I have to say that the funeral of Prince Philip was one of the most spectacular events of late – the pomp and majesty of the UK royals is something to behold! It’s a shame that the “Oprah” interview was so present during his last few weeks… Dates for diary this month are a cheeky bank holiday on the 1st and Spanish Mothers day is on the 2nd Sounds good to me! It’s a new one on me! My wife was standing in the kitchen, preparing our usual Soft-boiled eggs and toast for breakfast, wearing only The t-shirt that she normally slept in. As I walked in, almost awake, she turned to me and said softly, “You’ve got to make love to me this very moment!” My eyes lit up and I thought, “I am either still dreaming or this is going to be my lucky day!” Not wanting to lose the moment, I embraced her and then gave it my all; right there on the kitchen table. Afterwards she said, “Thanks,” and returned to the stove, Her T-shirt still around her neck. Once inside the bank shortly after midnight, their efforts at disabling the security system got underway immediately. The robbers, who expected to find one or two large safes filled with cash & valuables, were surprised to see hundreds of smaller safes throughout the bank. The robbers cracked the first safe's combination, and inside they found only a small bowl of vanilla pudding. As recorded on the bank's audio tape system, one robber said, 'At least we'll have a bit to eat.' The robbers opened up a second safe, and it also contained nothing but vanilla pudding. Therefore, everyday I walk down the street and tell passers-by what I have eaten, how I feel at the moment, what I have done the night before, what I will so later and with whom. Having seen the high ratings on tripadvisor, we decided to go for dinner at El Salon in Marbella, and even after reading all the excellent reviews, we were still pleasantly surprised. It is a beautiful restaurant decorated in a very modern style but with classic features. We were met by Declan who told us about his family involvement in the restaurant and the passion they all have for serving good food. Whilst we were looking at the menu, Carlota brought us some bread and butter... nothing unusual there... until we tried it, lovely warm bread with the most incredible garlic butter. We knew from there on that this meal was going to be a treat! We ordered two Tapas each to start with; first to arrive were the mini porcino risotto and the chicken liver pate. The risotto was quite amazing and the pate so smooth, two really great dishes. Next were the mini hamburgers and the solomillo with brie and caramelised onion. They tasted fantastic and you could really tell that top quality ingredients had gone into them. We were both feeling quite full by now but had a cheeky look at the menu and decided we could fit one more tapa in each, we ordered a chicken skewer and a spinach lasagna. They both arrived and were just as good as the previous tapas, the chicken was really tender and came with a gorgeous honey mustard dressing and the spinach lasagna was just awesome. We were offered desserts and although we were both really full we just couldn’t resist them, we ordered a chocolate brownie and a banoffee pie. When they arrived they were huge!!! Both desserts are traditionally heavy but both were so light and full of flavor. At the end of meal we asked for the bill and were astonished, we had pigged out and it had cost us so much less than we would have expected! A man and woman are on a first date; everything is going fantastically between them. The man suggests they go to a local milk bar to share a milkshake, but the woman declines, saying she can’t have that stuff. Whilst searching for somewhere else to go, a car comes out of nowhere barreling towards them. The man is able to push his date out of the way, but the car runs over his foot, sending him to the hospital with several severed toes. The doctors all do their best, but are unable to reattach all of them. His date, initially star struck at having her life saved by this brave man, suddenly stops coming to visit him in hospital. Distraught, he calls to ask her why. “I’m sorry, but I can’t help that I’m lack-toes intolerant.”

CHOCOLATE CHERRY BAKEWELL CAKE An irresistible almond sponge, studded with juicy cherries and chocolate chunks, that'll keep in your cake tin for a few days... if it lasts that long!

INGREDIENTS:

METHOD:

STEP 1: Heat oven to 160C/140C fan/gas 3. Grease and line a 900g loaf tin with baking parchment. Toss the cherries in 1 tbsp of the flour, then set aside.

• 200g butter, softened, plus extra for greasing • 140g fresh cherries, halved and stoned • 140g plain flour • 200g golden caster sugar • 3 medium eggs • 1 ½ tsp baking powder • 75g ground almond • 2 tbsp milk • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 1 tsp almond extract • 200g dark or milk chocolate, chopped • 2 tbsp toasted flaked almonds

STEP 2: Put the butter and sugar in a large bowl, and whisk until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, 1 at a time, mixing well between each addition. Fold in the remaining flour, the baking powder and ground almonds. Stir in the milk, the vanilla and almond extracts, and 100g of the chocolate with a spatula. Scrape half the cake mixture into the tin, scatter half the cherries over the top, then add the remaining cake mixture and the remaining cherries. Bake for 1 hr 10 mins or until a skewer comes out clean.

STEP 3: Cool in the tin for 10 mins, then remove and place on a wire rack to cool completely. Melt the remaining chocolate in the microwave in 20sec bursts, then drizzle or pipe over the top of the cake and scatter with the almonds. Wait for the chocolate to set a bit before slicing. Will keep in the cake tin for up to 3 days.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR HEART HEALTHY…

You know that exercise and a good diet can keep your heart healthy. But what else can you do to keep your ticker ticking? Here are five key things you need to do every day to help your heart work most efficiently. Incorporate these habits into your lifestyle and your heart health will be the best it can be for you.

1) EAT HEALTHY FATS, NOT TRANS FATS: We need fats in our

diet, including saturated and polyunsaturated and unsaturated fats. One fat we don’t need is trans fat, which is known to increase your risk of developing heart disease or having a stroke over a lifetime. This is because trans fat clogs your arteries by raising your bad cholesterol levels (LDL) and lowering your good cholesterol levels (HDL). By cutting them from your diet, you improve the blood flow throughout your body. So, what are trans fats? They are industry-produced fats often used in packaged baked goods, snack foods, margarines and fried fast foods to add flavour and texture. TIP: Read the labels on all foods. Trans fat appears on the ingredients list as partially hydrogenated oils. Look for 0% trans fat. Make it a point to avoid eating foods with trans fat.

2) PRACTICE GOOD DENTAL HYGIENE: Practice good dental hygiene, especially flossing your teeth daily. Dental health is a good indication of overall health, including your heart, because those who have periodontal (gum) disease often have the same risk factors for heart disease. Studies continue on this issue, but many have shown that bacteria in the mouth involved in the development of gum disease can move into the bloodstream and cause an elevation in C-reactive protein, a marker for inflammation in the blood vessels. These changes may in turn, increase your risk of heart disease and stroke. TIP: Floss & brush your teeth daily to ward off gum disease. It’s more than cavities you may have to deal with if you are fighting gum disease.

3) GET ENOUGH SLEEP: Sleep is an essential part of keeping your heart healthy. If you don’t sleep enough, you may be at a higher risk for cardiovascular disease no matter your age or other health habits. One study looking at 3,000 adults over the age of 45 found that those who slept fewer than six hours per night were about twice as likely to have a stroke or heart attack as people who slept six to eight hours per night. Researchers believe sleeping too little causes disruptions in underlying health conditions and biological processes, including blood pressure and inflammation. TIP: Make sleep a priority. Get 7 to 8 hours of sleep most nights. If you have sleep apnea, you should be treated as this condition is linked to heart disease and arrhythmias. 4) DON’T SIT FOR TOO LONG AT ONE TIME: In recent years, research has suggested that staying seated for long periods of time is bad for your health no matter how much exercise you do. This is bad news for the many people who sit at sedentary jobs all day. When looking at the combined results of several observational studies that included nearly 800,000 people, researchers found that in those who sat the most, there was an associated 147 percent increase in cardiovascular events and a 90 percent increase in death caused by these events. In addition, sitting for long periods of time (especially when traveling) increases your risk of deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot). TIP: Experts say it’s important to move throughout the day. Park farther away from the office, take a few shorter walks throughout the day and/or use a standing work station so you can move up and down. And remember to exercise on most days.

5) AVOID SECONDHAND SMOKE: Avoid secondhand smoke like the plague. Studies show that the risk of developing heart disease is about 25 to 30% higher for people who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or work. Nonsmokers who have high blood pressure or high blood cholesterol have an even greater risk of developing heart disease when they’re exposed to secondhand smoke. This is because the chemicals emitted from cigarette smoke promote the development of plaque buildup in the arteries. TIP: Be firm with smokers that you do not want to be around environmental smoke. SHANGHAI MOTORSHOW 2021

Shanghai motor show is one of the first since the global pandemic and we take a look at some of the weird and wonderful motors revealed last month…

The Opel Manta A is one of those classic little European cars that made it all over the World. As a sporty two-door coupe with bright paint schemes and a few spritely four-cylinder engines, it's enjoyed by the likes of Americans and Europeans alike. Well its being reborn as the Manta GSe ElektroMOD. There's little in the way of technical specs at the moment but the Manta may be in production soon. You would be forgiven for thinking that the front end of Roewe’s new SUV looks like a whale – not least because that’s exactly where the car’s designers have got their inspiration. Jing directly translates from Chinese as whale, and the company says the car follows a philosophy called Emotional Rhythm. This, whatever it is, is meant to rejuvenate the brand, according to its makers.

Not satisfied with making a whale like car, the Ora looks very like a classic Volkswagen Beetle. A vote to decide on a name for the EV ended in it being christened the Punk Cat, although there’s nothing punky about the green, red and cream interior. Maybe more Cath Kidston.

This massive off-roading truck inspired by Shelby is called the Baja Snake, the heavily fortified truck is based on the Cannon pick-up, bringing a raised ride height, bigger bumpers, new suspension and even an air snorkel to the table. Great Wall says the Baja Snake is a production car that will be sold as a limited-edition model in China, although quite how limited remains to be seen.

The Hongguang Mini EV has taken China by storm following its launch last year, helped by its price tag of just 4000€ and a 100-mile range that makes it ideal for life in the city. A convertible version is now in the pipeline, complete with a mechanically operated soft top that can retract and deploy in a matter of seconds. A production model is set to arrive next year and, given that the hardtop is less than 3000mm long, it will be one of the smallest cars on sale.
