The metered flow of a few drops of fresh oil (about 10 g/h) guarantees an effective barrier from even the most aggressive solvents, considerably increasing the duration of the perfect cylinder-piston coupling and hence the working life of the vacuum pump.

The Look Of Lean Global cosmetics giant Shiseido operates a manufacturing facility in Ormes, France, that requires the daily transfer of up to four tonnes of products over three hours of continuous operation. This places strain on the pumps that are used to facilitate the product transfer because the volumes are large and any breakdowns and subsequent downtime will set back the strict production schedule. Because of these demands, Shisedio has chosen to outfit its facility with Mouvex Eccentric Disc Pump technology, specifically C12i Series models. The C12i pumps meet Shiseido's needs because they minimize product loss, produce very little shearing, have a very gentle pumping action and enable the products to maintain their desired quality, texture and feel.
I
t was 1872 when Arinobu Fukuhara, former head pharmacist for the Japanese Imperial Navy, had the foresight to introduce a new business model that separated Japan’s medical and dispensary medicinal practices after realizing that the herbal medicines that were a core treatment at the time, were insufficient for the health and wellness needs of the Japanese people. At all of 23 years old, Fukuhara established Japan’s first Western-style pharmacy in the Ginza district of Tokyo. When looking for a name for his entrepreneurial company, he was searching for a moniker that was a combination of a forward-thinking blend of Western science and Eastern wisdom. For some inspiration, he turned to the Chinese Yi Jing, or Book of Changes, which is a foundational text in the teachings of Confucianism. From that book, Fukuhara chose the name Shiseido, which means, “Praise the virtues of great Earth, which nurtures new life and brings forth new values.” By strictly adhering to that tenet, along with a corporate mission that aims to “inspire a life of beauty and culture,” nearly 150 years later Shiseido stands as the world’s fifth-largest cosmetics manufacturer. who has been with Shiseido for six years, has two main responsibilities – minimize product loss and ensure that the products manufactured there meet strict guidelines for quality. “In our process we need to have as little loss as possible because the product is really expensive,” she explained. “One kilo of product can cost €30 to €40 (US$33 to $44), so if in each batch we lose 50 kilos (110 pounds), the price adds up really fast. It’s also really important that there is very little shearing of the product because the creams need to have a specific texture.” The importance of these demands become readily apparent when you realize that the Unité du Val de Loire facility transfers up to four tonnes per day of products within three hours of continuous pumping. This places strains on the pumps that are used to facilitate the product transfer because not only are the volumes large, but also because any breakdowns and accompanying downtime needed for repairs or pump replacement sets back the strict production schedule. The ultimate goal of a lean manufacturing operation is to realize higher yields while using fewer

As part of its 2020 strategy of “sustaining growth for the next 100 years,” Shiseido recognizes the importance of creating and implementing a lean manufacturing process that reduces product loss, optimizes transfer times and minimizes the need for equipment maintenance. Based on this strategy, Shiseido has chosen to outfit its facility in Ormes with eccentric disc pump technology from Mouvex, Auxerre, France, a product brand of PSG, Oakbrook Terrace, IL, USA, which is a Dover company. “Since the most important thing is to have as little loss as possible, when we use a pump in fabrication we need to take the maximum amount of cream out of the tank, and we have really low product loss with Mouvex,” said Guermond. “It is also really important that there is little shearing, that the pump be very gentle with the product, and the Mouvex pump enables the creams to maintain the desired texture.” There are many critical considerations

when producing sensitive and valuable fluids. Some factories are losing expensive materials down the drain because they are not familiar with the appropriate technology. This is not the case for Shiseido. Specifically, Shiseido deploys a Mouvex C12i Series Eccentric Disc Pump for product transfer at the Unité du Val de Loire facility. The C12i pump is ideal for this application because its seal-less design and method of operation allow it to run dry and offers high self-priming capability with a compressor effect that guarantees reliable stripping of suction and discharge lines. Moreover, it can ensure no slip, low pulsation, high volumetric consistency and the elimination of costly leakage. In fact, the pump’s product-recovery capabilities are so substantial that a recovery rate of as much as 80% or more can be realized when compared to competitive technologies. he need to operate under vacuum is wide-spread throughout the chemical process industries (CPI).
Distillation, drying, flash cooling and evaporation, stripping, freeze drying, impregnation, etc, are some among the unit operations processes that frequently take place at less than atmospheric pressure. What is Vacuum? Vacuum is any system of reduced pressure, relative to local (typically atmospheric) pressure, achieved through a vacuum system, which are commonly used to: •
Remove excess air and its constituents
•
Remove excess reactants unwanted byproducts
•
Reduce the boiling point
or
•
Dry solute material
•
Create a pressure differential for initiating transport of material.
In many process industries the overriding concern is the amount of vacuum (degree of evacuation) required. In the below article we will talk about the 6 (six) major types of vacuum producing devices namely: •

This mixed fluid then passes through a converging – diverging diffuser, where the velocity is converted back to kinetic energy. Hence, the resultant pressure is higher than the suction pressure of the ejectors. Depending on the degree of vacuum required, ejectors usually come in a series configuration with various stages attached (called a multi-stage unit). Usually the backing work is done by water ejectors/ steam ejectors and front end stages are known as steam boosters. Barometric leg (direct contact type) condensers are installed in the intermediate stages. Steam ejector technology however, is a conventional/old technology now and has many discredits attached to it as per the present day scenario. 1) Low investment cost. parts,

Steam Jet Ejector Systems These have been considered as work horses and have been the most widely used vacuum producers over the last few decades. This works on the principle of converting the energy of motive fluid (which may be the same as or different from process fluid) into velocity (kinetic energy) as it flows through a relatively small converging – diverging nozzle. blades (also called buckets) and the ring increase in size on the inlet side of the pump, and the resulting suction continually draws gas out of the vessel being evacuated. As the blades rotate towards the discharge side of the pump, the pockets decrease in size, and the evacuated gas is compressed, enabling its discharge. A continuous flow of fresh sealing liquid is supplied to the pump via the sealing-liquid inlet. In the case of the two-stage liquid ring pump, the discharge from the first stage does not discharge to atmosphere. Instead, the first stage discharges through the manifold leading to the second stage as well as through a discharge port located in the intermediate plate between the first and second stage impellers. The process repeats itself allowing deeper vacuum and finally discharges into the atmosphere. The ring of liquid not only acts as a seal; it also absorbs the heat of compression, friction and condensation. Popular liquid choices include water, ethylene glycol, mineral oil and organic solvents. Advantages 1) Can perform as both vacuum pump as well as direct contact condenser. 2) Low purchase price as compared to dry type vacuum pumps/systems. 3) Has high vapour handling capacity. All process carry overs mix with the sealing water and are pumped out of the discharge.

Rotary Piston A rugged type of vacuum producing device is the rotary piston vacuum pump. Its piston is attached to a cam that is mounted eccentrically to the main bore of the vacuum pump cylinder. At the start of the cycle, the volume between the piston and the cylinder increases as the shaft rotates the piston cam assembly. Gas is drawn in through a channel in the piston, until volume is at its maximum. At that point, the pocket becomes sealed from the inlet as the inlet channel in the piston closes off. Lubricating oil helps seal the clearances. The shaft then further rotates the piston and cam assembly, in a way that compresses sealedoff gas against the pump cylinder and the discharge valve. The discharge valve opens when the gas pressure is slightly above atmospheric. The gas and lubricating oil is then forced out and cycle repeats itself. This technology has also been around for ages and finds use in applications when the process load is dry and contains only NC (non-condensable) gases.Contamination of the process cannot be avoided with this design. Furthermore, even liquid carryover can lead to damage of the pump internals. Reciprocating Operation of reciprocating motion is done by the power source (ie, electric motor).

Power source gives rotary motion to crank; with the help of connecting rod we translate reciprocating motion to piston in the cylinder (ie, intermediate link between connecting rod and piston). When crank moves from inner dead centre to outer dead centre vacuum is generated in the cylinder.
Rotary Vane Vacuum Pumps
Everest has been manufacturing and supplying various vacuum systems with reciprocating piston vacuum pumps in combination with vacuum boosters. These systems find major applications in speciality processes like: •

The standard lubricated rotary vane pump is a single stage pump with an integral, closedloop oil-circulation system. The construction is heavy-duty and compact. Typical vane life is 50,000 hours. The pump rotor is mounted eccentrically in the pump cylinder. As the pump rotor turns, inlet air is trapped between the rotor and vane segments (see #1 in the diagram below). This creates increasing cell volume on the inlet port side, creating vacuum. Since the rotor is located eccentric to the pumping chamber, the volume between the rotor, vanes and housing decreases and increases as rotor spins. Air is compressed and discharged into the exhaust box as rotation continues. See #3 in the diagram below. Air passes through several stages of internal oil-and mist eliminators to remove 99.9 per cent of the lubricating oil from the exhaust. oil is then returned to the oil reservoir.

The dissipated energy that is generated by the pulsating gas flow heats the pump on the outlet side hence, cooling is required at precisely this location. The gap between housing and rotors is a function of the temperature differential between the warmer rotors and the cooled housing. The amount of heat produced and the temperature are a function of the inlet pressure range. Temperatures are lowest at high inlet pressures (nearly atmospheric), as virtually no compression work is performed here and the displaced air transports sufficient heat out of the pump. In addition, the high gas flow also prevents oscillation of the gas in the last stage.
Some companies are now referring this technology as SEMI DRY vacuum Pumps. The fact remains that vapour does come in contact with the lubricating oil and hence increases the chances of contamination. Dry Screw Vacuum Pumps Two parallel bearing-supported, intermeshing screw rotors having opposite threads synchronously and contact less counter-rotate in a cylindrical housing that tightly encloses them, and together form a multi-stage dry screw vacuum pump. Due to of the counter-mesh of the two rotors (screws), the volumes sealed in each thread are advanced along the rotors to the outlet. When a displacement volume reaches the outlet opening, the pressure is equalized with the atmosphere. This means that atmospheric air flows into the displacement volume and is then discharged again as the rotor turns. This pulsing gas flow generates a high level of dissipated energy and heats the pump. The dissipated energy can be minimized by means of internal compression. Everest screw vacuum pumps are designed to ensure that the differential temperature remains intact and is optimized for operation. This internal compression is achieved by reducing the thread pitch in the direction of the outlet. The gaps between the housing and the rotors, as well as between the rotors relative to one another, determine the ultimate pressure, which a screw pump
During operation at ultimate pressure (p < 1 hPa), the oscillation of the atmospheric air produces higher temperatures at the outlet area, since no gas is passing through the pump and therefore no heat is being transported out of the pump.
These pumps are such designed that a slit is made in the discharge end to ensure the temperature does not rise beyond a certain level. The FEP plate has cooling water along with a provision of â&#x20AC;&#x153;Thermostatic Water Temperature Control Valveâ&#x20AC;? for optimum functionality. This makes these pumps extremely cost-effective, in spite of their robust design and suitability to run operatorfree by following simple operating procedures. These pumps have been the best technology available in field of vacuum pumps especially for process industries but did not gain much popularity owing to the high capital cost as well as that of consumables and spares. Vacuum boosters manufactured by Everest are being extensively used in chemical and process industry to boost the performance of the backing pumps, in low-pressure range, where conventional vacuum pumps have poor volumetric efficiency. Low Stress to Seal ePTFE Gasket as Reliable Sealing Solution for Fiberglass Flanges Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) pipes and flanges are increasingly used in the oil and gas industry where metal is simply too heavy and expensive. This is especially true in offshore applications and innovative Enhanced Oil Recovery technologies. In addition to cost pressure, the need for lightweight chemically-resistant materials are also driving the use of fiberglass pipes and flanges. Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP) can be made from Glass Reinforced Polyester (GRP), Glass Reinforced Vinylester (GRV) or Glass Reinforced Epoxy (GRE), commonly known as â&#x20AC;&#x153;Fiberglassâ&#x20AC;?. Pipes made using FRP material are light-weight and chemically-resistant, hence they are becoming more and more important in the industry as they are able to replace a broader array of metal piping in utility plants and the oil and gas industry.
I
nnovations in FRP flange design coupled with improvements in manufacturing technology have allowed FRP piping to be used in even more demanding applications. However, these demanding applications have added challenges for sealing the bolted flanged connections. More aggressive media and higher internal pressures have pushed the limits of the commonly used rubber gasketing materials, such as Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR), Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) or neoprene. Obtaining a reliable seal in FRP flanges using conventional gasketing materials has become more difficult. Fiberglass pipes are generally known to have strength limits and a lower pressure resistance, making sealing fiberglass flanges difficult. Gore solved this problem with its patented expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) gasket, specifically designed to seal flanges at low stresses. This solution was successfully demonstrated in a multi-stage testing procedure conducted in cooperation with a globally leading manufacturer of anticorrosive fiberglass pipe systems.

FRP piping found its first application in water and wastewater processes, where the cost and light-weight advantages of
the material were found to be superior to steel. Applications in these processes had relatively low internal pressures and typically transported non-aggressive media. As a result, most of the fiberglass piping systems were designed for relatively low internal pressure; due to this parameter, high bolt torques were not required to seal fiberglass flanges. non-aggressive media, and they required very low gasket stress to seal at low internal pressures. Therefore, FRP flange manufacturers were able to meet the water and wastewater market need by producing piping and flanges with significantly less strength than that of steel. Over time, FRP piping gained market share by replacing steel piping for low pressure applications. Eventually, the chemical process industry discovered the economical, light-weight and chemicalresistance advantages of FRP flanges. With more success came new more opportunities to use FRP piping. Chemical process industry users wanted to replace other more expensive metal piping systems with FRP piping. However, the ability for FRP to replace metal pipes was quickly limited by the original low pressure design of the FRP flanges. This commercial demand drove flange manufacturers to make developments in FRP piping so that its applications could be high-pressure (25 bar and above) with highly aggressive media such as chlorine, hydrochloric acid (HCl), caustic soda (NaOH), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (BTEX).

The use of commercially available chemicallyresistant gaskets was not possible, as they required higher seating stresses. Gasket technology innovation was needed because the industry now required a gasket with broad chemical resistance coupled with an ability to provide a reliable seal at low bolt loads.

Gaskets with broad chemical-resistance were already commercially available. Such gaskets are typically made from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). PTFE is a thermoplastic polymer and, at ambient temperature, is a white solid material of about 2.2 g/cm 3 density. It is well-known as Teflon(1) and consists of a fluorinesaturated carbon chain (Figure1). This C-F bond is the strongest single bond in organic chemistry (2)(3), and is the reason the chemical and physical properties of PTFE are unique among plastic materials:

Unfortunately, PTFE is mechanically weak and leads to the need for higher seating stresses than FRP flanges can generally accommodate. The higher seating stress is due to the lack of resilience of PTFE as compared to rubber and to the creep relaxation that occurs when PTFE is compressed in a bolted flange connection. Creep relaxation of a gasket material is when a gasket flows outwards and becomes thinner causing the bolted flange connection to loose bolt force and the associated gasket stress. Creep relaxation is a temperature dependent property of PTFE (4). In steel applications, gasket manufacturers were able to increase PTFE’s mechanical

Testing the Chemical and Pressure Resistance of Stub End FRP Flange Design
Based on the demand of a leading oil and gas company in Middle East to provide technical solutions to innovative Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, the globally leading manufacturer of fiberglass pipe systems performed tests to demonstrate the performance of their piping technology at its facilities. Gore partnered with this FRP pipe manufacturer as ePTFE gaskets were selected to seal the flange connections and conducted a long-term exposure test.

stability by adding silica, barium sulphate, and other inorganic filler material to the PTFE. The resulting filled PTFE gaskets were success in reducing creep relaxation but the original broad chemical resistance was lost. In 1969, Gore invented a different manufacturing method for PTFE that resulted in a mechanically strong 100% PTFE material. Through the use of invented expansion processes, Gore could affect the microstructure of the PTFE material, resulting in ePTFE (expanded PTFE). The resulting microstructure consists of very fine pores created by nodes interconnected with fibrils (Figure 2). A gasket made from ePTFE has the broad chemical resistance of PTFE coupled with a high degree of temperature and creep resistance which tackle the disadvantages of sintered PTFE. In addition, ePTFE gaskets are soft and conformable which helps seal flanges with irregular or damaged surfaces. ePTFE gaskets became widely adopted as the sealing solution for steel applications. However, the use of ePTFE gaskets in FRP flanges remained intermittent because the stress-to-seal was higher than FRP flanges could provide. In 2005, Gore was able to develop a gasketing technology called the GORE Universal Pipe Gasket (Style 800) which offers both chemical resistance and low stress-to-seal. The product combines two patented construction elements, each made of 100% ePTFE (Figure 3).

A non-permeable barrier layer that covers the inside diameter and gasket flange faces, creating a tight seal at significantly lower gasket stress A conformable-yet-strong interior, providing superior resistance to creep and cold flow.
With its low stress-to-seal characteristic, the GORE Universal Pipe Gasket (Style 800) was more suited to FRP flanges incorporating some re-design. The combination of new flange and gasket design was adopted for chemical applications by providing an effective solution to corrosion and sealing problems.
The test objective was to prove the pressure stability, the resistance to specified seating stress, and the chemical compatibility of a FRP flanged system transporting 37% hydrochloric acid (HCl). The test rig included FRP piping and flanges sealed using GORE Universal Pipe Gasket (Style 800) (Figure 4).The testing was conducted over 1,000 hours. The test system was filled with 37% HCl and held for extended periods of time. After each defined exposure time, the test specimen was inspected for chemical attack. After 1,000 hours of exposure, both the pipe and gasket were found to have no chemical attack. As a result, both the pipe and gasket were declared fit for use (Figure 5). After 1,000 hours, 2,208 hours and 4,416 hours of chemical exposure to 37% HCl, the test rig of DN100 size FRP piping and gasket was pressure tested for tightness (Figure 6). 22.5 bar pressure was held for 24 hours

and no visual leakage was detected and no pressure drop occurred. To confirm pressure resistance and compatibility with the specified seating stress in larger size pipes, a pressure tightness test was conducted in a DN400 size flange using the same pipe gasket under the following conditions: •

After seven days (168 hours) of holding the pressure at 22.5 bar, another hydrotest test was performed. The flange was re-torqued to 560 Nm (31 MPa gasket stress) and pressure was raised to 60 bars (four times design pressure) and no leakage nor pressure loss was observed. Further increase of pressure resulted in leakage starting at 91 bar with no trace of pipe disintegration. The testing proved that the FRP piping sealed with GORE Universal Pipe Gasket (Style
800) could meet the demanding application conditions of chemical compatibility and pressure resistance. Summary and Conclusion: Gore ePTFE can meet the challenges of FRP Piping Systems
FRP piping connections have considerably advanced in the recent past. A design pressure of 15 bar is technically confirmed and tested for nominal sizes of up to 400 mm. High strength ePTFE gaskets are the gasket of choice for these applications when: (i) sufficient gasket stress can be applied and (ii) proper stress calculations are made to ensure integrity of the FRP flange material, the seal and the flange set-up (5) . To ensure successful performance, proper installation practice by using torque wrenches and lubricants during bolt-tightening is necessary. The conducted chemical and highpressure tests prove that Gore ePTFE can meet the challenges of FRP piping. The use of FRP piping systems in highpressure applications is highly important for the oil and gas industry. The tests have proven that the gasket reliably seals FRP pipes and flanges. These test results from 2011 give evidence of the potential of ePTFE as gasket material for high internal pressure applications. Moreover, there is a field case study available: The piping and gaskets tested in 2011 have been in successful operation in Middle East since 2012. ◘

Transforming Valves Industry
T
he valve industry is seizing new opportunities and the statistics are overwhelming. The industry is experiencing an upsurge in demand for valves. The credit of invention of valves goes to the Romans, but since then, valves have practically found application in every sector. Valves are required in all core industrial sectors, such as power, oil and gas, water, infrastructure projects, metal and mining, chemicals, drugs, pharmaceuticals, and food and beverages, for expansion of capacities, de-bottlenecking or routine maintenance and repair work carried out in factories. Valve is a small but critical support device that is omnipresent because it is a must for operation and control of all big devices and processes. World valve market size is USD 62 Billion with North America and West Europe being the largest markets. Global demand for valves is expected to grow and reach USD 75 Billion by 2017 end. China, Africa, the Middle East and India are expected to be the fastest growing markets while oil and gas, chemicals, power, metal, pharmaceuticals, marine and water resources are anticipated to be the fastest growing segments in the coming years. India constitutes around 2 per cent of the overall demand for valves in Asia with INR 10,000 Cr worth market size. The valve industry, being an intermediate industry, is completely dependent on the growth of the core sectors in the Indian economy. Therefore, with the expected growth in the oil and gas, power, pipeline, steel, infrastructure, petrochemicals and pharmaceutical industries, demand for valves is also expected to gather steam. On an average, total cost of all valves is approximately 2 per cent of the total factory and machinery cost. Currently, the valve industry is witnessing transition from low technology valves to a range of high and medium technology products. Growth of the nuclear industry is spurring the development of high technology valves. KBL, with N, NPT and MO Certifications, holds the necessary expertise required to cater to the demand
arising from the nuclear industry. The Certification also serves as an assurance of KBLâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s capability to offer solutions for critical applications. Power generation shift from low-efficiency conventional thermal power plants to high efficiency ultra-mega power plants with super-critical coal fired boiler technology is expected to create demand for high technology valves. The Indian valve industry needs to collaborate and work closely with the end users to rise up to the global challenges, demands and opportunities, and grow together. More and more valve manufacturers globally are adhering to stringent specifications. Fire protection service solutions and products with Factory Mutual (FM) Certification and Underwriter Laboratories (UL) listing attract lower insurance premiums. Recently, KBL became the first Indian valve manufacturer to receive the FM Certification and UL listing for its gate valves for fire protection. When it Gets Hot, it is Time for Diphyl
H
eat is needed for production almost everywhere, in every industry. Temperatures often rise as high as 400°C or higher. Many production processes are not viable without heat transfer fluids, which allow the heat to be passed on to the next station and not be lost. As a result, many production plants depend on organic heat transfer fluids, such as Diphyl by LANXESS. Exact and Constant Temperatures are Important Organic heat transfer fluids are certainly a good idea when things are heating up, but also at lower operating temperatures. They can be divided into two categories: mineral oil-based and synthetic. At high temperatures, in particular, synthetic organic heat transfer media are the best solution. They are used wherever precise temperature control is important. This applies, for example, to the manufacture and processing of plastics, synthetic fibers and rubber, and to the wood and
metal processing industry. Heat transfer media are indispensable when the task is to make PET out of polyester, for example, and to further process it into fibers and bottles. The distinguishing features of synthetic heat transfer media are their high boiling ranges, high thermal stability and long service life. They are therefore particularly suitable for completely temperature-stable process management at high temperature ranges of 300 to 400°C. Under these conditions, the LANXESS Diphyl range proves its worth – more than 85 years after being first put on the market. Thanks to its unique thermal stability and longevity, the heat transfer fluid Diphyl is also known as the Grande Dame of heat transfer fluids. Consistent Performance over Thousands of Hours of Operation The name Diphyl denotes a family of products produced by mixing diphenyl oxide and biphenyl. The clear, slightly yellowish fluid has low viscosity and its solidification point is 12°C. This is clearly lower than that of the pure compounds.

This is an advantage for instruments and pipes: they are not damaged by the solidification of the Diphyl contained in them. Diphyl remains nearconstant in its properties for thousands of hours of operation, even under Exact and Constant Temperatures are Important
tremendous heat. At temperatures above 340°C, the product is, in fact, unique. Compared with mineral-oil-based heat transfer media, Diphyl guarantees higher thermal stability with optimal heat transfer properties and a long life. Advantageous in the Vapour Phase In the vapour phase, particularly, Diphyl shows why the mixture of biphenyl and diphenyl oxide proves to be such a good one in practice. The composition of the mixture has an exact boiling point, which manufacturers can make good use of in the vapour phase. For precise temperature compliance, as required in the spinning and, above all,
polymerization
processes,
this
is often crucial to the quality of the manufactured product. Every organic heat transfer medium ages due to the high temperature stress, with gradual dissociation reactions. RADIAL DIAPHRAGM VALVES
The Roots-type pumps belong to the group of positive displacement delivery pumps. Two symmetrical pistons having an eight feature, housed in the pump body, rotate in opposite directions with no contact neither between each other nor with the pump body, meshing continuously. The pistons are driven by a set of gears with synchronised rotation, which guarantees friction-free movement. During rotation, a progressively growing space is created with corresponds to the suction stage: phases 1 and 2, being gradually decreased phases 3 and 4, compressing the volume of gas. This cycle is repeated four times per each complete rotation of the drive shaft.

GRAVITY METAL DETECTOR WITH REJECTION VALVE At certain sites, pre-weighing metal detection is required by the user. This type of metal detector is installed in line with a feed chute. An electromagnetic coil surrounding the non-metallic body of this equipment is used for detection of metal present in the material. The KBL valves applicable for the chemical sector are resilient seat gate valves, tamper-proof kinetic air valves, butterfly valves, forged steel gate valves, steam trap device, suction diffuser, etc.. One of the other valves that KBL manufactures is the triple duty valve. It is a noise-free operating multi-purpose valve that performs all the required functions on the discharge side of the Hydronic System Pumps (HVAC). Paddlewheel flow meters continue to be the most common way to measure flow electronically in a wide range of industries.The rotational velocity of the rotary wheel varies linearly with the average velocity of the fluid flowing through the flow meter. A square wave pulse is generated from magnets embedded in the vanes of the rotor wheel. Depending on the output version of the M-10000, the pulse signal is relayed directly, converted to a 0-10 V DC output or a 4-20 mA output. The voltage and current models are span adjustable over the flow range of the flow meter.
The densifying screw feeder is offered where the product to be bagged is fluidised. Density of such material is very low owing to entrapped air in the product. Such products are very difficult to handle owing to highly free flowing characteristics of the product. Due to low density of the product and high quantity of entrapped air, such products require bigger size of bag to accommodate the given weight of the product. The densifying screw feeder removes entrapped air from the product. Density of the product thus increases sufficiently enough to accommodate this material into the given size of the bag. However, some percentage of air still remains inside the product which controls the flow-ability of the product.

CUTTING TOOL FOR TUBES Schwarze-Robitec has expanded its cutting tool and has combined the bending and the final cutting of short bent tube components for large dia of up to 76 mm (3”) and that in only one single working step. To do this, the cutting tool is integrated into the bending tool. This makes the whole process much more efficient and economical. The user’s benefits: a decrease in scrap material up to 90 per cent and clearly reduced production times. Consequently, the system of the integrated cutting tool is perfectly suited for producing parts in high quantities due to the immense material and time savings. The tools can process these precise cuts in the shortest time possible. At the Krefeld-Uerdingen site, the plan is to expand production facilities for trimethylolpropane, hexanediol, benzylalcohol and menthols to accommodate growing demand on global markets. Trimethylolpropane and hexanediol are important for products in the automotive, furniture and construction industries, for example. Benzylalcohol is used in a broad range of applications, eg, construction, soap, coatings, seals and adhesives, agro and pharma. Besides KrefeldUerdingen, Lanxess manufactures Benzylalcohol at its Nagda site in India. “Benzylalcohol is one of the key products in the business unit Advanced Industrial Intermediates’ portfolio where LANXESS holds global market leadership positions. At the Leverkusen site capacity expansion for special amines is scheduled to start this year. Special amines are mainly used as intermediates for further processing and ultimately in the automotive sector. LANXESS will considerably increase the capacity of the MEA plant at Brunsbüttel in the course of the year and will invest up to EUR 15 million for this purpose. The abbreviation MEA stands for 2-methyl-6-ethylaniline, which is required mainly as a precursor for crop protection herbicides. At the Kallo/Antwerp site in Belgium, LANXESS will be investing a midsingle digit euro million figure to expand its production capacities for rubber chemicals. Reliance Industries Attains Exclusive Rights to Produce RelWood for Resysta. Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), India’s largest private sector company, enters into a license agreement with German company, Resysta International GMBH. The legal agreement gives RIL exclusive rights to produce and market RelWood, a Natural Fiber Polymer Composite (NFPC) in India. This compound will act as a raw material for production of various profiles which will be used as wood replacement and also for furniture making and home renovations. The biggest advantage of the NFPC developed by Resysta is that it does not get affected by termites. It is highly water and weather resistant which gives you the real feel of wood. It promises to not splinter or rot over time. It is a fully recyclable material which is obtained from renewable resources. Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) felicitated by ISRO for its Contribution to the Prestigious Hypersonic Wind Tunnel Project Pune, India: Recognising Kirloskar Brothers Limited’s capabilities to execute complex engineering projects amidst challenging environments, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) recently felicitated the leading global fluid management company for successful completion of the project related to cooling piping system at its Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) at Trivandrum in Kerala. At a ceremony to recognise the prestigious vendors for their contribution to accomplish the task of national importance and pride, ISRO Chairman Shri A. S. Kiran Kumar felicitated Mr. Vishnu K, KBL engineer associated with the project, on behalf of KBL’s Marine & Defence (M&D) segment. ISRO recently commissioned a Hypersonic Wind Tunnel at the VSSC at Trivandrum as part of its continuous and concerted efforts to minimise cost of access to space. Notably, the Hypersonic Wind Tunnel at the VSSC facility at Trivandrum is the third largest wind tunnel in terms of size and simulation capability in the world. Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL) designed, supplied,
erected and commissioned the cooling piping system for this facility through its engineering partner L&T. According to ISRO Chairman Shri Kiran Kumar, commissioning of such facilities would help in future space transportation systems in the country and it will further strengthen our space venturing capabilities. The facility at VSSC, Trivandrum, has been indigenously designed, developed and ‘Made in India’ with the support of over 500 Indian companies. On the company’s milestone achievement, Mr. Amit Dubey, General Manager, Marine & Defence Sector, Kirloskar Brothers Limited said, “It is a matter of great pride for KBL to have achieved recognition from ISRO for its capabilities. The task of commissioning of Cooling Piping System for the VSSC facility was challenging and the margin of error was nil. With our experience of dealing with similar projects in India and outside, we executed the project with our engineering partner L&T. This project is special to KBL as it is a testimony to the country’s indigenous engineering capabilities that only few countries in the world can boast of.” Hypersonic Wind Tunnel can simulate flow speeds of Mach 6 to 12 with Reynolds Number up to 80 million per metre, while shock tunnel can simulate flight velocities up to 4.5 kilometres per second at a maximum stagnation pressure of 350 Bar. Hot Shut-off Valves (HSVs) are the most critical valve components in the Hypersonic Wind Tunnel, operating at high pressures and temperatures as high as 1550º K. Other important components of this system include nozzle, test section and diffuser. Contoured nozzles are used to generate Mach 6, 8, 10 and 12 flows. The cooling system helps to keep the metal temperature within permissible limits (ambient temperature). The HSVs endure high temperature; hence, an elaborate cooling system is required independently for each valve element such as valve body, actuator stem and gate seat ring. The other system which requires cooling is the ‘nozzle system’. The system requires three different ranges from minimum to maximum conditions for three interchangeable nozzle equipment. Extensive discussions were held for the selection of pumps for the HSVs and to fulfill ISRO’s stringent requirements and for ease of operation. To achieve this, the number of pumps was minimised by clubbing supply and return lines for multiple valves. The primary requirement involved meeting the specifications prescribed by ISRO, considering space constraints and operational ability of the system. Therefore, a Multi-Stage Multi-Outlet (MSMO) pump was supplied with appropriate pressure reduction before releasing the water back to sump. MSMO, with pressure reduction, is heart of the system and it was KBL’s USP for the entire project. KBL designed a system to transfer water from the pump to the HSVs and the nozzles to cool them. KBL carried out design, supply, erection and commissioning of the entire cooling piping system despite labor issues and very challenging work environment. The necessary changes in the design and re-routing were carried out during the implementation as per the site condition. The project was completed in time without any trouble.

Coal India is all set for a ` 10,000 crore joint venture along with Rashtriya chemicals and fertilizers, Gail India, and the FCIL (Fertilizers Corporation of India), to setup a chemicals complex made up of urea and ammonium nitrate which will run on gasified coal. There is a need to conduct a background study on the project for which Coal India has appointed Projects and Development of India (PDIC) to conduct a utility study. The plan will manufacture 3 lakh tonnes of urea annually for which 6 million tonnes of coal will be used from coalfields of Talcher in Odisha and 300400 tonnes of ammonium nitrate will be produced per day. The principal ingredient for making explosives that are used for blasting material at coal mines is Ammonium Nitrate which is facing a lot of supply crunch. Hence, the suppliers often increase the price which results in higher cost to company.

Considered a world leader in ammonia technology, the US based EPC company KBR Inc has been awarded a revamping contract by Fertial SpA of their 2 ammonia plants, Annaba and Arzew in Algeria. The license is provided for giving basic engineering design services which can renovate the plants. According to the terms of the contract, KBR will provide Fertial their own ammonia technology, which will increase the production capacity of Annaba and Arzew plants significantly while also helping Fertial with reliability and energy effectiveness.

WA C K E R E x p a n d s I t s I n t e g r a t e d K e t e n e Production in Burghausen L The WACKER Group is strengthening its integrated ketene production at its Burghausen site in Germany. The Munich-based chemical company is building a further reactor for the manufacture of isopropanol acetate (IPA) with an annual capacity of 2, Munich and Burghausen, April 25, 2017 – WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS, the life sciences and biotechnology 500 metric tons. IPA is an important starting material for acetyl acetone (AcAc), which is used in numerous applications, ranging from life sciences products through to construction and automotive applications. Capital expenditures of almost € 2 million are budgeted for the capacity increase. Completion of the plant is scheduled for the second half of 2017. In addition, WACKER is taking over the sales and distribution of the fine chemical calcium acetylacetonate from Acetonate GmbH as of April. This derivative of AcAc will round out the existing integrated ketene production system in Burghausen. “The new IPA reactor is an important step toward strengthening our integrated ketene production system in Burghausen,” says WACKER Board Member Auguste Willems. “The expansion is part of our strategy of raising the proportion of specialties in our business as a whole to boost growth and profitability. This measure, together with the sales and distribution partnership we have entered into with Acetonate GmbH, will strengthen our position as a leading manufacturer of fine chemicals across a wide variety of sectors – from pharmaceutical products through to industrial applications in the plastics sector.” The new plant is a key addition to the Burghausen site’s supply chain. In the integrated production system, acetic acid is converted first into ketene, then into isopropenyl acetate and finally to acetylacetone. Both IPA and AcAc serve as building blocks for syntheses in numerous branches of industry, from pharmaceutical active ingredients through to specialty automotive coatings. Additionally, AcAc is a starting material for further products in the WACKER portfolio. To further strengthen the integrated production system and the degree of forward integration, WACKER is also, as of April, taking over distribution of calcium acetylacetonate (Ca-AcAc), a fine chemical made by Acetonate GmbH in Greiz, eastern Germany. Acetonate GmbH will continue to produce Ca-AcAc on behalf of WACKER, but with WACKER taking charge of sales and distribution of the entire annual production volume of around 900 metric tons. “This strategic cooperation will enable us to offer even greater security of supply, in addition to excellent product quality, for our customers, especially those in Europe, because we now cover the entire supply chain for calcium acetylacetonate,” says Gerhard Schmid, divisional president of WACKER BIOSOLUTIONS, describing the collaboration.
LANXESS increases capacities for iron oxide pigments. Nuremberg, Germany: Specialty chemicals company LANXESS is expanding the capacity of its global production network to safeguard customer supply in the long term. In Krefeld-Uerdingen, site of the world’s largest synthetic iron oxide pigment plant, production capacities for red and black pigments will be gradually increased by around 23,000 metric tons, from the current 280,000 metric tons, by
2019. Furthermore, by means of modernization, LANXESS is also expanding capacities for yellow pigments by another 2,000 metric tons per year at its site in Porto Feliz, Brazil. LANXESS already expanded its global production network recently by starting up operation of its site in Ningbo, China. The synthesis production facility there, which commenced operation in the first quarter of 2016, is designed for an annual capacity of 25,000 metric tons of red pigment. By taking these measures, LANXESS will be increasing its global production capacities from 375,000 to 400,000 metric tons of iron oxide pigments by 2019. Well positioned to meet rising demand “The purpose of these investments is to support the growth of our customers,” says Jörg Hellwig, head of the Inorganic Pigments business unit (IPG). As the world market leader in iron oxide pigments and a leading supplier of chrome oxide pigments, LANXESS continuously evaluates the development of the global pigment market. The company expects global demand for iron oxide pigments to grow by an average of three percent per year beyond 2018. Demand for iron oxide pigments will rise significantly due to strong growth in countries like India and the continued recovery of the building industry in North America and parts of Europe. China will also contribute to this development with growth rates remaining at a high level. Paints and coatings are the second-largest field of application for synthetic iron oxide pigments, making up one quarter of total global consumption – and the trend is on the rise. “By 2025, we expect global annual growth in the demand for iron oxide to reach an average of 4 percent. We believe in particular that the demand for high-quality pigments with uniform global standards will increase,” adds Hellwig. Continued consolidation of the Chinese pigment industry Although China is by far the largest producer of synthetic iron oxides, with over 50 percent of total global supply, the number of production locations for synthetic iron oxide pigments has been decreasing steadily for several years. This is a result of the consistent implementation of environmental regulations by both pigment manufacturers and the pigment processing industry. The number of production locations has dropped by half since 2008, resulting in a reduction in supply, particularly in the segment for red pigments. According to LANXESS, this consolidation process is likely to continue. Uniform global production standards are an integral part of LANXESS’s image. Its production processes have always been designed to be safe, to conserve resources and to preserve the environment, and they are subject to ongoing improvement. The company’s consistent focus on sustainable production processes is paying off in China. To ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of iron oxide red pigments to customers, LANXESS recently invested in the construction of a new production site in Ningbo, China. It uses the Ningbo Process, which is based on patented technology. The development and startup of this technology, which for the first time enables the ecofriendly production of yellow-cast red pigments and fulfills the very high Chinese environmental standards, went through a very intense development phase. “In light of our high quality expectations and in accordance with our own high demands on sustainable production, we have conducted extensive test runs since 2016. This trial phase has now largely been concluded,” says Hellwig

Praj all set to unveil India s First Integrated Bio-refinery for Renewable Fuels & Chemicals Pune, India: Praj Industries announced a breakthrough in scale up of its 2nd generation ethanol technology with successful completion and start-up of smart bio-refinery. India’s first integrated bio-refinery is built on the company’s proprietary platform technology - “enfinity’’ for manufacturing ethanol from agri-waste. Second generation demo plant can produce one MLPA of ethanol by processing a variety of agri-residue like rice and wheat straw, cotton stalk, bagasse, cane trash, corn cobs & stover, etc. into ethanol, with superior product yields. With continual research and development, further pipeline of other renewable fuels and chemicals is underway to be produced from this technology platform. Talking about this landmark achievement, Mr Pramod Chaudhari, Executive Chairman of Praj Industries said: “Praj’s 2G demo plant is a testament of our technology leadership in the bio-energy space. As a part of this drive, 10 to 12 Second generation ethanol projects are expected to be finalized, with average capex of around Rs 600 crore each. Each of these plants will have the capacity to produce 100,000 litres of ethanol per day. Praj is at the forefront of this development and has already signed MoUs with IOCL and BPCL as their technology partner for certain project sites. ONGC in Talks with Middle Eastern Petrochem Companies to Sell Stakes in OPaL ONGC Petro Additions Ltd (OPaL) is in talks with local and overseas petrochemical companies to sell 25% in the Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd ( ONGC). The company is cooperatively owned by GAIC (India) Ltd, ONGC and GSPC (Gujarat State Petroleum Corp. Ltd. ONGC and GAIL hold 44% each in OPaL and GSPC holds the rest. ONGC plans to have a public shareholding of 25% in OPaL along with other public sectors and strategic investors. ONGC officials said that they are in talks with some Middle Eastern petrochemical companies and Saudi Aramco is one amongst them. OPaL at the moment is looking for a strategic investor who could add a lot of value to the project said an ONGC spokesperson. The mega petrochemical plant is located in Dahej, Gujarat. ONGC which was previously in talks with several foreign firms for a stake were stuck due to several delays which include cost overruns. The initial estimate of ` 12,440 crores has now increased to `27, 011 crore so far. Opal’s petrochemical complex will house India’s biggest Greenfields, single-location, and dual feed cracker. It can crack gaseous and liquid feed to produce 1100 kilo tonnes of ethylene per annum that can produce a wide spectrum of chemicals. The petrochemicals business in India will set more competitive national and global market with OPaL commissioning its plant. OPaL will be competing with Reliance Industries Ltd, Indian Oil Corp, Haldia Petrochemicals and ONGC Manglore Petrochemicals Ltd (OMPL). India is the leader in the rest of Asia with increasing demand for products containing petrochemicals and the flourishing manufacturing sector will enhance the regional market for petrochemical.
Reliance Commences Commercial Production Of Coal Bed Methane In Sohagpur Mumbai, India: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) commenced commercial production from its Coal Bed Methane (CBM) block SP(West)–CBM–2001/1 from 24th March 2017 and is currently supplying CBM for commissioning the Shahdol Phulpur Pipeline (SHPPL). The production from RIL’s Sohagpur CBM fields will gradually ramp-up in the next 15-18 months making RIL among the largest unconventional natural gas producers in India. CBM is an environmental friendly natural gas extracted from coal-bed and has become an important source of unconventional gas in many parts of the world. RIL was awarded the licence to explore two adjacent CBM blocks SP(West) and SP(East) with an area of 995 sq.km in the Round 1 of CBM block bidding by the Government of India in 2001. RIL has drilled more than 200 wells connected to two Gas Gathering Stations in the first phase of development. RIL expects to drill 600-800 wells further and develop associated infrastructure over the next phases of development.
Reliance Gas Pipelines Limited (RGPL) a wholly owned subsidiary of RIL, laid a 302 km Shahdol Phulpur Gas Pipeline that connects Sohagpur CBM fields from Shahdol to Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HBJ) pipeline Network of GAIL at Phulpur. With this new pipeline network these CBM Gas fields are now connected with the Indian Gas Grid.

New Siemens platform to support complete vision for global additive manufacturing market

National Fertilizers Ltd (NFL) is all set to invest Rs. 350 crores to set up a new production plant for dinitrogen tetroxide (N204) for ISRO. The plant will have capacity of around 1095 MT per annum (or 3 tonnes per day) which will be located at its Vijaipur (Guna, Madhya Pradesh) site. The company has already received Letter of Intent (LOI) for establishing the plant on own, operate, build, and supply model from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota (SDSCSHAR). The tenders for establishing the dinitrogen tetroxide was invited by ISRO in August 2016. ISRO will be utilizing Nitrogen tetroxide in specific stages of rocket launch. It will also be used for stages of launch vehicles and while ground testing of specific engines. The sole producer and supplier of N204 for ISRO is Hindustan Organic Chemicals Ltd (HOCL) which was supplying the product irregularly. Hence, ISRO started looking to set up a new plant for an uninterrupted supply National Fertilizers plans to start construction of the plant in July 2017 with commissioning expected in the next 18 months. NFL will supply N204 solely to SDSC-SHAR under long term agreement of 25 years period.

The expansion entails addition of new products namely, 25-TPM G-Salt, R-Salt, Amido G-Acid, Aniline 2,4 DSA, Aniline 2,5 DSA, Para Nitro Chloro Benzoyl Sulphonic Acid, Sulfo Tobias Acid, Para Cresidine Ortho Sulphonic Acid, Schaffer’s Acid, Broenner’s Acid. Total plot area is approximately 1,650-sq m, out of which, 300-sq m has been used for green belt development. 5-KLD effluent will be treated in-house ETP and 10KLD effluent will be sent to common MEE of MEPL for evaporation. Mamta Texdyes (Samba) proposes a synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit in GIDC Sarigam, district: Valsad, Gujarat. The project is spread over 2,250-sq m. The estimated cost of the project is `32-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to SEIAA sources, Eco Chem Sales Services is the environmental consultant. The proposed products are 200TPM sulphur black grains, 300-TPM sulphur black liquid and the byproducts are 250.1-TPM sodium thio sulphate crystal and 47.12-TPM sodium chloride salt. 700-sq m area has been proposed for green belt development. Industrial waste water will be treated in primary and tertiary treatment plant and treated waste water will be discharged into CETP Sarigam. Resipol Adhesives proposes an expansion of synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit in village: Rajpur, district: Mehsana, Gujarat. The estimated cost of the expansion is ` 40-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to SEAC sources, the manufacturing of existing products, 2.0-TPM benzyl alcohol, 1.1-TPM benzyl benzoate, 3.0-TPM benzoic acetate, 1.4-TPM sodium benzoate, 1.8-TPM sodium acetate will be discontinued and 300-TPM polyester resins (different grades) and alkyd resins (different grades), 90-TPM melamine formaldehyde resin and 85-TPM urea formaldehyde resin will be manufactured as new products. The plot area is approximately 6,033.00-sq m. Unit has proposed 2,000-sq m area for green belt development. Industrial effluent of 0.42-KLD after primary treatment will be evaporated in kettle type evaporator. Two DG sets each of 65-KVA will be provided. It was decided to recommend the project to SEIAA, Gujarat for grant of environmental clearance. Royal Wood proposes a 90-TPM phenol formaldehyde resin, urea formaldehyde resin, melamine urea formaldehyde resin and melamine formaldehyde resin manufacturing unit in village: Modvadar,
district: Kutch, Gujarat. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, existing products are 3-million sq m per month plywood, flush door, block board and veneer. The manufactured resin will be used for in-house consumption at the wood products plant. The project will come up on 11,603.62-sq m of existing land. The green belt area is 600-sq m. Eternis Fine Chemicals proposes an expansion of synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit from 42,200-TPA to 60,000-TPA in MIDC Kurkumbh, district: Pune, Maharashtra. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, total land area is 100,400-sq m and built-up area is 42,710-sq m. 33 per cent will be developed as green belt area. The project will entail: 1) capacity expansion of existing products and by-products; 2) addition of similar products and by-products; 3) introduction of new eco-friendly biomass boiler as replacement to furnace oil. Project involves manufacturing of fragrance from organic raw materials by chemical process like hydrogenation, esterification, Diels-Alder reaction, cyclisation, dehydrogenation, aldol condensation, etc, followed by distillation to match precise quality standards. By-products capacity will be augmented from 11,400-TPA to 20,000-TPA. The estimated cost of the project is ` 1,050-million. The power requirement 12,000-KVA will be available through Government Electricity Board. Panoli Intermediates (India) proposes an expansion of its specialty chemicals manufacturing unit and a new 10-MW coal-based captive power project in Unit-III, GIDC Nandesari, district: Vadodara, Gujarat. The estimated cost of the project is `100-million. The current status of the project could not be ascertained. According to MoEF sources, the total plot area is 15,480-sq m. The capacity of isomers and DNCB such as 2:4 DCNB, 2:6 DCNB, 2:5 DCNB is to be augmented from 200-TPM to 2,200-TPM, ortho anisidine/para anisidine from 100-TPM to 1,100-TPM, ortho nitro aniline/para nitro aniline from 300-TPM to 2,300-TPM, isomers of DCA from 80-TPM to 1,080-TPM, isomers and DCNB such as 2:3 DCNB, 2:5 DCNB. isomers of DCNB such as 2:3 DCNB, 2:5 DCNB, 3:4 DCNB from 200-TPM to 2,200-TPM, H-acid from 50-TPM to 500-TPM and addition of a new product namely, 1,500-TPM derivatives of nitro phenol and a new 10-MW coal-based captive power project. 10-MW power requirement is to be met from MGVCL and 10-MW from the captive power project. The effluent will be treated in proposed effluent treatment plant. Saras Plywood Products is planning a 60-TPM urea formaldehyde resin manufacturing plant in New GIDC Gundlav, district: Valsad, Gujarat. The existing land area is 1.5 acres. The estimated cost of the project is ` 7.5-million. Kalyan Industries is the equipment supplier. The project is waiting for environmental clearance. Civil work will commence in 3 months. The company proposes to manufacture 50-TPM of products as part of the expansion. Green belt on 33 per cent of the land area will be developed and maintained. Power requirement will be made available through SPCPDCL. The project will be completed within 2 years. Globex Laboratories (R&D) proposes a pigments manufacturing unit at village: Dabhasa, district: Vadodara, Gujarat. According to MoEF sources, the project will come up in the existing land on 9,312-sq m. Kadam Environmental Consultants, Vadodara is the environmental consultant. The project will entail manufacture of 40-TPM red pigments, 40-TPM yellow pigments and 450-TPM dilute phosphoric acid. Environment clearance has been obtained for the products – red pigments and yellow pigments. Construction work has begun, as EC and NOC have been received. Effluents generated will be treated in effluent treatment plant having MEE. The company has applied for Amendment in Environmental Clearance dated 26th September 2012 for change in fuel from LDO to agro waste briquettes and addition of one raw material, ie, phosphoric acid and generation of dilute phosphoric acid (25 per cent basis) as by-product. Bohra Industries is implementing an expansion of its chemical and fertilizer manufacturing unit at Umarda, district: Udaipur, Rajasthan on 14,500-sq m of existing land. The project will entail expansion of single super phosphate capacity from 400-TPD to 600-TPD, granulated super phosphate from 200-TPD to 300-TPD and addition of new products namely 150-TPD triple super phosphate, 550-TPD synthetic gypsum, 30-TPD Di-calcium phosphate, 160-TPD phosphoric acid, 0.3-TPD potassium fluoride, 150-TPD H 2SO4 and 0.3-TPD Sodium Tri Polyphosphate (STPP). Machinery has been ordered from China. Civil work is in progress. The project is scheduled for completion in 2018. Ami Lifesciences proposes expansion of its synthetic organic chemicals manufacturing unit (viz, pharmaceutical bulk drugs and drug intermediates) from 65.70-TPM to 131.60-TPM in Padra, district: Vadodara, Gujarat. The estimated cost of the project is ` 87.046-million. Environmental Consultant to this project is Envisafe Environment Consultants. According to MoEF sources, total plot area is 23,760-sq m (existing 10,270-sq m and 13,490-sq m for expansion). The unit currently manufactures 2-TPM 1-Acetyl Naphthalene, 1-TPM 2-Acetyl Naphthalene, 6-TPM Itopide HCl, 1.20-TPM Loxapine Succinate, 0.30-TPM Amoxapine, 6-TPM Venlafaxine, 6-TPM Progunil HCl, 6-TPM CB-2-L-Valine, 0.60-TPM Nateglinide, 0.60-TPM Quetiapine, 24-TPM Carbomazepin and 12-TPM Oxacarbomazepin. The expansion will involve addition of new products. Water requirement from ground water source will be
increased from 34.53-cu m/day to 181-cu m/day after expansion. Effluent generation will be increased from 9.35-cu m/day to 79.5-cu m/day after expansion. Highly concentrated effluent will be sent to captive incinerator for incineration. Remaining effluent (70-cu m/ day) will be treated in the ETP comprising primary, secondary and tertiary treatment. Treated effluent will be sent to CETP for further treatment. ETP sludge, inorganic residue and incineration ash will be sent to TSDF. Spent carbon, organic residue will be sent to incinerator. Adi Finechem is planning a 40-TPA specialty products manufacturing project on a 2-acre land at an estimated cost of ` 400-million in village: Chekhala, district: Ahmedabad, Gujarat. MINING Metabluu Power, a sister concern of Minera Udyog India, is planning a 75,000-TPA iron ore mining project in village: Devikonda, district: Karimnagar, Telangana. The project is awaiting Government approval. Aryan Ispat & Power is planning an expansion of its coal washery in village: Bamoloi, district: Sambalpur, Odisha. The project will come up in the existing 204.65-acre integrated steel plant premises. The capacity of the project is to be augmented from 0.70-MTPA to 5.70-MTPA. The cost of the project is ` 600.7-million. The project is awaiting environmental clearance and planned for completion in 1-year from zero date. According to MoEF sources, the expansion is based on heavy media cyclone (wet process) technology. The washery will produce washed coal of an average ash around 34% (GCV 4,350Kcal/kg), middling (ash content about 58%) of GCV around 2,350-Kcal per kg useable as fuel in FBC boilers. The proposed expansion will be the state-of-the-art with close circuit water system, classifying cyclone, high frequency screens, thickener and multi-roll belt press filters. Power requirement of 5-MVA will be sourced from its own power plant connected with the Grid Corporation of Odisha. DSP Associates is planning a 15,17,600-TPA sand (minor mineral) mining project in the mines of Tikola-1 Sand Unit at village: Tikola, district: Gurgaon, Haryana. Mining lease area is 42.50-hectare. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 55-million. The project is waiting for environmental clearance. Mining work is expected to commence soon. According to MoEF sources, out of the total area, 31.50-hectare area falls in the river bed and 11-hectare area falls in agricultural land (outside river bed). Method of mining will be opencast semimechanized without drilling and blasting. The mine will be excavated out in layers up to a depth of 3-m in riverbed and 9-m in agricultural field. Letter of Intent (LoI) for mining contract has been granted for a period of 9 years.
