O
ctober signals the end, or at least a major slow-down, of our summer activities. The weather is generally still pleasant and Mother Nature brings on a color show we wait to see every fall. The Resurrectors Car Cub created the Fall Haul back in 2013 and it has since become an event many cruisers look forward to participating in as the season winds down. The 2020 event was curtailed slightly with fewer activities at the starting and finishing points due to Covid-19. The listed start time was 9:00AM but the early arrivals were there beginning an hour earlier. The Emerald Necklace Marina in Lakewood provided a spacious location where the cruise though Cleveland Metroparks rolled off at 10:00AM. Gearheads were catching up with their friends and acquaintances, meeting new people and checking out the fantastic rides staged at the Marina. I found many vehicles that were new to me even though I get out to more than just a few cruises and car shows each year. I’m guessing there were around 200 cars and trucks lined up in the parking lot as the twenty-five mile trek to the Meadows Picnic Area in Brecksville began. I headed out a bit early to find a suitable location to photograph the “Haulers” as they pass by. Finding a good spot was a piece of cake. There were hikers, joggers and dog walkers using the path behind me while the Fall Haul was happening in front of me. I thought that was pretty kool!

Once the cruise traffic slowed down, I headed out to enjoy the beauty of the season myself. The drive through the gentle hills and curves (though sometimes not so gentle) was certainly worth the trip up North! Along the way, I noticed multiple additional spots that would have also provided great backgrounds to shoot this event. It’s too bad I didn’t have four or five of myself to set up at those other locations. LOL! I did not make it to the 2021 event but I am definitely going to place this one on my potential schedule for 2022. You cannot go wrong by taking in the Fall Haul!

he New Castle School of Trades is no stranger to cars, trucks and all things mechanical. This was the perfect setting for a display of everything a gearhead might be interested in. The location was very inviting with paved parking for over 300 vehicles and easy access from the interstate highway system. A gorgeous, but kind of hot, day welcomed me to the Pulaski Rd. campus of NCST. The lot was already over half full and new arrivals were still coming in over two hours later as I was preparing to leave. Something for everyone is often used to describe what can be seen at a cruise and that tag was more than appropriate for this event.

McClymonds Supply & Transport brought a semi-tractor with a detailed military theme. That was the super-size of the show and it went over to a pair of high rise 4WD pickups and on down to a Chevy powered T-Bucket. Several roadsters, coupes, some customs and a nose-up ’55 Chevy Gasser piqued the interest of attendees. One of the food trailers had Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and another was selling pumpkin funnel cakes. Hey, I didn’t leave hungry! - Just sayin’ That’s all I have - Joe
Admission for spectators was free with proceeds from car registrations benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. Dash plaques, good food, DJ, door prizes, raffles, tool vendors and paved parking were some of the perks of this show. I noticed vehicles from PA, Ohio and Indiana during my walkthrough. Founded in 1945, New Castle School of Trades has provided industrial training across a wide spectrum of skilled trades for over 70 years in the state of Pennsylvania. Gone are the days when only men filled jobs within the trades industry. There has never been a better time for women to consider a career in the trades. New Castle School of Trades provides technical and hands-on training in 11 different programs. The school believes that all men and women who want to work with their hands and earn a good living have equal access to

T
he famous stars and cars of the hit Discovery Channel Street Outlaws decide to stage a Texas Style take over of historic Island Dragway located in Great Meadows, New Jersey. In between filming episodes of the very popular No Prep series of shows which were being filmed at New England and Maple Grove Dragway. Some of the stars sent out a post on social media to see if there was a track in between the two tracks where filming was being done. Well, after some hard work Melissa and Carl Milano along with the Street Outlaw racers put together a good old fashioned Wednesday Night match race. Much back in the days of funny cars and pro stocks Island Dragway opened up their gates and fans and cars came pouring in all in record numbers. Well, before the gates opened up fans started to get in line to make sure they got a chance to see all the cars and stars make runs down the Island Dragway drag strip. The Street Outlaw drivers and their cars got to have a fun relaxing time talking with fans. Fans were able to get autographs, take photos and get t-shirts of their favorite stars. On hand at Island Dragway this night was Mike Murillo of Team Texas, Scott Taylor representing Team NOLA, the one and only Birdman was behind a new ride for the evening. Cody Baker brought out his Shake and Bake operation along with Shawn Wilhoit and Adam

Jennings. While most of the Street Outlaws decided to make solo runs there were a few side by side passes. Seems like Shawn Wilhoit and his Mistress Nova put a call out on Mike Murillo and his wild Mustang which made for some very exciting side by side runs. In addition to all the great Street Outlaws runs Island Dragway had a big 500 dollar winner take all bracket invitational which attracted the best of the best to do battle. With the huge turnout and success of this Team Texas Takeover at Island Dragway plans are in the works I heard for a bigger and badder takeover next year at Island Dragway in Great Meadows, New Jersey. In addition to Team Texas Takeover at Island Dragway, the Musi family who grew up in Carteret, New Jersey made a stop in their old home town. Pat Musi who builds many motors for many of the top racers brought his daughter’s brand new car for a little display at the Carteret Performing Arts and Events Center located in their hometown of Carteret. Lizzy Musi also is one of the top lady drivers on the Street Outlaws tv show. This marked the first time in quite a while that the Musi family came back to Carteret to see all their family and friends. All of this action as the many stars of Street Outlaws made the trip from up in New England to the Keystone State to film shows which will no doubt turn up on the Discovery Channel in the fall or winter of this year. ~ John Cruisin’ Times ~ February 2022 21

Jim’s 1957 Chevy Belair Conv. Port Orange, Florida. This is my 1957 Chevy Belair Convertible that I bought 22 years ago, It did not come with the original 283 3 speed transmission, but it had a 1988 Chevy 305 engine and 4 speed transmission installed in it. After 20 years of cruising, I ended up updating the running gear in the car. I installed and rebuilt a 327 engine (1967) and a rebuilt Muncie 4-speed. I love this Chevy.

1963 Buick Skylark Convertible in red. Older restoration with new seats, carpet, top and paint. No rust and the paint shows well even with a few scrapes and nicks on the body.
