GCSE Graphic Products Promotional Band Publicity

Design Brief: A group of students in your school have formed a band and want a complete set of publicity material for their future events. The set must include a CD Case which has a minimum of four folding panels containing any number of CD‟s and relevant information. The panels can fold in any direction and could hold a combination of CDs. Promotional material should also contain an item which incorporates a smart or modern material.

Customer Profile: 1.) The type of person that would listen to my band wouldn’t have to know everything about music, they would just have to enjoy it 2.)The age range would be 13-20 because most older people I know wouldn’t like this music as they are into an older generation of music 3.)The customers are more likely to be male but there is some females that would like the music 4.)I think that the people who would listen to the music will be all around the world, from Alaska to Japan and from Chile to Sydney 5.)I don't think that there is a specific occupation for any potential customers but they would have to be involved in something to do with the genre of music I chose 6.)I'm not to sure what the general likes/dislike but I suspect that they would like going to concerts and enjoying the music. 7.)the customer would want a CD with a good design and theme because if they don't match then it want look professional and could end up drawing people away from the product 8.)it will stand out from all the others it will have a neat finish to the packaging and I will a make sure that it has a unique design. On the other hand I will make sure the price is suitable for the buyers otherwise this could jeopardise the amount of people wanting the product 9.)My product is going to be relaying on the quality and not the quantity because I think if there’s to much on and in the CD and its packaging it will just look unprofessional 10.)the music, album and the merchandise 11.)advertisement in shops, social conversations and on the internet, for example facebook, twitter and YouTube. Posters and flyers as well. 12.)the pricing is reasonable and everyone can afford to buy it 13.)contact numbers on flyers, posters, on the CD packaging and band website

Target Market Hi, I'm Paul, I'm 14, I love listening to drum and bass, however my favourite band/artist is rusko. Personally I like any colours as long as it isn't to feminine. I also think that the drum and bass industry needs something new, this would be awesome.

I have understood this page because I now know what to think about in the time I create and produce my product. This has shown me what this generation of people and what they are into. This will help be decide what my design will be like

What: The reason I'm making this product is to advertise my band and hold the CD. My finished product. I will make sure my product has used the correct colour combinations to make it look professional and aesthetically pleasing. To design this I will have to make sure that I know what music is in the charts at the minute and search though a range of music industries for example iTunes, TV and the radio, also make sure that its is not affective to any one or any thing and that it uses non toxic materials, and no rough edges.

How My product will have to fit in with my theme and also what music people are into now but also make it individual and unique.

Who The age range is from 10-20 years old. This is entirely influenced by my choice of music and what I think people of my age would enjoy.

I have learnt what is needed to make my product successful. The information will use is what the key areas Like tickets, point of sale stands, logo, posters and leaflets.

A-Aesthetics: the CD look professional, there are 3 CD‟s in total and they all have a very similar design except that they are all different colours, The CD holders have a glossy finish were as the CD and the packaging has a matt finish. On the CD and cover the font is all pushed to the left which give a better effect than if it was all in the middle. The logo is in the shape of the queens orb whilst around it says the ministry of sound

C-Client: the target audience age is around 14-22 as it has got quite a lot of loud party music which I don't think older people will like

C-Cost: it cost £13.00 which I think is a reasonable price considering you get 3 CD‟s which is equivalent to £4.33p per CD, and the average is £7.99-£10.99. I think that is a very good cost as it is only £2.01p

E-Environment: it is quite eco-friendly as the card and the plastic can both be recycled or reused

E-Ergonomics: It is not the most eye-catching product but it is individual to the make (ministry of sound). The CD‟s themselves don't have a shine to it which makes it look professional for the buyer so they will be impressed. Also it has an easy to use packaging as the 3 CD‟s all fit nicely, and finally it is just an ordinary CD holder

S-Safety: we make sure the CD will not get scratched or broken as well

F-Function: the function of the CD and packaging is to hold a CD

as safety towards people so the packaging doesn't give anyone injuries

M- Material: the CD itself is made of plastic and so is the

S- Size: the size matters because if it is to big and you want to put it in

section where the CD is held in place. The pack that holds the CD‟s and there holders is made from card.

your car then you cant. The CD is 125mm in height, 140mm in width and 20mm in depth

From this page I learnt the key features I could/can include in my Finished 3D piece. The information I have learnt is how other brand have presented there product and how I could link there ideas into my final piece

A-Aesthetics: The poster is full of colour and has a lot of information, it has the sponsorship at the bottom in the centre it has all the artists playing and at the top it has the name of the festival and the dates of when it is taking place

C-Client: This poster will appeal to both the younger generation and the older generation. It will also interest people who like to camp out in a field with everyone around you

C-Cost: To make this poster would probably cost under one pound but to advertise on the side of a building it would cost thousands to hundreds of thousands but they would pay millions as well because that is the only way people will notice them

E-Environment: It is isn't completely recyclable because it is either laminated or on the other hand it might just have a waterproof back and front

E-Ergonomics: it is very easy to use as you just need to read it but some of the text is quite small and difficult to read. The text colour is also quite difficult to read

S-Safety: there is no major safety problems only that you might get a paper cut. It only made of paper so there is no harmful materials will be used

S-Size: It comes in a range of different sizes so that it can go pretty much anywhere, this helps the event become more know and is a good selling point for the festival

F-Function: The poster was made to tell people who are interested in the festival which artists are playing and when it is taking place

M-Material: The poster is made of paper/card. The materials need be withstand certain weather conditions I have learnt what needs to go on my poster and think about Size, Safety and The rest of access fm. The information I will need to use is what my clients are looking for and how I can demonstrate this in my product

The barcode is placed on the side because it isn't important at all and is only used to purchase the product.

This tab is for easy accesses to the product and has a small hinge so it can fold back to open a forward to close.

This is blank because itâ€&#x;s inside the package and it would be a waste of ink and money to even bother putting something inside.

This tab is where the box is held together by a small but strong line of glue.

When to product is fully put together the logo is on the top and three sides this is the name of the product and it stands out which makes people want to buy it because they will remember the name.

This has all the nutritional values on and additional information There is no paint on here because this is where the glue is put and covered over which would be a waste of money and ink.

From this page I have learnt Where thing like the barcode and the nutritional value need to be and why it important to place them there

From this page I have learnt what key information needs to go on my product. Also I have learnt what colours I could use. I could also think about having wristbands or something else to make my product look unique and eye catching

From this page I have learnt what I can and need to include in my logo design and has given me a lot of ideas. I will need to use a logo relevant to my ideas and I have a lot of choices from my mood board

Rating

Ethical- I need to make sure that my product wont offend any religions, also any words that could be insulting to anyone. My mood board has no ethical issues at all besides that it more to males, I will make sure my product is successful by making sure that it doesn't affect and one or anything.

Sustainability-we are trying to save resources so we have them in future years instead of being in large demand. To make sure that we don't run out we could plant 3 trees for ever 1 we take, also use renewable materials.

Fair-Trade-Fair trade is an organised movement aimed to help third world counties to promote better trading and sustainability. there are numerous amounts of fair trade products including chocolate and coffee. All money used and raised by fair trade is used to help people in Africa.

Carbon Footprint- This is caused by the everyday things we do to increase the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. If the amount is kept low it is better. I will make sure I don‟t leave a carbon footprint whilst making my work. I'm not going to buy products from around the world, I will be making it as locally available as possible

Green Design- the is used to eliminate negative environmental impacts. Recycle-Recycling is a process using waste material and turning it into new products to prevent the disposal of useful products and so that they can be melted down and hopefully reused. I will try and use recycled material to make my product as it will give me the same quality as normal no recycled materials.

Copyright- is a label on a product legalising it and making sure that only you can legally use the name of the brand. This literally means they don't have the “rights to copy” the name. Hence the title Copyright. I will be putting a copyright symbol on my work which will make my work look realistic and authentic. Environmental- This is where you use materials that aren‟t going to harm the environments, being the trees we use the animals and there habitats being destroyed. So we use materials that can be used and that aren't in short demand.

Waste- waste meaning rubbish, trash, refuse, garbage, junk that all gets thrown away and is just unwanted material that cant be used. Also I will try and cut my products flush with the edge of the page in order to save more card/pare which I could use for something else.

I have learnt what I need to include in my piece to make sure it isn't going to offend anyone. Also I will need to make sure that it doesn't offend any religion and I will need to show this in my product.

This logo was difficult to make and personally I donâ€&#x;t think it looks great, but I could do quite a bit to adapt it to look how I want, but this would take to much time and I donâ€&#x;t have time to waste on something I know I could only make a bit better.

This logo was really enjoyable and difficult to make, I do like it and would consider using it in my work, however there isn't very much I can do with the logo and it is just a bit to basic for my needs.

This is my second favourite design out of them all due to its complexity, I feel it shows my skill of Photoshop, also I how adaptable as show on the next page.

This Is the logo I liked the most as it was such a challenge to make but looks great, I used the burn tool to give a burnt effect on the corners. This gives a real 3D look and I will be using this in my final piece

This idea was just very basic and I made it just to show how I could make a logo using existing logos, I donâ€&#x;t really like it and probably wont use it in my work

I really enjoyed making this logo and playing around with what I could make from it, the logo again is very basic, however it is what I was intending to make and I will consider using this in my make.

1.) I found the inspiration for this logo from the shapes and colours on my mood board, and I like it because I have used a combination of the original and used Photoshop to put them together, also I made sure that the colour s didnâ€&#x;t clash and they didnâ€&#x;t which gave it an amazing look.

2.) This logo was my favourite ideas on this page because the colour red, cream and blue a compliment each other very well however I also used the burn tool on Photoshop which really makes the design more aesthetically pleasing.

3.) I like this logo but not as much as the others a it is basic and only uses one outstanding colours, which is red but this is why I like it because it is simple and unique compared to all the others. I also used the burn tool on this to give it a warm feel.

4.) My inspiration for this logo came from an image of a shield and incorporated these colours into it which is meant to give a day to night look, this is shown as on the left it is shaded meaning and on the right is light representing a new day. The logo is unique as I have used the same logo and layered them.

5.) I got the inspiration for this logo from the movie the avengers, from the character Hulk, and this is where the colours green and purple cam from. This was also my original development of the logo and gives a unique look due to the colour scheme.

6.) The inspiration behind this idea come from a pineapple as it has a the colours being yellow brown and green, but I also used the burn tool on this idea and my intentions were to make it a cooked pineapple.

7.) This idea was the first of these six and I tried to keep a similar colour scheme to a pervious design which I personally think paid of as the colour work together and I think its so simple that its one of my favourite designs which I think will fit in really well on the front of my CD.

8.) This logo was a challenge to make as not all of the shapes lined up but when I finished I was very impressed and the colours I chose represent the bottom of the see from the water to the seaweed and how the seaweed sways from side to side on the ocean floor.

9.) This logo represents a glazing fire which has spun out of control which is why there is a spinning effect and the fire is shown through to colours red, yellow and orange and also a burnt effect as the after marks of a fire is that thing burn down and there is a lot of destruction caused.

10.) I created this logo by cutting the original shape and then put them altogether to make a wheel like logo and it is the most unique and difficult of all of my logos. I like this logo because I have clearly shown my skill through Photoshop in this design which I'm proud of.

11.) My thoughts towards this design are positive as I tried to make it represent a similar structure as an atom, I like it because it has a simple yet affective colour scheme and it has a very eyecatching look to it which would stand out on my finished piece.

12.) In this design I took the inspiration from what I imagined a black hole to be like and I have to say I donâ€&#x;t really like this idea as it is to simple and I donâ€&#x;t like the colours I've used as they just look boring and non imaginative.

13.) This logo uses a similar colour scheme to some of the other logos, which is good but limits me to how unique I can make, also the design is the same as the original. If I was giving this a personal rating it would be a 5 out of 10.

14.) This is my favourite design on this page as it creative, unique and skilful. This was one of my most complex designs and it one of my favourites and would look great on my final product.

15,) The skill and quality of this logo is great and really tested my knowledge on Photoshop which is good as it challenged me and the finished logo looks great. The only thing negative about this logo is the colours as there to dark and boring.

16.) This logo took the theme of roman Britain through the colours and ancient Greece with the pillars on either side which I think look eyecatching, however the colours are almost the same as the original.

17.) I donâ€&#x;t 18.)The really like this background design as the behind this colours I chose design was are very similar taken from the and the logo discovery history channel and the itself is far to simple, combination of however I did red and gold try to keep the really works design similar together, it gives to the original it a royal feel and that and I like that as worked but it stands out altogether this from the rest as I used bright logo disappointed colours. me. I really like this page because it shows me Cameron knows how to create an effective logo

This page gave me a clear image on what others think of my work and helped me to know the areas I needed to develop

Looking at this table it gives me a clear understanding on which of my logos are the best and also which ones I will use in my finished product, some of them clearly stand out for example idea 15 had the highest total score but in my opinion it doesn't have the best overall look, colour choice or professional look, however it is complex and well designed and very easy to understand, personally I think that the overall favourite has to be either idea 4 as the colours, complexity of the logo, the overall appearance and its professional look all work together really well and have made this logo worth thinking and how it would look on my finished product.

The essential aspects of the ticket is that it has the price clearly on the front, a barcode to authenticate the ticket when you go to a concert and they will scan it and you can enter. Each ticket will usually have the venue (will change) and also the band name, the name of the tour and also on most tickets were you are sitting or standing in the concert.

The front of the CD package is very basic and will usually only state the band name and album, although this front cover is just an picture of something generally the image links in with the titles of the songs and just gives you a brief understanding of what the album may be about

From this poster we can gain information about the concerts for example dates, times, locations and the tour name which will really be more of the getting people to come to the concert part of the instead of buying the CDâ€&#x;s however its role is just as important

The back cover of the CD is what people will pretty much first look at as it holds the most information about the CD giving you the title names of each song on the CD, also contains additional details for example the barcode for when the produced is be purchased, however its main purpose it to inform people of what songs you may find on the CD and this is generally what people will look for when buying a CD, whether they like the songs or not.

This page has made me gain an understanding of what I need to include in my poster, ticket, also the front and back of my CD and I have learnt each detail that will need to be included so this should improve the quality of my work

This is my original logo idea and also the starting point for all of my logos. It is the basic four fold package however i simple added a neat triangular shaped cut out at the top which will provide me with a sort of cover piece for the front of my product and will be held in with a smart material which i would purchase and that is a magnet. I didn‟t really have any inspiration for this idea it was just a starting point for my packaging itself

This design for my product is a small step up from the previous one and the net was inspired by the shape of an aircraft and the tab at the side which i stupidly put upside down will be used to put perhaps information about my band e.g. •Tour information •Fan Freebees •Other items that would be helpful in the purchase of the product and also some song information The two triangular section are used to hold the product when closed.

The reason i decided to make this product was to give me an idea of the flexibility and how technical i can make the product. Also the product is still a four fold however it doesn‟t give me much to work with when it comes to make my product so i wont be making this one

together

This page was helping me to get an idea of what I wanted to create, however I struggled to choose and this is when I needed to think about what would look good, simple and creative at the same time

I kept the same idea with this except i put the tap i the right place and i put a small cut out in the triangle which is good they need to be slightly different sizes so that they fit together in that small slit at the top. There wasn't any inspiration for this product as i liked the previous idea and wanted to see if i could improve it, enhance it or even make it look ten times better, but i needed to ad something that could give me, what i think will perhaps push my grade up. The triangular cut out would look good in the finished piece however when testing the product I found it wasn't sturdy enough, however I could use this technique inside the packaging or on my point of sales stand and possible this way it would prove effective and make my produce stand out a bit more. This is one of my final ideas which I was testing and also decided to try adding some patterns and colours to see what I might use. This design is quite complex although it may not look it, I have decided to go with two pockets in the case which are located either side of the packaging and this should prove very effective when it comes to making it as I could make it better by adding a small booklet or information leaflet just to give my product a touch of individuality and uniqueness

This image is what I plan to use as my finished piece however the colours and design on the CD package wont be used as I don't like them and I just needed something to make it stand out and really I was testing what I could do. I decided to move the tab that closes over the packaging to the top because it gave it a neater and more professional and also the use of a small magnetic of Velcro stick to hold the tab down would incorporate the use of a smart material which would show independence and how I have thought carefully about what will give me the best turn out possible for this product, the design in the left corner isn't one of my options although it is four-fold it doesn't give the complexity that I'm looking to achieve from the other design.

This page really helped me to create an image in my head of what I was going to make, however having a small version of the CD package helped me to make a final decision. I went through many different designs to find which was my favourite and finally made a decision which I was happy with. The reason I did this is to see how creative I could be when designing my packaging.

This is my least favourite as my initial idea with this was to test out what I could do and it was just to simple so I would personally rate this model 4 out of 10 because it is far to simple for what I'm looking to make.

This is the front of one of my designs, I like the look of this because it has a small window in one of the faces of paper and it gives it a unique and professional look.

This is another perspective of the design above and gives you a look at what the product would look like closed and again it is very basic and not what I'm looking for to achieve higher grades.

This is part of the design above and its a small insert for a little freebee or booklet which is good for additional information and shows that I'm incorporating different shapes and designs into one piece.

This is a view from the front of the product whilst open, one thing do like about the product is the incorporation of a small pocket inside however it is very boring and I did this so I could see more clearly how and where improvement could be made.

This is one of my favourite pieces as it has more than 4 folds which means I've meat the objective and also I've added a few personal touches in like the small window in the font and a small pocket to hold any additional information

I really like this page and Cameron's final design, its unique, simplistic and eye-catching. Once he has made the design on Photoshop and created a front and back for it i think it will look really good This is one of my favourite options for a front for my product because I will be using a magnet or Velcro to hold the piece down and make easier access to the inside of the CD packaging.

This is a view from the inside of the product above and I was trying out a colour scheme and design which looks good however the colours aren't my favourite and will be changed.

This is a half closed view of one of my ideas and I thought about adding a small window or pocket in here however I donâ€&#x;t think it will be able to stand upright but if I add more than it will be too heavy

This is a similar view to the previous image, but it just doesn't give a nice enough look to the design and is still very simple and not what I'm looking for but if I were to rate the product I would give a 6 out of 10 The next two ideas were never going to be used, although it is unique and has a nice design, it doesn't give the space for additional CDâ€&#x;s, room for a small booklet, and there isn't really any room for improvement and it is very simple. On the other hand it gives me a brief idea of the choices I have with each of my decision and the choices it gives me are for greater than the original design, it also allows me to change the shape of the product and really just experiment with what I can do with the idea.

This image above was the start of my poster which I got the inspiration from other band posters online, the idea was to definitely keep this a simple and minimal as possible, my only concern was that I needed something that would stand out, this is when I rethought my logo design which I placed in the centre of my poster and I was really happy which what I had produced so far

This point I started think about where I was going to position everything on my poster and I started to imagine what it would look like, I decided to put some sponsors on the bottom and introduce some simple yet effective white lines to almost separate each section of the poster into Band Name, Logo, Dates and Sponsors. I also decided to put a label at the top which shows the record company, which is made up, however I think its small yet effective.

This image above is of the finished poster, which I was extremely happy with, I think it looks professional and the quality was perfect, it was just what I imagined. I decided to separate the text into columns which I though was effective as it drew the eye to each different column which is exactly what I wanted to that you read all of the information on the poster, it looks simple which I was impressed with, the only thing I would have changed would have been the logos as I don't think the colours fit in properly

The flyer way key for me as I wanted to make it as the key piece for giving the most info, the only problem I came across was that I didn't know what I wanted it to look like, I finally decided to copy the position o my logo from the poster to flyer and go from there, I wasn't sure whether or not to change the colour of the flyer however I couldn't decide so I made the decision to just keep it there same colour to save me from to much frustration on colour choice.

I decided not to change anything with this as it wouldnâ€&#x;t make a difference as I imagined it would look slight different, however I used my logo in the corners and gave information about an upcoming event preformed by the band which is really just for the person going to the concert for information on where and when to go, also where you can purchase information on ticket sales, but this development was putting any information on the flyer

The development onto the third and final stage of the flyer was putting on the last details like the sponsors and correcting any errors I had made for example the positioning of the text was wrong leading me to almost printing this flyer out with overlapped text, luckily I noticed before this happened. I was pleased with the finished result of the flyer, although the layout wasn't perfect in my mind, the use for this flyer was pretty simple and I feel I achieved this very well, altogether I was pleased with the finished piece

Both CD‟s where originally created using a template as it is more accurate and realistic, rather than creating it by hand which could have left my work looking out of place. The idea for both CD‟s wad to try and follow the pattern as the rest of my work, but try and incorporate something different and unique into the design, I personally think they look good, the CD on the right I was thinking of keeping the same as the one on the left however this would have made my work look to boring and I wanted to try and make them different yet the same. True to life, I place different company logos whom manufacture the CD‟s and codes which makes it look more authentic and realistic.

My point of sales stand is Very important for advertising The CD itself and I wanted again to follow a similar pattern to what I did before and this is what I achieved. The top of the point of sales stand will be cut out using a craft knife to make it stand out, however following the same original point on the left, which was A4 was key in making this happen, I needed to make the piece on the left smaller to accommodate for the unique cut out on top which I wanted the whole thing to still be the size of a piece of A4 paper. I achieved this by using my knowledge and teachers guidance on Adobe Photoshop.

This hand drawn image is what I'm hopping my point of sales stand will look like without colour, the section in the middle is where the CD package itself will be place. The section on top I'm hoping will make my design very individual and unique to me, I though hard about what I will use to for the top cut out, but final I decided to choose my logo, which I moved and tweaked in such a way using Photoshop to finally produce this.

I created this piece to the left is used to hold the CD when attached and being presented from my point of sales stand. Although the design looks simple, when creating and putting this piece together it is rather complex, yet leaves a good quality finish to the P.O.S stand and will also make you‟re work that little bit more personal.

The front of the ticket shown on the left was one of the hardest thing to make, due to the information it had to carry, the ticket needed to look very authentic, it is one of the main pieces of the design and people would see major mistakes it wasn't right, the first development shows how i got the basic layout of the ticket and added information on the left column which hold the hologram for our modern material and this really gives the ticket an authentic feel. Then on the second development I started researching what font was used on tickets and came across a very square, blocky font which matched those which were scene on real tickets, at this point I started to see very quickly how really tickets are made. The final development I added a few touches to give a more unique feel for my design.

The back of the ticket was just as important as the front however I found it so much easier. In the first development again I just began to get the layout but I needed to remember to reverse the white column holding a lot of the information, so that when you tear the section off it is on both sides and not at the wrong end. The second development shows the introduction of some information for the back and what I really wanted to get was the small details on the back so I put terms and conditions of the ticket on the bottom, then decided to put the name of the venue on, which is Metroradio Arena Newcastle. Then finally i added some minor details and a floor plan of the entire arena as a guide for those trying to find there seat which would actually be seen on a real ticket

I chose to make to make a triangular cut out on the second square from the left as it I thought it looked unique, but also it really fit in with the look and ongoing pattern of y work which I loved. The two centre squares are where the front and back of the CD packaging, the right side being the back containing the list of songs, on the left however is the front, I wanted these two sections to look as nice and professional as possible because they were the two sections that were seen the most

With the front of my flyer I knew it would have to be an easy read, not over loaded with information cover. This on the right shows the stages in which I achieved this, besides the ticket and intricate shape of my CD packaging this was one of the hardest designs for me to create, because it had to be simple as the other information would be found on the other side, which is the back of the flyer, this side however is just as important as the other side because if people don't like the back why would they read the back containing the most information, so if needed to create something eyecatching.

I chose this design because it was simple yet incorporated the requirements of the four fold and also some extra sections like the three bellow the main four fold section to help me improve my marks and also give my design a uniqueness to it. The shape you can see has to be exactly the same but reflected 180 degrees in order for me to be able to stick both designs together. Altogether I like the look of this design as it really shows clear links between my work

These pages have given me a great understanding how difficult it was to create such a simple design and make it stand out from other peoples work. I think it has a very unique look to it and I'm really impressed with all of my designs. The page has shown me how effective colour combinations is.

When I was creating my design, 2d Design was the ideal software to produce it. One good reason I used 2d Design is that it allowed me to be more creative with my design, also when using CAD/CAM it also allowed me to create a more intricate design ad the Plotter cutter is much more accurate than hand cutting. The main reason for enhancing work is to give it an outstanding finish, embossing using CAD/CAM is an excellent way to do this. In my piece I will be using a Plotter Cutter to cut the vinyl for my for product, the finish quality is much more accurate and of a higher quality. • CAD- Computer Aided Design. • CAM- Computer Aided Manufacturing. The advantages of using CAD/CAM are: • More accurate designs, also means you can design a more complex design. • Reduces time taken to design and this will allow you to spend more time correcting it if it goes wrong. • The designs can easily be modified on the computer. • Coping the image is much easier on the computer as it allows you to make an exact copy of you‟re design. However just because it is more accurate and takes less time doesn't mean there aren't disadvantages and the disadvantages of using CAD/CAM are: • The software can be extremely difficult to use and understand if not taught or has never been used. • Downloading the software firstly requires a computer and also it is expensive. • Might not be saved correctly. Smart Materials: • Vinyl can be expensive to replace if you have mad mistakes on you‟re design.

An example of a smart material is a hologram which I will include on my ticket to make it have a more authentic feel to it. Holograms are used in various different ways from tickets to money, also However they are very important for security.

To create my design I didn‟t actually copy and paste anything into the software, but I took the idea from some freebies that come with the CD package, the idea was to have something that didn‟t look the same as most other things on the CD packaging, but at the same time to still chow a clear link between two.

Smart materials are materials that have special properties that react to changes in the environment. This means that one of their properties can be changed by an external condition, such as temperature, light, pressure or electricity. This change is reversible and can be repeated many times.

From this page I got a full understanding of what 2D design is and how I can use it to benefit and enhance my work to a high quality, using this in my work will also show my knowledge on how to use the software and operate the plotter cutter

if another person was to view this page, they would hopefully get a wider understanding of how I made my band items to a good standard, environmentally friendly and following the design brief.

This is the Quality Control flow chart, if I was to follow this it would give me a very professional band product and identity.

Shows the dimensions of the product for the user.

This tools and materials page shows me exactly what I need, when I need it and how useful it is towards my production. The use for each material/tool is listed on the table which will show you exactly when you need to use it. health and safety is a big issue in the world of industry and it is used to prevent the user from harm

I really like this page as it shows Cameron's knowledge of how others can use this information to get a better understanding of his work.

This is my nest consisting of all my final designs, they've been tessellated to reduce the amount of paper used and wasted.

From this page I have learnt how getting an understanding for other people to comment of my work will help show them what my work is about and whether or not it is at a good/high quality.

I really like Cameron‟s designs, colour scheme and art work, I think it looks professional enough to be a marketable product. The way each element links together makes the overall product cohesive and properly structured. I also like the development process and the depth in which Cameron has explained the whole process. Excellent job.

Looking though the project the overall design is reflective of the “drum and base” music scene – from the muted colours to the strong logos making a bold and eye catching product. I like the development of ideas which take influence from many modern styles. I particularly like the environment concerns which Cameron has considered when researching and producing his project. Great product which i would defiantly consider buying.

Personal Opinion

Opinion 3 : Abigail Irvine

This project has shown me many challenges throughout, however these challenges haven't all been bad, but they have all been rectified to improve my work in such a way that I hope to boost the overall appeal and make the piece more true to the task and brief. I personally think my work looks professional and the quality of the make was high. The colour was the hardest part of my work as it really tested my knowledge of colour theory and knowing what combinations work together, but altogether I'm extremely pleased with how the project has turned out

Great colours, great design, great theme, even though I don't like drum and base music i think this is a fab product because it look new, fresh and eye catching. It would stand out in a shop for all the right reasons. If the whole product was recyclable that would be a great benefit and selling point. Top job, great effort.

The Customer: Gender: I feel have met the gender that would buy the product at the start of the project, which was mainly males, it shows throughout my work that it is more masculine however I tried to introduce amore feminine feel to the design as I know girls would most definitely listen to the music.

Initial Task: This is the task I was set at the start of the project to help me, guide me and tell me what I need to achieve. I believe that using my knowledge I achieved what the initial task was asking to a solid high standard.

Customer: I feel I successfully achieved a high standard of work throughout this project. I set my product price at a reasonable affordable price as the target audience I was providing for probably wouldn‟t be earning.

when designing the product I really had to think hard about who my audience would be and how I would be able to adapt my work to suit the needs of the people that want to by this sort of music. The product had to be similar to the same CD packaging genres out there but eye-catching and different so people would see it and be interested.

Design Brief

I followed exactly what the design brief asked from the start of the project to this current moment in time, the brief asked for product advertising in CD packaging, CD‟s, Posters, Point of Sales stand, Flyers and Tickets. Although my theme was of the genre „Drum and Bass‟, i wanted my CD packaging to look different, however still following the brief clear links can be drawn. My target market was teens from 1320, I feel I have met the needs and would definitely appeal to someone of that age. I'm very impressed with how the final product has turned out and met the design brief which is clear throughout my work. I created my logo to further enhance my work to meet the brief as well and i personally this the project has been success.

Aesthetics:

Materials:

The look of my final design I feel are great, eye-catching and colour co-ordinated very well. The sizing of all my products was accurate and appropriate. The logos and fonts were appropriate throughout the project, overall I think the project was a great success.

The material I chose needed to be strong and durable on order to protect the CD, I Target Audience: Weight: achieved this by using I tried to keep the weight as low as When I complete the making of my products, they had accurately met the requirement of my materials such as Card possible but at the same time keep target market. My target market was male so I tried to incorporate the colours I like as I'm male. and Paper. it so it has a sturdy feel to it.

Function:

Cost:

The function was pretty straight forward but it had to be easy to use and operate, this is why I chose to make my design more simplistic but affective

The cost of materials was low as the main project was on Photoshop and other PC software's. this means I would be able to earn a bigger profit as I didn‟t spend much money on the initial make.

Testing: At the beginning of the project I said I would test material to see what would be the strongest and most durable for the purpose of CD packaging, however this couldn‟t be done due to the limited amount of resources in the Technology department.

Size: The size of the products was accurate. The CD package itself was retail sized and held 2 ordinary CD.

Durability:

.I used strong, durable card on my make which has proven to be very affective. The purpose o the packaging is to one advertise the CD and two to Protect the CD inside, the other items are for advertising. Ergonomics:

The sizes of each of my product was very accurate and of an appropriate size, which was my initial aim due to my knowledge of Photoshop and using different techniques.

Target Audience: I think I meet my target audience however If I was to change the aesthetics of the product the it could be more fitting to the genre of „Drum and Bass‟. But altogether I feel this was a success.

Environmental issues:

Timescale:

i know that I haven't effected the environment in a devastating or miniscule way, this was a difficult aim. I tried not to waste any materials which may lead to harm.

This was probably the most important on the specification, as I couldn‟t afford to loos an time on this project and I have successfully met the time that was required

What would I modify: Firstly I would love to make the following modifications, however unfortunately I cant as I don't have the time, materials or equipment to do so. I would first modify the material I used on the process of backing my point of sales stand as it has left me with some not very neat finished cuts on the sides. So I would use a thinner card or board, however it would be just as durable and strong for the same purpose, this would hopefully same me a lot of time trying to improve the messy sides the thick board has left as it is not easily cut with a craft knife, however the craft knife would only be used when the gelatine cannot. Secondly I'd most definitely change the card used to make the CD packaging itself, as it was very easily torn and this became a problem when storing the products at the end of each lesson, however using a thicker card would allow me to enhance my work and also give it an industry standard feel, the feel of the hard wasn't pleasant in the hand, this links nicely with the use of the printer, i would have almost definitely changed the printer to one of an industrial standard, however we are limited to the equipment in the school. The ink quality was varied, my work has some patches of darkened ink which shouldn't have been there, this will not effect my grade, however it will effect the aesthetics and my opinion on the work. The overall finish of the CD packaging was good however with these two improvement and modifications it could be much better. The CDâ€&#x;s themselves were done in card and stuck on a blank CD. The modification id make is that i would have made the card cut out of a glossy material giving that shine that most other CDâ€&#x;s would be seen with, this would make the work more authentic, however we don't have the facilities to do this. The other modification would be quite insignificant however they would effect my judgement of the work, such as making the CD packaging design more complex, but I don't have the time to do this to a significantly affective standard which in itself is a shame but i should have made that decision when designing my net. The final modification id make is to the ticket and by putting a sort of tear line on to make the ticket more authentic and feel more real in the hand which would be affective but this would take time to do successfully and i personally have no knowledge on how I would do this.

This page shows me what I could have changed if I had more time, more equipment and more material to work with.

Commercial production is the process of designing and manufacturing products for a set company or a group, on an industrial scale, this is done to provide bulk amount of stock for the retailer selling the goods, so there are four tiers of commercial production which are: Batch Production: Batch production is when a small amount of the exact same product for example bread or other small scale items and it will also have a stronger work force of people rather than machines working on the products, but jigs and templates are used to aid production. Batches of the product can be made as often as required. The machines can be modified to suit the needs of a different batch production. In this process things are not done by hand but may require a template to make the products identical to one another.

One-off Production: This process called one-off production will require a large different work force to suit the needs of this generally quite unique that being produced. The production may be by hand rather than machinery as this will save costs dramatically but also it is more expensive luxury items that would be made this way as they are unique in everyway.

Mass Production: Mass production happens on relatively large scale and would probable be one of the most common methods of production to this day along with continuous flow production. The process is mainly the making of hundreds of products on a production line. Mass production would generally consist of different assembly lines which each make different components which are finally put together at the end and the finished product would be in one piece, for example a car production line is an example of mass production as it has several different assembly lines, and this process would use CNC which mean the production is all run by machines.

Continuous flow: This process is quite self explanatory and is where you have thousand and thousand of products being made in huge demand for example certain clothing companies like Primark would see this process happen. The production operation is kept running for 24 ours a day, 7 days a week to maximise production and also to earn the maximum profit from the huge quantities being sold. This process of leaving the operation running will help to minimise the cost as starting production can take hours if not days to get back up and running and the large companies doing this cannot afford to miss a single week or day of this high intensity process. Continuous flow production would be most likely to be operated by machines as it is more efficient and take for less time then by hand.

This page shows how Bob understand the different processes of production and how effective they a in the commercial production

From this page I have learnt that different processes of production allow you to do different things and i know that my product would come under the one-off production.

These items are all part of my final make, overall I'm very impressed with the turn out of tall the items. They were printed on a 38inch long piece of card which was tessellated to help save the paper and not waste any wanted materials

I have learnt an awful lot from this project, not only how to design and create a product but also I experienced a minuscule section of what industries experience daily and it is a real eye opener. I have also learnt how difficult it is to design these items under the pressure of time, a brief, my target audience etc.
