SIXTH FORM NEWS

Hello everyone and welcome to half term!

This week, Aleisha A, our fantastic Mental Health and Wellbeing Prefect, launched an exciting opportunity for the Sixth Form: “On Wednesday 5th July, Mrs Cawley and I will be running a Youth Mental Health First Aid course available to the Sixth Form. It is an all day event centred around learning useful and tactful responses to people dealing with stressful situations and poor wellbeing, also delving into the effects of drugs and alcohol on youth mental health. It will be a very informative talk and we are very excited for it!”

Last week, our wonderful Pastoral Prefect, Sophie R, and her pastoral team ran a form time quiz for the younger years. It was very successful with Mrs Elliott saying that she has ‘never seen her form class work together so much!” Well done pastoral team!’ Thank you so much to the wonderful Prefect Committee members Kirsten S, Coco Z, Mollie O and the prefects Emily E, Beth DT, Rosie S for making this project such a success. We look forward to seeing your exciting project that is planned next half term.

Last Friday, Year 12 had a PSHE talk. Aleisha A, a Year 12 student, shared “it was a very informative talk from David Leech and his company Crusaider First Aid, about mental health in the modern age of social media. It was very interesting hearing what he had to say, learning about what stress actually is, how it is both beneficial and harmful at different times and the strategies we can implement to relieve it. This was especially relevant to us at a time when we are all starting to prepare for our summer exams. The talk was very informative and we all really appreciated what he had to say.”

Year 12 had Monday and Tuesday off timetable for the annual two day Higher Education Event. We had a jam-packed schedule, including creating our university long and short lists, attending pathway seminars, talks on personal statement dos and don’ts, course placement talks given by alumna Charlotte D, Imogen L and Holly H and a cream tea to top it all off. They were an incredibly valuable two days that have definitely helped us to finalise university choices, start our UCAS applications and give us more confidence for writing our personal statements. Thank you to Mrs Randall, Miss Pitchford and Ms Clarke for all the hard work you put in to make the event a success!

Now of course, this half term is going to be a busy one for our St T’s girls preparing for exams after the break, but make sure to have some rest and rejuvenate before the next half of the term. Spend plenty of time in the sun and please do not stress.

I look forward to writing to you again and welcoming you back to school next half term!

BOARDING NEWS

This weekend the girls went to Airhop and then shopping in Guildford. It was such a lovely afternoon we decided to also go swimming!

All the boarders have been selecting photos they want to enter for the BSA photo competition. We set out props on the front lawn for the girls to use. We look forward to seeing what the girls wish to enter.

We hope you all enjoy your half term and look forward to the first trip back; we are going to watch Mamma Mia at the theatre!

YEAR 7 RESIDENTIAL TRIP

One of the five activities that the Year 7s took part in was the Crate Challenge; this activity was overall thoroughly enjoyed. This activity took lots of teamwork, and everyone had to help one another. This was when you and your partner would stand on two crates that increasingly get higher and higher. You had to balance with your partner until eventually you fell down.

All Aboard was a fun, but a bit of a nerve-racking activity. This consisted of a team of 3 or 4 people, climbing up a slim pole to reach the top of a wooden square, as big as a large pizza box. Holding onto each other, you tried to balance until someone fell! During this activity, you needed to use teamwork and positivity to help your teammates! It was hilarious to see everyone's reactions!

Indy Bridge was a high rope activity. During this adventure, you would climb up staples and go through obstacles to get to the top, which felt like accomplishment. We even timed ourselves, some even getting 17 seconds, beating the instructor's previous records.

The zipwire is a well-known experience. You might think you have been on a regular zip-wire, in a playground or park; but this zipwire really went above and beyond, travelling 100 metre in total. Everyone loved it!

Scrambling was like rock-climbing, down a mud slide. The instructors told us how millions of years ago, the rocks were under water. We could see the holes where previous animals have made homes. Now sand wasps come and nest in these little holes.

Overall, the activities were out of this world!

Later in the evening, after we had dinner, we all got cosy in our pyjamas and walked through the forest towards the campfire. We held a talent show, with Mr Breeze as Simon Cowell, Mr Andrews as Louis Walsh and Mr Neate as Cheryl Cole. What a great time! We had rappers, beatboxers, singers, actors, and even basketball players. We sang many songs such as 'Bongoloo' and 'Mr Worm'. The campfire was thoroughly enjoyed. After that we all went to bed, but only slept when the teachers had evacuated spiders from sleeping bags.

Overall, this trip will be remembered and everyone enjoyed it so much. We look forward to future trips like these. Remember, 'Hey you, Hey you, Show me how you Bongaloo!'

This Week

In our scripture reading this week (Matthew 13:45 46), Jesus uses the metaphor of treasure and pearls. Those who find the treasure set aside everything else in their lives to pursue the greatest treasure. Often in our lives we can become obsessed with false treasure, those things that occupy us and eat up our time and our energy to the exclusion of everything else. Only later, as we look back, do we come to realise that what we esteemed so highly is actually of little or no worth at all.

Our world prizes these types of treasure - wealth, status, reputation, possessions. While it is true that none of these things are inherently wrong in themselves, they do lead us down a deceptive backwater that ultimately leads us to placing ourselves at the centre of our universe to the exclusion of all others.

Jesus’ vision for us and for all humanity is to pursue that which has real, abiding treasure.

The metaphor of a pearl is a beautiful one. Of course, in the first instance, we recognise the natural beauty of a pearl. Yet we have done nothing to produce this beauty. Instead, it is a free gift, much like the grace that, if we choose to recognise it, God pours out on each and every one of us.

But there is more. The production of a pearl is a slow process, gently building up over time, totally hidden from sight, often in the deepest, darkest places, down among the mud. What, we might ask, can come of such a place? Yet, as we know, that pearl is there, ready for each of us to discover and recognise its true value.

As we reflect on those things in life that are true treasures, help us to turn our full attention to these things so that, as Jesus reminds us, we can build up that real treasure in our heavenly home.

We hope that you have had a good week, and are looking forward to the half term.

As the weather has become unpredictable, please make sure your child brings a raincoat for riding if the forecast is showing thick clouds or rain, and if it’s due to be hot then make sure they are wearing a shirt that covers their shoulders. It has been so variable lately that the staff are still bringing all their coats, just in case!

If there are any school trips or events that your daughter will be doing instead of riding, then please let the office know by phone or by email. As, if you wish to cancel a lesson, we do require 48hrs notice or more in order to offer credit. Any later and we are unable to fill the slot with a rider for a catch up lesson or off the waitlist.

May Half Term

The half term dates are available to book!

Have a look on our online site to book your spaces now!

Bobby and Sid have new saddles which are very nice and fit them well, so they will be more comfortable in their lessons. The riding lessons have gone very well recently with the riders and horses enjoying the warmer weather.

The horse of the week is… Bobby!

We wish you luck in the next competition!
