Two years ago when my grandmother was 94 I asked her what the hardest part about motherhood was. I had only a few months under my belt and she had years and years of wisdom to share. Her response has stuck with me ever since—”their worries are your worries, it’s always that way. You go through an awful lot of heartache at times but you’re forever connected.” And then she gave me the recipe to her favorite cocktail… an Old Fashioned with Johnny Walker Red topped with a little cherry juice. Equally valuable tips and both have proved to be helpful. I replay her words in my head all the time because it reminds me to never sweat the little things. In celebration of Mother’s Day I’m excited to share our fourth Could I Have That? Mini Magazine with you. I can’t wait for you to flip through this one, which is filled with inspiration from the dreamiest fairytale birthday party to healthy smoothie recipes. Not to mention an expanded gift guide for the mamas. I would love to hear your thoughts so please leave a comment and tell us what you’d love to see more of in the next issue. xx,

Samantha

SARA PRINCE M Y FAV O R I T E M I N I M A G P R O J E C T: Well, our DIY craft story (page 30) was a blast to pull together for obvious and super cute reasons. But then shooting our style story, "Bon Weekend" (page 42) was an absolute dream. Gorgeous location, picture perfect weather, sweetest little models – beyond. Getting to design this sweet mini mag is my favorite job ever. Second to being a mama, that is. SUMMER AS A CHILD: This photo pretty much says it all about my summers as a kid. Sunny Santa Barbara days, I'm in my favorite bathing suit and running toward the ocean, ready to brave the huge (read: miniscule) surf. A nice little reminder that the simplest pleasures are free – and timeless.

SUMMER AS A CHILD: My sweetest summer memories were made on the Adriatic Coast. Each morning started with a long walk to the sea. I swam, daydreamed and played all day. Evenings concluded with a stroll through the nearby city with a cone of gelato in my hand. And if I got lucky, I'd encounter fireflies.

INCY INTERIORS

LIT TLE DESIGN

While researching brands for redesigning Elin’s nursery room I stumbled across this Australian brand Incy Interiors and instantly fell in love with their designer furniture. From beds to bookcases to decor and lighting, they have everything you need to design your little ones room with style. I am currently eyeing one of their Penny beds, once Elin is ready to hop out of her crib.

YOLI AND OTIS

As mommies we all strive to look for children brands that are ethically made. Yoli & Otis take the cake for the cutest yet minimal tops and dresses that are naturally plant dyed and made with 100% pure cotton gauze. Made in Bali, this brand embraces the natural and organic outdoors and it is showcased through their timeless pieces made for spring and summer. Did mention that their Instagram is #goals?

LITTLE MINIS

WELL SUITED We fell hard for the twirlable dresses by Little Minis, created by Kelly Zajfen, so when we heard she collaborated with Olivia and Ocean on some cutie-patootie swimsuits, we had to share the news. The vintage floral prints and sweet halter shape is so good, we can’t wait to get our hands on one this month when the collection debuts on May 12th. You can find them on oliviaandocean.com but act fast because these puppies are going to sell out. Side note: be sure to follow Kelly on instagram who provides loads of mini inspiration when it comes to styling her twins and is quite possibly one of the coolest moms aroud. @littleminis

LOVE SHACK FANCY

MORE LACE AND FRILLS

Not only was I already obsessed with Love Shack Fancy because of their womenswear, but they hit the jackpot when they started theirs kid’s line filled with just as much lace and frills.

Carrying everything from dresses, jumpers, pants,

and hoodies their flower print and pom pom detailing already have Elin gushing. Whisk your little one away to their dream escape with these classic and ethereal pieces.

@loveshackfancy

MABO

BASICS, PLEASE

If you’re looking for essential kid basics, look no further. With organic cotton tees, dresses, and bottoms Mabo has everything from cotton and linen for summer to cozy wools for winter. One of my favorites from their line are their classic pajamas made from 100% organic cotton. Believe me your little one will be fighting to stay in them all day.

ECO CHIC, BEYOND SWEET

Season after season we fall a little more in love with the Stella McCartney Kids collection. From the mix of muted colors to vibrant hits of pink and rainbow shades, to witty sea creatures and knitted mouse booties with whiskers, really what’s not to love? But beyond the obvious cute factor, Stella McCartney gives us Moms even more reason to wrap our kids in her designs. The designer’s drive to create sustainable clothing most definitely spills into the kid’s section. Select pieces are even GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and OCS (Organic Content Standard) certified—translation, the highest standard for organic clothing in the world. Beautiful clothing that not only looks good but doesn’t harm the environment for future generations.

KRETHAUS

TO D D L E R AT WO R K

There’s nothing better than watching a toddler’s attention get sucked into something creative. When Elin started showing interest in drawing and painting I got to work looking for the perfect table just her size that she could sit down at and get busy with her pencils, pens and watercolors—our current medium of choice these days. That’s when I discovered Krethaus a hand-made furniture and accessories line out of Europe. I immediately fell in love with the light colored Patagonia wood and the simple yet sophisticated designs in neutral colors. I decided the Maxxi table and Milk Stools would fit perfectly in an alcove just off of our living room. It was big but I knew she (and friends) would use the space. The walls are now covered with her artwork, which she proudly shows off, and doubles as the kids “dinner table” when friends come over. But the best part? How easily the white lacquered tabletop cleans up from paint remnants and crayon. Be sure to check out the rest of the collection which you can purchase at Smallable and Studio Mini. @krethaus

I

t’s hard enough to keep ourselves on a healthy track, let alone thinking of our family and loved ones as well. What I have found that works to keep my family feeling their absolute best, is always keeping healthy food in the fridge. This one is a must, that way there is always something nutritional to reach for, instead of grabbing a processed snack (which we all know are so prevalent surrounding kids' events, schools etc) because you’re starving in between work and soccer practice! Cooking at home is another staple for us. You can throw together some Zoodels, a little Philosophie Green Dream powder, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, tahini, lemon, salt and pepper and have yourself a clean pasta night. Plus bonus left overs for kids school lunch the next day– so much YES. My husband and I are loving Eat Organix lately, a clean food delivery system, for those nights when you just don't have it in you to pull something together. Play around with the many food delivery brands that are out there now, and find one that works for your family's needs. My favorite scheduling App, UpTo, helps me keep track of meals throughout the week, what I have planned for them, or if we are going out to eat. It's super easy to use and anything that helps me keep it all together, I’m for! We love to start the day out with a Superfood Smoothie of course! I know we will all be satisfied and get through the morning crunch. And I love giving my kiddos a healthy, wholesome start to the day – no sugar crashes in Kindergarten here! COULD

This is my all time favorite chocolate smoothie. Our whole family loves it, so I usually just make one giant batch for all of us to enjoy – a YAY for busy Mamas on the go! It may look like a lot of ingredients but you will quickly be transformed once this smoothie enters your life. The benefits are endless to this smoothie, thats one of the many things I adore about it! Cacao is high in antioxidants and magnesium, maca is great for balancing hormones and providing natural energy without a crash, the mix of cacao, maca and reishi will seriously give you high vibes throughout your body! The avocado will keep you full from the healthy fats, as well as keep your skin glowing. INGREDIENTS

1 cup dairy-free mylk (almond, flax, coconut or hemp mylk) 2 heaping Tbsp cacao magic superfood + protein powder 1Tbsp of Maca powder 1 Tbsp green dream superfood + protein powder 1 Tbsp Green Dream or Cacao Magic coconut butter 1 Tbsp macadamia nut butter or crunchy almond butter 1/2 avocado 2 frozen bananas 3 dates, pitted 3 figs 1 cup leafy greens of choice (spinach is the most neutral in flavor) 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 drops chocolate stevia large handful fresh mint (optional) 1 tsp peppermint extract (optional)

MAKE

Combine all ingredients in high speed blender. Add cacao nibs, goji berries, or your favorite superfood granola and fresh berries on top – and dig in!

HERE'S HOW:

1. GATHER the goods: loome, yarn, scissors, hair rubberbands, imagination. 2. WRAP yarn around your loome a bunch of times. pile it on. 3. CUT a length of yarn, tie center of wrap tightly. then wrap around the eother way and tie again. 4. REMOVE yarn from loome and cut loops. but keep the two long ends from step 3 long – you'll need 'em in a sec! 5. TRIM your pom pom to your heart's content. the more you trim, the more dense your pom pom will be. the less you trim, the more shaggy. 6. FINISH by taking the two long ends and securing them on a hair tie with a tight knot. 7. WEAR and be happy – pom poms have a way of making even the cutest things cuter!

QUICK TIPS: NEUTRAL + NEON we like neutral yarn on a neon hair tie for the perfect mix of soft and bright.

STRING THEM ALONG don't stop at hair ties! make garlands galore. PERFECT YOUR PRESENTS tie a couple poms on top of gifts FORK IT OVER psssst! you can make the sweetest, mini poms with a fork! When Alice Ryan Miller looked out into her blooming spring garden in Montecito, California, it sparked an idea for a dreamy birthday party for her daughter Elliott Grace. We couldn’t wait to pick her brain on how she pulled off the vision and get the scoop on the amazing team that brought it to life.

81 WHAT SPARKED THE IDEA FOR THE PARTY?

The gardens of the house where we live are like a magical forest with oak trees, a stone bridge and secret tunnel. I wanted to have my little girl Elliott to have a birthday with her friends outside playing dress up. I alway love a beautiful birthday cake made by Elizabeth Colling, and when she showed me one with wildflower flowers, the idea of the party came together. ANY SPECIAL RESOURCES YOU USED?

Gina Andrews of Bon Fortune is always my dream partner, she has a whimsical eye for creativity and an exacting vision for perfection. Her team have the same skills. She is the most effortless planner, my forever go-to person for parties and more. She always finds the most exquisite details and together we mix from my own collections to make it work. Modern Queen Kids was founded by my dear friends Hilary Rosinkranz and Stacy Rosen. They source unique ribbons, lace, velvet and hand make the most beautiful accessories. Elliott has loved the pieces that she has collected and they are so precious to her. All of the little girls were styled by Hilary and Stacy, little sparkly hair and make up details too - they were in heaven. My talented friend Andrea Rembeck, founder of Tutu du Monde made the dress up day a reality - all of the little girls were in heaven with their dreamy dresses. THERE WERE SO MANY SURPRISES THAT DAY, WHAT WAS THE HIT?

Little Horse on The Prairie came with her sweetest farmyard animals. My little ones fell in love with Jemima Puddle duck, she was led around on a ribbon leash - I loved that moment. The miniature pony was the perfect size for Elin Mae and that was lovely. Little girls love bunnies so they made us all smile. HOW BIG WAS THE PARTY?

I think we had 8 little girls with their mamas, I love a small party, I find that little ones can often become overwhelmed when there are too many people ANY TIPS OR THINGS YOU WOULD DO DIFFERENTLY NEXT TIME?

I wish I kept a more watchful eye on Elliott Grace so that she doesn't open the presents and not keep the cards with each gift. Embarrassed to say we have still not written her pretty Ellen Weldon thank you notes! n LITTLE BLACK BOOK: PARTY PLANNER: Bon Fortune STYLING: Modern Queen Kids WARDROBE: Tutu de Monde HAIR AND MAKE-UP: Martin Lane Christopher, Kevin Spencer CAKE: Elizabeth Colling PHOTOGRAPHY: Blue Gabor ANIMALS: Little Horse on the Prairie
