Hello, D05 North!

Retirement and Graduation

Eric Kor IP Lieutenant Governor 2013-2014 Hello Corgis, I can’t believe it’s over. Last weekend was the best DCON for me and I’m so sad that it’s all over. Being a Lt. Governor wasn’t an easy job. From pulling countless numbers of all nighters, to getting yelled at but adults, and making all the mistakes I’ve made throughout my term, I’ve gained so much throughout this experience. I’ve grown so much as an individual and as a leader and I would like to thank everyone for this opportunity. I want to thank D05N for making First of all, me your LTG and giving me the chance to lead the division into new heights. Those tears late at night and the urge to quit were extremely prevalent so I would like to thank you all for the motivation and pushing me when I needed it. Thank you. So it’s over. I am now the PAST Division 05 North Lt. Governor and I am extremely thankful for everything I’ve done and learned throughout this entire term. Officially being retired, I congratulate Kimberly Barga as the 2nd ever D05N Korgi LTG.

Installment

Kimberly Barga Lieutenant Governor 2014-2015

Hello Division 05 North, The past few weeks have been crazy and emotional; from being elected to installment to finally getting down to business. During my time away at District Convention, I learned much more about my duties to not just the community, but to you. The past few days reminded me of not why I joined Key Club, but why I stayed. Key Club is without a doubt a service organization, but it is much more than that. I have grown to see as a contributor and a leader that the small efforts we make can greatly impact the lives of others. I hope that with what I have learned, I can inspire you and motivate you to join me in creating an experience that will last with us forever. I am looking forward to a successful term of growth and unity within the division. Most importantly, I am anticipating working alongside each of the clubs to reach these goals. Thank you all for your undying support, I would not be here if it weren’t for you. Now, let us celebrate a new year of service, leadership, and family! Kimberly Barga

Around the Division On Saturday April 5th, from 7:30-10am the Clovis East High School Key Club volunteered at the Community Food Bank. About 15 members were able to volunteer at this Service Event. Our job as a club was to open up juice boxes, then check each pouch for leaks before we placed them in big crates. This service project was a very rewarding experience knowing that our club benefited the community by volunteering. New officers for next year’s term have already looked into volunteering at the Food Bank more often for the next school year. th On Tuesday April 8 , at the April Club lunch Meeting, the Clovis East Key Club helped with a Service Project with a foreign exchange club member. Saira, is from Kyrgyzstan, and part of her program is to do a service project for the community they are living in. She volunteers at the SPCA and said they were in need of blankets for cats and dogs. So our club helped her make fleece for the animals. Saira was very grateful tie blankets and our club members enjoyed having of our help fun while volunteering! Garabedian Cortney

District Convention Recap The Golden Ticket Key Club District Convention 2014 was unprecedented for me. Initially, my home club had made it highly recommended to attend DCON if we were to apply for a officer position. I unfortunately lost the battle for the president position, but I decided to attend the district event nevertheless. The trip was a bit difficult for me as I had suffered sleep deprivation the entire week leading to DCON, but the social interaction and valuable leadership lessons really my being. After the trip was coming to a benefitted close, a saddening, nostalgic emotion overwhelmed me unexpectedly. I thought I wouldn't miss the long hours of lecture, yet I realized that the 2700 people's enthusiasm and love for their community really influenced my heart. I valued the world much more and am now taking everything I encounter to be wonderful, because I'm definitely better something than good. William Jinsung Cho Clovis West Member, 13-14 My DCON experience was one I can never forget, as a sophomore I am very thankful that I can go as the new president of Clovis North Key Club. As it was my second year attending District Convention, I had been looking forward to the event all year. With what I learned last year in my journey into leadership, I could not believe what I had gained from this experience. Whether it was mentioned last year or new information to me this year, it made an impact on who I am as a role model to others, a mentor to youth, and a team leader, friend, and brother to my Ohana. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end; I was so happy that I could spend this DCON with the best seniors in the best division! D05N! On side, with the end of one thing comes the birth of something new: the 2014-2015 the bright term. I have much to look forward to based on this past weekend. It was truly a DCON that I can't forget! My First District Convention Over the entirety of the 2014 District Convention for Key Club, I have come to gather an immense sense of pride which surmounts my previous understanding of Key Club. From the moment of anticipation boarding the bus to Sacramento until the bittersweet turn back into the Clovis West parking lot as we returned on Sunday, I was immersed in a unified band of devout key clubbers who regarded me among everyone else as a member of one “ohana”. Initially, when we arrived I was overwhelmed by the spectacle of people adorned with war paint and costumes featuring their mascots, though all too soon I too was yearning to be festooned with the same adornments. Moreover, learning from retiring district governor Victoria Lai that over a million hours of community service hours had been completed over the last year was absolutely awe-inspiring and each general session surmised of the core values I learned throughout the experience. Suddenly, I understood that in order to fulfill my duties in Key Club proactively, I had to act upon my passion rather than wait for the opportunity to arrive. The convention activated my evolution into a greater key clubber whose mission was clear and enacted by the observations I made of those who already comprehended their purpose. I now realize that each member of key club has a purpose to aid not only those who are the recipients of our fundraisers and community work, but also those who we see at Key Club meetings and alongside us as we hand out water during marathons. During the extent of my stay, I was able to identify all four characteristics of leadership, caring, character building, and inclusiveness in the guiding hand of my fellow division members. I am so grateful to have had the ability to partake in the events of the district convention and proud to have represented the corgis.

Leslie Bravo, Cecelia Hernandez and Lenisa Bravo were each awarded multi-speed bikes on April 11th, in recognition of their continued service to the needy persons of Madera. While all members of Key Club are committed to service, and each student must complete qualifying hours of work for the community, these three members provided extra-ordinary service, serving food every Sunday morning at the “Holy Family Table” meal kitchen. “It was the first time I ever volunteered to help others. It made me feel good and I wanted to do more.”
