Our second episode is a very exciting interview with two very esteemed guests, the GB Hockey player Mrs Elliott and the England cricketer Miss Fogwill who share with us what it is like to represent your country in sport. At St Teresa's we are lucky enough to have both of these talented sportswomen as PE teachers benefitting greatly from their professional experience. Miss Fogwill and Mrs Elliott share their personal insights in this episode, explaining how they achieved their individual sporting successes and sharing valuable advice from what they have learnt along the way. We hope that you enjoy listening to this very inspirational episode!

SIXTH FORM NEWS

Hello everyone! I can’t believe we have reached the end of term so quickly. We have had a very memorable term with so many exciting opportunities for the Sixth Form and the rest of the school. So, without further ado, welcome to an insight into our last week:

On Tuesday, some of the Sixth Formers completed their UK-TEFL qualification in a one day workshop. The course will enable the students to teach English as a foreign language, whether working abroad with children or teaching non-native English learners in the UK. The qualification is internationally recognised and will open many doors in the future. To show us a typical lesson structure, our tutor, Meryl Burgess, gave us an example lesson in Welsh! She introduced us to a variety of techniques and games for teaching new vocabulary and we also had the chance to present our own lessons in groups where we incorporated all the skills we had learnt and received constructive feedback. We found the course thoroughly engaging and informative and now feel prepared to use these new skills to make a difference.

On Wednesday, the Year 13 Business students went to a Tutor2U Edexcel Grade Booster workshop in Westfield in White City. We were given lots of tips and hints that will help us for our upcoming A Level exams and we all completed lots of exercises which made the workshop very engaging. During our lunch break, we enjoyed a delicious lunch at Nando’s and a little bit of shopping! We then went back to the afternoon session of the workshop to learn more about the calculation questions before getting the bus back to school. It was a great day out and very useful for our upcoming exams. Thank you to Mrs Angel for organising this trip.

On Thursday during form time, the Sixth Formers had a wonderful time decorating their eggs for the annual egg rolling competition taking place on Friday. The Head Girl Team were very pleased to receive multiple amazingly decorated eggs from the other year groups and the staff and, we are very ‘eggcited’ to get ‘cracking’ with the annual egg rolling competition on the driveway!

I hope everyone has a fantastic Easter break with lots of time for rest and relaxation. I look forward to seeing everyone after the Easter holidays.

BOARDING NEWS

This week Boarding was filled with exciting activities as we approach the end of term!

The girls this weekend set out on a trip into London to Westfield shopping centre! Armed with their reusable bags, they endured the treacherous task of finding the perfect outfits and accessories to fashion around during the upcoming holiday break! The drive home was filled with lots of tired shoppers and worn-out fashionistas!

Sunday’s weekly walk was unfortunately cancelled this week due to the weather; this however would put no dampening on any of their moods as they alternatively set out to Starbucks for an end of week coffee, hot chocolate, or Frappuccino!

This Sunday also saw an Easter Egg Hunt. Taking place all around the school, the girls had to search for eggs that contained letters, forming the word ‘CHOCOLATE EGG’. We offered big congratulations to our winners, Maria, Fatima, and Teresa. To continue our celebration of the Easter period, Deacon Simon invited the girls to a chapel service to discuss the importance of this period in the religious calendar. He informed the girls of the true origin of chocolate Easter eggs by sharing personal anecdotes from his childhood and told the story of Jesus’ resurrection.

The end of term was not the only fast approaching date, however. The school’s musical performance of ‘Hairspray’ was on a rapid countdown, as girls got in their last final practices; they spent all day Sunday in full cast rehearsals. All of boarding are very excited for their Tuesday and Wednesday performances. We congratulate Pretoria, Sophia, Taylor, Adriana, Marta, Mo, AJ, Olivia, Alicia, Issy, Amarie and Aimee for their hard work towards these performances!

As we look forward to next term, some exciting trips include the upcoming May bank holidays, consisting of Harry Potter World and Thorpe Park. Some other weekend trips will include Brighton, Arundel Castle and no doubt some shopping!

Unfortunately, the conclusion of this term also brings an upsetting goodbye to our long-term gap student Miss Maria, as she concludes her time at St Teresa’s and sets off back home to Ecuador! We will miss you Miss Maria, thank you for all your help and support this year.

ART NEWS, PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

During this half term we launched the photography competition where the girls were given a design brief “The Natural World”. We received so many amazing submissions and everyone should be incredibly proud, but the winning 2 submissions went to Hannah B in Year 9 on her woodland images and Rosie C in Year 7 for her sunset image. Congratulations to everyone who submitted their work!

In Art Club this term the girls have worked hard creating their own felt macaroons and biscuits inspired by the work of Lucy Crick and Lucy Sparrow, in which they learnt to sew and stuff pieces of felt to create 3D forms. The results were great, and I look forward to working with the girls next term on some digital experiments.

Best wishes, Neve S, Art Captain

MEDSOC

This week in Med Soc, we had an amazing talk given to us by our school nurses. Nurse Sarah spoke to us on how she went down the route of neuroscience nursing. She explained her passion for helping children with hydrocephalus, which is a neurological disorder caused by an abnormal build up of cerebrospinal fluid in the ventricles deep within the brain. Nurse Katie also came to speak to us and told us how she went down the neonatal route, where she cared for babies who were sick or premature. She said that after a certain period of time certain babies would thrive better in a home environment rather than staying in the hospital, this would also allow the baby and mother to make a bond earlier on. The smallest baby she sent home was only 1.4kg.

The itinerary and kit list for the Year 10 Geography Field Trip to Osmington Bay in Dorset was sent out this week, see below:

CCF NEWS

On Saturday, cadets from both schools went paintballing. The cadets were split into two teams consisting of both boys and girls. The teams competed against each other doing a variety of tasks, which included obtaining fighter jet batteries from the opposing team in a Star Wars themed area, and a zombie head from a graveyard. The cadets all applied their skills learnt throughout their time at CCF to sneak around the areas unseen and complete the tasks to win. It was a very enjoyable experience at paintballing; a great way to work with the other cadets, all whilst learning valuable skills for the future such as teamwork, some leadership skills, listening skills, shooting skills, communication skills, and many more.

The cadets all worked well together and fought tremendously leading to a conclusion of a draw.

"There is so much on social media to look at, in fact in the media generally. We hear about fake news, we know that images are filtered, perhaps we even do that ourselves. But, what's the truth? How do we know what to believe? Let's look at the celebrity world and see what they show us and what the real story is. If we were all more honest, would we seek perfection in the way that we often do? Let's look at the power of social media - both good and bad. "

Hannah Fernando was the news editor of Heat magazine, working her way up to edit the title. She has worked on numerous women's lifestyle magazines and currently edits Woman magazine.

HAIRSPRAY—THE MUSICAL!

“You have to think big to be big,” declares Tracy Turnblad, the feisty teenager who brings racial integration to aTV dance show and marks a turning point for 1960s Baltimore – for bopping, beehived teenagers at least. And what a joyous turning point it proved to be. With an ensemble cast fromYears 7 to Sixth Form, the talented cast of Hairspray had the audience singing, dancing, and clapping with rapturous applause.A colourful extravaganza that spoke a powerful message of politics, race, size and female self worth and, left the audience howling for more.

A real triumph for Director Miss Hansen, and a performance that cast and crew should be proud of.

This Week

As today we break up for the Easter holiday, we pray that the joy of Easter will be in our homes and in our hearts as we celebrate the resurrection of Christ our Lord.

After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.’

‘He is not here; he has risen, just as he said he would!’

We are all looking forward to the Easter break so the ponies can have a bit of a rest, but there are Pony Days and lessons still running.
