Are we just toooo busy…

Recent research indicates we are working longer, harder and not necessarily smarter or shorter hours.

In the mid 90’s we were told that by 2010, the internet, email and the paperless office would assist us to work smarter and shorter hours. We would have more work/life balance and more social time.

The average couple with two children aged between 5-18 years old, spend approximately 56mins of quality time, one-on-one with each other per week (outside the bedroom communicating). Hmmm, pleased to report I am an above average communicator.

We are all just too tired. To exhausted to commit to a range of activities, we all want to do more, exercise, spend more time with family, friends, is it any wonder sexercise is being put on hold as well.

People that work long hours are apparently the hardest to encourage to the bedroom or go to bed separately (stating the obvious – having less fun).

All this keeps us healthy – in mind, body & spirit, it helps keep our tank full.

In this issue, read about the White Ribbon campaign, get to know Jane Garland, Paul Goiak a little, read about the latest movies, getting a little fitter or just cook something new for the whole family.

MESSAGE “White Ribbon seeks to end violence against women through primary prevention initiatives that encourage change in attitude and behaviour that leads to violence.“

Hills Group actively supports a number of local and national events and charities via the Hills Charity Support Scheme, the donation of product and services and the personal exertion by many Hills employees. Not only do these provide us with an opportunity to reach out and connect with communities, they are also a great way to help bring much needed attention to worthy and admirable causes.

One such valuable initiative that Hills recently supported, and I was proud to take part in, was the Message on a Ribbon campaign for the not-for-profit organisation White Ribbon.

White Ribbon seeks to end violence against women through primary prevention initiatives that encourage change in attitude and behaviour that leads to violence. To help draw attention to this cause, Hills recently partnered with South Australian independent theatre and arts company, Zee Productions, to carry out the Message on a Ribbon project.

The program included visiting locations across the state and engaging the public to pledge their support through messages written on white silk ribbons hung from none other than a Hills hoist. The project received great exposure following its inclusion at numerous events across the state, such as the popular Norwood festival and through ongoing endorsement by Hills Home and Hardware Products.

I was honoured to be invited to Parliament House in South Australia to commemorate the awareness generated by the campaign. It was there where the Hills hoist, adorned with hundreds of heartfelt messages, was displayed for renowned fine art photographer, Robert McFarlane to capture.

For me, not only was it gratifying to see the involvement of our Hills brand with such a compassionate organisation, it was an opportunity to come home and share another moment in the history of our iconic brand with my father Bob. This is just one example of a remarkable awareness campaign that our businesses across the board participate in. Not only is it the success of our brands that should make us proud, but our contributions to community and goodwill programs.

Message

So we have ruled off the books to end another financial year and managed to report a small increase in profit for our shareholders.

In a time when reduced profits and lower future expectations are very common it was a credit to the Hills team to deliver this result and to be able to provide our shareholders with a higher dividend this year.

While all of that is great, there is no higher priority for me than to see Hills continue its improvement in our safety record. This year saw a reduction in our lost time injury rate of 62.%. I remember a couple of years ago issuing a general memorandum to congratulate everyone on going one month without lost time injury. This year we had seven months without a lost time injury.

That said there are a number of serious near misses this year so regardless of the statistics we must continue to be more vigilant in our work places to ensure our goal of zero harm is achieved.

While there are many new faces across the Hills group during the year I was particularly pleased to welcome Rachel Rees, our Company Secretary and Jane Garland our General Manager of Home and Hardware Products to the business. I am personally committed to bring a greater diversity to our Hills team and in particular the management team. In

{6

todayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s competitive world we need to ensure that we access one hundred per cent of the talent pool and while our initial focus will be on gender this extends also to age and race, and many other characteristics.

We were pleased to welcome the team from Herma in February and we have been delighted with their performance since they joined the group.

There is a great deal of innovation and new product ideas going on around the group. These range from our new ironing board design which has won for an Australian design award to the new Boabab tanks at Team Poly, the innovative Aramax long span profile at Fielders and a range of products developed in Hills SVL and Hills Electronic Security built around our own software.

These software developments are particularly exciting as we believe they will give us the opportunity to take electronic products to overseas markets for the first time.

We have recently welcomed Paul Goiak, our General Manager Mining Services to the group. The Australian economy has been described as twospeed with the mining industry being in the fast lane. While we have had quite a bit of success in areas such as pipelines and piling from Orrcon, EzyStrut product at Korvest, our Exterity product

into McArthur Coal and plumbing and communication products into mining camps our approach has been more opportunistic than strategic. So Paul’s job is to bring to the Hill’s Board a business plan on how Hills can maximise this opportunity in this exciting field. No pressure Paul!

This year we all need to be committed to delivering our budgets both in terms of the sales and profits, but also to focus on how we go about our business and the amount of cash that we have invested. We will see continuing initiatives around reducing inventories and extending payment terms from our suppliers.

We have recently extended all of our banking facilities and we continue to have very good relationships with our bankers.

So when you sum it up despite the fact that most markets are and are expected to remain tough for some time Hills has some great plans for growth, low debt levels and a whole lot of new initiatives coming through. Even in very bad times we generate profits and cash and we have the best people on our team.

Who would want to work anywhere else!

When did you commence working for Hills?

What have been your first impressions of Hills as a company?

The business is obviously quite diversified and with that brings its own set of challenges, particularly in the current economic climate. I'm a great believer that economic uncertainty offers great opportunity, so letâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hope we can capitalise on those opportunities.

What would you do if you had a month off work?

If I had saved my pennies, I would probably head for an international destination. It is fun to explore new cities and regions, appreciating the diverse architecture that is always on offer, sampling the local chocolate, wine and beer (never together!) and of course finding some time to hit the shops. If the truth be known, I have missed a visit to Michelangelo's David because I was waylaid in a shoe store in Florence. David will always be there, but those shoes could possibly never be found again!

When travelling, I also make sure I spend time outdoors; doing some hiking, getting lost in national parks and swimming in the ocean. I also go on a bike ride once a year with friends. It is a 45 day adventure and this year we rode through Molesworth Station in the mountains just south of Marlborough on NZâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s South Island.

There is a very human undercurrent that indicates to me that the company wants every person to be able to operate at their peak. That can be extremely empowering and, when everyone's strengths are being leveraged, some great results should be evident.

Tell me a little about yourself?

Born and bred in Melbourne I chose to study business, with a Marketing major, as I knew I would get to work with great brands, be able to travel and be able to see the fruits of my labour.

Being somewhat impatient for results, I don't think a career such as archaeology or scientific research was ever going to appeal!

My family consists of a wonderful husband, my parents, two siblings and four gorgeous nieces. We are a close-knit family and I am thoroughly looking forward to next month when the Garland family will enjoy our first holiday together in 33 years. All 12 of us are heading away together for 10 days. I am bound to be sore from laughter by the

What do you do when you're not at work?

I love spending time at my parents' hobby farm in Victoria's Strathbogie Ranges. I discovered a passion for garden design a few years ago and proceeded to wreak havoc at the farm as I tore out old Australian natives and created a Mediterranean style, drought tolerant garden with a pergola amidst the landscaping. We now enjoy the most wonderful alfresco dinners in summer, under a canopy of grape vines, listening to the bird life settle down as the sun creates a blaze of colour on the horizon. Heaven.

Can we talk about your management style, what motivates you to do your best on the job?

There is nothing more satisfying than delivering results and seeing your team succeed. Success delivers a few things: confidence, enthusiasm and freedom. My experience has been that when you are delivering results, the senior executive group has confidence in your ability and is willing to take calculated risks. Those risks can pay significant dividends.

Success also opens up opportunities for individuals to play to their strengths, it ensures people are promoted as the business grows, and it ensures celebration abounds. There is a building sense of belief in the HHP team that we are going to make a significant impact in the next 18 months. The coming 6 months will be hard work as we prepare ourselves for the future, but

once we're ready, I'd like to think there'll be no stopping us.

What qualities do you look for in a Manager?

Transparency, fair-play, hard work, a good sense of humour, humility, honesty and support for the team.

Tell me about the most fun you have had on the job?

I thought long and hard about this question and again it all comes back to team work. Whether delivering award-winning, long-running campaigns for Yellowglen and Wolf Blass when I worked in advertising; being part of the team that developed a unique launch for a wine that went on to win the Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy; converting a huge proportion of John Danks stores to our product range when I worked in sales at Black and Decker; or launching the Bonds brand onto the domestic market in China. All of those experiences had great highs because they created great success out of seriously hard work. We had great fun along the way and some beautiful friendships have endured.

Is there anyone you really admire in life, a person that perhaps inspires you?

Not particularly one individual but certainly anyone who stays positive in the face of adversity or a seemingly insurmountable challenge. The usual contenders such as Gandhi and Nelson Mandela come to mind, but even more so those who suffer loss, poor health, financial hardship, failure, etc and who are able to constantly see the positives amidst those experiences.

What are your dreams and aspirations for the future?

To keep having fun, making a contribution and being able to travel. I thoroughly enjoy working, achieving goals and being surrounded by people with a common purpose. The only thing that is missing from my life is a dog. We purchased a home with a larger backyard a couple of years ago, just so that I could buy a puppy. I know the breed I want and he/she already has a name. It is perhaps that I am frequently travelling to Adelaide and the Bailey plant in Queensland that I have not yet acquired a little ball of fluff, but I'm happy to wait for now. This photo was taken in New Zealand and the puppy I am holding was only one week old. I certainly could have taken him home!

WOMEN INSPIRING WOMEN uring the last week of July I had the privilege of listening to some amazing women tell their story and share their challenges, successes and frustrations in their journey to the top. Apart from being incredibly inspiring, they had consistent messages for their enthusiastic listeners that I would like to share with you. These are: • Speak up and be heard - have an opinion and don’t be afraid to share it • Build effective networks, remain curious and explore opportunities • Have a trusted mentor to assist you to learn and grow • Find a sponsor who will promote you and your capabilities to others • Give back to your community • Identify your transferrable skills and don’t let fear stop you from taking the next step; and • If you want more from your career, tell someone that can help you make it happen!

Support for William Rose School In June, seven staff members from across different Hills business units came together to present a $25,000 cheque to a very worthy organisation in Seven Hills NSW on behalf the Hills Charity Support Scheme.

William Rose School has a total of 67 students from K-12 and caters for students who have a sensory disability plus an additional disability (vision impaired, hearing impaired and deaf/blind with additional disabilities).

Hills employees were treated to a fantastic morning including a full school assembly with singing from the school choir, a tour of the school and their facilities and a very special lunch prepared by senior school students.

School Principal, Trevor Townsend said “It is only with the generosity and sense of community support from companies like Hills Holdings that we are able to provide such an enriched learning environment for all of our students. This helps us to provide a more level playing field for our students and enables them to have equality of access to the regular and adapted curriculum.

While, like other state schools we are well supported by the Department of Education and Community, this additional funding ensures that we can purchase audio visual and sensory stimulation equipment. This equipment is vital in helping our students develop skills, knowledge and understanding in preparation for life”.

Hills SVL Group at VIVID Light Festival Sydney The Vivid Light Festival held along Sydney Harbour foreshore in May and June displayed various building projections and coloured lighting displays including “Water Droplet” a custom made aluminum and polycarbonate light sculpture designed by the engineers at Aurecon consulting.

The Hills SVL Group brought the sculpture to life with the addition of several integrated sound, lighting and interactive control elements, including DTS Dive 9 and Focus lighting fixtures managed by an LSC Pharos programmable show controller. A MediaMatrix NION N6 provided sophisticated audio processing and control along with Australian Monitor AMD4100P amplification, three Turbosound Impact 35T satellite speakers and a hidden AM Cafe80P self-powered subwoofer.

When visitors stepped inside they heard a custom ambient musical composition of water sounds, thunder and didgeridoo.

Striking one of the five DTS-lit ‘wind chime’ tubes triggered a lighting state change and a surround-panning wind chime sound effect.

The project was led by Jeff Shoesmith (SVL Consultant BDM) and Paul Owen (SVL Lighting Manager) with programming assistance from fellow Hills SVL staff Phil Scheul, Aaron Lee and Joel Mulpeter.

Y

ou may be aware that Hills have appointed a new General Manager for Mining Services, meet Paul Goiak.

Paul is a qualified engineer and comes to Hills very highly regarded by Uranium One Australia where he was previously employed as a Well field Manager. Paul will be Adelaide based and concentrating on the Mining resources sector.

Prior to Uranium One, Paul worked for Carl Zeiss Vision who is a world leader in the manufacture of optical lenses where he was the Operations Director for two years for both Australia and New Zealand. Before Carl Zeiss Vision he was employed by Holden an iconic Australian vehicle manufacturer for several years.

We have all read about the very high level of activity in the mining industry in Australia at present. We have had some great success in selling many products into mining applications but as part of our strategic plan we have decided to look for ways to improve our approach to this market, Paul is assisting by assessing this sector at present.

Paul is married with an 8 year old son, who loves playing soccer and

Paul loves spending time encouraging the team from the sideline. Paulâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s other passions include cooking, spending time in the kitchen where he is comfortable and more than happy whipping up a meal for his family and friends to enjoy (usually to accompany a good glass of red).

Paul loves music and is a budding guitarist; he finds it very relaxing and a great way to escape especially when work is extremely busy (a great distraction).

Paul will compliment the skills of the existing strong leadership team and provide beneficial input towards our future growth and strategic direction in the Mining sector.

So if you are passing in the corridor of Hills Corporate head office and spot Paul, do stop, introduce yourself and say hi, perhaps ask him for his latest recipe.

Focus on Continuous Improvement sees Outstanding FY12 Results Orrcon Steel’s Salisbury Manufacturing Site has achieved a number of significant milestones in the past financial year through a focus on continuous improvement. The site exceeded multiple production targets and reduced manufacturing costs – all while keeping safety the number one priority.

In total, 52 Salisbury manufacturing records were broken, including exceeding the production target by 16%, producing the highest ever tonnage of steel in a single month and reducing the cost of goods manufactured by 15%.

Salisbury Site Manager Steve Chapman praised his team on their exceptional achievements. “Breaking these records shows what can be achieved when we put our heads together and focus on continuously improving our manufacturing operations. We have 152 manufacturing staff onsite, and each and every one of them played a part in reaching these milestones,” Chapman said.

“Most importantly, safety was always our first priority. As of the 23rd July, 2012 we celebrated 2 years Lost Time Injury (LTI) free. The team is to be congratulated on their outstanding efforts.” Steve stated.

Security 2012 delivers latest technology

Recently DAS & Pacific Communications exhibited at Security 2012, Australia premier Security Industry event.

General feedback indicated attendance of Security 2012 was slightly down on previous years, however that didn’t matter to our professional team. Having an extensive range of new product to show and tell, was exciting not just for our customers but also for our staff, the stand was a constant buzz.

One visitor said “Wow, the Hills stand is extremely busy it is really hard to get close to the products” (great problem to have at a trade show, too many potential customers). Security 2012 was a great way to engage with existing and new customers, discuss our new product offering, strengthening existing relationships with our supplies.

As Security 2012 we introduced and showcased the latest Optex

range our newest products to compliment our existing offering.

Hills signed an agreement with Optex Co. Ltd, the global leader in infrared detection devices, for exclusive national distribution in Australia of its innovative sensors.

Optex is synonymous with product innovation, performance and reliability and has been the leading sensor brand in the Australian Security Industry for over 20 years. Optex continues to invest heavily in innovative technologies that are deployed by leading security solution providers to meet their clients’ most demanding security needs.

Optex security equipment will have exclusive distribution in the near future through DAS and Hills Pacific Communications.

Optex products will be available through DAS and Pacific Communications from July 2012.

Name that Satellite (trailer)…

Cygnus Satellite recently launched the latest in its series of transportable satellite trailers.

The “go-anywhere” trailers deliver on Cygnus’s promise of “IP Anywhere” and enable customers to instantly setup IP based communications in remote and rural areas outside the reach of terrestrial fibre or 3G mobile networks.

The Series 2 trailer builds on the experience gained from construction and operation of the existing fleet of auto-deploy and manual deploy trailers, and offers increased flexibility and optional extras, including self contained operation using an onboard diesel generator or batteries, which may be recharged by an optional solar panel array.

The trailer also provides equipment increased rack space for

onboard routers or switches, together with optional communications masts and other communications equipment, enabling each trailer to be customised to the particular requirements of the client.

The Series 2 trailer made its debut at the Telstra National Sales Kick-Off Conference in Melbourne in July, and was the hit of the four day show.

Four of the Series 2 Auto-Deploy satellite trailers have already been ordered by Telstra to supplement their existing fleet, also supplied by Cygnus.

Cygnus is running a competition and offering Dinner for 2 to the value of $200 for the best appropriate name for the Cygnus Satellite trailers.

STEP Electronics Support Australia’s Defence STEP Electronics involvement with the Defence WGS (Wideband Global SATCOM System) STEP is currently in the testing phase of a new relocatable Satellite Terminal for the Australian Department of Defence, using a General Dynamics 3.8metre antenna and associated electronics.

Projects such as these are undertaken with Step partners like Optus Communications.

Once complete, new Satellite Terminals are deployed by STEP in Australia and locations around the world to enhance Australia’s defence capability.

The Wideband Global SATCOM system (WGS) is a high capacity satellite communications system planned for use in partnership by the United States Department of Defence (DoD) and the Australian Department of Defence.

The constellation of WGS satellites increases the

communications capabilities of the militaries of the United States and Australia by providing additional bandwidth and communications capabilities for tactical command and control, communications, and computers; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, battle management and combat support information.

For the technically inclined: The WGS satellites will complement the DSCS III Service Life Enhancement Program (SLEP) and GBS payloads, and offset the eventual decline in DSCS III capability. WGS will offer 4.875 GHz of instantaneous switchable bandwidth, thus each WGS can supply more than 10 times the capacity of a DSCS III Service Life Enhancement Program (SLEP) satellite. Once the full constellation of 6 WGS satellites is operational, they will replace the DSCS system.

WGS-1 with its 2.4 Gbit/s wideband capacity, provided greater capability and bandwidth than all the DSCS satellites combined.

When a member contacts Plum, an experienced phone-based financial adviser will discuss the member’s situation and specific needs on contributions and selecting investments in superannuation. After 20 minutes the member will then receive, by

email, a Statement of Advice, which explains the advice and the steps required to implement it.

With the current market volatility and recent legislative changes to contribution limits, more Hills’ members are looking for guidance on these areas and demand for these types of services has increased. In addition to phone-based financial advice, members with more complex needs still have access to a panel of high-quality financial advisers via a face to face appointment on a fee for service basis. The Momentum Financial Advice and Private Wealth advisers are hand-picked by Plum and are located all around Australia to assist members.

Cup Cake Friday’s for Katoke, Tanzania Our very wonderful Maria Hagidemetriou has truly been making her mark by assisting change poverty in Tanzania.

Maria has been baking the most delicious cupcakes every Friday since last November to raise money for a village called Katoke which is in a very remote region on the of Tanzania near the border of Rwanda & Uganda.

Maria and Leonie Cox (Editor of the Herald) are passionate about changing poverty through education and better resources.

On their last trip to Tanzania, two years ago, they managed to purchase 3000 mosquito nets, over 10,000 toothbrushes and toothpaste which were distributed throughout the local community.

Facts relating to Malaria • Each day 3540 children under the age of 5 die from Malaria each day.

• Each single Mosquito net has the potential to save 4-5 lives as families as families sleep together huddled under a net for protection. Mosquito nets cost aprox $4.25 The girls are returning to Tanzania in September, this time

taking their partners with them to assist with building and water reticulation. They have raised more funds to purchase more mossie nets, toothbrushes and toothpaste. They are looking forward to assisting by educating students and share great moments with the beautiful people of Katoke.

It has been a great pleasure for all the staff at Riverwood to support and contribute to Maria’s cupcake drive. It hasn’t been easy to eat over 800 cupcakes, but hey it is for a great cause, another fact : These special cupcakes appear to have no calories or fat (not quiet true).

Victorian Supported Charities 2012 This year Hills Holdings management and staff have donated over $20,000 to the Royal Women’s Hospital Milk Run Fundraising program and Brothers in Arms.

The Milk Run was set up by Matthew Bell of the Royal Women’s Hospital to raise funds to purchase much needed breast pumps for the Newborn Intensive and Special Care (NISC) unit. Often described as ‘liquid gold’, breast milk is a vital ingredient in the care of premature and unwell babies Matt, who is the Nurse Unit Manager in the Women’s operating suites, and Jamie Smith, a personal fitness instructor, know the importance of giving every child the best possible start in life. Matt and Jamie are planning on running 100km’s in the North Face 100 to raise additional funds. By running in the North Face 100, a grueling 100km run through the NSW Blue Mountains, they hope to make a difference to the health of premature and unwell babies.

Breast milk has many unique properties; properties that support growth and protect against infection. Many of the babies admitted to the unit cannot be breastfed to start with, and can only receive breast milk via a tube.

For mothers with babies in intensive or special care, this means expressing milk with an electric breast pump, up to eight times every day.

By running 100km and with the donation from Hills, Matt and Jamie hope to raise enough money so that every mother with a baby in NISC has access to their own breast pump. We are both extremely grateful for the outstanding support shown by Paul Benson and all the people of Hills”.

BROTHERS IN ARMS Brothers in Arms is a team of Victorians raising funds for work with homeless youth in Melbourne’s west. Since beginning

fundraising in the 1980’s they have helped 11,000 kids through school and 250 through university as well as funding crisis accommodation for 200 kids annually.

The main focus of this program is to help homeless youth to reconnect with their family and the community at large increasing their future prospects through educational sporting and counseling initiatives.

The funds raised were used to purchase a generator to assist in offsite ventures. The team from Brothers in Arms are extremely happy that with the support of businesses like ours they are able to continue their work and offer these kids the best possible chance for a successful future.

New dinghy covers for Sailability WA Sailability WA operates from Royal Perth Yacht Club and is part of a sailing program that offers people with disabilities the opportunity to sail regardless of their level of ability, skill, or personal circumstances. The program offers three linked levels of activity, so people can choose to sail recreationally or race!

“We introduce people to sailing using the Access dinghies as a client assisted by an experienced skipper and volunteer staff, or as a Sailability WA member where we help you to sail yourself” said Ann Hodgkinson.

The dinghys were being destroyed by the elements when not in use and with Hills Charity Support member’s donation they were able to buy much needed dinghy covers to provide protection and keep the dinghy’s in good condition for all to use.

CHARITY SUPPORT DONATIONS IN SA Support for a great Charity in Cara This year we once again gave our support to a very deserving charity in SA - Cara, and donated $20,000 for a much-needed backyard makeover at their children’s respite service at Ingle Farm.

Cara’s children respite services provide a home away from home for children with a disability on weekends or in school holidays, offering a vital opportunity for parents to relax and enjoy the break that this temporary respite brings.

Our donation will be used to equip the service with a wheelchair accessible playground, a sensory garden, a pergola for year-round entertainment, and a neat and easy-to-maintain garden.

“Thank you to all the Hill Holdings staff members who contributed to this generous donation,” says Fiacre. “The children will undoubtedly be thrilled with the end result.”

We look forward to receiving progress updates from Cara.

GIRLS ON TRACK – HELPING GIRLS AND YOUNG WOMEN DEVELOP LIFE SKILLS

A donation of $4,800 was also made to Girls on Track in SA, a 6 week program run by Girl Guides in partnership with the Smith Family for girls between the ages of 7 and 12. The girls are selected for the program by their school councillors and principals and the Smith Family learning for Life workers.

Coming from vulnerable families, the program teaches girls life skills and helps them grow confidence and self-respect to become responsible community members.

RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE PERTH GETS AIR – CONDITIONING THANKS TO HILLS CHARITY SUPPORT SCHEME Since opening in November 1990, Ronald McDonald House (RMH) Perth has provided ‘a home away from home’ to thousands of rural families with a child undergoing treatment for cancer or other serious illnesses at Princess Margaret Hospital.

When families have to travel far from home to receive specialized medical care for their sick child, seeking accommodation in an unfamiliar place only adds to their stress and anxiety.

Treatments can sometimes take weeks, months or even years and children need their families close by for comfort and reassurance.

Though there is no place like home, Ronald McDonald House strives to provide a safe and comfortable environment where the whole family can stay together for the duration of treatment. But RMH isn’t just a practical resource; it’s a home with a heart. Our House eases the isolation of what can be a very stressful and frightening time by providing a setting in which families can connect and share friendships with other families who are going through similar experiences.

With an antiquated air-conditioning system that was stuck together with electrical tape it was time to upgrade and that’s where our donation saved the day and bought the house a new system.

Now the house is warm in winter and cool in summer to keep these very poorly children and their families as comfortable as possible.

“On my first visit to RMH Bec was showing me around and mentioned they were designing a new teenagers chill out room and that they wanted some graffiti to put on the walls and make it a lot cooler, so I put her in contact with a friend of mine Paul, a graphic designer. Paul gathered a few friends together and designed and painted a mural on the walls (pictures above) and it looks amazing!” said Emma Gibson, Charity Support Representative WA.

Hindmarsh abuzz with people during Primus Conference Room Pilots Primus Conference Room Pilot (CRP) sessions were held in late July to showcase the operation of the new system to a cross –section of staff from across Hills Group to enable them to gain an understanding of how the system works and to validate the software application against their business processes.

In total, 107 staff from across Australia were invited to attend the CRP sessions held at Hindmarsh in Adelaide over 5 days, participating in 5 different presentations.

“Even though we’re already on JDE 8.10, there’s some really useful new things coming which will make the system a lot more user friendly. I was involved in the move to JDE 8.10 and even I can see there’s a great deal of work still to do for us to get ready for implementation” said Carlie Harris-Schull, HHP, Richlands QLD, of the Manufacturing demonstration.

Mike Brunings Hills Corporate Services, Hindmarsh SA commented on the Procurement demonstration “It definitely looks user friendly and logical in structure. To some of us it looked clunky in some places but I believe that’s because things that normally occur in the background were being done manually for the purpose of the session, things like batch processing etc. I believe the fully automated system will remove that clunky feel.“ An excited Kylie Squire, Team Poly, Lonsdale SA said of the Supply Chain demonstration “I think the advantages for me were the import and export capabilities of the system and I also liked the fact that it seems to look more like a traditional windows page (drop downs etc.) I think it will be an easier introduction for most people than the Commercial System was for this reason“ “My initial thoughts as to what the 3 days would produce were very apprehensive. I assumed that the changes involved would be great and a possible step back to what I currently do. After 3 days of explanation of how JDE will work by Sam and Mark, I am leaving

knowing that the replacement JDE maintenance system will be a great benefit to me and our business unit” claims Stuart Wallis, Antenna, O’Sullivans Beach SA of the Maintenance demonstration.

40 Years of Long Service to the Industry Over my 40 years I have seen so many changes both in personnel and product.

When I first started at our then premises in Bayswater we had a morning tea lady and a lager lovers club that opened at 5PM and closed when the fridge was empty.

Bob Ling was the then M.D and on his rare visits to Perth would sometimes slip $20 in my hand and say “take the family out to dinner.”

One thing has always remained constant that is our people, I have been fortunate over my time to meet some really great ones that have become my close friends.

The Bailey® BBQ is on the Road This year the inaugural Bailey® BBQ hit the road from June to September, visiting key customers and their end users around Victoria. The exciting events gave Bailey® lovers the opportunity to meet their favourite AFL players, take away some branded merchandise and enjoy a sausage sizzle with our Bailey® team at the store.

AFL player appearances included Jake King from Richmond, Hamish McIntosh from North Melbourne and Geelong superstar Joel Selwood. The appearances drew significant crowds and facilitated further engagement at store level with autograph signing, photographs and general fan interaction.

The events leveraged Bailey® Ladders partnerships with the

AFL and AFL Victoria and saw VFL players from local clubs including Williamstown, Port Melbourne and the Casey Scorpions on hand to cook the sausages at each event. Despite the wintery Melbourne weather, the Bailey® BBQ was a huge hit with footy fans, raising hundreds of dollars for local clubs, giving away more than 1,000 snags and bringing our highprofile partnership with the AFL and AFL Victoria to the doors of our valued customers.

The Fielders Aramax FreeSpan steel roofing profile commenced rolling its most impressive project to date in late June. That says a lot for the new White Bay Passenger Terminal because in recent months Fielders Aramax has achieved significant results at WIN Stadium, Wollongong, and the record breaking 122m sheets rolled at the new WesTrac building in WA. It is the spectacular use of the Fielders Aramax FreeSpan steel roofing profile at White Bay that makes this project so unique.

Firstly, the ceiling will utilise 2500m2 of undulating 1.2mm perforated aluminium Aramax FreeSpan sheets spanning the width of the main pavilion. The external roof structure will then utilise 1.2mm aluminium Fielders Aramax FreeSpan sheets in mill finish to cover the 3300m2 roofscape.

Fielders Supporting Local Communities The Ultimate Shed Bash competition, drawn in April, was won by Brunswick Junction Community Resource Centre, Western Australia.

The event was held on Friday July 27th and hosted by our Endurance Shed Ambassador, Darren ‘Boof’ Lehmann. Over 100 guests were greeted with a sausage sizzle and drinks, followed by Darren discussing his cricketing life and fielding questions from the crowd.

There were some lucky door prize winners on the day, who each received signed cricket bats and balls from the former Australian cricketer.

National Marketing Manager, Cameron Hockey, said, ‘It was amazing to see the impact a visit by Endurance Sheds and Darren Lehmann had on a small community like Brunswick Junction. It really shows the diverse range of applications that our products are used.

We would also like to announce the re-signing of Darren Lehmann as the Endurance ambassador for the next twelve months. We are looking forward to working closely with him to ensure Fielders products are used in sporting and community clubs in metro and regional areas around Australia’.

Hoists Hang out on Henley beach!

Surrealist artist, Andrew Baines recently created his version of the modern Aussie backyard with a unique live art installation incorporating iconic Hills hoists along the shores of Adelaide’s Henley Beach.

“Hills loves to support local community events, after seeing the creativity and passion Andrew put into this idea we were pleased to help him out with some products,” Marketing Manager – Hills Branded Products, Steve Ellerman said.

Baines’ creative installation included six Hills hoists installed along the sand, complemented by lifeguards dressed in their distinctive red and yellow uniforms hanging up clothes – capturing the attention of many locals and passersby!

The installation was inspired by one of Baines’ previous works, The Post Modern Backyard which saw hoists used in a similar fashion on Sydney’s Bondi Beach in 2011.

As Andrew explained, “This installation was just so surrealistically antipodean! South Australia, the beach, life savers and Hills hoists all work together to build a stunning picture.”

To help bring Andrew’s latest vision to life, Hills loaned six Rotary hoists to support the intriguing initiative.

AEIOU Thanks Hills Holdings & Employees for Generous Donation Orrcon Steel recently had the pleasure of presenting $24,500 to the AEIOU Foundation on behalf of the Hills Holdings Group.

The AEIOU Foundation provides Queensland’s only fulltime early education program for children between the ages of 21/2 and 5 years with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Alan Smith, CEO of the foundation, expressed his thanks of the much-needed support. “We are delighted and grateful for this incredible support for our service and families. The donation of $24,500 will go towards play items for AEIOU’s centres throughout Queensland,” commented Mr Smith.

“These items ensure a wide variety of gross motor skills activities are available for the children, complementing other vital learning goals of the AEIOU program. Thank you to Hills Holdings and those employees who contribute to the Charity Support Scheme for this generous donation.”

HEALTH DO MEN LOSE WEIGHT FASTER THAN WOMEN? YES! Unfair as it sounds they certainly do.

Have you noticed that if a man decides he wants to loose say 610 kilos that it often seems to miraculously happen and the weight disappears? Where women can struggle for months to shift just 2 kilos? As unfair as it is most men can lose weight faster than women. Why is this so? Women often hold onto their weight longer and have more stubborn fat, it is our make up, a gene thing.

The truth is even simpler than that. Men are blessed… Men are genetically blessed with a hormone called testosterone and are designed with a higher ratio of muscle, which allows them to eat more calories. However, if we are looking at toning and weight loss, guess what, women usually get quicker and better results from pumping weights (we are not talking about getting ready to enter the Olympics), just shedding a few kilos and shaping up a little.

If you want to tone up and lose weight, you're not alone, aprox 30% Australians are trying to do the same thing at any given time.

While there are many things you can do to shed a few kilos, losing weight too quickly can be dangerous. Fad diets, diet pills and

Children watch, copy and model what we do. It all starts at birth and basic good old fashion manners are a great start. If you want your child to say ‘please’, say it yourself. If you don’t want your child to raise his/her voice, speak quietly and gently yourself. I am a great believer in positive reinforcement –sticker/star chats on the fridge are great for little people under 8, basic contracts verbal or written are wonderful for over 8, get your child to write up the contract while you are

fasting may help you reduce the number on the scale, but these methods can cause severe health issues. If you are generally healthy and you simply want to loose a little and tone up than weights can be the way to go.

My advice, some gyms often offer a one or two weeks free trial or 14 days $14, take advantage of it and try this. Attend two weight training classes (also know as Body pump) or go into a gym and try free weights with a trainer and you will be surprised at the impact of just 4 sessions (you don’t have to use heavy weights).

★★★ Battleship is a special-effects-heavy movie invented to extend the brand of a commercial board game — suitable for ages 7 and up! — in which two players move imaginary boats around a simple grid. That part's not newsworthy. The surprise, for this veteran of board games, is that Battleship is also the rousing, engaging, and emotionally complex action war picture the silly 2001 action war picture Pearl Harbor only wished it could be.

ICE AGE 4: CONTINENTAL DRIFT (MOVIE) ★★★★ RATED PG

CD REVIEW MYLO XYLOTO COLD PLAY ★★★★ In the three years since Coldplay's last album, the world's problems have gotten a little more urgent. A cratering economy, riots from Tahrir to Tottenham, the prolonged ubiquity of the Kardashians – these are things that can't be solved with a lullaby, even from the biggest band to emerge in the 21st century. Chris Martin knows this. But Coldplay's fifth album – and most ambitious yet – suggests Martin cares too much not to at least try to help.

Hysteria is a mischievous romantic comedy set in the late 19th century based on a very surprising truth of a Doctor Mortimer Granville. Starring Hugh Dancy, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Felicity Jones and other well know actors tell this amazing truth of a medically diagnosed female condition called Hysteria (hard to believe). It is the untold tale of the discovery of the birth of the electro-mechanical vibrator in a very prudish Victorian time. Amazing but true, mostly innuendo and very funny, good for a giggle, all in the name of science (apparently).

A continental cataclysm has triggered and a great adventure begins for our friends Manny the mammoth, Diego the soft hearted sabre tooth tiger, Sid the sweet idiotic sloth and Sid’s senile granny (voiced by Jennifer Lopez) a feline love interest for Diego.

The film has it all (a typical good receipe) seafaring pirates, good humor, spiced with a bit of danger. Our friends encounter big waves, bad pirates and treacherous sirens before reuniting with Manny’s family.

Ice Age 4 is not side splitting funny but has interesting characters and there’s enough humour and danger to make this worth watching.

THE THREE STOOGES ★★★ RATED PG (Slapstick comedy) Quiet a complicated plot and the film opens with the 3 boys dumped as babies outside an orphanage – yes, Moe, Curly and Larry. Initially the nuns think the three babies are a gift from God however later feel the troublesome trio are three very unusually children. Years pass and the very accident prone boys stay at the orphanage as they have a very unusual appearance and strange behaviour often frightens off potential adoptive parents. The movie then jumps forward 25 years where we find the orphanage is in financial trouble so the trio with other help make this there mission to assist. Very quirky, funny at times, children however seem to find it hilarious.

England’s Prime Minister's over zealous press secretary (Kristin Scott Thomas) latches on to it as a "good will" story, this unusual team will put it all on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove that it is actually all possible. It made me want to go to Yemen after watching the movie, however isn’t that usually the case if a movie is good.

Suitable for Teens to Adults Not sure if you have already discovered the amazing story of Ernest Shackletons epic journey to Antarctica in 1900? I rediscovered the story reading a little about Shackleton in high school. When my boys entered high school, some 10 years ago and I read “South” now Peter Fitzsimons takes us back to the Antarctica with stories of four amazing explorers from Norway, Australia, New Zealand and Britain contributing to south polar science and also touches on Japanese whalers being pursued by environmentalists today. Well worth a read, if you like history and adventure. Great to get teenagers reading.

PICK UP A BARBECUED CHICKEN ON YOUR WAY HOME AND TURN IT INTO THIS SATISFYING SALAD FOR DINNER. INGREDIENTS:

WILLOW BRIDGE DRAGONFLY 10 Sauvignon Blanc Semillon (750ml)

Geographe, Western Australia.

This blend of two popular varieties Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon - has tropical aromas of passionfruit and pineapple with herb notes.

1 barbecued chicken, meat shredded 250g cherry tomatoes, halved 300g raw cashews 1/3 cup flat-leaf parsley leaves, roughly chopped 100g feta cheese, crumbled 1/3 cup olive oil 1 lemon, juiced 200g baby spinach crusty bread, to serve

METHOD: 1. Combine chicken, tomatoes, cashews, parsley and feta in a large bowl. Season with black pepper. Toss gently to combine.

2. Combine oil, 2 tablespoons lemon juice and salt and pepper in a small bowl. Whisk until well combined.

3. Add spinach to chicken. Drizzle with dressing. Toss to combine.

Serve with bread.
