THE VANNS SOUTH COAST FAVOURITES, THE VANNS, HAVE MADE THEIR RETURN WITH CHARGED UP NEW SINGLE ‘RED LIGHT’. THE SINGLE, THE BAND’S NEWEST MUSIC SINCE THE RELEASE OF THEIR ACCLAIMED DEBUT ALBUM THROUGH THE WALLS IN 2019, IS THE VANNS’ STRONGEST. They’ve re-emerged from the shadows of 2020 ready and raring to go; ‘Red Light’ is the perfect green light moment for the band’s new chapter. Released ahead of their first Australian tour in twelve months, the single is drenched in catchy melodies, vocals and rhythms. In short, ‘Red Light is tailor made for The VANNS’ live experience. Recorded in Byron Bay with Chris Collins, the band nailed the song in the bag after a few days across multiple sessions. The band’s dynamic has only become stronger as they’ve managed to navigate 2020 together as creatives. It’s the type of song that can act as a gateway for new fans of The VANNS, while serving as a tight reminder for those who have been there from the beginning: The VANNS are building a legacy to be proud of. “We recorded ‘Red Light’ in an insanely nice studio just outside of Byron Bay called ‘The Music Farm.’ We were there for a few days and recorded a couple of tunes with all round legend Chris Collins. The process was pretty stressfree, and we recorded live with all of us in the same room which I’d like to think

translates on the recording. Helluva time,” says Cameron Little. The single revolves around an individual who is battling their own demons, speaks to a wider feeling of losing control and spiralling out of it. “I view the single as a ‘lack-of-control’ state of being. Not everything is as it may seem, jumping to reactions may cause more harm than good. For myself, this single involves and shows a move towards a sound that is influenced a lot more on groove and feel,” says Andrew Banovich. For the music video, The VANNS headed to Broken Hill with director Todd Hardingham. The cinematic feel of the video comes with ease, with shots of the band performing in the remote landscapes, the sunset adding to the vast, striking nature of the clip. “It was hot, we are running in RM William boots, not the best combo but damn we had a ball. Our videographer, Todd, tried to capture as much red outback dirt as possible. We had no real plan, we were more in it for the journey,” explains Jimmy Vann. ‘Red Light’ is out now. •

INKLINES A BRAND NEW YEAR OF MUSIC FOR SYDNEY’S INKLINES HAS KICKED OFF STRONG ALREADY WITH THE RELEASE OF ‘BLOSSOM’ BACK IN FEBRUARY. AND NOW, THE TRIO RETURNS, BACKING IT UP WITH ANOTHER STRONG DOSE OF INDIE ROCK IN ‘ALL GONE’. As an indicator of the band’s new EP, coming out later this year, ‘All Gone’ is Inklines at their finest. The first song written as part of new sessions laid down with producer Lachlan West, ‘All Gone’ is rich in its guitar and melodic arrangements. The band has always thrived within the alt-rock space and here, we can hear those influences fusing easily with more contemporary notes. “‘All Gone’ fell together pretty quickly in the studio as we had been gigging for a few months beforehand, and we were all ready to get back into the writing process. It definitely helped that this track is on the mellow side of things, as it really allowed us to let the song flow and take its own course,” says the band. Since their formation back in 2017, Inklines have become seasoned performers on stages around the country performing alongside the likes of British India, elevating as headliners in the years that would follow. With two EPs to their name already, Inklines’ vision squarely remains on pushing their sound forward and exploring more musical influences as they step into new personal and creative chapters. Hailing from Sydney’s Northern Beaches, the band is part of a wave of Australian musicians who can’t be beaten right now. •
