Randomly Speaking Tips on selling your vehicle We help a lot of people every year sell their cars so we jotted down a couple of tips to help you the next time you’re in the process of selling a vehicle. Taking Pictures: Pictures are the most important of the process. If you don’t have a camera or a smart phone, buy one of the ‘throw away’ versions available at all drug stores and use up all the shots. Try taking a 3/4 view or side shot of the vehicle, giving the perspective buyer a chance to see your cars best features. The most optimum time to shoot is at noon if you are new to the game, otherwise position the car so the sun is behind you and the background is not cluttered with objects and shadows. Remember, you are not selling the scenery, just the car. Always frame your car using all of the camera. As you look through the view finder, ask yourself “does the car almost touch each corner of the frame.” If not, walk closer until it does. Take lots of photos including the front, full side, 3/4 front, rear, interior and engine bay. You’ll use them when someone from out of town is interested in the vehicle. If you aren’t computer savy, ask a friend, or a family member that can help you get the pictures to us/prospective buyer.
Fishing: An old method of pricing “High” to see if there are any uninformed takers. It only works with regular cars in regular newspapers where the readers are generally “uninformed” about car prices. Readers of automotive magazines are usually very knowledgeable about the ‘going price’. Your just wasting your time and advertising a car for $12k when the average price is 6k and everybody knows it. Best time of year: It used to be the fall, when people lost their storage and needed to get rid of their rides. But due to the huge increase in the hobby, and the invent of classified directories/websites, people are buying cars at all times of the year. If you’re in the market for a project car, then buying one in the Fall makes sense, since you can do all the work during the winter moths. The spring also makes sense too, if you’re just looking for a ‘done’ car to cruise in all summer. Basically, if you find the car that’s right for you, then you’ll buy it regardless of what time of the year it is. The same holds true for car parts - you need them when you need them and not according to the time of year. Where to advertise: As you’ve probably noticed by the number of SOLD markers on our ads, lots of people have gotten great results advertising in the Magazine and Website. That’s not to say you shouldn’t use other publications (ie. GoodGuys, AutoRoundUp, etc.) all are excellent and should be considered. There is an old saying “Throw enough mud against the wall and some of it is bound to stick”.
Pricing: How do you know if you’ve overpriced or under-priced it? Research. Just because you see a similar car advertised in national publications for $29,000, doesn’t mean its selling for exactly that. Lots of people do that simply for the ego gratification, with no intention of selling the car, they just want everyone to know they’ve got a lot of money tied up in it. There are two methods to truly finding out what your car is worth. 1. Call a car appraisal expert. The money is well spent. They will come out to your house and write an official appraisal report. (2) Research. Don’t just come up with a number and ask your friends if they agree, they will almost always agree - because they don’t want to ruin a friendship. No one likes to be told their car isn’t worth what they are asking. Spend a little time online or at the book store. Check out Hemmings and one of the many “Car Price Guides” and online websites directories. Find a car that is close to yours and combining the two or three sources. Throw out the highest and lowest selling price and you will find the average price you should expect to get. 6 Cruisin’ Times ~ September 2019

The Portage County Airport in Ravenna, OH was the site for the Dropt n Destroyed 16 car/truck show over the May 25-26 weekend. Aaron Combs and the Dropt Out crew organized this event. Their first show was back in 2004 at a local wing restaurant and they have changed locations as the attendance increased. Quaker Steak & Lube, MAPS Air Museum and the Mansfield Reformatory were event locations before the move to the airport this year. The “Dropt Out” name was derived from the style of their vehicles and “drop and destroy” was a popular phrase back then. Thus the name was created and that’s the history lesson for today! Their unique class and best of show awards along with a limbo contest for the vehicles have attracted participants from all directions as far away as Canada, Delaware, Alabama and Missouri! The sun was blaring down on everyone and the temps soared but there was a large showing of vehicles. Most of the rides were pickups but there was a mix of cars and bikes as well.

I was impressed with the excellent design and craftsmanship in the chassis and suspensions that was used to get the trucks “down low!” The paint and interior matched those efforts. This set of images display the excellent design and workmanship from the “down low” portion of the gearhead community. The 25th Annual Cruise to the Jersey Shore proved to be the perfect way to spend Father’s Day along the ocean in Long Branch, New Jersey. With the beautiful Atlantic Ocean as the picture perfect backdrop, folks came out with all of their cars to fill every square inch of the boardwalk and all the surrounding areas. The show opened to all Hot Rods, customs, classics, race cars, antiques, muscle cars both modern and classic proved to be just the right mix. With a super great weather day allowed for all of these cars to come out in record numbers. A nice cool breeze and bright sunny skies were just the right mix for all the folks that came out to check and enjoy a relaxing day along the Jersey Shore checking all the cars. From exotic high hand sports cars to one of a kind specialty cars there was really something for everyone to enjoy. All of those that brought out their cars got a very special dash plaque and had the chance to take home a great trophy as well. Noted Father and Son Auto Designer-Builders Rob and Bob Ida of Ida Automotive were the special quests and took time to answer questions and talk to folks about some of the very cool cars that they have built over the years in their shop. filling the Jersey Shore air in the form of two great bands “Who Are You Guys” and “Paglia”. Along with these two super bands a DJ was spinning all sorts of great tunes along the boardwalk. All proceeds from the show were donated to and help benefit the Ronald McDonald House of Long Branch and New Brunswick. Along with all the great cars folks could get some great food at the many food spots along the boardwalk. Great shoppes could be found near by at the adjacent Pier Village. All in all a great way to spend a day in the great sea air of the Atlantic Ocean and the Jersey Shore. ~ John

harlotte’s Ice Cream Stand on Lost Nation Road in Willoughby enjoyed a brief and rather localized popularity cruise between 2009 through 2011. When Char (and her husband Jim) opened their ice cream shop, they were looking for ways to increase the popularity of their shop in an area that didn’t have anything close by for competition. I stopped by one afternoon and after testing some ice cream and talking with her, she decided a car cruise might be a good way to begin. Since there were very few cruises going on in the area on Tuesdays, the decision was made. Tuesday was going to be the day! The idea was simple, give the cruisers a place to meet (with good food and ice cream of course) and they will come! In the beginning, it took a couple of weeks, but as time passed, the cars began to show up and their business increased too! They still have the best soft serve ice cream in the area! Of course, they have other items available if you’re ready for some quick hot food! Sadly, after three years, circumstances led them to cease the cruises, but they are still open with the same excellent food and delicious ice cream!

John Macar’s ‘63 Plymouth Brunswick, OH Here is my 1963 Plymouth Sport Fury. When l bought the car in 2016 it was strictly a drag car but l decided the car was to nice to only drag race! I stripped the car of all decals and painted the car the original Ruby Red single stage paint. I made some improvements to the interior and rebuilt the top half of the motor.
