Hello Readers Just a quick message from me! I would like to say I hope you all enjoyed your summer because school is about to start which means more Key Club and meetings! I can’t wait to meet all of you again and hopefully we can all improve our club this upcoming year. I can’t wait to recruit freshmen to join our club and also can’t wait for more events to go to because that’s what Key Club is all about. Service! A Message from Your President! Hello Key Clubbers! School is just around the corner! I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer vacation and is ready for a new school year. Remember, to become a registered Key Club member, you must turn in your dues. These dues are very important if you want to attend and participate in Key Club exclusive events such as DCON. When registering, it is actually required for you to have a Key Club ID# or else you won’t be able to go to DCON! So make sure to pay for your dues! As a reminder, here is a breakdown of why you pay the $20. $6.50 goes to Key Club International. When you pay for your dues, you will receive a membership card and a pin because you paid for this portion. $4.50 goes to the District. This portion of the dues gives our District Board more leeway in making sure we have a better DCON and a better district! The remaining $9 goes into our club funds! The more funds we have, the more we can give to you, the members. We usually use this money for club T-shirts. A new thing this year….drum roll please…..club sweaters! We have wanted to sell these for years but never got to them. Things are changing because we want you to show your spirit even on cold days! Remember that the club sweater design contest ends on August 16! You will receive a free sweater if you win! Also, if you have any questions or concerns whether it’s Key Club related or not, you are ALWAYS welcome to e-mail me at Corliss@cvkeyclub.com. I want to establish that I will always be here for you. As president, I serve my members, not the other away around. I want to make sure you have a wonderful Key Club year and that you will be able to grow as leaders. I wish to see you all during club expo. Make sure to sign up for Key Club again! Spread the news to all your friends. With love,

Corliss Kanazawa President 2013-14

Past Events . . . POPS Concert @ Arboretum in Arcadia It was a hot, blistering day at the Arboretum in Arcadia. We were given nothing but water and shade to shield us from the sun. Yet, Key Clubbers from CV and other schools were having a blast, serving to their fullest even when the weather is really hot. The jobs that were available were one such as ushering people to their seats, answering any questions the audience had, and setting up tables and chairs for the people to sit on! While dressed up in white and black, we put on our happiest faces and prepared ourselves for the waves of people that flooded into the Arboretum. We were having so much fun helping out and serving those who need help that it didn’t even seem like service at all! And because of hard work and positive attitude we even generously got tips from ushering some guests! Even though the weather was unbearably hot and we were exhausted and tired, in the end, helping all those people out was all we needed to get through the entire day. You guys should come out to future POPS Concert events! You won't regret coming!

Food Bank @ 1734 East 41st Street On July 13th, Crescenta Valley’s Key Club woke up early to help out at the LA Food Bank. Although only two members attended the event, a lot of service was given to the community with the help of all the other groups present as well. Attendees were informed about the growing and prominent problem of hunger in Los Angeles, as well as the efforts of the Food Bank to eradicate it. Immediately after a short presentation, they were put to work in different areas of sorting. CV Key Club was transferred to the "Product Drive", where a variety of products had to be sorted and placed into boxes for the needy to use. In order to accomplish this task, our members worked diligently for almost four hours. As a result, several palettes with boxes stacked high were wrapped and moved for delivery. At the end of the day, all the attendees were tired. However, their spirits were revitalized once they heard that they had helped out several hundred families. Once again, although we were few, Key Club made a difference in society and found the true meaning of service in this past event.

Sand, sun, s’mores, and spiritful Key Clubbers from all over Region 7 are only a few of the components needed to have an amazing beach day! On July 20th, Key Clubbers woke up early and meet up at Burbank High School in order to go to beach on the bus together. Once arriving at Dockweiler Beach, we spent some time to settle in before starting on ice breakers which led to meeting new and amazing friends. After completing the ice breakers, we later on were put into groups according to the month that we were born in. Based on these groups, we had a competition to see which month would be able to collect as much trash within the 30 minute time frame. However, whether we won the competition or not we were all more than glad to take some of our time to clean up the beach. The rest of the time we all did whatever we pleased whether it be laying down in the sand to tan, playing the ukulele and singing along with some friends, or swim to our hearts content. We also had a brief DCM in all of our respective division. During the event, the infamous R7 sweaters were also being sold for $30. By the time it was 7:00PM, we all packed up our personal belongings and sadly went back to the buses heading for Burbank High School. We all said our goodbyes before heading our separate ways. This being one of the last events for some of the Key Clubbers heading off to college, there many bittersweet moments that none of us will ever forget.

Future Events... The Last Splash | August DCM @ Dunsmore Park 12PM-2PM Key Clubbers! This is your last chance to spend some quality starfish bonding time with Division 3 North! This August DCM will consist of many fun and exciting activities so do before school begins such as: the division council meeting, free lunch, water balloons, pie-ing, and a special service event too! You will be able to pie the division’s own leadership team Jaqueline Tsang ( LTG) , Angela Kwon (EA), Christine Noh (Sec.), Cindy Ye (DE), and Sofia Kim (MO) for only a dollar each! Also, for the service event we will unite to create a large Twister board to lend to community events for others to enjoy. We will also take some time to clean up the park. Plus the divisional pins are now available (picture on the middle right)! You have a chance to buy them at the DCM for a dollar per pin. However there is a limited supply so take this chance to buy them before they run out! We hope to see you all there!
