Division 15 Banquet by Gillian Day, Upland On Thursday, July 7th, Division 15 held their annual banquet at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills. The DLT tried their best to incorporate the theme “AcadeKEY Awards throughout the entire night in hopes of making it even more exciting. The night was a long celebration of all of the accomplishments our clubs had made within their own communities. As guests arrived, they signed in at the registration table and received their own personalized name cards. When everyone had taken their seats, Nanxi had a short introduction speech and our delicious meal was served almost immediately. The banquet was kicked off with some silly gag awards presented by Executive Assistant Dylan Pelayo and Member Recognition Chair Adriel Eje. As a continuation of the awards, IP LTG Nanxi Liu and current LTG Ricky Ruiz presented awards like Most Improved Club, Outstanding President, Member of the Year and many more! As the banquet came to a close, members came up to the podium to share speeches about how their Key Club experience has undoubtedly impacted their lives. The annual division banquet was a wonderful opportunity for the division to grow closer together. Everyone there was truly brought together by our common love for service. I am so fortunate to be a part of this ohana and I think that the division 15 banquet this year was definitely one to remember!

Region 13 Picnic by Ally Chien, Chino Hills Wow I never thought Region 13 Picnic would be sooo much fun! It was my first time at Region 13 Picnic and I had a blast! Region 13 Picnic is basically where different divisions, which are in Region 13, meet up and socialize! Each school had their own booth of what they sell to other key clubbers. Chino Hills High School’s booth sold mason jars of your choice of either lemonade, strawberry lemonade, or watermelon lemonade. Get this, we put in fresh watermelon!! Once every key clubber was settled in, we started the day with ice breakers. Ice breakers are basically where you break the awkwardness between two people or a whole group. Everybody got a number and we broke off into groups. When icebreakers were done, it was time to practice for our spirit battles!! Every club got split off into their own section and started practicing their cheers! Unfortunately, this year Division 15 did not win the spirit battle but at least we tried our best! Definitely coming back next year to win that spirit battle!!!!

Relay for Life by Brenda Gomez, Pomona Relay for life is to celebrate, remember, and fight back. The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event is a life-changing experience that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember lost loved ones, and fight back against the disease. It’s an honor to say that Pomona High School Key Club helped raise $40,000 along with many other organizations in just one day! It was an amazing experience overall and Key Club cannot wait to attend next summer. We held a “Corn on the Cob” booth. What my job consisted of was adding toppings to the corn passed down the table by our Vice President, Luisa. It was a very hot sunny day, but that didn’t stop us from serving with a smile. Relay for Life consisted of a sleepover and one of our members built the tent for us. It was five of us in a tent, on a hot day, but this definitely helped us grow in our relationship and become more than just peers. The next morning we heard talks from cancer survivors, caregivers, and those who commemorated the ones who lost this battle. We learned that anyone can make a difference.

626 Night Market by Andrew Le, Rancho Cucamonga An annual event to celebrate Asian customs and traditions, 626 Night Market brings amazing food, fun games, beautiful arts and crafts, and cute merchandise for people like us to enjoy. As a volunteer, we were given a different perspective of the market. We helped set up the tents, directed people to wherever they needed to be (like help vendors find their booth or help guide regular attendees to the main entrance), and assisted anyone that needed our help. Without us, the coordinators would have had a hard time keeping the market in control. Having to face multiple issues without our help would have been difficult. What we procured from this opportunity is that volunteering makes a big difference. Not because we obtained hours and benefits, but because we were able to alleviate the workload that the coordinators carried during this event.
