people’s lives, from the brides whose special moments he captured to his clients, colleagues and a wide circle of friends here on the Costa del Sol and abroad - and they are rallying around him in support of the person who added colour and humanity to their lives. David is on the long road of physical recuperation but the freak accident has left him with severe injury to the C3, C4 and C5 vertebrae of the spine, as well as broken bones and major neurological damage to the body. As is often the case with spinal injuries, it is hard to know at this point how much movement and independence David will regain, but he is quadriplegic and will need long-term care and rehabilitation. We must remain hopeful for the future as miracles do happen and modern medicine is making great advances, but for the moment the reality is that David will need ongoing care for a long time to come, as well as a specially adapted home, and for this he needs the support of us, his friends and colleagues in Marbella.

A Man’s World

A NEW WAY OF THINKING...

Two married friends are out drinking one night when one turns to the other and says, “You know, I don't know what else to do. Whenever I go home after we've been out drinking I turn the headlights off before I get to the driveway. I shut off the engine and coast into the garage. I take my shoes off before I go into the house, I sneak up the stairs, I get undressed in the bathroom, I ease into bed and my wife STILL wakes up and yells at me for staying out so late!” His mate looks at him and says, “Well, you're obviously taking the wrong approach. I screech into the driveway, slam the door, storm up the steps, throw my shoes into the closet, jump into bed, rub my hands on my wife's bum and say, ‘How about a bit of the other darlin?...’ and she's always sound asleep.

WOMEN, THEY ONLY WANT ONE THING!

When the man first noticed that his penis was growing longer, he was delighted. But several weeks and several inches later, he became concerned and went to see a urologist. While his wife waited outside, the physician examined him and explained that, thought rare his condition could be corrected by minor surgery. The patient's wife anxiously rushed up to the doctor after the examination and was told of the diagnosis and the need for surgery. "How long will he be on crutches?" she asked. "Crutches???" the doctor asked. "Well, yes," the woman said "You are going to lengthen his legs, aren't you?"

Medical Mayhem

A Wallet Extraction:

Dentist to Patient: To extract your tooth will cost you €600. Patient: WHAT!!?!? €600 for just a few minutes work? Dentist: Well, I can extract it slowly if you like?

A Routine Checkup:

After going to the hospital for what he thought was merely a routine checkup, a man was devastated to learn that he had the rare deadly disease B55. The doctor told him that he had just one week to live. Determined to make the most of his final week of life, he decided to fit in as many activities as possible, including taking his wife out to the bingo one evening. There, he entered the prize draw game. First, he got one line and won fifteen thousand euro’s; then he got two lines and won a car; and finally he got a full house and won a holiday for two in the Maldives. At the end of the round, the bingo caller went over to him and said; ‘you must be the luckiest man in the world! You have won fifteen thousand euro’s, a car and a fantastic luxury holiday in just the one game!’ ‘I’m not that lucky,’ replied the man. ‘I’ve got B55.’ The bingo caller’s face turned to shock and he said; ‘you lucky bugger! You’ve won the raffle as well!’

A Trip to the Doctor:

A woman returns from her visit to the doctors and tells he husband, ‘The doctor recommended that I spend one month at sea, two weeks in the countryside and go abroad for a week. Where are you taking me first?’ ‘To another doctor,’ replies the husband.

HOW TO BRUSH YOUR TEETH (PART ONE)...

Are you doing it right? Brushing your teeth is not just for a whiter smile and fresher breath, it's critical for your overall health. When you brush, you remove plaque a thin film of bacteria that sticks to your teeth and will create cavities, gum disease, and if you ignore it long enough, will cause your teeth to fall out! You know why to brush, but if you would like to learn how to brush your teeth efficiently, these suggestions will help.

1) UsE A gOOD TOOThbRUsh...

Choose a toothbrush with soft nylon bristles. This must effectively remove plaque and debris from your teeth, without irritating the gums or eroding tooth enamel like hard-bristled brushes can do when used with sideways action. The toothbrush should also fit comfortably in your hand, and have a head small enough to easily reach all of your teeth, especially the ones at the back. If you have difficulty fitting the toothbrush into your mouth, it is probably too big. ◦ Electric toothbrushes are a great choice if you are a lazy brusher and think that the electric toothbrush might encourage you to spend more time on your teeth; however, you can do just as good of a job with a manual toothbrush — it's all in the technique.

◦ One good method is to brush with a manual toothbrush in the morning and use an electric toothbrush at night. You should definitely avoid toothbrushes with "natural" bristles made from animal hair as these can harbor bacteria and must be replaced more frequently.

2) REplACE YOUR TOOThbRUsh REgUlARlY... The bristles will wear out over time, losing their flexibility and effectiveness. You should purchase a new toothbrush every three to four months, or as soon as the bristles start to splay out and lose their shape. Visual inspection of the toothbrush is more important than the actual timeline. You can also buy toothbrushes whose handles will change color when it's time to purchase a new toothbrush. • Research has found that thousands of microbes call • Always rinse your brush after using it, and store it toothbrush bristles and handles "home," and can cause upright and uncovered so that it can dry before your next infections. use. Otherwise bacteria will grow. • At about three months, bristles become sharp due to friction and can cause your gums to bleed.

3) UsE A flUORIDE TOOThpAsTE... It not only helps remove plaque, but it also helps strengthen tooth enamel. It's important to note that fluoride toothpaste is not to be swallowed, as ingesting too much can have serious health consequences. It should not be used for children under the age of three. You can get toothpaste to target a wide variety of dental and gum problems, including cavities, tartar, sensitive teeth and gums, gingivitis and stained teeth. Opt for the one that suits your best or ask your dentist or hygienist for advice.

4) UsE DEnTAl flOss Flossing your teeth is just as important as brushing, as it removes built up plaque, bacteria and food particles that get trapped between the teeth, which soft floppy toothbrush bristles can't reach even when used with up/down natural motion. You should always floss before brushing your teeth so that any food or bacteria that comes loose during flossing doesn't remain in your mouth. • Remember to floss gently. Don't "snap" the floss If you find dental floss awkward to use, or you have between the teeth as this can irritate sensitive gums. braces, look for dental picks instead. These are small Ease it down gently, following the curve of each tooth. wooden or plastic sticks, which you can insert between teeth, achieving the same results as flossing if spaces are large enough.

FOODS WITH SECRET BEAUTY POWERS...

When it comes to food and health we’ve all heard the old adage ‘eat less, move more’, but did you know that what you eat could turn back the beauty clock, prevent sun damage and even counteract eczema? So what about the ‘must-eat’ list of beauty superfoods? Read, and munch, on… •TOMATOES ARE ANTI-AGEING

Our salad friends are rich in lycopene, a bright red pigment bursting with antioxidant properties. Eat enough and you could help protect your skin against environmental ageing. A study conducted at the Universities of Newcastle and Manchester that shows that eating five tablespoons of tomato paste a day for 12 weeks could protect you against sunburn – if you can stomach it!

•CARROTS BRIGHTEN COMPLEXION

Any vegetable with a bright or strong colour will be high in antioxidant pigments that help to combat free radicals unstable molecules our bodies produce. The more you eat the better, especially as this also leads to happier bowels, which translate to a fresher complexion. Peppers, strawberries, broccoli and blueberries all have the same effect.

•RASPBERRIES PREVENT SUN DAMAGE

Berries in general, but particularly raspberries, are rich in ellagic acid, which helps to protect us against UV damage and also the signs of ageing. ‘Eat a decent bowlful several times a week,’ Star Khechara advises. ‘Put them in smoothies or on cereal, and also buy them frozen.’ Pomegranate has the same effect.

•RED GRAPES TURN BACK TIME

These contain the anti-ageing antioxidant resveratrol, a compound that has really powerful beneficial effects for the skin and whole body. It stops them from decaying and ageing.

•OILY FISH COUNTERACTS DRY SKIN

Salmon, sardines and mackerel all contain essential omega-3 fatty acids, which our body needs, but can’t make by itself. While we tend to think of such acids as ‘brain food’ they are also vital for great skin. Two portions of oily fish a week should do the trick.

50

•EGGS BOOST STRONGER HAIR & SKIN

Eggs are a great source of protein, which your skin needs for building collagen, helping it to look firm and youthful. It’s also essential for the formation of strong hair. And the good news is that you can now crack open as many as you like with new research showing that eggs don’t in fact raise cholesterol levels, shattering previous thinking.

•AVOCADOES HELP YOU GLOW

These tasty green pears are really rich in Vitamin E and essential fats, helping our skin to stay supple and complexions glowing with health.

•MANGOES HELP TO BATTLE ECZEMA

This tropical fruit doesn’t only taste great it’s also one of the richest food sources of beta-carotene an antioxidant that’s also a precursor to the formation of Vitamin A.

•LEAFY GREENS RE-BALANCE THE BODY

Most of us now eat a diet that’s very high in acid due to the presence of processed foods, so eating something to counter or buffer this can be really powerful. Greens such as watercress, spinach and kale are nature’s secret calming ingredient and a rich source of alkaline minerals plus they’re also high in magnesium and calcium so good for bones.

•COCONUT KEEPS SKIN LUBRICATED

One of Star Khechara’s personal favourite foods, coconut contains lauric acid which helps keep our bodies balanced and skin to retain water. You can eat it raw, shredded, as milk or even oil.

•NETTLE TEA IS GREAT FOR STRONG NAILS

Knock back three cups of this a day and your talons will be thanking you. Nettle tea is one of the richest sources of silica, what experts describe as THE beauty mineral because it leads to strong, healthy nails and strong, lustrous tresses. A good tip is to add honey for a little sweetness.

NEW FOR 2017...

2016 was a great year for new cars, with models like the Ford Focus RS, Fiat 124 Spider and Aston Martin DB11 all going on sale. Thankfully, it looks like 2017 is set to be even better; we take a look at some of the cars we're looking forward to in the year ahead. While Kia is known for producing reliable, stylish family cars, this year will see a new rear-wheel-drive four-door GT coupe. With 260bhp from a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine.

After a near-20-year absence, Alpine will be brought back by parent company Renault this year, with a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine mounted in the middle of the car, with Renault promising around 250bhp and 0-100 kph in 4.5 seconds. Opel is planning a new-look Insignia for the end of this year, the family car will get a coupe-like design with a long, sloping roofline and striking new features The Land Rover Discovery has built up a loyal following, however, the new Mk5 car takes things upmarket with a more luxurious finish inside and out and comes with a four or six-cylinder diesel engine plus a V6 petrol. Inside there’s seating for seven, plus loads of new tech, including nine USB ports and Wi-Fi connectivity. Alfa Romeo will be introducing the Stelvio, the first SUV in the company’s 100-year history with an eight-speed auto box and 2.2-litre diesel engine.

Cover with cling film, pierce, then microwave on High for 4-5 mins until cooked through. Drain the veg, then mix with the hot dressing and cooking juices from the fish. Serve the fish on top of the vegetables.

STAR WARS: THE DEATH STAR’S HORRIFIC ELECTRICITY BILLS… Professor Alexander Its planet-destroying laser is scary, but its mathematics Barnett. A few of the highlighted lineenergy bills are truly terrifying. The British energy supplier Ovo has put items include about $52 billion per day for some very well-spent hours into a com- lighting, and $200 million per round of prehensive calculation of the operating laundry. costs of the Death Star, which will return to the spotlight in the December 16th movie Rogue One. They conclude that operating the planet-destroying starbase would cost 6.2 octillion British pounds, or $7.8 octillion, per day that’s $7,800,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000.

To put that absurdly large number in perspective, $7.8 octillion is more than 100 trillion times the $70 trillion annual global economic activity of Earth. Ovo’s analysis, conducted in collaboration with physics blogger Stephen Skolnick and Dartmouth

But what really gets you is that darn laser, which would need a power source three million times more powerful than the sun to recharge, at a cost of nearly $8 octillion a pop. (Ovo isn’t clear on how often they assume the laser would be fired, but apparently it’s less than once per day).

You might think there’d be hope on the income side of the calculation, which Ovo didn’t tackle. But according to this expert Quora source, the Galactic Empire at its peak controlled 1.5 million core worlds and 69 million colonies, all knit together through a centrally-planned economy.

2017 will it all be the same again?

FINANCIAL NEWS The Euro & World Round Up

Confidence in Italy remains under threat - Italy’s biggest bank, UniCredit, recently announced Italy’s largest ever share issue, in an effort to raise €13 billion in order to boost their balance sheets. The company also said that it would cut 14,000 jobs by the end of 2019. UniCredit has lost around half its value this year and was one of the worst performs in recent resilient tests ran across European banks. The news again highlighted the ongoing economic crises hitting Italy following other news that the world’s oldest trading bank, Monte dei Paschi di Siena has to raise €5 billion by the end of the year to stay open. The problems in Italy I think will be one of the main talking points going forward within Europe. This is a topic that anyone with a Euro exposure should be kept well aware of. Remembering that there is a heightened amount of political uncertainty in Italy at the moment with an interim Prime Minister before their election next year.

Euro driving factors for 2017

Moving into the New Year many clients are already looking forward to try and manage their future requirements and are trying to second-guess where GBP/EUR levels may well be. Through 2016 GBP/EUR exchange rates have been as high as 1.36 and as low as 1.10, currently GBP/EUR levels are down

60

12.5% compared to the start of the year but are up over 7% compared to the beginning of November when they were near their worst. At the beginning of 2017 all eyes will remain fixed on negotiations in the UK with regards to the Brexit. Firstly, we have the results from the High Court case expected in the first 2 weeks of January. If they overturn the previous decision many expect Sterling to fall in value quite steeply whereas if it remains unchanged for Sterling to pick up. Thereafter it is the Government’s ‘forward guidance’ of the negotiations and the triggering of Article 50 before March, which will take centre stage. The second half of the year all eyes will be fixed on Europe with a number of major members holding general elections. With Italian, German and French politicians all looking inward for votes for these elections it seems unlikely that there will be a uniformed Eurozone policy to try and take steps forward with the wider economic problems across the region. It seems fairly likely that this will help make the Euro cheaper to buy but again, not until the second half of 2017 I would think. To help make your money go further don’t second-guess your currency transfers talk to a specialist and ensure you obtain the best exchange rates. A look at what's in store for you during January 2017...

Capricorn

Aquarius

Pisces

Aries

Taurus

Gemini 66

Capricorn, because Venus is in conjunction with Mars, in January 2017 expect the touch paper to be lit with regard your love life. But choices go through the filter of your mind and attractions tend toward people with whom you share the same interests or way of thinking. The Full Moon that forms on January 11-12th 2017 could bring a conclusion or mark a significant event in your relationship. Mercury in your sign has been behaving quite unpredictably during the last months, it makes a few interesting moves during January 2017. These bizarre maneuvers might be the sign of the beginning of a change in professional terms maybe changes of mind or mix-ups. All are actually meant to clarify some of your thoughts and strategies meaning you get back on the track to success. You should take care of your health its a great time to keep to the resolutions get fit and healthy for the New Year. Aquarius, the first two weeks of January 2017 lack sparkle or any special events happening. A bit of a boring start to the New Year all in all. You seem preoccupied concerned with practical and financial topics. On the work front getting started is tougher during the first part of January 2017. You can’t focus that much, your actions are somewhat disconnected, objectives somewhat unclear. But what is clear is that you want to make money. But in order to make money, you need to set aside fantastical ideas and anchor yourself soundly in reality. You’ll make it step by step, and the last week of January 2017 promises you professional achievements that can attract the desired profit. If they’re not urgent, leave initiatives that involve large sums of money for February! Pisces, during January 2017 passion takes over. Venus and Mars are both in your sign. You are hot stuff this month… When the two meet, the mood becomes hot, attractions are irresistible, love dictates and anything else goes in the background. If you are in a relationship then all this passion could lead to tensions just don’t get worked up, stay rational, and consider reality – not what you’d like to see happen! On the work front activities that involve a team, the public, a collective or an organisation are your strength during January, but also your trial. Good communication and clarity of cooperating conditions are essential. Focus, steer your forces in a concrete and useful direction! So money comes your way. But, considering the temperamental blow-ups of the terms, they it can also go just as quickly. You’re in excellent shape, particularly during the first two weeks of January 2017. Aries, January 2017 marks the beginning of a term during which your relationships will be under scrutiny. Venus will be in retrograde cycle from the 3rd of the month to April the 15th. Venus will bring with it unexpected emotions, that you will have to face up to, issues that weren’t resolved during their time. On the work front an emotional cycle begins, another one is about to close professionally. Your career is about to change quite significantly something that will help you make progress and integrate your goals better. Financially, you need a lot of order, clarity, and prudence until May or June 2017. You are feeling a little under the weather this month. You might tire more easily, become vulnerable to sickness. Energy improves slightly after January 2017, and your strength comes back miraculously toward end of month. Taurus, between 3rd and 28th of January Mars and Venus are bringing you in a luck they favour hopes and projects for the future. Under these circumstances, expect a happy month that fulfills your expectations and brings events that will make you happy. But there’s also a trap: you might be overexcited, get worked up over something that is not worth it. Stay rational, so you won’t suffer disappointments later on! February and March 2017 won’t be as giving. Keep yourself grounded and think things through before making important decisions! On the work front all you need to do is to come up with a good plan and doors will open. Now that we’ve mentioned plans: try to set clear and feasible objectives! Financially, things are beginning to settle down slowly, but you might still have to deal with some issues during the first part of the month. Your morale is also high, confident and optimistic. A great month for you!

Gemini, during January 2017 expect a love life that is balanced and full of affection and harmony. This is all because Saturn and Jupiter are situated in your house of love. Mercury has been in your skies since November and on January 12th enters in a financial house. This will affect a contract; relationship or litigation with impact upon money will be clarified. It’s also possible that an associate or perhaps even your lover will recover financially, or for some event to take place that is related to money you share with someone or that depend upon others. With the Sun and then with Mercury in your sign this month you don’t have loads of energy, so you should use your efforts carefully. You should lead an orderly life, focus on priorities, and don’t worry over insignificant things.

Cancer

Cancer, relationships are the key area in which most significant events take place during January 2017. The Sun and Pluto cross your sign during the first two weeks of the month, bring with them intense emotions. On the work front January 2017 speaks of responsibilities and cooperation working in a team or using your social connections. It’s a time for analyzing and evaluating. In this entire context, January 2017 prepares the ground for new actions and initiatives that will bring money and success. Be very careful about how you communicate! The recent worries plus Mercury’s retrograde motion in a sensitive area could have some repercussions for your health during January 2017. Be very careful! It a great time to reorganise your lifestyle on more balanced principles, get your ying and yang in order!

Leo

Leo, January 2017 is looking solid as a rock relationship wise this term will last September 2016 to October 2017. You have great scope at this time to meet ‘the one’ if you are single if you are in a relationship then you are in a great place luck is defiantly with you at this time. January 2017 has strong professional and financial connotations for Leos. The Sun, Mercury and Mars are expecting you’re to direct your forces toward making your professional performance more efficient and make a significant move on the financial level. Venus opens a term of a few months with strong connections between career and money and communicating on a wide range. Careful in financial matters! Don’t rush in and try to be realistic and also very pragmatic!

Virgo

Virgo, emotionally January 2017 is like a firework show for you. This month is very romantic you will be able to create amorous circumstances that are entirely special and very memorable! Expect the most passionate time a loved one will be at the center of your existence and shape all your choices and actions depending on love interests of course. Don’t lose your mind and control in relationships, regardless if they’re personal, business or friendships. After a somewhat indecisive, unclear or inefficient term, generated by its retrograde cycle, Mercury will now offer you opportunities abound. Looking at things from another point of view, the energy full of enthusiasm generated by the Venus-Mars conjunction in your sign this month will lead to excellent financial results, particularly if you’re the project leader.

Libra

Scorpio

Sagittarius

Libra, it seems that you don’t feel that much at ease during January 2017. Mars and Venus are plotting against you. Your degrees of freedom are limited; choices are often imposed upon you. For one reason or another, you do what you have to – not what you want to. Professionally, January 2017 looks like it’s going to be an intense month, you are going to be rushed of your feet at points and running around like a headless chicken. You always have something to do, often two or three things at once: at times you deal with emergencies, other times with difficult situations that demand courage. Despite all that, you find pleasure in what you do; you get the satisfaction of using your creativity and talents. Domestic issues and real-estate properties also attract your interest. Measure your efforts carefully, act in an organized manner, and don’t squander yourself away through useless secondary action!

Scorpio, with Venus and Mars in your sign this month January 2017 brings you a huge wave of romance and chances of love. Venus and Mars are taking your love life to a whole new planet of desire and conquest. Under such an astral configuration, we’re talking pure passion and attraction. If you are in a relationship that is a bit stagnant, January is excellent for re-launching your love life! Expect to fall in love, expect to experience physical sensations you never knew before! On the work front this is a very creative month, your power of expression is at its best and the power of communicating messages and emotions is unparalleled. In regard to money, January 2017 is not particularly generous with Scorpions. But the second part of the month brings some adjustments or clarifications. Also, you enjoy great power of persuasion that can be useful in negotiations. Don’t wear out all your resources! You’ll need them in February.

Sagittarius, January 2017 will bring some clarification in your relationship, most probably linked with financial issues. The start of the year doesn’t seem to be too romantic for you; on the home front you seem more interested in practical matters. On the work front this month seems to have an important financial connotations for you also: the Sun passes through your sign so does Mercury and Saturn. So: some situations reach their peak, challenges and obstacles arise, significant earnings or losses, professional decisions strongly influenced by financial aspects. With all of the heavy astrological context, you receive support and protection. You can reach success with patience and good strategies. If you avoid excesses, don’t take physical risks, and regard situations with a bit more humour, you can take in all in your stride.

Hedgehog Green Crosscode

An adult hedgehog was teaching two young hedgehogs how to cross the road without getting killed. He said: ‘If you’re in the middle of the road when a car comes along, just curl up into a ball and the vehicles wheels will pass harmlessly either side of you. It’s simple.’

To illustrate his point, the adult hedgehog then walked out into the middle of the road and as soon as a car appeared, he curled up into a ball. Just as he had predicted, the car’s wheels passed by, leaving him unscathed. Next, one of the younger hedgehogs’s tried it. He walked into the path of an oncoming car’s wheels passed by, leaving him undamaged. Finally the third hedgehog had to go. He walked to the center of the road and curled up into a ball as a car approached. The car passed over it and squashed the hedgehog flat as a pancake.

‘What did he do wrong?’ cried the second hedgehog. ‘Nothing’, said the adult hedgehog. ‘He was just unlucky that a Reliant Robin came along.’

A lady went to see psychic to predict her future, the psychic said, “I'm sorry to inform you that your husband will die in the near future.” The lady replied “Don't tell me things that I already know, tell me if there would be an investigation!!” Why did the jellybean go to school? Because it wanted to be a Smartie.

An older couple had just learned how to send text messages on their mobile phones. The wife was a romantic type and the husband was more of a no-nonsense guy. One afternoon the wife went out to meet a friend for coffee. She decided to send her husband a romantic text message and she wrote "If you are sleeping, send me your dreams. If you are laughing, send me your smile. If you are eating, send me a bite. If you are drinking, send me a sip. If you are crying, send me your tears. I love you." The husband texted back to her: "I'm on the toilet. Please advise."

I forgot to post on social media that I’m going to the gym. Now this whole work out has been a waste of time. A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph, enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left. "Amazing," he thought as he flew down I-95, pushing the pedal even more. Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a Florida State Trooper, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110, then 120. Suddenly he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this!" and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival. Pulling in behind him, the trooper got out of his vehicle and walked up to the Corvette. He looked at his watch, then said, "Sir, my shift ends 72

in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a new reason for speeding – a reason I've never before heard – I'll let you go.."The old gentleman paused then said, "Three years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back." "Have a good day, Sir," replied the trooper.

If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you! Did you hear about the cross-eyed headmaster? He couldn't control his pupils.

My wife and I had a huge row last night. She called me gullible and said I was financially irresponsible. I can’t wait to see her face when I tell her I’ve just won the Nigerian Lottery. Which English King invented the fireplace? Alfred the Grate.
