he 2021 Gasser Reunion returned to its traditional June timeline after being disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. It was a relief to be heading back toward “normal” even if we are only partially there. The 2022 event not only brings hope that we will be seeing participation and daily schedules that we were used to seeing but there is a new element in the mix this year. Thompson Raceway Park was sold to the Kuhnle Brothers late last year and the facility has been appropriately named Kuhnle Raceway Park. The new owners didn’t wait long to announce a host of improvements they would be undertaking prior to the 2022 season opener. The “quick list” includes re-leveling and re-paving the shutdown area, re-paving, widening, and straightening the return road, adding additional lighting to return road, removing guard rails in shut down area and replacing them with concrete walls on both sides and the creation of a much larger social media presence to highlight races, drivers, and events. The Kuhnle family is not a newcomer to the performance arena and posted the following to introduce themselves to the track followers, “We’re aware a lot of you may be unfamiliar with our family and company. The Kuhnle family is a huge supporter and fan of ALL motorsports. Both dirt and pavement! We can’t begin to articulate how excited we are to carry the torch! Stay tuned for updates in the spring!” This news has certainly piqued my interest and, from what I have been told, hundreds of others are feeling positive vibes. My first trips to Thompson took place back in the early ‘60s. Yes, things were quite different back then and the “Gasser Reunion” has brought back a lot of those memories.

Just walking through the pits almost makes the trip worthwhile. Some of the race cars have an authentic history attached to them and others are a remake of one that once chased down the quarter mile. The starting line provides all of the adrenaline most gearheads need. You just need to be there! Cruisin’ Times Magazine was back with the Legends tent and the poster signings that have always been extremely popular. There was a good showing of hot rods, resto-rods, customs and other muscle lined up on the show aisle next to the fence. The swap meet was smaller than normal but I still managed to pick up a few things I really “needed!” My photos will probably better describe last year’s show than I can with more words. If you have never been to this show or have been away for a long time, this year has tons of promise. The 2022 Gasser Reunion is developing into being a must-see event. The Kuhnle family has already begun working on their list of improvements and the June 4-5 weekend will be here before you realize. The track’s 2022 Schedule along with updates on the improvements are posted on their Facebook page. Better get busy with your plans! See ya there! That’s all I have - Joe

his show began as a place for Corvette owners and gearheads to come together for a day to get reacquainted with old friends meet new folks and share a passion for the automobile. The event quickly grew into a huge cruise-in that fills up a large portion of downtown Linesville, PA. Yogi Bair, his wife Jean, son Brian and the staff at Bair’s Corvettes have proudly been serving the Corvette community for over 50 years. From large and small pieces and parts all the way to full frame-off restorations, Bair’s Corvettes has become a go-to place for customers around the country. But, one Saturday in May everything changes. Cars and trucks of just about every imaginable make and model begin pulling in early in the morning to get a “preferred” parking space. The event is billed as rain or shine and that has held true in past years. The weather for the 15th Annual Corvette & Classic Car Cruise-In and Open House was pretty much perfect. Proceeds from the show benefitted the Hospice of Crawford County & Lakeland-Valley Regional Senior Community Center. There was a 50/50 raffle and a separate raffle for a custom “Corvette” quilt. That was kind of special! The Linesville Rotary was set up behind the shop to feed anyone who was hungry and a Pasta & Meatball Dinner was available over at the Senior Center. I opted for the pasta and I certainly did not head home hungry

You could find some of the Vette offerings in the shop office and one of the buildings had a piece by piece Corvette on display along with some kool hunting trophies. Another building held some of the Bair car collection including a Camaro and Chevelle plus a 1966 Corvette Convertible “Barn Find” that had sat outside for 40 years. See it just as it was found! There is plenty of open space and nearly of it is on grass. There was an excellent mix of vehicles to gaze over even if you were not into Corvettes. The 16th Annual Corvette & Classic Car Cruise-In and Open House is scheduled for 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM on May 21, 2022. If you have never been to Yogi’s show, you need to think hard about putting this one on your schedule. If you have been here before, well, you already know what to do. It all happens in Linesville, PA just north of the Pymatuning Reservoir Spillway (you know – “Where the ducks walk on the fish!”) Hey, that’s actually true! Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags Hits A Big 13 Photos and story by John McCartney

t was 13 years ago today Dino Lawrence had a great idea that idea was to celebrate the life and times of the Dover Drag Strip. This came to be when he held the very first Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags, well 13 years later the event is going as strong as ever. Dino Lawrence has found a home at Lebanon Valley Dragway located in Lebanon, New York. This location is not that far from the home that Dover Drag Strip was located in and that being Wingdale, New York. From the first time that Dover Drag Strip opened its doors in May of 1961 until it finally closed a number of years later in 1976. Over that period of time many races were run at the drag strip, so many folks had fun attended races there whether it be their first or so many more. This is perhaps why so many folks look forward to the three day running of the Millo’s New England Dry Stripping presents Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags powered by JK Motorsports. It is for three days that there are many events that fans have a chance to check out and enjoy. While there is many forms of test and tuning run over the first two days there is racing taking place in a number of club classes on Saturday. It is not uncommon for the clubs to use this weekend as a double points days since they can run two complete events one on Saturday and one on Sunday. Sunday is the biggest day of the event with the gates opening up and first things folks are treated to is a huge car show. Inside the car show hundreds and hundreds of

all sorts of cars take part. From vintage muscle cars, hot rods, rat rods, customs you name it can be found on display here. Another part of the show fans enjoy checking out is the S&W presented Drag Alley for here all sorts of vintage race cars can be found as well. There are even more vintage race cars on display along the huge vendor area. With all sorts of vendors on hand selling all sorts of cool items fans can also take a look at the display cars such as American Graffiti tribute cars and classic funny cars, pro stockers and dragster. Mixed in with the car show area is a great automotive swap meet with even more cool stuff for folks to purchase. On the drag strip on Sunday once again features great racing in a number of classes. Like the good ole days of Dover Drag Strip match race days a great field of show/feature cars are on display to entertain the fans. M&H Racemaster presented the Funny Car Showdown. For inside this race a number of nitro powered and blown alcohol funny cars lined up to do battle. Maura McGongle was awarded the Dover Reunion Backup Girl trophy for being the best back up girl of the event. If you liked the classic front motored dragsters from back in the day then you were in luck. The fine folks

from the East Coast Fuelers came out in force with a super selection of front motored smoke machines. These classic diggers lined up and laid down some great smokey burnout and super side by side racing. In addition to these dragster the East Coast Gassers had some classical gassers. For inside these group folks could find all sorts of gassers much like there was racing on the drag strip back in the days. So much cool stuff that took to the track to do battle ands look to get points towards the end of season championship. The Dover Drag Strip Nostalgia Drags is one of those events which has something for everyone, whether it be the young drag racing fan or the older fan that might have grown up and attended race back at the original Dover Drag Strip over it’s long history of running great events. This is just the kind of feel and atmosphere which Dino Lawrence works so hard all year long to produce and put together.
