FIND IT AT
Randomly Speaking Junk Mail
E
very year I am stunned by the amount of new readers that get a computer for Christmas. Once they get “up and running” they find our website and email me along with a couple of jokes from time to time. I don’t mind the jokes, it’s the other “junk mail” that bothers me. Here are a few that I got this morning.
There was an email from the “Post Office” and in the subject line it said, “Sorry we couldn’t deliver your mail”. Yeah right, I knew that was fake, when do they ever apologize for not delivering mail, and why would they email it, that’s putting a few of their employees out of work isn’t it?
Jordan wrote about how I could get “Viagra at Tremendous Savings”. Next was an email from Adbula with “Pharmacy Savings”. I noted, “…with a name like Abdula, he probably wasn’t a bonified pharmacist”, but probably an Arabian used car salesman or an Iranian Funny Car driver from the 70’s.
I got a business proposal from the “Petroleum Authority of Mongolia”. I Immediately did a “google” search on Mongolia’s natural resources and they don’t have any oil except for what they spill in the streets. These people must think I’m a push over. I received an email asking if I’d like to comment on the “Illegal Alien Issue”, I sent it back saying I liked the first movies and thought Sigourney Weaver was a good actress, but I didn’t think building a fence would keep outer space monsters from landing on US soil.
Another email said I could get my “Criminal Justice Degreein 6 months.” I saved that one just in case I’m wrong about Abdula. Danuata sent me a note on how she could help me “Lose Weight Fast”, while Burger King sent me an email called the “Burger King Quiz”, which I forwarded to Danuata. I got one saying I was a “Lucky Lottery Winner”. I knew that was a hoax because I worked with the Ohio Lottery for 17 years doing the Cash Explosion show and the only thing I ever won was a speeding ticket on the way home from the recording studio. Another email asked if I wanted to participate in a “Candy Bar Poll” and that I’d get a pack of bite size candy bars FREE just for filling out the form. I knew that was legit, ‘cause everybody knows how much I like candy, so I saved that one. There was one from Shab Shab. I don’t know what the offer was, but if an email comes with two names like that, its probably a “Scam Scam”. Angela emailed me with the subject line “Discounts on Viagra”. Is she the same Angela that had the hit TV show “Murder She Wrote”? 6 Cruisin’ Times ~ March 2021
The end of the day came. I counted 131 emails, 33 of which pertained to he magazine, 9 were Viagra related, 7 were lucky lottery winnings, and now that I think of it, I did give a couple bucks to a guy in a horse drawn wagon who promised instant winnings with the “Rolling Cash” instant win tickets. I think I got rolled more ways than one with that one! But yes, I did, (finally) get an offer from Coke who wanted me to participate in their short survey but I’m sad to say they only offered me a six pack. Right now I’m leaning towards Pepsi’s offer of a 12 pack, unless I hear from Snapple first. ...course that’s just me randomly speaking. ~ John Shapiro

Cruisin The River in Lowellville Photos and story by Joe Secka
While there are numerous cruises in the Mahoning Valley area, Cruisin’ the River sets the bar high especially among the regular weekly cruises. Don D’Onofrio keeps things organized and does a fantastic job. The Covid-19 pandemic caused many cancellations of events around the country and cruises certainly suffered that same fate. Fortunately, once the Lowellville cruises got started is was a great season finally wrapping up October 12th with a parade and trick or treat for the kids. Dave’s Ford T-Bird, Edinburg, PA.
Lowellville has steep hills, railroad tracks, frequent trains passing by, a few bridges and one more important thing. The entire community gets behind “Cruisin’ The River” on Monday nights. The setting is about as good as it gets with plenty of parking having 120 plus paved spaces plus spacious grass parking. There are great backgrounds for photo ops plus music by Rick Mayti or DJ Crazy Dave. Local restaurants provide ribs and other food and drinks. Oh, and Lowellville has one more thing; the fireworks during the Mt Carmel Festival in October are a “sound” to be heard as the noise bounces back and forth in the valley. Viva la “BOOOOOOOOM!” If I keep preaching about this cruise, eventually it will no longer be a “best kept secret!” Believe me; if you have never been Cruisin’ the River in Lowellville, you need to get on top of things next year. See ya’ there! That’s all I have - Joe

Thunder in the Park Car Show a Giant Success Photos and words by John McCartney
O
ne thing you can always count on is that the car community will always come out to lend their support to a worthy cause and charity. Recently the worlds of the racing community and hot rod culture showed up in force to take part in the First Annual Thunder in the Park an event that helped raise money for the Right2Breathe a charity which was co-founded by NHRA Top Fuel driver Joe Morrison. Thunder in the Park was a show put together and held in the parking lot of the Somerset Patriots a semi-professional baseball team located in Bridgewater, New Jersey. In less than thirty days the entire event was put together in a very successful way. In these days of the various Covid-19 restrictions the show filled up very quickly with the max capacity of 500 onsite guests at TD Bank Ballpark. The Thunder in the Park event was managed and organized by Al Liebmann and hosted by the Somerset Patriots. The event served as the non-profits end of the summer fundraiser, which featured a huge selection of Nostalgia and modern day dragsters, funny cars, and altered firing up their engines to entertain attendees. Folks were treated to all the cars firing up twice during the event much to everyone’s delight. This was a truly a real sight and sound which is rarely seen in one place at one time. Racers and car lovers made the trip to the event from near and far some from Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Georgia and Pennsylvania. All of this along with multiple muscle cars, street rods, and customs all taking part in the event.

Many of the local car clubs came out to lend their support to this the very First Thunder in the Park. Some of which included the Dead Man’s Curve Car Club, Drag Strip Zombies and the Galloping Hill Cruisers just to name a few. In fact Dead Man’s Curve very own Jim Fun-Zul donated his dj services to the event and played music all during the event to keep everyone entertained. There were several vendors on hand with all sorts of items for sell. Right2Breathe had a huge display were folks could learn more about them and the various diseases that they will use the money raised at the event. During the run of the show various prizes were given away too many of those that attended. Noted artist Art Schilling who owns East Coast Artie’s Pin-striping flew up for the event and took time to run a very special auction of all sorts of one of kind pieces to even raise more money for Right2Breathe. All of the funds raised during the event were donated to Morrison’s non-profit organization, Right2Breathe and their expanding Patient Support group. Right2Breathe is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides education and resources to people living with COPD, Asthma, IPF and other respiratory diseases across the globe. Additionally, they raise awareness and provide free lung health screenings at events hosted across the United States. As of the close of event, more than $10,000 was raised for Right2Breathe. Along with the many fans and car owners there were many great companies that lent their support to Thunder in The Park. Some of these included Lucas Oil, Tub-O-Scrub, POR 15, Racing Junk, S&W Race Cars, Summit Racing, and Novartis. With such a great response to the very first Thunder in the Park all involved are already looking forward to the next edition. Everyone at the Somerset Patriots could not have been happier with the turnout and the way everyone came out and behaved and cohered to all the various Covid-19 restrictions which are presently in place. Joe Morrison and Al Liebmann and everyone at Right2Breathe look forward to the next edition of Thunder in the Park. The next edition will no doubt be bigger, better, and raise more money and awareness to anyone that is affected by these diseases. ~ John

his was the 13th Annual Fall Rod Run in Cherokee, North Carolina. They had a great variety of vendors in addition to hot rods of all kinds. Add in some outstanding weather plus the setting of North Carolina’s stunning mountains in the background and you have one fantastic car show! The folks were the best! This was definitely worth the drive from Cleveland (Ohio). Thanks to everyone we met for the kind reception and conversation. (And thanks too for directions to the awesome “Tail of the Dragon’!!!) One of the most exciting additions to our trip was driving the “Tail of the Dragon’ at Deals Gap! With 318 curves in 11 miles, this is America’s number one motorcycle and sports car road. Designated US 129, the road is bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest with no intersecting roads or driveways to hamper your travel. It is considered ‘the destination’ for thousands of cycle and sports car fans throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Think you can you brave it? It’s best to be cautious as the turns are tight, but the ‘Tail of the Dragon’ is guaranteed to be the ride of your life! We did it in a pickup truck! Check out the whole gallery on my website at: dustmanart.smugmug. com/2012CarShowsandCruises/Cheokee-Rod-Run-in-Cherokee-NC/. Enjoy! And thanks!

Detailing
Wash & Wax I was recently asked what the best car wash and best wax is to use and with that, came several questions. First and foremost I wanted to know what kind of vehicle it was, how often they currently wash it and how often they wax it. In this specific case this person washes and waxes their vehicle all the time and with that, my answer was, pretty much anything you want. For those of us that rarely wash and wax our vehicles, there is a lot more “prepping” involved when doing so. For instance, when you rarely wash your vehicle, break dust builds up which makes your tires and rims look dull and grimy, there often times is a lot more bug and tar build up and for that matter, the paint is a lot dirtier which requires a lot more work. If you rarely do it, a good option is taking it to a professional and then maintaining it from there. For those of us who wash and wax all the time, it really doesn’t matter what you use because you’re doing a lot more “maintaining” and it really doesn’t matter what kind of car wash you use or how much wax and/or silicone is in your wax type product. During the winter months its often more difficult to do it yourself with it being so cold, however, I love taking my vehicle to the do-ityourself car wash where in just 10 minutes or so I can get my vehicle
nice and shiny with a quick car wash. No need to go with the presoak, I recommend going straight to the high pressure soap. If you use wheel cleaner, spray your wheels down first, then hit them with your wheel cleaner of choice, then soap down your vehicle. Then take a brush or cloth, wipe out your rims, take a fresh towel or wash mitt and wipe down your wet soapy vehicle then go straight to the wax rinse and spray it down. The wax rinse helps the water bead off the vehicle and makes it easier to dry. At this point you’ll want to whisk off the bulk of the water with a drying blade of some sort and finish it off with a quick wiping using a couple microfiber cloths which I feel are a lot better than using a chamois. There are a lot of great products out there, however, by using a little bit of elbow grease from time to time, it really doesn’t matter what you use. This spring I will highlight the products I feel are the best for general maintaining and deep cleaning.

David Chandler trusted us with his 1936 Auburn boat tail speedster for a complete restoration. When he bought it, the car was a complete mess. We disassembled it, stripped completely down, and Dave left the color choices up to us and now she is a beautiful machine. What a head turner it is too. This baby will draw attention. Thanks Dave

he Fourth of July has been a great day for car cruises in recent years. While all of the patriotic reasons area an incentive to schedule a show, the recent Covid-19 have been a constant deterrent and has caused numerous events to be cancelled or, at least, postponed. The city of Westlake decided to move forward with their 31st Annual Charity Classic Car Show at Clague Park. It was a hot and sunny day as vehicles arrived. There was judging and trophies for entries 1900-1980. Dash plaques were handed out to the first 150 arrivals. A huge grassy spaced the vehicles with plenty of room to roam around and view. Music, a Martial Arts Demonstration, picnic areas, family activities and games were also offered for those in attendance. The charities sharing proceeds included the St Baldrick’s Foundation for Pediatric Care and the Westlake Community Center. Keep this show in mind for your 2020 schedule of cruising! That’s all I have - Joe
