Tours and tastings all year round at award winning local vineyard

Many people still think the sun-soaked vineyards of France, Italy and Spain hold the best of the global wine products, but in less than 20 years, Little Oak Vineyard in the Cotswolds has won awards in some of the most prestigious competitions in the world. Why not discover the company’s highly palatable winning ways with a vineyard visit, including a tour, tastings and even an optional lunch of quality local products.

Lasting 90 minutes, or two hours with lunch, visits include either a walking tour or an indoor introduction, depending on the season. They include insights into the ups, downs, tribulations and triumphs of British viniculture, followed by the chance to sample several delicious wines, which may be aromatic, crisp and refreshing or smooth and full-bodied, depending on weather during the season. The wine tastings are educational but also great fun.

The Little Oak’s Seyval Blanc won a Bronze Medal in the 2019 Decanter competition, followed by a Gold

Medal in 2020 with 50 Greatest Sparkling Wines of the World for its outstanding English Sparkling wine. They also make an exquisite brandy and last year planted their first vines for red wine.

Aimed at couples or adult groups of up to 15 people in winter or 30 in summer, the visits can be gifted by

e-voucher, enabling recipients to choose their own date.

Many people find them so engaging they take up the opportunity to lease a vine for a year, participating in its care and harvesting and enjoying two bottles of the delicious results, bottled with personalised labels. Lessees are invited to wine tasting events and often renew when the year runs out.

Little Oak Vineyard was founded back in 2005 by owner Steve Wilson, starting with

an experimental planting and overcoming challenges from British weather to mildew. Today, supported by his partner and vineyard manager Gemma Riley, the enterprise has over 1700 vines covering a hectare of Cotswold countryside.

Taking Control of Your Health and Wellness with Adrienne Potter Wellness.

Do vou struggle with health anxieties? Perhaps worrying about a family history of heart disease, stroke, diabetes or cancer? If the answer is yes, what steps have you taken to understand your personal health?

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start, there is a minefield of information out there with a plethora of therapies, but how much of it is true and how much is just hype?

When you’re investing in yourself, it pays to turn to someone who doesn’t just talk the talk, you want someone who has also walked the walk, someone with a first hand knowledge. Adrienne is just that person. At the age of 50, having been diagnosed with cancer three times, she finally took steps to understand more about the mind and body and how your environment impacts your health.

Last year Adrienne received a significant diagnosis, discovering that the cancer was so wide spread that treatment was going to need to be pretty radical. Having previously experienced surgery, chemotherapy and hormone treatment, she realised that in order to make a significant impact a more natural approach was needed to boost the body into recovery rather than deplete it with potentially damaging chemicals.

Since then, Adrienne has undergone a range of holistic treatment driven by her positive mindset.

With the knowledge gained through research, Adrienne, a Solution Centred Hypnotherapist and Wellness Coach, now works together with clients to offer bespoke packages in a bid to help them to take control of their own health and wellness.

Adrienne offers appointments face to face in her private clinic in Bewdley, Worcestershire, or online over zoom, meaning that distance is not an issue and allowing Adrienne the flexibility to work with you wherever you are in the world.

Alpacas, goats and donkeys are some of the most popular attractions at Caerhun Farm glamping and camping site near Bangor, North Wales. They are all tame and approachable and guests of all ages can get hands-on with looking after them at this family-orientated, dogfriendly location.

The spot is ideally placed for exploring the spectacular Snowdonia National Park and its numerous attractions, including the world class coast, castles, industrial heritage and the awesome adventure zones of Zip World.

Caerhun has two camping pods designed for two adults, one furnished bell tent which sleeps four and two unfurnished bell tents, each for up to six people to bring their own camping gear. There is also a vintage caravan for a couple – perhaps with a young child – and, in summer, a campsite where people can pitch their own tents as they wish. The pods overlook a wildflower meadow while the campsite offers beautiful mountain views. There is lots of room for relaxation, play and enjoying nature at its awesome best. Guests have use of an immaculate

shower and toilet block plus a cosy communal area, The Cabin, open all hours, with laundry and washing up facilities, a fridge/freezer and food preparation area with microwave, toaster and drink making facilities which creates a convivial buzz, especially for solo campers perhaps walking the Wales Coastal Path. Camping stoves, barbecues and fire pits are available to hire.

Site operators Mark and Frances run the site with a friendly, laid-back vibe where people have everything they need and wonderful surroundings in which to enjoy it.

Frances says: “We went camping a lot with our own children and every trip we picked out what we liked, say a washing machine or a microwave. Here, we’ve provided everything we would have wanted ourselves.”

The animals are all ‘rescues’ and are a key attraction of Caerhun. Mark says: “All of them are hand-reared and placid and they love a fuss. You get great selfies with them!”

Vintage vehicles have been converted to comfy glamping accommodation with fun themes as part of an amazing off-grid holiday experience in the pristine English countryside of Intake Farm, Staffordshire, a short distance from the Peak District. Guests meet and mingle daily with friendly farm animals of old breeds including llamas, pigs, sheep, goats and horses. They also get an ecoeducation from people living the hands-on farm lifestyle using selfsustaining and caring methods and perhaps even a safe introduction to wild camping.

Those unique glamping units have been carefully contrived to team comfort with green utility. They come with proper beds, solar lighting, gasheated showers and private compost toilets. The Greatest Showman is a 1950s showman’s van with a circus theme, to sleep four. White Cloud is a converted bus with a Native American Indian vibe, also for four, while Jesse James, is a coach adapted to capture the cowboy culture of the American Wild West and sleeps seven.

There is also a campsite with five pitches, either on grass or in woodland, each able to take up to

eight people, so a maximum of 40 people at one time. Some guests sleep in hammocks, under the stars. Run by green living devotees David and Maria, Intake Farm emphasises the experience of holidaying close to nature and enjoying a wholesome sense of adventure. Vehicles are parked at a distance and music stops strictly at 11pm.

Breakfasts are included for glamping pod guests and feature foods produced on the farm, a full English on day one including bacon, sausage, black pudding and fresh eggs and on day two a continental-

style alternative. These ingredients are also available for campers to buy on-site.

Intake Farm is between three great towns; Stoke-on-Trent, famous for potteries and Alton Towers theme park; Ashbourne, ‘Gateway to Dovedale,’ replete with listed buildings and Leek, celebrated for specialist local foods and links with Arts & Crafts period designer William Morris.

Quirky and romantic getaways await the adventurous who decide to sojourn with Toad and Snail, against the beautiful, mountainous backdrop of the Bannau Brycheiniog, formerly known as the Brecon Beacons. The accommodation has been designed for people with either nostalgia or appreciation for yesteryear. Guests will find themselves glamping with the comforts and convenience of home, but with authentic memorabilia for a memorably vintage twist.

Toad is a brake van or ‘toad wagon’ from a post-World War Two Great Western Railway train and restored to romantic self-catering

accommodation for two. It is packed with oak and mahogany features and period artefacts from a luggage rack to a brass kitchen sink. It incorporates a double bed, living area with log burning stove, fitted kitchen, plus a small but perfect bathroom complete with sink, shower and flushing toilet. The wagon is elevated and set on real railway tracks, with outdoor decking for barbecue dining under starstudded skies.

The restoration and fitting out has been done by owners Jamie and Claire Griffiths, both passionate about architectural salvage. They decided on the nostalgia theme because

Neath and Brecon Railway ran alongside their property until 1962. They also offer a site for up to five camping vehicles, to let exclusively to members of the Caravan & Motorhome Club.

Claire says: “This is a beautiful location, very relaxing. It’s perfect for exploring Pen y Fan – the highest mountain in South Wales - and the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park.”

The site is near ‘Waterfall Country,’ a conservation area where four rivers wind down deep gorges over dramatic waterfalls to join the River Neath. There’s a great variety of outdoor activities, such as walking,

running and cycling, but also much to suit people interested in industrial heritage. For rail enthusiasts, a visit to the Brecon Mountain Railway is a must. Steam trains transport passengers through the stunning National Park from Pant, three miles north of Merthyr Tydfil, to Torpantau, high in the mountains, along the length of Taf Fechan Reservoir and with a stop off at Pontsticill.

Guests enjoy superb accommodation with a top notch 5 Star rating from Visit Wales when they stay in any of six splendid self-catering properties in Pencerrig Holiday Collection near scenic Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, formerly the Brecon Beacons. While many visitors may feel the call of the capital, Cardiff, for its extraordinary range of sporting and cultural attractions, others will be fascinated and moved by the more local industrial heritage of Merthyr Tydfil. Yet others will want to blast down the amazing trails of BikePark Wales, one of the most exciting mountain

biking venues in Europe.

Pencerrig Holiday Collection is a group of high quality, family-owned properties, four in the picturesque village of Pontsticill, in the Taf Fechan Valley and two in Merthyr Tydfil. They include two log cabins for two people, a former farmer’s cottage, a four bed bunkhouse, the spacious Walkers and, even bigger, The Croft, which sleeps four but also has sofa and trundle beds available.

Owner Dougie and Clare McCombie started letting properties to holidaymakers in 2020 and have already earned an ‘exceptional’ 9.6 scoring from Booking.com, with

guests especially appreciating the picturesque locations with mountain views and, in Pontsticill, proximity to a reservoir and the vintage attractions of Brecon Mountain Railway. The properties themselves are extremely well equipped with furniture, fittings, accessories, appliances and luxuries, with everything to make people feel fully at home, from cable TV to board games.

Welcoming pubs with good food and locally brewed beers lie within easy walking distance, as does the railway station, so drivers needn’t brave city traffic to enjoy the delights of Cardiff, Swansea or Newport. The

former colliery site in Hirwaun has been restored as Zip World Tower, an adventure hub with activities including Phoenix, billed as the fasted seated zipline in the world.

Clare says: “There is so much to see and do around here, people really are spoiled for choice.”

Catering for anyone from seasoned yoga devotees to absolute beginners, the experiences hosted by Yogastarr equip people with tools which could permanently change their lives for the better.

Yogastarr is run by experienced teacher Alison Jennings, who embraces the diversity of ancient yogic traditions and brings a unique combination of warmth, compassion and humour to the role. Alison’s approach is eclectic and inclusive. She encourages students to focus both on physical benefits such as improved strength, vitality and mobility while also exploring the mental and

emotional advantages to be felt through breath control, mindfulness and introspection. People in her classes also gain from her background as a graduate in American literature and as a counsellor and psychotherapist.

Opportunities to work with Alison are offered through Zoom and prerecorded videos as well as in-person classes. Alison also runs mentorship programmes and offers mentoring to yoga teachers. She has been running yoga retreats for 10 years and you can now book onto one of her amazing retreat experiences in idyllic and ecofriendly locations.

If you fancy a long weekend of yoga combined with a book club and wild swimming join her on 20-23 October 2023, at idyllic Garth Barns in the

unspoiled countryside of Llanidloes, central Wales. Accommodation is in superb barn conversions surrounded by beautiful hills and valleys. A springfed pond for wild swimming, gym and Finnish sauna provide relaxation between sessions. Participants are invited to read a specific book beforehand to provide a shared spiritual, literary and self-help element. Other retreats last a full week and take place at the Rodis Studios in Zakynthos, Greece. This year’s dates are fully booked but you can book for 14-21 June, 2024 or 3-10 September, 2024 now. Early booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. Alongside morning and evening yoga classes come the wider holiday experience enjoying coastal activities such as swimming

and snorkelling in the crystal clear Ionian Sea, soaking up the Mediterranean lifestyle of the nearby town and taking tourist trips to places of interest.

Yogastarr retreats offer quality accommodation in twin, triple or double rooms. If you join a retreat you can expect a sincerely warm welcome, delicious vegetarian fare, laughter and friendship.

With cliffs, woodlands, sparkling waters and glorious long, clean beaches, Gower was the first place in Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 70 square miles of the Gower Peninsula attracts walkers, birdwatchers, sunbathers, surfers, cave explorers and picnickers.

The scene is not always peaceful. There have been at least 300 shipwrecks around this corner of the coast. The most visible is Helvetica, a Norwegian barque which foundered in 1887, having set sail from eastern Canada laden with 500 tonnes of timber bound for Swansea Harbour.

Sightseers can readily spot

Helvetica’s hulk poking up at low water in Rhossili Bay. Here, they can also walk the causeway to the rocky island of Worm’s Head, named for its serpent shape, or visit Gower Heritage Centre at Three Cliffs Bay, housed in a working 12th century flour mill, demonstrating living history, old crafts and bygone ways of life.

Luxury 5* Self Catering Accommodation in the heart of the Gower

The Gower. Both beautiful and unspoilt. Famous for its breathtaking coastline and array of beaches, a favourite destination for walkers and surfers alike. Hael Farm Cottage is situated in a secluded area of Southgate. The stunning Pwlldu Bay is a short walk to the East and the equally impressive Three Cliffs to the West. The cottage provides direct access to the coastal path and is centrally located to explore the beautiful Gower and captivating coastline.

Unique Retreats – ESCAPE TO THE GOWER PENINSULA

If keeping children happy is a priority for your holiday, Cornwall’s Coombe Mill Family Farm Holidays are for you. Set on a 30-acre farm estate between beautiful Bodmin Moor and the north Cornish coast, the site was originally a 16th century water mill. Now, run by former teachers Anya and Emma, it provides exquisite self-catering holiday accommodation in a magical setting with woodland, meadows, lakes and a picturesque portion of the River Camel, all offering exciting activities for everyone from the youngest explorer to the biggest adult kid.

Accommodation is in luxurious Scandinavian lodges which sleep four to eight people, all wheelchair accessible with downstairs bathrooms and inclusive for all. Four have purpose-made playrooms, and the site is particularly favoured by families and for parties of mixed generations. Guests frequently book several lodges together for special celebration breaks and group holidays.

Outdoor play includes a

trampoline, zipline, den building zone, fairy garden and nature trail, plus safe river swimming, badminton and crazy golf. There is an indoor play area for the under fives, a games room for older children and a purpose-built barbeque area.

One highlight is the daily tractor tour of the animals, a safe and supervised chance for children to feed and get close to resident chickens, ducks, micropigs, alpacas, goats, deer and ponies. While one parent may join them on the run, another might well enjoy personal space in the on-site gym, or perhaps cycling the Camel Trail which begins five minutes from Coombe Mill. Private fishing is also available.

Off-site, nearby Cornish highlights include the mystical town of Tintagel – supposed birthplace of King Arthur - the foodie paradise of Padstow and Doc Martin’s harbour village of Port Isaac.

The North coast is less than 10 miles away and the South coast about 15 miles.

Just 20 miles across the water from England, Normandy has much to lure visitors for a holiday or short break. Of course, the same waters lap at the French borders as the English and the beaches may be enjoyed in much the same vein on either shore, but the dramas of World War Two are writ large on this coastline.

It’s an education to visit, examine and reflect upon the numerous monuments and reminders of that momentous piece of history, displayed in and around the five beaches of the D-Day landings and simultaneous landing of airborne troops which led to the liberation of France and, ultimately, Europe.

Another ‘must see’ is the impressive island abbey of Mont Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site among France’s most popular sites, visited by some 3 million people a year.

Gardeners and art lovers alike will find joy at Les Jardins d’Etretat, combining plants and artworks in epic contemporary forms.

Château de La Rametière is located in Normandy, near Mont Saint-Michel and Brittany. Guests will enjoy the history of the property, as well as the surrounding areas.

Previously the site of a 17th century farm, the original building of Château de La Rametière was constructed in the mid-18th century. The main level of the château captures the original beauty and style of the era with its sumptuous decorations and antiquities, including an impressive handcrafted bar in the Grand Salon.

From its early history to the present, the château has welcomed a number of famous figures, including the Dior and De Gaulle families. Each suite has been curated to immerse guests in the opulence of the Belle Epoque, while providing modern conveniences in each of the private bathrooms.

Guests will also be greeted with breathtaking views of the rolling countryside and château grounds from their window.

The sprawling gardens of the château boast a vast variety of trees and flowers, including the original orchards that once supplied the apples for

www.chateaularametiere.com

the infamous Norman cider and Calvados. Guests will find natural beauty and calm while exploring the winding paths, or relaxing on the terrace.

Whether you choose to explore the château grounds or nearby areas, you will be mesmerized by the beauty of the region.

Many people may have encountered Dumfries & Galloway while passing through to the Highlands or catching the ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast. If so, they’ll have missed far too many treats! The area is bursting with interest, activity and outstanding natural beauty.

The stunning coast of the Solway Firth and surrounds host a

spectacular assortment of plants, nurtured by the warming route of the Gulf Stream. This makes the area abundant for public gardens such as Threave, just one mile from Scotland’s ‘Food Town’ of Castle Douglas and Galloway House & Gardens, on Wigtown Bay, where visitors can enjoy exotic species while following the coastal path to

Cruggleton Cliffs and Castle.

Many creative professionals make their home in these parts, as to be abundantly discovered in the ‘Artists’ Town’ of Kirkcudbright and ‘Book Town’ of Wigtown. Friendly winged people also flock here, living along the Galloway Faerie Trail at Barstobrick, Ringford.

Balcary Bay hotel is nestled beside the beach in a sheltered inlet. Taking its name from the bay, with view over to Hestan Island and beyond to the mountains of Cumbria, it’s a stunning location, perfect for watching glorious sunrises and sunsets. Our cuisine is farm to table, dishes are fresh and made to order, using as far as possible local farm produce, freshly caught local seafood and mainly certified organic supplies. A beautiful place to come and have a relaxing holiday. We are also a dog friendly hotel.

A bespoke holistic approach to relieving physical pain, emotional trauma, stress, anxiety and muscular tension.

“With healing hands and a very special gift of sensing”, Arabella unlocks the body’s ability to heal itself and enhances both physical and emotional health.

Your Wellbeing Questions

What’s the best approach for overcoming anxiety?

Colette

At Sense Your Health we take the Ayurvedic approach of addressing both mind and body to find natural, sustainable, long-term solutions to anxiety. Ayurveda sits at the heart of what we do for clients, an ancient healing system from India and mother to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ayurveda treats the person not the disease – Because we are all unique!

As a therapist and wellness coach I would design a programme that fits their lifestyle and looks to the root of issue. Three key stones for finding healthy harmony for physical, mental or emotional health are – to keep the breath, the body and the bowels moving!

We use the breath to connect to our Vagus nerve, one the 12 cranial nerves, it’s stimulation signals to the body that it can rest and digest, tend and befriend. I would suggest deep breathing exercises, these are super effective at bringing about calmness, lowering blood pressure and heart rate.

Moving the body plays a big role and shifting energy known as chi in Chinese Medicine and Prana in Ayurveda. Even simple, rhythmic movements like walking, swimming or

one approach.

dancing aid the body, you don’t have to be a gym bunny or a yoga pretzel to reap the benefits.

Lastly the state of our bowels often called the second brain affects everything including our emotions. We may eat a healthy diet but have compromised digestion. At an Ayurvedic consultation we will always look to find the optimum eating and digestion plan. Consideration is given to the time of year, the environment and the seasons of life, to find the right foods and herbs for each individual. At Sense Your Health, we help you make sense of your health from a holistic viewpoint and adapt programmes that respect you as the unique individual you are, so you can feel your best.

Set yourself free by embracing Peaceful Moments therapy

If the COVID 119 pandemic taught anyone anything, it was surely the need for people to prioritise their own mental health! Stress, anxiety and low self-esteem can all cause or aggravate physical health problems, from insomnia to chronic pain, and create further difficulties in relationships, family life, careers and many other spheres of activity. Peaceful Moments Therapy is a professional counselling and psychotherapy service aimed at helping people to heal themselves and find total wellbeing. It provides an oasis of calm and a path through what can seem like almost insurmountable problems to a safe, nurturing space within where everything is able to be faced, handled and overcome.

The therapist behind Peaceful Moments is Laura Baluta, a psychologist and psychotherapist who is widely experienced in working with adults, teenagers, children, couples and families. As a Master of Integrative Psychotherapy, Laura can call on great expertise across a range of highly respected counselling forms such as Cognitive Behavioural, Psychodynamic and Humanistic, blending them according to each individual case. This helps her clients to access blocked feelings, understand causes and gain insight into their own dilemmas and resources, enabling solutions to be found.

Laura’s clients make contact for numerous reasons, sometimes depression, sleeplessness, bereavement, money troubles, divorce, abuse or other traumatic events in their lives. Some experience eating disorders, a specialism in which Laura recently earned a diploma.

“Our therapy is all about giving people a safe place in which to explore and reflect on whatever is in their head,” she says. “It is very powerful and freeing for someone to be able to express their feelings without being judged.”

Laura also practices the energy healing therapy Reiki – Japanese for Universal Life Force – which aids peace, relaxation and a sense of spiritual wellbeing. Reiki sessions may be given as stand-alone treatments or provided before or after psychotherapy sessions, as wished.

During May, Laura will be giving public workshops as part of Worcestershire County Council’s Wellbeing Month to help raise people’s awareness of mental health.
