“SMALL ACTS, WHEN MULITPLIED BY MILLIONS OF PEOPLE, CAN TRANSFORM THE WORLD.” -HOWARD ZINN

I know it's a stressful time right now with quarantine, AP tests, finals, and graduations, and I know you all put in so much hard work this year. Regardless of not being able to hold in-person events, all of the officers and I are trying to continue online/at-home Key Club activities throughout the summer. I know this adjustment is not an easy one, but I hope we can continue to serve our communities especially at this time. Please come to the upcoming D15S online DCMs! Information will always be advertised on Instagram, Google Groups, and Facebook. I hope to see you all there!

Splashing Into Service,

Lieutenant Governor

2020-2021

I am so excited to be your division news editor for this term! This year I am going to work hard to document all of our excited journeys and keep you updated so that we can stay involved year-round. This year has already been anything but ordinary, and it is going to continue to get more bizarre. With staying at home, and battling a world-wide pandemic, service is the last thing on most people’s mind. But there has never been a more important time to come together (figuratively of course), support, and help those around us. Whether it is making service letters from home or doing our part to help those most vulnerable, thank you to all those who are helping their community. And to anyone impacted by this struggle, whether through missed experiences or lost loved ones, please know that the Key Club community is here for you. This is an unprecedent, crazy time, but as a I pledge, on my honor, Key Club family we can get to uphold the Objects through this. Let’s use our technology, our key club of Key Club connections, and our service International; to stay connected, stay safe, and stay serving. to build my home, See you soon!

school and community; to serve my nation and world; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

With all my love,

News Editor 2020-2021

I believe having this event, as we are going through a pandemic, is keeping a lot of us at ease. Knowing that there are a lot of cases of COVID-19 happening, it was just right we should thank the people who are working just so we, the people in the community, can be protected and have comfort in them at this dire time. These essential workers, from law enforcement to health care providers to even the places we are getting food from, all have been working hard to keep all of us safe and out of harm’s way of this pandemic. Before having this event where we write to the essential workers, I did not really think about them nor the risks they are having to take for us. This event really made me think and reevaluate what it is that is happening and how grateful I should be. For me, at first, I was really bummed out I could not hang out with friends and go out. I didn’t understand why it was so important we had to stay inside. But now realizing what these essential workers have been doing for us, getting exposure from others daily along with coming in contact with other many people, it just taught me I should be really thankful towards them. If not for their brave actions, a lot of people would not have access to resources being provided by these essential workers. I’m thankful to law enforcement by making sure people are not out and about and are social distancing as they should. I’m thankful to the food providers that are coming in contact with others everyday but are still willingly able to give us the food we need through this tough time. I’m thankful to the doctors, nurses, everyone in the medical field that I working to heal people who have caught this disease and are pushing them for recovery. I really liked how this event opened my eyes in a way of how I shouldn’t be selfish and I should think of the others like essential workers putting themselves at risk. I should be lucky that since I have the choice to stay home and social distance to keep others safe, I should just stay home.

The Letters to Essential Workers Service Project has opened my eyes to how important nurses, doctors, and everyone else working on the front lines is necessary to keeping society intact. It may not seem as if nurses and doctors are the glue that keep the world stable and healthy, but this pandemic has emphasized how much we need them. I know for a fact I may not be able to physically help with this pandemic, but to know that I can hopefully make a nurse’s rigorous day just a little better means a lot. This service project given me the opportunity to emotionally support those on the front lines while they physically put the world back into normalcy.

I truly wish that I could be volunteering and physically helping those in need right now, but under the conditions we are in it is almost impossible. The Letters to Essential Workers has given me an alternative by allowing everyone across the division to support them emotionally and show that we appreciate their work. Initially it may not seem as impactful, but I can say after participating that I believe I could still brighten someone’s day up. I am very grateful to tell the essential workers that they impact the world to an unimaginable extent, not only during this pandemic, but every time they put their masks back on.

During the Letters to Essential Workers Service Project, I was given the opportunity to show my appreciation to all the essential workers that are ensuring our world is a healthy place. Especially since these workers are working day and night to prevent innocent civilians from dying from such an unprecedent pandemic. I am glad that I can be able to tell the essential workers that their hard work is not going in vain and that everything they have done as brightened another person's day up. I am truly grateful to be given the opportunity to hopefully brighten their day up.

When I first received the notification for this service project, I thought it was an amazing idea because almost anyone can participate. It is a great project to do at home while helping and encouraging those in the front lines. While making these cards, I realized how much work and risks healthcare and essential workers are doing. I enjoyed drawing and writing these cards, putting a lot of care in them, I tried to incorporate fun ways to make the cards interactive (Like when you pull on the strip, it flips through all the panels and pictures). Personally, I loved this project because I have always been doing art and enjoyed using my skills for service projects. However, whether you are good or not at drawing, this opportunity is a good way to thank others, be creative, and find something calm in these stressful times.

Writing a letter to an essential worker was an amazing experience. During this worldwide struggle, there has never been a more important time to do our best to help others. However, has been really difficult to do so while at home. By writing a letter to an essential worker, I not only got to use my skills for the betterment of others, but I also got show my appreciation to essential workers. This is especially important to me because a lot of my family members are essential workers. From doctors to social workers, they compromise their time and safety to help those in need every single day. This hits near and dear to my heart, so I am glad I could do something the help them. I hope that by sending our love and appreciation to our real life superheroes, we can make our time at home and their time on the front lines more meaningful.
