Ed’s Note... Well Have you managed to get rid of all the mud yet? I’ve brushed, mopped, and painted it all away… Our swimming pool/pond even got a family of ducks… Supposed they don’t know the difference! The sun suddenly heats up, the clouds (well most of them) melt away and the beach season is just around the corner… Every year it’s a struggle to fit into my beachwear thankfully we now have lycra!

BRIDGERTON IS GETTING A PREQUEL SERIES: ABOUT YOUNG QUEEN CHARLOTTE... It will center around the early lives of the queen, Lady Danbury, and Violet Bridgerton. Netflix has officially announced the cast members set to play the younger versions of starring characters in Shonda Rhimes's anticipated Bridgerton prequel. Actress India Amarteifio is confirmed to lead as the young Queen Charlotte in the spin-off centered around the monarch, the streamer confirmed. She stars alongside Golda Rosheuvel, who reprises her role as the older queen from the original series. "Betrothed to the mysterious King of England against her will, Charlotte arrives in London only to realise she was not exactly what the royals were expecting. As she learns to navigate the palace, the ‘ton and her unpredictable husband, she grows into one of Europe’s most unforgettable monarchs,” young Charlotte's character description reads on Netflix. The new prequal should be starting on Netflicks in early 2023. Bridgerton has additionally been renewed for two more seasons.

HURRICANE DEVASTATION A MAJOR HURRICANE (SHAZZA) MEASURING 5.8 ON THE RICHTER SCALE HIT IN THE EARLY HOURS OF MONDAY.... EPICENTRE: BASILDON, ESSEX. VICTIMS WERE SEEN WANDERING AROUND AIMLESS The hurricane decimated the area causing approximately £30 worth of damage. Several priceless collections of mementos from the Balearics and Spanish Costa's were damaged beyond repair. Three areas of historic burnt out cars were disturbed. Essex FM (County Radio Station) reported that hundreds of residents were confused and bewildered, still trying to come to terms with the fact that something interesting had happened in Basildon. One resident: Tracy Sharon Smith, a 15-year-old mother of 5 said "It was such a shock, my little Chardonnay-Mercedes came running into my bedroom crying. My youngest two Tyler-Morgan & Megan-Storm slept through it all. I was still shaking when I was watching Lorraine the next morning."

Apparently though, looting, muggings and car crime did carry on as normal. The British Red Cross has so far managed to ship 4,000 crates of Sunny Delight to the area to help the stricken locals.

RESCUE WORKERS ARE STILL SEARCHING THROUGH THE RUBBLE and have found large quantities of personal belongings, including benefit books, jewellery from Elizabeth Duke at Argos and Bone China from Poundland.

Bovine issue’s...

The only cow in a small town in Australia stopped giving milk. The townsfolk found they could buy a cow in India quite cheaply. So they brought the cow from India and it was wonderful, produced lots of milk every day and everyone was happy. They bought a bull to mate with the cow to get more cows, so they'd never have to worry about their milk supply again. They put the bull in the pasture with the cow but whenever the bull tried to mount the cow, the cow would move away. No matter what approach the bull tried, the cow would move away from the bull and he was never able to do the deed.

The people were very upset and decided to go the Vet, who was very wise, tell him what was happening and ask his advice.

They told him, "Whenever the bull tries to mount our cow, she moves away. If he approaches from the back, she moves forward. When he approaches her from the front, she backs off. If he attempts from one side, she walks away to the other side."

The Vet rubbed his chin thoughtfully and pondered this before asking, "Did you by any chance, buy this cow in India?"

The people were dumbfounded, since no one had ever mentioned that they had bought the cow over from India.

"You are truly a wise Vet," they said.

"How did you know we got the cow in India?

The Vet replied with a distant look in his eye, "My wife is from India."

FREE Following on from our ar琀cle last month regarding personal tax returns in Spain, this consultation month we’re providing more informa琀on about how pensions from the UK are taxed if you are resident in Spain. If you moved from the UK to re琀re in Spain or plan to, the chances are you’ll have a pension or some form of pension income. The tax that you pay will depend on the type of pension or pension income that you receive. To begin with, if you only have pension income from one source and it’s equivalent to less than €14,000 per year, you are not obliged to complete a personal income tax return in Spain. On a similar vein, if you receive a pension paid by the UK Government, for example a Civil Service, Local Government, Fire Service, Police Pension etc, then under the UK / Spain double taxa琀on treaty, this type of pension income is not taxable in Spain.

You’ll only pay tax on this pension in the UK on any amount above the UK income tax allowance, which is £12,570 in the current tax year. If you have other pensions or income however, you are liable to pay tax in Spain on this other income.

How are other UK pensions taxed?

State pension and employment or company pensions are taxed as regular income, so a昀er your allowance the tax rate starts at 19% and rises in 琀ers up to 45%.

UK Personal pensions, such as SIPP’s are taxed differently, as since Brexit they are treated in Spain as re琀rement savings accounts. This means that they a琀ract capital gains tax rather than income tax, which can be poten琀ally advantageous depending on your situa琀on, as the top rate of CGT is a lot lower than the higher rates for income tax.

Annuity income also gets very favourable tax treatment in Spain compared to regular income. As many have ‘bricks and mortar pensions’, it’s worth men琀oning as well that income from ren琀ng residen琀al proper琀es on a long-term basis gets a generous allowance. Only 40% of the net rental profit is taxable.

• 150G UNSALTED BUTTER, SOFTENED

• 8 CANNED PINEAPPLE RINGS IN

• 150G GOLDEN CASTER SUGAR

SYRUP (SYRUP RESERVED)

• 150G SELF-RAISING FLOUR

• 7 MARASCHINO CHERRIES

• 50G DESICCATED COCONUT

• 2-3 TBSP COCONUT RUM OPTIONAL

• 4 LIMES , ZESTED, 1 JUICED

• 2-3 TBSP COCONUT FLAKES, TOASTED

• 2 LARGE EGGS

• WHIPPED CREAM OR ICE CREAM

METHOD: STEP

1: Heat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Butter a 20cm square or 22cm round cake tin. Beat 50g of the butter with the brown sugar, then spread into the base and halfway up the sides of the prepared tin. Cut one of the pineapple rings into quarters, then arrange the whole rings in the tin, putting a cherry in the centre of each. Put a pineapple

Bake for 35-40 mins. Leave to cool in the tin for 5 mins, then turn

out onto a cake board or serving plate. STEP 3: Bring the reserved pineapple syrup to the boil in a medium pan, then stir in the coconut rum (if using), remaining butter and the lime juice. Leave to cool slightly. Drizzle over the cake, then scatter over the coconut flakes & remaining lime zest.

The method of loci is a strategy of memory enhancement which uses visualizations of familiar spatial environments in order to enhance the recall of information. The method of loci is also known as the memory journey, memory palace, or mind palace technique.

5) DON’T TURN TO GOOGLE: Modern

technology has its place, but unfortunately has made us “mentally lazy.” Before you reach for your phone to ask Siri or Google, make a solid attempt to retrieve the information with your mind. This process helps reinforce the neural pathways in your brain.

6) LOSE THE GPS: Another common mistake is relying on the GPS every time you drive. This shrinks a part of our brain called the hippocampus, which is responsible for spatial memory and moving information from short-term to long-term memory. Poor hippocampus health is associated with dementia and memory decline. Unless you’re totally lost, try to get to your destination using your brain.
