Swingin’ for Service, Division

WHAT’S SWINGING DIVISION 13 NORTH!

IT’S MARCH! So let’s MARCH into Service! With only one month of the term left to go, I’d like to take this space to remind you to reflect on the amazing term we have had thus far.

From the beginning of the term since Summer, I have made it a priority to create DCMs that were fresh and new! In April we had our “Everything Rock” DCM and in May we had our Spelling Bee DCM! In addition, this term we tried new types of fundraisers like our Bingo Night and Karaoke Night Fundraisers where we raised money for the Pediatric Trauma Program!

Starting my term I had goals set in mind for raising $4000 towards PTP and serving an accumulative 5000 hours and today, I am so proud to say we have surpassed these goals within our term. From the countless fundraisers and service project planning, we did THAT! I am grateful to see the hard work and dedication to Key Club from presidents, our DLT officers, club officers, and most importantly, our members.

In addition, we got that Spirit Stick! From RTC and FRS spirit sessions, to planning busses and payments for spirit packs, organizing t-shirts, and so many spirit team meetings, winning the RTC and FRS spirit stick was truly a core memory of mine in Key Club. I want to shout out Mary and Justin and also our Spirit Team!

Finally, there is so much unseen time and work behind the curtain from our publicity team! Ryan, your Division Tech Editor, and Lauren, your Division Newsletter Editor, has always been on top of it for publishing beautiful graphics and informative resources for YOU! Shoutout to all of their hard work since the very beginning

With that, thank you for reading my March LTG message! Enjoy the rest of this issue!

Swingin’ for Service, Division 13 North Lieutenant Governor ‘22-’23 4

In the past month, Division 13 North participated in keeping their members updated with their March DCM! Members welcomed their new Lieutenant Governor for the 2023-2024 at our baby shower filled with games and information about the end of the term!

Division 13 North clubs also kept members engaged during March like Mayfair’s joint service event with Poly Key Club. All clubs have been preparing for the end of the term with their officer elections!

Be prepared for our upcoming banquet on April 8th! Continue serving our communities til the very end of the term! It ends next month!

Region 8's 'Night in a Thousand Paintings' formal was hosted at Hawthorne Memorial Center on Saturday, February 18th from 5:30 to 8 pm. Given that this was the first formal dance in three years due to the 2020 pandemic, I was really looking forward to the event. A week prior, my friend and fellow Division 13 North news editor Lauren Uy and I, decided to plan and record a special performance of Kesha's 'Tik Tok' for this day... and it arrived. Coming into the venue with a Dutch Bros latte I had no expectations until I walked into the main auditorium to a dimly lit atmosphere with table and fairy lights, flower decorations, and a warming ambience. It provided an opportunity for me to socialize with friends from my home division but also those from the other divisions, like Clairose from Division 13 South and Khoiriyah from Division 13 West. For this event we were served potstickers, coconut shrimp, and pizza as food options. But the most important aspect: the dance floor. Music from various artists and genres like Ice Spice, Cardi B, and New Jeans had everyone bussing out by the stage, and me and Lauren even used our prop money guns to spray (small) amounts of replica $100 bills on people. Why did we have them in the first place?! Our Tik Tok performance! After the crowning of the formal court (shout out to those who won), our host Janelle announced the performance while Lauren and I crawled backstage recharging our money guns. We sent the backing track over to Denise, the audio engineer, and show time. The experience was pretty funny and embarrassing but still fun, as we sang to our pre-recorded backing tracks and acted like we were BLACKPINK on stage. The key highlight from our performance was at the final chorus, 'Now the party doesn't stop til' we walk in' when we finally unleashed the Benjamins all over the floor and had everyone hyped. The Laur n' Ryan experience. Thanks to our LTGs and advisors this event was a success, but simultaneously this happened to be the last region event of the term. Bye seniors!

SPRING INTO ACTION DCM

ACTION

Nicholas Nauta Historian|Lakewood

On February 25th, Lakewood Key Club attended D13N Spring Into Action DCM! This DCM as always was held at Bellflower Kiwanis Hall but moved earlier in the day due to weather conditions so that hopefully more people could make it. Before it had started everybody was told to bring a blanket or plushie and a board game so that we could keep warm in the cold weather and just vibe to some games! One person even brought their Wii so that people could just dance on it! When most of the chairs in the Hall filled up we started with an Ice breaker called Psychiatrist. It's a game where a person has to guess what move everybody does before answering their question! It was super fun watching the other people trying to figure out what move everybody was doing and I think everybody enjoyed it by how loud they were laughing. Quickly after we went over Old business then New business and finished with Recognitions. Alena (our MRC) also had some news to tell us saying how she was moving away and it was gonna be her last DCM with us:( We went on to play some of the Board games and you could tell how much enjoyment everybody was having from all of the screams! Overall this DCM was super successful and chill!
