Our Goole had a chat with Rachael to find out more about the fantastic work she has been doing these past months. How did the idea come about? I moved to Goole and started my job as the Children and Families worker at St John’s Church (it used to be known as the parish church) just before Christmas last year. We’re down near the docks and you can see the spire from almost everywhere in Goole. My role is to help children and families by providing different ways for them to get involved and interact with their faith and the church. Page 14
I had planned to run a family event at Easter for families to explore the Easter story but that ended up not happening due to lockdown!
“Facebook has become a great way to start something new. I feel it has been a success moving online and I am now in more regular contact with our church families as well as some newer families too.” So because I couldn’t gather people together I moved online.
I started to send out weekly emails for families already connected with the church with a bible story, craft activities and a creative prayer idea. However, I knew I wanted to reach more families in Goole so moved on to social media and started up a Facebook page. I have been sharing content every day on there when i’m working.
