A Woman’s World

ONE WOMAN’S STRUGGLE TO REMOVE UNWANTED HAIR...

With the beach season well under way we all have to struggle, this ladies account brings back a few horrific memories... I had been putting this off for over a fortnight: 'Maybe I should pull the waxing kit out of the medicine cabinet.' So I headed to the site of my demise: the bathroom. I had checked out the options in the chemist and gone for on of 'cold wax' kits. No melting a clump of hot wax, you just rub the strips together in your hand, they get warm and you peel them apart and press them to your leg (or wherever else) and you pull the hair right off. No mess, no fuss. How hard can it be? I mean, I'm not a genius, but I think I can figure this out. (I THOUGHT!?!) So I pull one of the thin strips out. It’s two strips facing each other stuck together. Instead of rubbing them together, my genius kicks in so I get out the hair dryer and heat it to 1000 degrees. ('Cold wax,' yeah...right!) I lay the strip across my thigh. Hold the skin around it tight and pull. It works! OK, so it wasn't the best feeling, but it wasn't too bad. I can do this! Hair removal no longer eludes me! I am She-rah, fighter of all wayward body hair and maker of smooth skin extraordinaire. With my next wax strip, I drop my knickers and place one foot on the toilet. Using the same procedure, I apply the wax strip across the right side of my bikini line, covering the right half of my hoo-ha and stretching down to the inside of my butt cheek (it was a long strip). I inhale deeply and brace myself...RRRRIIIPPP!!!! I'm blind!!! Blinded from pain!!!..OH MY GAWD!!! Vision returning, I notice that I've only managed to pull off half the strip. CRAP! Another deep breath and RIPP! Everything is spinning and spotted. I think I may pass out...must stay conscious...must stay conscious. Breathe, breathe...OK, back to normal. I hold up the strip! There's no hair on it. Where is the hair? WHERE IS THE WAX? Slowly I ease my head down, foot still perched on the toilet. I see the hair. The hair that should be on the strip...it's not! I touch... I am touching wax!! I run my fingers over the most sensitive part of my body, which is now covered in cold wax and matted hair. Then I make the next BIG mistake...remember my foot is still propped upon the toilet? I know I need to do something. So I put my foot down. My bottom is now sealed shut. Sealed shut! I penguin walk around the bathroom trying to figure out what to do and think to myself. What can I do to melt the wax? Hot water!! Hot water melts wax!! I'll run the hottest water I can stand into the bathtub, get in, immerse the wax-covered bits and the wax should melt and I can gently wipe it off, right??? WRONG!!! THE HAIR IS STILL HERE....ALL OF IT! So I recklessly shave it off. Heck, I'm numb by now. Nothing hurts. I could have amputated my own leg at this point.

HOT STRICTLY GOSS!

June 2015 Costa Link Magazine.qxp_Editorial Layout 24/05/15 5:43 pm Page 14

PETER ANDRE IS UP FOR THIS YEAR’S STRICTLY... The dad-of-three is rumoured to be getting ready to step into the spotlight and dance his way to the glitter-ball trophy. According to the Sun, Pete’s been approached four times to take part in the BBC dancing show but has always turned them down. But, it seems this year he could be ready to get some sequined trousers on. Pete’s previously said he’d be up for going on the show but admitted he does have reservations about some of the outfits. We think he’d look alright in some tight, spandex pants. OTHER STRICTLY 2015 LINEUP RUMOURS INCLUDE: Speculation as to who will be hitting the ballroom in the new series. Ayda Field (and Robbie Williams's wife) is the first person we spotted being linked to this year's Strictly... all the way back in January. The odds on Ayda: 2/5. Angie Best model and former Playboy bunny who was married to George Best (and is mum to Calum)The odds on Angie: 3/5. Adrian Chiles: Television presenter could this be Adrian Chiles's big return to the Beeb? The odds on Adrian 4/5. Tom Ellis, actor we keep hearing the rumour that Tom Ellis could be taking part in Strictly - certainly he'd be a good name for the show to get. Odds for Tom 2/5. Richard & Judy: legendary husband-and-wife TV presenting double act both on ITV and Channel 4. Richard and Judy are both such massive characters that it would surely lead to some iconic moments. Odds of R & J: 2/5 (praying it's 5/5). Ben Shephard: Television presenter this one's been circling for a while. Likelihood of Ben on the floor: 3/5 Vernon Kay: The rumour started when Vern said that he would "seriously consider" taking part. Our feeling is that it probably wouldn't be worth the inevitable 'fix' claims. Odds for Vern: 1/5.Other celeb’s on the list include: Sharon Osbourne, Shane Richie, Ed Balls, and Dermot O'Leary we can’t wait get that glitter ball out and dusted off for another year’s Strictly, KEEP DANCING!

NICK GRIMSHAW TALKS X FACTOR! His name hasn’t been out of the press in recent weeks. The Radio 1 DJ is hotly tipped as the next X Factor judge. Last month, Louis Walsh said Nick had pretty much signed on the dotted line but nothing has been officially confirmed. Nick told Heat Magazine “I do love watching it, me and my friends religiously watch it and it’s good because it makes us stay in. It’s quite a good rehab essentially, we stay in from like August to Christmas…!” Maybe this year, Nick will be working every weekend from August to Christmas…we’ll have to wait and see. KATIE HOPKINS AT IT AGAIN... AFTER recently slamming Charlotte Church, Russell Brand and Michelle Keegan, it looks like Katie Hopkins has now moved onto poor old Kelly Brook. The 40-year-old claimed Kelly, 35, who has been keeping fans updated on her trip via her Instagram page, was neither prominent or wealthy. Katie wrote: "Kelly Brook has been doing a good job hobnobbing with the rich, famous and exceptionally thin in Cannes this week. "Given she is none of these three things, I am guessing she is there to give a sense of scale – like using a coin near a small insect." Will her bitter rants never end? ELLIOTT WRIGHT TO MAKE A MARBS TOWIE RETURN!...OMG! We feel a romantic reunion coming on… So when TOWIE star Elliott Wright, 34, sensationally quit the show and seemingly ended his on/off relationship with fellow cast member Chloe Sims in March, to embark on a business venture in Marbella, we knew it wouldn't be the last we'd see of him - or his turbulent romance with Chloe. And our prediction was correct! Elliott, who was recently seen partying hard in Las Vegas with his cousin Mark Wright on his stag do, is set to rejoin the reality TV show, for the Marbs special. Look out for the TOWIE cast in their fav haunts in Puerto Banus at the start of this month….

Japanese hotel service...

A Canadian salesman checked into a futuristic hotel in Tokyo, Japan... Realising he needed a haircut before the next day's meeting, he called down to the desk clerk to ask if there was a barber on the premises. 'I'm afraid not, sir,' the clerk told him apologetically, 'but down the hall from your room is a vending machine that should serve your purposes.' Skeptical but intrigued, the salesman located the machine, inserted 15.00 Yen, and stuck his head into the opening, at which time the machine started to buzz and whirl. Fifteen seconds later the salesman pulled out his head and surveyed his reflection, which reflected the best haircut of his life. Two feet away was another machine with a sign that read,'Manicures, 20.00 Yen'. ‘Why not?' thought the salesman. He paid the money, inserted his hands into the slot, and the machine started to buzz and whirl. Fifteen seconds later he pulled out his hands and they were perfectly manicured. The next machine had a sign that read, 'This Machine Provides a Service Men Need When Away from Their Wives, 1 Yen.' The salesman looked both ways, put one Yen in the machine, unzipped his fly, and with some anticipation, stuck his manhood into the opening. When the machine started buzzing, the guy let out a shriek of agony and almost passed out. Fifteen seconds later it shut off. With trembling hands, the salesman was able to withdraw his tender unit, which now had a button sewn neatly on the end.

The priest entered his donkey in a race and it won. The priest was so pleased with the donkey that he entered it in the race again, and it won again.

The local paper read: PRIEST'S ASS OUT FRONT.

The Bishop was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the priest not to enter the donkey in another race. The next day, the local paper headline read: BISHOP SCRATCHES PRIEST'S ASS. This was too much for the bishop, so he ordered the priest to get rid of the donkey. The priest decided to give it to a nun in a nearby convent. The local paper, hearing of the news, posted the following headline the next day:

NUN HAS BEST ASS IN TOWN.

The bishop fainted. He informed the nun that she would have to get rid of the donkey, so she sold it to a farmer for 100â‚Ź. The next day the paper read:

NUN SELLS ASS FOR 100â‚Ź!

This was all too much for the bishop, so he ordered the nun to buy back the donkey and lead it to the plains where it could run wild. The next day the headlines read:

NUN ANNOUNCES HER ASS IS WILD AND FREE! The bishop was buried the next day.

Those pearly gates

a blonde in heaven...

A blonde dies and arrives at the Pearly Gates, where St. Peter greets her. "Welcome!" he says. "Because we are currently operating at 99% capacity, we can only let a limited number of souls into heaven. Therefore, you must answer my questions correctly to gain entrance." "Okay," says the blonde. "Here's your question: name two days of the week that begin with the letter T." "That's easy. Today and tomorrow!" "Well, that's not the answer I was thinking of, but I'll give you another question. How many seconds are there in a year?" "That's easy. Twelve!" "Twelve?" "January second, February second, March second--" "Okay, okay. I can see you misunderstood this question as well. Okay, one more chance. What's God's name?" "That's easy. Howard!" "Howard?" "You know -- 'Our Father, who art in heaven, Howard be thy name‌"

A Man’s World

THOUGHT OF THE DAY...

A married man should forget his mistakes. There's no use in two people remembering the same thing!

STRANGE BEHAVIOUR...

A man was in his garden mowing the grass when his neighbour came out of the house and went straight to the letterbox. She opened it then slammed it shut and stormed back into the house. A little later she came out of her house again went to the letter box and again opened it, slammed it shut again. Angrily, back into the house she went. As the man was getting ready to edge the lawn, she came out again, marched to the letterbox, opened it and then slammed it closed harder than ever. Puzzled by her actions the man asked her, "Is something wrong?" To which she replied, "There certainly is!" My stupid computer keeps saying, "You've Got Mail."

IT’S ALL BULL...

A man took his wife to the rodeo and one of the first exhibits they stopped at was the breeding bulls. They went up to the first pen and there was a sign attached that said, "This bull mated 50 times last year." The wife playfully nudged her husband in the ribs and said, "He mated 50 times last year." They walked to the second pen which had a sign attached that said, "This bull mated 120 times last year. " The wife gave her husband a healthy jab and said, "That's more than twice a week! You could learn a lot from him." They walked to the third pen and it had a sign attached that said, in capital letters, "This bull mated 365 times last year." The wife, so excited that her elbow nearly broke her husband's rib, said, "That's once a day.You could REALLY learn something from this one." The husband looked at her and said, "Go over and ask him if it was with the same cow."

A married couple went to the hospital to have their baby delivered. Upon their arrival, the doctor said he had invented a new machine that would transfer a portion of the mother’s pain to the baby's father. He asked if they were willing to try it out. they were both very much in favor of it. The doctor set the pain transfer to 10%, for starters, explaining that even 10% was probably more pain the father had ever experienced before. However, as the labor progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the doctor to go ahead and "kick it up a notch." The doctor then adjusted the machine to 20% pain transfer. The husband was still feeling fine. The doctor checked the husband’s blood pressure and was amazed at how well he was doing at this point, they decided to try for 50%. the husband continued to feel quite well. Since the pain transfer was obviously helping out the wife considerably, the husband encouraged the doctor to transfer ALL the pain to him. The wife delivered a healthy baby boy with virtually no pain. She and her husband were ecstatic. When they got home, the postman was dead on the front doorstep.

Enjoying the sun and the warm temperatures that we are lucky enough to experience here on the coast mean that we have to take extra precautions to protect our skin. Living in the south of Spain, we have to ensure that our raised exposure to the sunlight does not cause serious damages to our skin. Principally almost everybody has the posibility to develop a darker pigmentation to the skin, we get tanned after being in the sun, some more than others, this is related to our skin type. The skin pigmentation is our natural sun protection. The melanocytes, staying upon the basalmembran get stimulated by the UVA and UV-B radiation, they produce more melanin (which is the colour) and with their "tentacles " they are able to divide the melanin to the surrounding epidermal cells. The melanin is placed right above the nucleus and it works like a parasol, trying to avoid damage to your DNA. So it is easy to understand, that a person, who is not able to build up a strong pigmentation has a lesser natural protection against the UV-radiation. Apart from that homogen pigmentation of our skin almost everybody has some pigmented lesions, called birthmarks, moles, nevus, lentigines and so on. We could write a textbook on pigmented

Medical Tips

Become Mole Aware!

moles as it is difficult to explain and distinguish between the different types of pigmented moles, in a consise way. However, we wanted to give you some ideas / advice on how to look at any pigmented lesions you may have and how to act in a responsable way, in terms of checking these out and if necessary getting treatment. When we take a look at the benign pigmented moles, we find that nearly all of them are round or oval, in a symmetric aspect, they have sharp and clear border, most of them are only one colour, there diameter (of each mole) is not more than 6mm and there is not any change to the thickness or size of the mole.

All these parameters (mentioned above) are reflected in the ABCDE-rule, which is a very good method for you the reader to become more aware of any moles you may have: A: Asymmetry B: Border C: Color D: Diameter E: Elevation and / or Enlargement Sometimes we can see moles with a different apperance: not symmetric, unsharp border´s, many colors or larger than 6mm. These moles need to be examined.

In these instances it means that the nor-

Here are some examples of pigmented tumors, for you to use with the ABCDE guide: Picture 1: Pigmented nodule: showing several colors, loss of structure. Suspicous to be a nodular melanoma or a pigmented basalioma Picture 2: Superficial increased pigmented lesion: showing different colors, diffuse and curved margin, secundar development of a nodular part. Suspicious to be a superficial spreading melanoma with a secundar nodular part.

50

mal structure of the nevus has changed, the cells are showing irregular cell division. You can find that this can happen with a family history ("syndrom of dysplastic nevus") but also without a family history. The dysplastic nevus is suspicous to be a precursor of a melanoma, so it should be removed by minor surgery and then sent away for analysis. In the last decade evidence shows a worldwide increase of melanoma. In the year 2000 the risk factor of melanomas was 1 in 75. The majority of the melanomas show an initial superficial spreading and in the second stage they grow deeper into the tissue. We can see a very important trend, the vertical thickness of the melanoma is a reliable marker for the risk of sending metastasis to the rest of the body. It is clear that early diagnosis is the most important thing and indeed, if we remove melanomas with less than 1 mm thickness ("low risk melanomas") it has been found that the healing rate is up to 95% in patients. The key to all of this is that you are aware of any changes and that you follow the simple ABCDE guidelines (as detailed earlier). Remember that in the initial stages skin cancer (melanomas) never have any symptoms such as pain or itching, they just grow.

Picture 3: Pigmented mole in a deep brown: showing a loss of pigmentation and structure in the middle. Curved spreading margin, suspicious to be a superficial spreading melanoma Picture 4: Pigmented lesion with several colors: has a loss of structure and pigmentation, diffused margin, it is suspicous to be a initial melanoma developed on a dysplastic nevus Before the summer sun and UV rays intensify, now is the perfect time to get any moles you may have checked out by your healthcare professional.

A large woman, wearing a sleeveless sun dress, walked into a bar in Dublin. She raised her right arm, revealing a huge, hairy armpit and, as she pointed to all the people sitting at the bar she asked, "What man here will buy a lady a drink?" The bar went silent as patrons tried to ignore her. But down at the end of the bar, an owly-eyed drunk slammed his hand down on the counter and bellowed, "Give the ballerina a drink!" The bartender poured the drink and the woman chugged it down. She turned to the patrons and again pointed around at all of them, revealing the same hairy armpit, and asked, "What man here will buy a lady a drink?" Once again, the same little drunk slapped his money down on the bar and said, "Give the ballerina another drink!" The bartender approached the little drunk and said, "Tell me, Paddy, it's your business if you want to buy the lady a drink, but why do you keep calling her the ballerina?" The drunk replied, "Any woman who can lift her leg that high has got to be a ballerina!"

Ford has recently announced the 4th generation Focus RS, the 30th car to carry the legendary RS badge; we take a look at some of our favorite RS models over the years. The 1973 Capri RS3100 featured a unique Ducktail rear spoiler, and had gold detailing. Only 250 were made.

Sagittarius

Cancer, professional and financial interests mix with relationship ones this month. Venus, the ruler of love, is in your sign throughout June 2015. Different possibilities present themselves: either professional and financial interests are pursued together with your pair, perhaps they influence your decisions in matters of the heart. Either way, the influence will lead to positive results. On the work and finance front with both Benefices’ – Venus and Jupiter – June 2015 brings you good luck with finances. To get that money though, you might have to do some secret maneuvering or resort to some less than orthodox methods. Things develop nicely on the professional front, but it’s possible that acknowledgement and success will come late in the month. In the last week of June 2015, Cancerians will be in incredible shape. Enjoy it! Leo, June 2015 is an interesting month for you, because Venus, the planet of love, begins its retrograde cycle exactly in Leo. This cycle will last until November 8th of 2015 and will involve Leo and Virgo. Your love life is blooming this month. You’ll experience joyful events and you might even meet someone special. But there are concerns that things might not be as they seem, or you might experience some troubled, complicated moments at some point. Venus and Jupiter are helping out your career this month. Therefore, your success is guaranteed. Luck seems to come your way without you making any effort. Opportunities for development and success arise. You are blossoming. You have great energy, both physically and mentally. The only downside would be the tendency to overdo it. Try to relax when you can, maybe take a little long overdue holiday. Virgo, Venus is alongside Jupiter, this month bringing with it happiness and fulfillment. From now on until November 2015, Venus is in retrograde cycle it will go back and forth as if stuck. These five months might bring Virgos important insight into emotions and relationships. But it might also cause trouble...Be careful what you get yourself involved in, it might be complicated! On the career and money front you have three strong allies in Mars the Sun and Mercury whatever misunderstanding or obstacles have risen in the past weeks you now have a clear path in every direction. Not only that, but you’re also lucky when it comes to money! Be careful whom you get mixed up with, both in love and in business! To avoid risks, it’s advisable to be calm, disciplined and cautious. Libra, with Venus and Jupiter in your sign this month, you’re likely to have a great time, to attend parties or various social gatherings if you are single now is a great time to meet someone new at some reunion or maybe under different circumstances somewhere people with shared interests are gathered. On the work front you’re very popular and you’re lucky or skillful enough to find supporters and friends willing to help you out with whatever you intend to do, to back you up and promote you. June 2015 is a very favorable month for group projects anything you touch will be successful. You are also likely to receive gifts, sponsorships or other financial advantages this month. Things are starting to settle down after a very tense patch of both mental and nervous strain. Ask for favors and support, because you’re very likely to get them! It’s also an excellent time to make new friends.

Scorpio, Venus is in your sign this month and is going to be hitting high. Being close to Jupiter does Venus a world of good, you are the center of attention. Therefore, you can expect important and happy events to happen: romantic proposals or declarations of love, reconciliations or, in some cases, even an engagement or marriage. June 2015 is a successful month for Scorpions. The sky is the limit and opportunities seem to pop up everywhere. You might be commended, appreciated or even awarded, you could get promoted, win something, enjoy resonating success. It would be preferable to postpone any financial initiatives for the second part of the month. Vitality is low for the duration of June 2015. It’s advisable not to push it and to take care of yourself. Relax when you can take a trip away or just take a few days off.

Sagittarius, June 2015 will be full of irresistible attractions and bold romantic gestures. Uranus will be in your sign brining with it unexpected experiences. You take charge and go for it to get what you want. In the second part of June 2015 you might finally settle an issue that’s been bothering you for weeks. On the work and finance front, June 2015 is a highly competitive month. You might have discussions or re-negotiations most likely this will be with associates or even competitors. Misunderstandings or errors might occur in the first week try to be patient and have tact! Financially, things also change around the middle of the month. With stress levels running this high, there’s not much of a chance to find a balance in June 2015. Even though you’re rather agitated you’ll rise to the challenge.

Tell me three reasons why you deserve one.” Maria says, “Well Senora, the first is that I iron better than you.” “How do you know you iron better than me?” questioned the wife. “Your husband said so” the maid responded. “I see” said the wife. “The second reason is that I am a better cook than you” said the maid. “Nonsense, who said you were a better cook than me?” the wife questioned. “Your husband did” replied the maid. “I see” said the wife. “My third reason is that I am a better lover than you” said the maid smugly. “Did my husband say that as well!?” the wife asked outraged. “No Senora, the gardener did” Funnily enough she then got the raise.

The Iowa Wage and Hour Department claimed a man owning a small farm was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent to interview him. "I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them," demanded the agent. "Well, there are my hired hands. One has been with me for four years; the other for three. I pay them each $600 a week, plus free room and board. The cook has been here for 18 months, and I pay her $500 a month plus free room and board. Then there's the half-wit that works here about 18 hours a day. He takes home $10 a week and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every week," replied the farmer. "That's the guy I want to talk to; the half-wit," said the agent. The farmer said, "That would be me.

An elderly couple had been dating for some time. Finally they decided it was time for marriage. Before the wedding, they went out to dinner and had a long conversation regarding how their marriage might work. They discussed

finances, living arrangements and so on. Finally the old gentleman decided it was time to broach the subject of their physical relationship. "How do you feel about sex?" he asked, rather trustingly.

Well," she says, responding very carefully, "I'd have to say I would like it infrequently." The old gentleman sat quietly for a moment. Then, looking over his glasses, he looked her in the eye casually asking, "Was that one word or two?" A guy walks into a post office one day to see a middle-aged, balding man standing at the counter methodically placing "Love" stamps on bright pink envelopes with hearts all over them. He then takes out a perfume bottle and starts spraying scent all over them. His curiosity getting the better of him, he goes up to the balding man and asks him what he is doing. The man says "I'm sending out 1,000 Valentine cards signed, 'Guess who?'" "But why?" asks the man. "I'm a divorce lawyer," the man replies.
