Hello Division 15 Giraffes! Hope many of you are enjoying the excitement of being back to school! I want to give some personal suggestion on how to handle the combination of stress due to school and Key Club-BREATHE. It is very important for all of us to take a break in a while, so do not feel guilty that you are relaxing instead of working. What you are doing will be fine, and if there any problems please do not hesitate to come talk to me! I am more than happy to help you. Club Rush month is either quickly approaching, or has approached, and I wish the best of luck for all the clubs in recruiting members. I have heard many great news from many schools regarding bigger numbers in membership, so I cannot wait to see what you all will accomplish this year. Do not forget about the Membership Update Center, a highly important business in order for your club to stay active. Additionally, hope to see all of you at the upcoming Region Training Conference, to have an extended knowledge about Key Club! Keep up the fantastic work. Yours in Service, Amy He

On September 14th, Key Clubbers all gathered at Sky High, a Trampoline Park, in Ontario to hold the DCM. Make sure you invite the Lieutenant Governor to one of your general meetings for this year! It’s important for her to visit before November. Club visitations are great because your members can see the scale of Key Club and get to meet a “prestigious” person who can expose members to more outside of their own club. Not only that, but it benefits officers because the Lieutenant Governor can see the condition of your club, and help give improvements, suggestions, critiques, and ideas as well as sort out any problems you may have. So just e-mail Amy at d15.cnhkc.ltg@gmail.com with a date and time to set it up!

UNICEF provides long term assistance to children and mother’s in developing countries. It is an organization run by the United Nations, exclusively for children. It has many community based services for primary care, safe water, basic education, and sanitation.

In the 1940’s, a small family in Pennsylvania had mixed emotions about just giving candy to children. They wanted to turn it into something good and meaningful, and soon Trick or Treat for UNICEF was born. It helps children discover their ability to help others and has grown to be a large youth initiative. Key Club has since partnered and raised money for ELIMINATE project through these boxes!

order your boxes and kits directly from Kiwanis, email campaign@theeliminateproject.org or call (317) 217-6213 . If you already ordered it before there is no need to order more! It will be sent to you again!

Isaiah’s Rock Food Packaging By: Jaie Peshawaria The first Key Club event of the year for our school was on Friday, September 13th. It might have been Friday the 13th, but our Club had the spirit to help out as much as we could! We had the opportunity to help out at the Isaiah’s Rock in Chino from 4-7pm. Being as it was the first event of the year, we had some new members who were able to experience firsthand what it means to be in Key Club. There were about 12 of us there, and we were split into three groups: one group labeled bags of food and organized them into boxes, another group was assigned to package clean diapers into bags that were to be available to anyone who could not afford them, and the last group was assigned to help sweep dust as well as move boxes. All of our jobs were in a close workspace, so we were able to keep each other company, which was great, since it was our first event. The new members were really enthusiastic and funny, which was awesome. They had some pretty interesting questions about Key Club as well, and the officers that were there were to answer them and also talk about the great events later on in the year, such as Fall Rally and Aids Walk. After a while of doing those jobs, everyone was assigned to package the diapers into bags, mark them, and then transfer them to a larger storage container. After we were finished with this, we were given a break. This was a great chance for all of us to get together and bond. We had a few laughs and talked more about Key Club. Overall, our club’s first event of the year was a success and in the end, gained new members, helped the less fortunate, and created new memories.

LA Greek Festival By: Sharon Fang On Saturday 7th and 8th, Los Osos Key Club traveled all the way to Los Angeles for the annual L.A. Greek Festival. While it is a long commute from the Inland Empire, the act of service and the grateful welcoming we received proved, like always, to be more than enough of a reward. The first thing we all noticed were the numerous booths lined up at the Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral with a huge array of Greek cuisine and games. Volunteers were separated to work in different booths ranging from preparing fries with oregano, to preparing gyro, and to serving delectable pastries. With the large line of mouths to fill, we were hard pressed to serve food continually to help fundraise for the church, but through teamwork and an assembly line we made it through. When I wasn’t helping with preparing lamb sandwiches, I was getting fries straight from the fryers to the stomachs of guests within 28 seconds flat. With music blaring, dancing lively, and exclamations of ‘OPA!’ this certainly was an event to remember fondly (and a tasty one at that) with high hopes of returning again next year.

In Preparation for Greatness By: Alison Meas From scrolling down our newsfeeds on Facebook and seeing all the posts on Instagram, we've seen that so many clubs in Division 15 have had a successful Club Rush and are already starting to accumulate dozens of new, fresh faces, ready to join in on the spirit! Even though Ruben S. Ayala High School has not yet had our Club Rush, we are still working hard in preparation for another amazing year of Key Club and service! Although we are already the largest club on campus, we continue to strive to be even bigger and better than years before! Despite our hectic schedules and inclining stress from due dates and AP classes, we have still managed to put aside time for the growth of Key Club! We have begun to paint posters and create informational fliers to spread more awareness, as well as to educate the students of Ayala High School what Key Club really is. We have also started to talk to members from years previous about ordering our new spirit gear, attending Fall Rally, and hyping them up for other amazing events that are to come in a matter of mere months! And even though we have not yet held our first member meeting, the officer board at Ayala is already beginning to feel the increasing essence of enthusiasm and spirit of interested, freshman students in addition to new, incoming members! As we continue to work together and plan out our year ahead, we too are gradually gaining more and more excitement for Key Club and are more than anxious to see what greatness we can achieve this year!

Park Clean Up By: Jamie Alarcon On September 7th, key clubbers from Etiwanda High School gathered at The Landings to clean up Koehler Park. It was the first event of the year and the officers were very anxious to see the outcome of this event. It was exciting to see sixty old and new members in attendance. The officers were also surprised to see how many new members came excited and full of spirit! From 11am to 2pm members went around the park finding numerous amounts of trash. We were able to fill about 8 bags, meaning a cleaner and healthier environment for our community! Throughout the day, it was hot and tiring but the members kept a positive attitude. After cleaning up the park, the officers formed a big circle in the shade to start off some ice breakers! First, we had each member tell everyone their name, grade, and something interesting about themselves. It was fun to see how many interesting people were apart of Etiwanda Key Club. Some of us are into sports, KPOP, anime, dance, or music. With this activity, new friends were made. After getting to know each, we grouped random members together and did the sing off activity. Smiles and laughter were exchanged with one another and by then, the food and drinks arrived! The officers awarded the members with capri sun, water bottles, chips, and pizza! The members were grateful and happy. While they finished refreshing themselves, the officers gathered them once more to thank them again for participating in this park clean up/ bonding event. The officers discussed future events such as the DCM and RTC. They also explained more on what Key Club is all about, what they contribute to this club and to everyone else around them, and what is PTP. Members gained a better understanding of Key Club and were filled with many curious questions on how they could get more involved. Overall, this being our first event of the year, it wasn’t perfect but it was successful. The officers understand that there is still room for improvement but we will never give up and continue to put more effort for the members and this club.

Club Rush By: Vanessa Luu At the start of the year, Don Lugo Key Club seems to be making great progress. This month, we had our club rush and we were able to gain over 100 sign-ups, one of the most on campus. Don Lugo’s student body is more interested in athletics so I am proud that my club was able to receive this much attention and interest. We had returning members of all grades participate in this event to talk to their respective grades as well as enthusiastically reach out to the freshmen, who may become the future of the club, if not, an important part of it. Many freshmen were excited to join after we talked about the past events that we had done such as the Kiwanis Rose Parade Float Decorating and the Bunny Bunch, a Bunny shelter that we regularly volunteer at. Some members were excited to wear our large orange UNICEF box and explained to potential members how Key Club had helped to raise funds for large projects such as the ELIMINATE Program and PTP. The people who heard about such programs became much more interested in the club now knowing that Key Club does in fact impact the world outside of school. Our first meeting proved that the rest of the year will be promising and exciting as the prospective members steadily apply to join the club. Many of the applicants were freshmen so I hope that they will eventually become the leaders of the club once they learn all there is to love about Key Club. As we build our club up, we hope to go beyond what we had accomplished the year before with our new members. With this, I know that my last year in Key Club will be a fun and exciting one.
