Adding a conservatory or orangery is a cost-effective way of extending the home and enjoying the luxury of extra space. Nobody does that better than Ensign Conservatory Roof Solutions Ltd, a proven and trusted expert in the field. With revolutionary glazing and insulation technology, Ensign can deliver these stylish new structures, precision-made for your own particular property from a huge range of designs. They can be fully-built and functional within a matter of weeks and come with a 10 year insurance-backed guarantee. Ensign conservatories and orangeries utilise cutting-edge technology that stops them being too hot in summer and too cold in winter and makes them comfortable to use as a yearround living space. The company can also adapt existing conservatories with the revolutionary roofing and temperature control systems that exceed building regulation standards and make the conservatory a joy to use throughout the seasons. Working to the highest specifications of the industry, Ensign uses up-to-the-minute roofing systems to replace old-
style polycarbonate or glass roofs with energy-efficient, lightweight tiles, enabling owners to set their own ideal temperatures. As a bonus, the systems also cut energy bills, reduce the noise from rainfall and cut out sun glare, so people can comfortably watch TV and enjoy premium screen time on their laptops, tablets and mobile phones. Ensign also provides replacement windows and doors using the Profile 22 systems, including composite doors and on-trend aluminium bi-fold doors for those stunning uninterrupted views, all sealed with ecofriendly Planitherm technology for maximum energy efficiency and equipped with high security locking systems. Unique, idyllic & luxurious treetop retreat HappenOak is the ultimate treehouse hideaway set amid the branches of a delightful Cambridgeshire woodland. Craftsman-built for privacy, romance and relaxation, this octagonal masterpiece is exquisitely luxurious and, in daytime, flooded with light. Guests enjoy features including a king-sized bed, walk-in shower and underfloor heating. For many, joy is a hot soak in a rolltop bath set on the veranda overlooking a 10 acre wildflower meadow. Others take their meals al fresco or sip something mouth-wateringly moreish as they face amazing sunsets and abundant wildlife such as deer, hares and owls. The treehouse offers unforgettable safari-style experience to one and all as they get close to nature, enjoying the chirruping of birds and rustling of leaves, perhaps while snuggling together in a swing-chair for two. There’s an extraordinary sense of calm that takes root as HappenOak works its magic, soothing away any stress or tension to leave a sense of oneness with the landscape, yet still connected with modern utilities including TV and Wi-Fi. Master builder Bruce Obank and his
wife, Penny, fulfilled one ambition when they found the farmland property in 2009. It sat within rolling countryside about nine miles south east of Cambridge and was perfect for them and their family. The next project was to build their own home. With that completed, Bruce’s enthusiasm took him to one particular spot among the trees, totally secluded from the main house and ideal as a haven of peace and solitude for one or an idyllic retreat for couples. It was here that, in 2019, he realised his vision for the treehouse. Bruce said: “Initially it was just for myself and Penny. I wasn’t thinking of renting it out, but feedback from friends who stayed was so positive we decided to do that, although we still use it ourselves. “Now I plan to extend the decking area on the outside to build a sauna room overlooking the fields. That should be ready by winter!” HappenOak, Stocking Toft, Wickham Rd, Balsham, Cambridge CB21 4DZ; T 07842 397785 E Bruce.obank@ icloud.com www.happenoak.co.uk

Luck’s in and muck’s out with 5 Star Recycling 5 Star Recycling is Worcestershire’s premier service for rubbish removal, scrap metal collection and waste recycling. It guarantees to dispose of materials in a responsible, environmentally friendly way that’s also surprisingly affordable. Customers even get paid top rates to have their unwanted scrap vehicles taken away. Owned and operated by brothers Terry and Ricky, the 5 Star waste management service is fully licensed and insured for waste disposal and processing. That means customers can feel reassured that their unwanted items are going where they will do good rather than harm. They won’t end up fly-tipped in country lanes, as so often happens when rogue collectors without either ethics or credentials offer cheap take-away services. When items still have use left in them, Terry and Ricky even offer them free to new homes through their Facebook page, inviting donations to Mappfest, the Malvern music festival which supports a number of charities. In only nine months of operation,
they have already built up a loyal customer base and earned more than 200 glowing 5 Star reviews, with phrases like: “Fantastic service,” “Would highly recommend,” and: “I’m impressed!” The brothers operate throughout Worcestershire and surrounding areas, playing their part in the quest for a cleaner Britain by conscientious recycling and disposal of discarded items. They also offer a vehicle recovery service for people whose vehicles break down. Terry says: “We’re very environmentally conscious and love the fact that what we do helps limit the amount of waste that goes into landfill. We offer a friendly, reliable, honest service at a good price, and when it comes to scrap cars, we deal with all the paperwork, too. A great deal of our material is recycled, and people can follow our Facebook page, where we regularly post offers and give updates about our work.” T 07738 099 934 or 07712 429 083, E 5starrecyclingltd@gmail.com www.5starrecycling.co.uk Facebook @ 5 Star Recycling

HOTEL INDIGO
Stratford-upon-Avon Tried & Tested Review Our stay at the Hotel Indigo, Stratford-uponAvon was fantastic from start to finish. The reception staff made us feel so welcome on arrival and the hotel was absolutely beautiful with its mix of original features and modern touches. There are 93 guest bedrooms at this amazing boutique hotel. They come in three beautiful room designs inspired by Shakespeare and reflecting local history. The Tudor rooms in the original 16th century building reflect the tradition of the building and have views to New Place, Shakespeare’s home in later life. The Georgian townhouse is inspired by Shakespeare’s theatre with rooms combining luxury and homely charm. The Contemporary Rooms in the new wing are elegantly sophisticated, drawing on the 20th century past. All guest rooms have super-comfy Hypnos beds with luxury Egyptian cotton linen, spa-inspired bathrooms, Nespresso coffee machines, 40inch flat screen TVs with multiple channels and IHG Connect seamless
internet connection. Our room was very spacious, with a fantastically comfy bed, a shower with speakers so you could listen to music during your ablutions using upmarket Bramley complimentary toiletries. There was a mini-bar as well as tea and coffee making facilities. Those toiletries were so lovely I bought some to take home. They also sell the most beautiful smelling Hotel Indigo candles and stunning spa products, such as Dead sea salts. We ate in The Woodsman restaurant, which is headed by restauranteur Mike Robinson, co-owner of the Michelin-starred Harwood Arms in Fulham. Mike’s passion for locally sourced produce and sustainable wild food is renowned and everything at the Hotel Indigo is ethically sourced and all meat raised to the very highest standards of animal welfare. Certainly, our experience of the restaurant was outstanding! To start I tried the whipped chicken liver parfait with red grapes, verjus and chargrilled bread. My partner opted for wood pigeon pastroma with green beans,
almonds, pickled pear and herbs. For the mains we had dry aged Hereford beef rump, glazed cheek, Welsh rarebit leeks, trompette mushrooms with a side dish of ‘dirty’ mash, crisp shredded venison, sourdough crumb and deer gravy. What a delight it all was! The food was mouth watering. We were honestly lost for words about just how wonderful our meal was, the best we have ever experienced. We were also in a great location with multiple boutiques, restaurants and shops on the doorstep, not to mention the gorgeous riverfront walks. We would most strongly recommend our readers to visit Hotel Indigo Stratford-upon-Avon

Dress up your fence As Spring begins to bloom, you might well be looking to freshen up your garden. There are quick wins to be made in terms of planting, weeding and cutting the lawn, but have you also thought about replacing your garden fencing? Most people only think about their garden fence when it blows down in a storm or starts to split or rot…. but think on. A fence can also offer a quick, stylish update to your outdoor space. Use a fence not just around the perimeter of your garden but also to create zones - get creative and look at some alternatives that can really freshen things up. There are many decorative fencing styles available to really enhance and unlock the potential of your garden. The vertical orientation on feather edge panels mixes up the usual horizontal boards seen on basic panels and still maintains the height needed for privacy in a back garden. Add a curved top panel for a softer look.
For a contemporary look, horizontal slatted panels are popular: they have a lengthening effect as they draw the eye away, and along the fencing so can be useful for making your space for larger. Choose from narrower or wider slats: both make a style statement. In your front garden or to zone off different areas of your back garden, a lower height with decorative features still gives privacy but adds flow of light, again to create the illusion of space which is useful if you are zoning off the patio or allotment area or shielding a shed or bins, also stating clear boundaries at the front of a property. Trellis patterns are varied and can be angular or curved, with open designs or rather more obscured. Some will be enhanced by some fence paint or stain or by trailing plants growing around and up – the choice is yours!

Wales Rural escapes don’t come more idyllic than the selection our advertisers offer in scenic hidden corners of the UK. Choose any of these destinations and you’ll soon feel you’re in an entirely different world to the land of concrete, roadworks and traffic jams you left behind. These are all stress-busting locations, rich in the relaxation wrought by being close to nature, whether you’re glamping or perhaps enjoying a little indulgent ‘me time’ in a quality bed & breakfast. They enable people to wind down and enjoy an unhurried quality of life. Once you’re nicely chilled out there’s lots to enjoy out and about. Take the Brecon Beacons National Park. Its imposing mountains provide an exhilarating backdrop for walkers, while attractive towns such as Llandovery and Brecon itself have charming shops and great places to reward yourself after all those outdoor exertions. Also in Wales, the island of Anglesey offers great variety, wonderful beaches and an exquisite offering for anyone interested in geology, with more than 100 different kinds of rocks to be hunted down, among them pillow lava, deep red jasper, lime green epidote and milky calcite. Castle lovers will love Beaumaris, the last and largest of Edward I’s ‘Iron Ring’ of fortresses in North Wales. Once discovered, the big skies of North Yorkshire beckon almost everyone’s inner explorer to immerse themselves in the national parks of both the moors and the dales, although there is plenty of scope, too, for those who prefer to drive, or take the North York Moors Railway. For those heading south, the Kent Downs are an equally appealing Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, stretching from the London/Surrey borders to the White Cliffs of Dover.
Hidden Gem
Brook Cottage Shepherd Huts is the recipient of both AA and Visit Wales Gold Awards and has also featured in The Times 25 Best Glamping Stays in the UK and The Guardian Top 10 Best New Glamping Sites. Each hut comes complete with ensuite shower room, double bed, fully fitted kitchen, tables and chairs (both inside and out) for quiet, intimate dinners and a wood-burning stove to make those chilly evenings extra cosy.

Along the way you can stop off for boat trips, canoeing, horse riding, bagging Munros or spotting dolphins, as you please. The possibilities are unlimited and frequently breathtaking. and include visiting the most northerly village on the mainland, John O’ Groats. Offa’s Dyke Serious walkers can’t resist the challenge of Offa’s Dyke, the epic earthwork masterminded by its namesake King of Mercia in the 8th century. Stretching 177 miles from the friendly beach resort of Prestatyn in the north to the Severn Estuary at Chepstow in the south, this National Trail undulates through scenic countryside, roughly following the England/Wales border through eight counties. Offa’s Dyke was constructed as a ditch and earth rampart, around 26 feet deep from the bottom of the ditch to the top of the mound, and 88 feet wide. Much has now disappeared under farmland, but the walkers preserve its memory as they trek on through Brecon Beacons National Park and three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Wye Valley, Shropshire Hills and Clywdian Range. Some 3,000 each year join the ranks of the ‘End to Enders,’ completing the whole route, often taking about two weeks to do so. Many more traverse selected sections, perhaps seeking more of a picnic experience than the feat of a lifetime. Popular spots to spend time include the beautiful ruins of Tintern Abbey, Monmouthshire, on the banks of the River Wye. One great vantage point is the Devil’s Pulpit, a limestone pillar on the path, where it is said the devil preached to the monks below, tempting them to desert the edifice, long before Henry VIII destroyed it. The plentiful bookshops of Hay-on-Wye are another tourist magnet and there is an Offa’s Dyke Centre in Knighton, Powys. Find out more from www.offasdyke.org.uk
Located only 300m from the Beginning and End Structure to the Offa’s Dyke Path, The Beaches Hotel offers a warm welcome to all. You will find the local train station only a 20-minute walk away, and should you wish to drive, leave your vehicle in our carpark, and take the train to your starting point. The 4-star Beaches Hotel boasts 80 luxurious guest rooms of all sizes, with all reservations inclusive of a continental and full cooked breakfast each morning of your stay. As our guest take advantage of our swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. Enjoy dinner in the evening, in our Promenade Bistro | Bar, and watch the sun set over the stunning Irish Sea. Small quiet site on a working dairy farm in the Wye Valley Set well back from any main roads, the pitches here are pretty peaceful, although you may well hear a tractor or two going about their business from time to time. And of course you’ll most likely be able to listen in on the resident cows too: they generally graze the fields next to the site, eating up all the grass that helps them produce properly creamy milk. Guests can sample the fresh milk for themselves as it’s bottled and sold at the farm gate shop (and some of it goes into producing ice cream, which you can also pick up here alongside fresh eggs and other local produce). Getting out for a walk is a must around these parts – there are lots of trails to follow in nearby forests, or you can set out on a woodland trail from the farm to reach the Offa’s Dyke Path and Devil’s Pulpit viewpoint in about five minutes. Canoeing, crazy golf and the treetop trails of Go Ape are all within a 20-minute drive for a bit of different activity. To find out more, or to book please visit

Prioritise your mental wellbeing with Laura Wellness Centre Looking after our mental health has perhaps never been so important since the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the turmoil in Ukraine and the prospect of rampant inflation. Thankfully, the Laura Wellness Centre in Worcester offers a safe, tranquil space where people can experience counselling, psychotherapy and complementary treatments to help them not just to survive but to thrive, even in the midst of turmoil. The Laura Wellness Centre is run by Laura Baluta, a highly qualified psychologist and psychotherapist with great experience of working with people of all ages, from young children to the very elderly. These she blends uniquely to suit each individual client and their needs.
relationship difficulties, stress and mental discomfort in general. Discovering negative attitudes and behaviours enables them to be changed toward more constructive attitudes with better outcomes. They also help to generate greater resilience to cope with what comes and make improvements. Laura says: “COVID is still a focus. During the past couple of months, I’ve seen more people suffering from agoraphobia because they have grown so used to staying home. Some can’t even bear having the rest of the family inside their house. Also, the war in Ukraine is having an effect. We are bombarded with so many distressing images every day and there is a palpable fear about how it will develop. “Our therapy is about giving them a safe place to voice everything that is in their head, being able to express their feelings without being judged and learning to live with all this uncertainty that is in our lives.”
Laura’s techniques help people to identify the root causes of their anxiety, depression, low self-esteem,

Absolutely 100% so happy working with Laura. She makes me feel like a normal person and everything will be fine. Nothing is too much trouble
When I first arrived I have already had 2 other counsellours but within 3 sessions Laura had found the root cause
Reflecting on where I was a year ago, the growth and confidence I’ve made in a short space of time is excellent. Laura has been such a a support during a particularly sad and stressful time.

Give your child a safer journey today Parents can enjoy peace of mind while driving their young children around by investing in rear-facing child seats from Safe Journey Car Seats. Founded by a concerned mum, this Midlands business specialises in supplying and fitting superior car seats which have passed the world’s most stringent safety tests, ensuring that in the event of an accident, the child has the best possible levels of protection. All products sold by Safe Journey Car Seats have to have passed the optional Swedish Plus Test, which was developed from real life studies of accidents in which children suffered severe injuries to their head and neck. These crash tests use higher speeds and shorter braking distances than the European standard and also measure effects from both forward and rear impacts. The results ensure that children are protected from excessive forces on the neck which can be life-threatening in a collision. Safe Journey Car Seats currently stocks seats and accessories made by Axkid, Britax, Avionaut and BeSafe, with rear-facing seats for children from birth to seven years and high-backed boosters for those up to 12.
Founder Sarah Jones started researching the safety of car seats when shopping for the first infant carrier for her oldest child, now nearly five. Now with a second child, she offers free, impartial advice for parents, whether or not they become her customers, assisted by a trained assistant, Lucy. Sarah also carries out an expert fitting service to ensure that each seat is properly securely for optimal safety in the customers’ own particular vehicles, including those which have been adapted or customised. She can visit local customers to do this, or customers can travel to her in Stourbridge. “All our seats are rear facing,” says Sarah. “That’s because a child aged under five is five times more likely to be killed or seriously injured in a forwardfacing seat. “Child safety is our first and greatest concern.” Safe Journey Car Seats, Stourbridge, West Midlands T 07880 491678 E info@safejourneycarseats.co.uk www.safejourneycarseats.co.uk Facebook and Instagram @ safejourneycarseats
