I
got a call the other day from a long time subscriber who said they were retiring and moving to Florida. Boy, I thought, how nice. Move to the sunshine state and Cruise all year long. That’s what retiring is all about. Then I got to thinking. Wouldn’t it be a great to buy some land down in Florida and start a retirement home for old car hobbyists? Here’s what we’ve got so far. It’ll be called “Shady Wheels Estates.” Roughly speaking, it’s a 50,000 acres of land close to Moroso Park(the local NHRA drag strip). It’s within walking distance to shopping malls and sits right up against 1-95, for easy access to the north. There will be 10,000 condominiums built of the usual 1 & 2 bedroom variety, all will have 6 car attached garages per condo and each one has one 4 post lift. Amenities will include the usual pools and saunas. There are no tennis courts because “car guys” do not play tennis, so the courts will be converted to “burn out pits” by simply removing the nets. We are purchasing a nearby junk yard which was sold 9 years ago because they weren’t EPA compliant. Even though all the buildings, cars and parts have been removed or destroyed, the local real estate agents have not been able to sell the land because of all the gas and oil spillage. But never fear, we’ve figured out a way to keep the EPA off our back and utilize the space in a more efficient manner. We are planning on transforming it into a small cemetery - called “Cruisin’ Acres”. That way when a gearhead passes on, their loved ones will know they’re always close to the smell of something automotive. In fact our motto is: “At Cruisin’ Acres You’re Never Far from the Smell of a Car”. We will hold Cruise-ins at the Med station, both stock and modified wheel chairs will be allowed. ProStreet wheel chairs must have wheelie bars, because there’s nothing worse than a wheel chair blow-over.

Trophies for the person who can pronounce Edelbrock three times in a row. We’ll also have a couple of awards for furthest traveled without having to stop for a bathroom. Naturally we’ve made provisions for special nap stations, they will be located under the trees in case you get tired. For the women, we’ve got all sorts of cool things: A crafts building which will be renamed “Women’s World”, and you can sell all your privately made crafts items so you can have some extra income. We’ll have a centrally located air conditioned building for holding weekly garage sales with TVs so you won’t miss your TV favorite shows. Across from “Shady Wheels Estates” is a gigantic grocery store with a tunnel that goes under the road and up into our retirement condos. Ladies, I think you’ll agree, it’s so much safer than trying to cross the road, besides it’ll give us a chance to rekindle our romance, by learning to shop together. Now just a minute guys, on the way back, we will be holding a special grocery cart drag races down the tunnel ramp and up the other side. Weekly prizes include a years supply of “Ex-lax” or a years supply of “Depends” (which ever is needed first) and a direct dial cell phone to the offspring of your choosing, just so you can pester them at an odd hour. I think you’ll find “Shady Wheels Estates” will have everything to make your retirement years the best years of your life. We will need a deposit of $15,000 to hold your condo, the first 300 to pre-register will get special commemorative dash plaques and if you act right now, we’ll throw in a FREE pair of white shoes and white belt with our logo on the side, just so we’ll fit right in with the other retired Floridians. ...course that’s just me Randomly Speaking. ~ John Shapiro

ack in the glory days of drag racing and the hot rod culture one thing was for sure, the drag strip was the place to be. Whether it was a Saturday or Sunday night you could always find all the cool cars and clubs at the local strip. It seemed everyone got a chance to hang out, talk cars, see who had the best looking or fastest ride. It was a happening place to be and the place to be seen. The pits were packed and the stands were filled and the racing seemed to go on forever. Well the Digs at E-Town is bringing that old school feel back. The Digs at E-Town is held at the Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ throughout the racing season. The 1/8th mile drag strip is one of the very few that has two complete drag strips that can be run at the very same time! Gassers, Hot Rods, Customs, Straight Axles,

Street Freaks, Vintage Race Cars, Muscle Cars 1979 and older can all be found taking part at hese events. At the event fans can take in all sorts of cool music in the form of Rockabilly of Rob-A-Lou, Black Cats NYC and Fast Claire. At the Digs at E-Town Super Surfing Blastoff there were all types of cars racing during the day. East Coast Gassers, Backseat Drivers were just a few cars taking to the drag strip to see who had the baddest of the bad. Scott Hasko got the win in the Ida Automotive Gasser Shootout.

In the Hodi Automotive Hot Rod class Robert Brodowski got the win in his cool Vega. Over in the Muscle Eliminator John Sawicki enjoyed winning the class with his family there to help celebrate his win behind the wheel of his 72 Charger. However the Digs at E-Town is all about having fun racing your buddy and see who had the quickest car and have bragging rights until the next Digs event. Digs at E-Town are held in the months of July, August and October all on Sundays so both unmuffled and muffled cars are welcome to take part. Next Event: Oct 29 - Gates 9am4pm. here’s a place on the East Side called Mentor on the Lake. That pretty much says it all. It’s inside of Mentor and it’s on Lake Erie. There’s a small park at the end of Andrews Road (AKA Lake Shore Blvd.) called Mentor Beach Park and this is where, once a year, there’s a little cruise that’s growing bigger each year of it’s exsistence. This years’ show claims to be the second year, so I’ll say that (I do remember a similar cruise called Mentor Beach Park Cruise in 2013 on Labor Day). This years’ show was held on a questionable weather day (Labor Day weekend) that threatened spotty showers and (in the end) delivered! Dispite those dire predictions, response was awesome!!! Over 160+ cars of all varieties showed up beginning at 10am and more were coming in at the time I left (due to pending rain) at 2pm! Cars came from all over. We had a great time with equally great people and cars. Keep your eyes opened for info on this show next year!!! Summit Racing MAX-efi 500 Fuel Injection System Now Available! ®
I
f you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on electronic fuel injection, your wait is over. Summit Racing’s MAX-efi 500 Fuel Injection System makes converting from a carburetor to EFI virtually a no-brainer. The MAX-efi 500 features a four-injector aluminum throttle body that bolts to most four-barrel carburetor intake manifolds, and uses the factorystyle throttle linkage. The throttle body has integral fuel rails and also houses the Temperature Manifold Absolute Pressure (TMAP), intake air temperature and throttle position sensors, and the idle air control motor. That makes the wiring harness more compact and easier to install. The only other sensors are coolant temperature and exhaust oxygen. If a sensor fails, replacements are available at most auto parts stores. Tuning the MAX-efi 500 is a snap, too. The selftuning ECU continually adjusts fuel delivery to provide the optimum air/fuel ratio under all climate and altitude conditions, and has a selfadjusting “limp home” mode to protect your engine if a sensor fails. You even get a datalogging feature to track system performance under operating conditions. The Summit Racing MAX-efi 500 Fuel Injection System requires a return-style fuel system with a pressure regulator; an electric fuel pump that flows at least 60 PSI; and two fuel filters—a 100 micron filter between the tank and the pump, and a 10 or 40 micron filter between the pump and the throttle body. A Quick Tip to Enhance Your Detail Game
S
o, are you waxed out or what? How many coats of wax did you put on this season? How many times did you chamois off your vehicle or dust it down? If you are like me, I’ll bet quite a bit, which brings me to the topic for this month’s article. Starting Over From Scratch. The paint on your vehicle is just like the skin on your body. It has pores which are minute openings in a surface. These “pores”, just like your skin can get dirty, which can lead to the drying out of the surface and they both can be over waxed (Lotioned) if re-application is too often. I know that a lot of you waxed your vehicle a lot this summer and many of you have probably noticed that the shine you once had, is now oily and smears when you wipe it. This happens when you continuously add “shine boosters” to the paint. These products are things like wax, glaze, polish and “quick detailer” type products. What happens is that the pores of the paint get filled up and then there is nowhere for the new wax to go, so it stays on the surface and ends up smearing when you wipe it, versus coming right off and leaving that streak free shine you’re accustom too. One thing that I highly recommend doing at least once a year is a thorough cleaning of your paint, stripping the “old” wax off and out of the pores of the paint, so new and fresh wax can do its job and make that vehicle shine. When I say “wax”, I really mean any sort of shine enhancer product, whether it is a wax, glaze, polish or “quick detailer” like mentioned above.
In order to strip down your paint, I recommend using a combination of dishwashing liquid for the car wash soap and a degreaser, which you have to be very careful using. The general rule of thumb is that dishwashing liquid is not pH balanced and in this case, that is a good thing. Dish washing liquid is widely known for stripping wax and that’s exactly what we are trying to do here. While using the dishwashing liquid to soap down your vehicle and by working only one section at a time, spray a couple sprays of degreaser on the paint. You have to make sure you keep the surface wet, or you will run the risk of leaving run lines in your paint. If you think this method is too aggressive for your liking, you can wash the surfaces a few times with just dishwashing liquid and water. Once this has been done, you are now ready to start building back up the pores of the paint with several more coats of whatever you like. The one thing to remember is that once you have stripped it down, you will need to wax it a couple times to build it back up before it’s ready to turn heads and potentially win you that trophy you may be looking for!

1981 Camaro 350 - Berlinetta The Berlinetta was a 6cylinder vehicle, but the 350 engine and automatic transmission were placed in after. New auto-choke Edelbrock 650 cfm.
