Open Day Prompts New Members For Thetford U3A We recently held our open day at the Carnegie. This was the first one for two years due to Covid restrictions and we were hoping that it would be successful. The Mayor and Mayoress opened the day and wished the U3A good luck and hoped we would soon be able to recruit a few committee members. Our group leaders came with their items of interest, arts/crafts, book club, dog walking, photography group were just a few things to hear about plus our music group were strumming quietly in the background. Our Membership Secretary Gil Roberts was snowed under with requests to join. The Police and Citizens Advice teams were also there to chat and give advice to various members of the public, unfortunately the fire brigade were unable to attend but at the end of the afternoon we were very pleased that so many eo le came along to see us mainly to find out about our U3A. There was also interest with the new members wanting to join the sign language group, we had to stop meetings earlier in the year, again due to Covid, but with renewed interest, there are plans to restart. If you are a member and would like to come along please ring me for details of venues and times. This is a basic class that we are starting at the very beginning. It is a fun group as well with plenty of laughs!

On 9th December we are having our Christmas Party for members only. We have invited the Mayor and Mayoress again and we are delighted that they have agreed to open the afternoon and will stay with us to enjoy the entertainment which will be the Ruby Sisters. The bar will be open and also teas/coffees will be available. We are all looking forward to this as again we missed it last year. All future talks for next year are on our website, hopefully there will be at least one you will enjoy. Free for members to attend and £2 for visitors.
