Addie Heyliger 2021 COMMUNITY HERO

ddie Heyliger is an accomplished technology professional with over two decades of interfacing with senior business executives and technical teams. She provides leadership to a technology organization in the areas of business engagement, project management, and portfolio value and delivery. While Addie has excelled professionally and won many awards in her career, her passion is service. Addie brings over 25 years of community service to the Fort Bend/Houston Area. Addie started her work preparing and delivering meals for families while their loved ones were ill. She was able to fulfill one of her lifelong passions by advocating for children in the foster care system, promoting and supporting children's placement from foster care to adoption. She led by example, adopting two children of her own and encouraging adoption to families in her community. Her work with various organizations has led to other successful adoption placements. In addition to her advocacy regarding adoption, she also advocates for children with mental illness. Addie closely works with local law enforcement and medical professionals to render proper services for youth. Most notably, she was elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2018 as trustee of the Fort Bend Independent School District board. Addie currently serves as president of the FBISD board. With Addie’s assistance, FBISD increased the academic ratings for schools that required academic improvement. Additional accomplishments include the creation of an Early Literacy Center, offering Early College High School and Pathways in Technology programs, universal course selection for all high school students, started special education improvement programs for more inclusion of special needs children, developed a board leadership academy, and most importantly, has driven high academic accountability for all the students in the district.

Addie believes that the foundation of a child’s education is their ability to read. She initiated “Addie’s Read-A-Thon” to support one of the underperforming schools in the district, where over 70 volunteers from the community and professional organizations volunteer their time. Due to the success of this program, the read-a-thon was quickly adopted and is now an annual event. Addie is a certified technology professional, having earned her undergraduate degree in computer science from North Carolina A&T State University and her master’s in business administration from Texas Women’s University. She is a certified project management professional.

Sorority, Inc., The Links Incorporated, and Jack and Jill of America, Inc. She is an active member of The Fort Bend Church. She also serves as the president of the National Congress of Black Women – Houston Metropolitan Chapter. She is the proud mother of two handsome young men, Milton and Alex Heyliger.
