A Message from Your Editor! Hello readers! The school year is over so CONGRATULATIONS to all of you for surviving another year and graduating to the next grade level! You all made it through! However just because school is over doesn’t mean that Key Club is! Throughout the summer the other officers and I will continue to update you on all the upcoming Key Club events. It will be a summer full of fundraisers, starfish bonding, and a load of service! I can’t wait for all you to see what’s in store for us for the next three months. The month of May, although it was hectic, was full of dedication. Despite there being two weeks worth of AP testing, finals, and struggling to make the grade before the end of the school year, you key Clubbers didn’t stop committing your weekends to events. I am always grateful to see all of you put your heart and soul despite having a very busy schedule. Now that you don’t have to spend too much time studying spend as much time as you can to dedicate yourself to serve your home, school, and community. I hope to see you all at an event in June! I can’t wait to start our summer full of service!

Past Events . . . On July 18th Key Clubbers from all over Division 3 North gathered at Glendale Community College in order to learn more about the roles they play in Key Club. Despite the name Officer Training Conference this event was open to all members including those who are non-officers. This was a way for the members and officers to gain more knowledge about how they can better our home, school, and community through workshops that are handled by other members and officers. Starting at 10:20AM members were able to go to a wide-variety of workshops that include workshops on officer positions, Key Club 101, effective leadership, and more. After we all gathered again to eat a well-provided lunch. During this time, members and officers were able to get to know one another better. They were also able to meet new friends from other schools and see some old ones as well. After lunch, we had our last workshop which consisted of either learning to make an impact, active appreciation, public speaking, and planning events. The last activity we did was the division council meeting of each respective division. During the 3 North DCM, the members gathered in groups of people with the same colored folder as them and play a game that required an effective characteristic of a leader. After hearing the reports of each school and some announcements sadly it was time for everyone to head off after a day filling ourselves with joy, spirit, and knowledge. Picture Credit to

On May 27, Memorial Day 2013. Key Clubbers had the opportunity to participate in the La Cañada Memorial Day Walk/Run. Upon arrival, volunteers were greeted by the very energetic and excited staff who began assigning various jobs to the members. These jobs included taking the time of runners as they passed mile markers, giving medals to kids who completed the Family Fun Run, and passing water to those who completed the tremendous 5k. The volunteers were split up and those whose responsibility it was to take times for the runners, received the opportunity to be driven down the street in the back of a cop car. Despite this excitement, the timers later had to stand all by themselves on the street. While the other members didn’t get the opportunity to take a trip with a police officer, they were given the job of passing out medals to the children who crossed the finished line. These lucky members were able to see the way the kids’ faces lit up as they found out they would be receiving a medal. The kids were very grateful and anyone there could just tell how much the medals and the experience meant to them. In addition to this job of handing out medals, the volunteers who stayed behind had the responsibility of taking photos of the great volunteer opportunity as well as passing out water to those who finished the 5k. While passing out the water, all the workers could tell just how much the runners were craving water once they had passed the finish line. The runners worked so hard to finish just over 3 miles in a short period of time. They had worked to be able to complete the run and all the runners gained more respect out of it. Even kids around 10 years old had the determination to finish the run, that’s amazing they have that kind of inspiration at such a young age. Once the runs had been completed for the day, the Key Club volunteers had an opportunity to talk and bond at the end. So this service event was just a form of community service, but also a bonding experience to everyone who attended. It was definitely worth it to wake up at 6 o’clock on a day off from school.

Member of the Month

Sean Gedorio—a diligent and devoted worker! Though he might seem kind of short in his size, he demonstrates hard work and really shows what it is like to be a full-blasted Key Clubber. Not only is he very gentle and kind, but he is also outgoing and at times quite funny…not to mention that he is smooth with the ladies…Indeed, though Sean is technically an officer – to be specific, our school board’s Tech-Chair—he not to be underestimated as a devoted MEMBER: while everybody else was supposedly busy with all their AP exams and whatnot, Sean devoted his time to make things happen at the meetings, such as creating powerpoints, highly significant to the final general meeting we had for this year. He is also present at all times, especially in some of the service events we had for this month! In the Memorial Day Run event at the Descanso Botanical Gardens, Sean helped out and volunteered effectively and with enthusiasm. In fact, Sean was probably one of the few active members for this month of May! His initiative to carry out the tasks that we could not do truly demonstrates his leadership and awesomeness that contribute to how great Key Club is! More than ever before, Sean is a wonderful member (and officer) to have in our school club, and we will continue to marvel at his actions!

Officer of the Month

Angela never stops to spread the joy and excitement of service to our school. She enthusiastically reaches out to all of our members as well as our officers for their participation in upcoming events and never refuses to turn down an opportunity to express her love to serve our community. Although this may be her first year as Crescenta Valley's Key Club Officer, she has shown a level of dedication that goes above and beyond of what is expected of her. Already joining part of the Division 3N's officer board and simultaneously working as our club's project chair, she has achieved the most number of service and key club hours in this AP hectic month of May. Angela has truly demonstrated she deserves this recognition from Crescenta Valley's Key Club, and I am glad that she is with us to further better our club as she stands by us with her never ending smile and her bright optimism. Angela represents a role model for what it means to be a true Key Clubber. With her dedication and enthusiasm I can see that she will only go on further in her future in Key Club.
