Key Club Pledge I pledge, on my honor, to uphold the Objects of Key Club International; to build my home, school and community; to serve my nation and world; and combat all forces which tend to undermine these institutions.

Happy December, Belugas! I hope you’re all warm at home in your blankets and doing well during the busy holiday season. The well deserved winter break is finally here, and I hope you all get to spend some time away from stress and work to enjoy the holidays with your families! College application season is also almost over for many of us, and I cannot wait to see where you all end up! I hope you enjoyed writing about Key Club on your applications as much as I did. For this month’s events, the other LTG’s and I have been working very hard recently on planning some fun virtual holiday activities for you all! I hope to see you at the December Kiwanis DCM to bond with our lovely Kiwanians, participating in the Winter Care Packages Fundraiser for PTP, at Candidate Training Conference as my potential new LTG elect, and at the December DCM! We have lots of events going on this month, and I can’t wait to see all your holiday spirit there. We are almost at the end of our THIRD QUARTER of the term, so keep up the good work everyone! Have a happy winter break and New Year’s (and hopefully do some service over the break)!

Spouting Into Service,

Emily Lu Lieutenant Governor 2020-2021

Editor Hello Everyone! Welcome to the last month of 2020, and wow, what a year it has been! This year, we have survived a pandemic, taught ourselves how to learn online, fought for the rights of all human beings like never before, faced the uncertainty of a US election, and so much more. Our patience has been tested, our mental health questioned, but we have persevered. In the midst of so much struggle, we have helped others, learned new things, and done our part in this world. It’s been a lot, but I am so proud of us for braving through. As we near the end of this year, lets make sure we take a moment to remember the things we are thankful for, like our lives, our opportunities, and our Key Club family. Then, no matter what 2021 brings let’s make sure we enter it prepared, hopeful, and reassured that things will get better. Stay safe, stay warm, and have an amazing holiday!

Excited to Serve,

Ria Parikh News Editor 2020-2021

Harry PotteRTC

Submitted By: Nathan Tran

I attended this most recent RTC, which was Harry Potter themed. It was so fun and interesting to be able to connect to the others in our division. I especially liked going to the Editors breakout room, seeing as I’m the Historian for my club. They gave me a lot of great advice and ideas. I appreciate the people that put the event together, they did an amazing job. I really enjoyed the experience and hope to go to many more RTCs.

- Valeria Gomez, Montclair High

For the October DCM, it was hosted at the Harry PotteRTC, the annual region training conference. I was really grateful to have the chance to see my friends, even if it was through Zoom. The training conference was very informative, and the DCM had a lot of people in attendance as well. I was very grateful for the experience, as one of our officers got officer of the month as well!

- Ashley Ma, Chino Hills High

RTC was such an amazing event because it was so informational, interactive, and welcoming. We got to see the behind-the-scenes of Key Club and how we can give back to the community in the most efficient way possible. We did not just learn about how to give back, but we also learned varies ways Key Club can impact our lives aside from the satisfaction of helping others. I could not help but notice the actions and responsibilities displayed by the presenters because it emphasized how much work every Key Clubber puts into our entire Region and our own communities. All the district committee members from the Lieutenant Governors to the District Members, like the District Governor, did a magnificent job presenting and making the 5 hour event feel short and worthwhile. I also cannot forget the Kiwanis and Chaperones who shared very insightful advice to their younger audience. Although, the most memorable thing was the love boxes which really made my day because of the sweet messages and the hilarious pick-up lines.

Dog Toys and Goodie Bags

Submitted By: Wynn Phaychanpheng

The dog-toy making event has been one of my favorite events this whole year. In this event, we made a bunch of cute dog toys using old shirts, so it was very environmentally friendly! Basically, we cut strops from the old shirts and braided them to make the dog toys. During this even, I was able to destress and calm down because it was so soothing. I feel like braiding allowed me to do that. It was a very fun activity and you should all participate the next time we have this kind of arts and crafts event!

- Pierre Godisan, Chino Hills High

The thanksgiving goodie bag event was really fun and easy to do. I enjoyed just drawing these designs for notes for the essential workers while simultaneously getting to bond with other members. Getting to know the Kiwanis chaperones was also really fun! I will continue to work on this project individually and am looking forward to the drop off date where I can meet some of my friends again!

Various Service Projects For the past few months, Ayala Key Club has been working on a different type of service, changes in lifestyle. We have been collaborating with Dear Trees, an organization based in Chino Hills dedicated to change habits to change the world. By joining them in their event, we are encouraging our members to use Terracycle as a free recycling service to reduce the waste in our landfills. We are giving them all incentives of gaining service hours to have members actively think about their impact on our planet. We hope that when it is safe to meet up, we can host events to sort the items and ship them off to the corresponding businesses. In the meantime, our members are collecting their recyclable items at home and preparing to meet up.

- Natalie Keung, Ruben S. Ayala This November, I participated in a Key Club service event with Operation Smile Club called “The Write Thing to do. This collaborative event allows members to write letters and nice things to operation smile kids. I wrote letters and drew positive pictures and mailed them out. This is event was very enjoyable and I would like to encourage everyone to do this service event! Submitted By: Alexis Villamil

This month Montclair held a service week event. It was nice to have the whole week to spread as much positivity and service in the week. The service week created spirit amongst the club which was interesting to see. At the end of the week, we had a fun game/movie day where we got to hang out together. I enjoyed being able to get closer to my club and members.

Just by answering simple questions like “What is this? or testing my Spanish vocabulary, I was able to help fight hunger. BeanBeanBean was an amazing way to spend time on my phone while also being productive. I enjoyed supporting them and their fight against hunger, and I even got to the Magic Bean level!

Spotlight March of Dimes Mission: To improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. This mission is achieved through research, community services, education and advocacy. Background: “Every day 1 in 8 babies born in the U.S. arrives too soon. Premature birth can happen to any pregnant woman, and no one knows why. It is a serious, common and costly problem…Key Club International began working with the March of Dimes in the 1960s by holding dances, car washes and bakes sales to raise funds for medical research into birth defects.

Key Clubbers around the world remember collecting dimes in hopes that someday children would be born free of birth defects.” What You Can Do: Every year, Key Club raises thousands of dollars towards March of Dimes. As a club and individual, you can always help with this through fundraising and collecting change. You can also participate in international events. In November, you can participate in Prematurity Awareness Month, while in the Spring you can fundraise through a March of

Dimes March near you, along with help solve the problem of premature birth through fundraising and events. FOR MORE INFORMATION GO TO MARCHOFDIMES.ORG/# AND CNHKEYCLUB.ORG/PROJECTS/PREFERRED-CHARITIES
